I found an old reference book on animal husbandry, I read and learned that butter was invented by the ancient Greeks, but they didn't eat it, they just greased their chariot wheels with it... interesting.

It is always interesting to see the use cases for different innovations throughout history and they changed.

Yes, sometimes it is a complete mystery how everything happened, for example, history is silent about how people were able to systematize mushrooms into poisonous and edible, there must be a lot of consumables in the form of tasters. !BEER

Hey @taskmaster4450le, here is a little bit of BEER from @barski for you. Enjoy it!

Did you know that <a href='https://dcity.io/cityyou can use BEER at dCity game to buy cards to rule the world.

Hey young man! How about you make a POST about all of the games available on the #hive #blockchain? I know you are not an #oninegaming kind of guy but gaming is a BIG THING. We have followers but not the influence you do.

Because quite frankly I have no idea what is on Hive and what games are what.

Talking about something I know so little about is not my cup of tea. There is a reason why I avoid a lot of topics.

I get it. Thanks anyway.

I am banned from the Leofinance server (some people just can't take alcoholic behavior when dealing with @themarkymark. Guess got more money than me so he can do what he wants with no repercussions. I get it when one is involved with a delegated proof of stake blockchain economy...)
untitled.gif). 😎

Please relay to your folks that @sgt-dan (aka @untamedsarge and that other @sbtofficial guy) is getting tired of seeing this:

image.png

As I stated before in todays X.com chat: I want a bang for my buck. I have two PREMIUM level accounts (sbtofficial & untamedsarge). I hold the purse strings for my community and take that responsibilty very seriously. We are a small outfit and every dime spent I want to make sure is worth the expense.

Why am I contacting you? Well you are the defacto representative for this application/HIVE interface. Please don't get angry as I am sure you have friends in high places as I have friends in low places.

I would send this to the developers (?) but I have no idea who they are!

We worked together in the past to get this program (project blank) up and running in the past as you remember. I just dealt with some warranty people this morning and am not the one today for piss poor customer service.

Thank you for spending the time to read my childish rant as Khal puts it.

Wishing you a great day today and everyday!

#feedback #inleo #wtf (the t in the hashtag is for thy referring to Khal and his team, not you).

wtf this have to do with me?

Actually nothing. Sorry. I can't have a great rant without at least mentioning one whale and you came to mind!

untitled.gif

Heavy sits the crown on the head of the great whale @themarkymark. 🤣

Where you are now, and where you want to be, if you want to do something about it, that's ambition. If you think it is someone else's problem, that's entitlement.

Truer words were never spoken.

Bitcoin rally helps create more than 84,000 new crypto millionaires in a year

The surge reflects the rapid growth of bitcoin exchange-traded funds, which now have more than $50 billion in assets since their launch in January.

The population of crypto millionaires in the world soared 95% over the past year, as bitcoin ETFs and other crypto assets climbed, according to a new report.

There are now 172,300 individuals worldwide holding over $1 million in crypto assets, up from 88,200 last year, according to a report from New World Wealth and Henley & Partners. The number of pure bitcoin millionaires more than doubled, to 85,400.

#bitcoin #crypto #technology

Impressive growth, but I think they became millionaires some time ago, then stopped being them and then became them again :) !VSC

That could be although the ETFs brought in a lot of different players.

In any case, this indicator is very shaky since we do not know what the situation with bitcoin will be tomorrow, they need to be divided into adamant holders and those who will dump bitcoin tomorrow :) !PIZZA

The ranks of the crypto rich have grown all the way up the wealth ladder. There are now 325 crypto centi-millionaires (those with $100 million or more in crypto holdings), and 28 crypto billionaires, according to the report.

The surge reflects the rapid growth of bitcoin ETFs, which now have over $50 billion in assets since their launch in January and have touched off a wave of institutional participation.

Science-heavy Swiss VC firm Redalpine raises fresh $200M fund for early-stage investments

Many VC funds, especially recent vintages, have failed to return money to their investors.

Many VC funds, especially recent vintages, have failed to return money to their investors. Swiss VC firm Redalpine is one exception, and this largely explains why its newly announced $200 million seventh early-stage fund was oversubscribed, according to the firm.

Redalpine Capital VII, or RAC VII, is already well under way to back 15 to 20 European early-stage companies, with nine investments so far, including German nuclear startup Proxima Fusion.

It is likely that the lion's share of these startups will be unprofitable, it will be good if some of them recoup their investments. !BEER

Google's AI overviews in Hindi need a quality upgrade

Given India's language diversity, digital content companies already face a challenge in trying to show and translate content accurately.

Given India’s language diversity, digital content companies already face a challenge in trying to show and translate content accurately. Google is facing a similar problem with AI overviews recently rolled out in the country.

The company introduced Hindi support for AI overviews in the country earlier in August. Users in India can also switch between Hindi and English without leaving the search page. But the feature is disappointingly inconsistent.

#google #technology #ai #newsonleo

I thought that Indian AI can only sing and dance :) !PIZZA

@calebmarvel01 can sing and dance better than #ai.

Hahaha, I told you that AI is just a pathetic imitator, which is far from the original :) !VSC

Unless he is #ai.

It is an even greater shame for AI to be worse than AI in something :) !BEER

That is why AI therapists need to be developed.

People think it is for people but an AI therapist provides therapy to Ai, especially those with inferiority complexes.

🤣😂😂😂 that's serious!

One simple example was a result we picked from Google’s blog. The GIF showed an answer for “Cheeni ki jagah chai mai kya daal sakte hai?” which translates to “What is a substitute for sugar in tea?” During testing, we changed up the order of the words to “Chai mai cheeni ke jagah kya daal sakte hai?” and Google simply didn’t show an answer.

Another problem we spotted was translating English words literally. When we asked in Hindi about “What kind of food can we eat during summer?” one of the answers was “Chiknai wali cheezien” which translates to “Sticky things” — and that’s confusing. When I switched over to English, Google showed me “Oily” an an option, which is a very different thing from “sticky” when it comes to food. Either way, it’s kind of a weird suggestion.

In another instance, when we asked about YouTube’s ownership, AI overviews said “Until 16 February 2023, Neal Mohan was Google’s CEO” in Hindi, which is incorrect. The English text had the correct version saying “As of 16 February 2023, Neal Mohan is Google CEO”.

nOps lands $30M to optimize AWS customers' cloud spend

nOps, a startup building tools to optimize AWS customers' cloud spend, has raised $30 million in a new funding round.

Companies don’t necessarily have to produce breakthrough technology to gain market traction. Undercutting rivals on price can be enough to make a dent in a competitive sector. So can leaning on connections to land customers in need of a timely solution to a problem.

nOps is an example of this. Like countless other vendors, nOps sells software designed to “optimize” the budgets that businesses allocate to cloud products and services. But the firm has managed to expand faster — and bigger — than many of its rivals, perhaps in part because it serves AWS customers exclusively.

#newsonleo #technology #nOps #funding

nOps claims that its customer base grew 450% over the past 18 months and that it’s helping clients manage more than $1.5 billion in AWS cloud spend. That’s evidently impressed investors; this month, nOps closed a $30 million Series A funding round led by PE firm Headlight Partners, which brought nOps’ total raised to $40.5 million.

JT Giri, the founder and CEO of nOps, got his start in the cloud industry as a network engineer and DevOps consultant. In 2012, he decided to take those skills and co-found a consulting company, nClouds, focused on AWS solutions. nOps launched as a spin-out from nClouds in 2017, and after Charles Thayne Capital acquired nClouds in 2022, Giri turned his attention to nOps full time.

“There’s a growing issue in the cloud space,” Giri told TechCrunch. “As companies tighten budgets ahead of fiscal 2025 planning, a solution providing a comprehensive, automated view of cloud costs is critical.”

To Giri’s point, efficient cloud usage remains an aspiration, not a reality, for many companies, particularly as companies invest more in cloud-hosted AI projects. (Gartner projects that spending on cloud services will reach $675.4 billion in 2024, up from $561 billion in 2023.) In a 2024 Statista survey, 84% of organizations said that they found managing cloud spend to be a “significant” challenge thanks to blockers around governance, security and tech expertise.

The probability that 30 million will turn into a cloud is very high :) !HUG

On Wednesday, SpaceX is expected to launch four civilian astronauts on a five-day mission to extreme orbital altitude in order to conduct a series of experiments.

The mission, which will launch from Kennedy Space Center, is the first of three planned spaceflights part of the Polaris program. Two of the four members on the flight are expected to leave their capsule and conduct a spacewalk, the first private citizens to do so.

Will they take with them a ram that will try to break through the dome of the sky with its horns? :) !BEER

Okay, tell me more about your beliefs or non beliefs in space?

Just facts lol, interest in space has significantly waned, programs have been curtailed, this means only one thing, we are under surveillance. :) !BEER

Paris court explains why it's arrested Telegram founder, Pavel Durov

When Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of messaging app Telegram, was arrested on August 24, French authorities did not respond to requests for comment.

When Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of messaging app Telegram, was arrested on August 24, French authorities did not respond to requests for comment. The secrecy of pre-trial investigations and inquiries is an important principle in the French judicial system.

French television network TF1 reported that the main issues are Telegram’s (lack of) moderation processes and unwillingness to cooperate with law enforcement, especially when it comes to drug trafficking, money laundering and child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

#technology #telegram #newsonleo #paveldurov

It's just that Macron decided not to limit himself to just the Telegram application, but to also get its developer :) !HUG

Typical. Tyranny is running wild.

Time for people to step up against what is taking place.

A cruiser with analog control like Missouri should appear here and fire a salvo from a cannon, if the shells have managed to move along the crane beam from one gun turret to another, this can be difficult :) !BEER

I humiliated the Missouri by calling it a cruiser, lol, it should be a battleship :) !VSC

But the court in charge of the investigation, the Paris criminal court, probably didn’t expect to garner so much attention and speculation. The billionaire owner of X, Elon Musk, posted “#FreePavel” on his own social networking platform. Edward Snowden — the NSA whistleblower and privacy campaigner — implied Durov’s arrest was a political decision taken by French President, Emmanuel Macron.

Given that Telegram is the most popular social app in Russia and Ukraine, it also became a hot topic for both Russian authorities and the Russian opposition.

The publicity circus accompanying the arrest explains why the court decided to share a press release listing the charges against Durov. According to this document, the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office opened a preliminary investigation against Durov on July 8 related to efforts to combat cybercrime.

The Centre for the Fight against Cybercrime (C3N) and the Anti-Fraud National Office (ONAF) have been involved in the investigation. In all, 12 charges have been filed against “a person unnamed” — a classic French judicial term to imply whoever is in charge of Telegram right now.

Mark Zuckerberg says White House 'pressured' Meta to 'censor' Covid-19 content

Zuckerberg said it was ultimately Meta's decision to take down any content, but he noted he believes that the so-called "government pressure was wrong."

The Biden Administration "pressured" Facebook-parent Meta to "censor" content related to Covid-19, the social media giant's CEO Mark Zuckerberg alleged, adding that he regrets some of the decisions taken in relation to the U.S. government's requests.

"In 2021, senior officials from the Biden Administration, including the White House, repeatedly pressured our teams for months to censor certain COVID-19 content, including humor and satire, and expressed a lot of frustration with our teams when we didn't agree," Zuckerberg wrote in a letter to the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee.

Calendar tool Clockwise adds new AI-powered interface called Prism

Clockwise is changing up its interface with an AI-powered assistant called Prism that lets you manage calendar invites and scheduling with text prompts.

Smart scheduling and calendar tool Clockwise is changing up its interface with an AI-powered assistant called Prism that lets you manage scheduling conflicts, create or clear events in bulk, and turn to-do lists into calendar blocks with text prompts.

Like rival startups YC-backed Vimcal, and Reclaim, which got acquired by Dropbox this month, Clockwise is aimed at companies and focuses on streamlining schedules for teams — you can still use it as an individual, though.

#ai #google #calendar #Prism

The new AI assistant can turn typed instructions into calendar events — type a query like “Create a link to schedule a meeting with Severian next week,” and you’ll get a link or a text block to share your availability. And if your suggested timing for a meeting conflicts with another event, the tool will suggest an alternative time slot for the meeting.

Prism also lets you share a link of suggested meeting times other participants can respond to, and the link will surface potential confilicts, too.

But if you are planning an urgent meeting, Prism can look across different team members’ schedules and select an optimal time and automatically reschedule conflicting events.

You also get the ability to schedule tasks from a to-do list in your calendar and move them if you happen to get into a meeting. And if you want to schedule similar meetings with a bunch of people, you can type a prompt like, “Schedule 15 minute one-on-ones with Frank, Robin, Nami, and Tony.”

Pavel Durov, the founder of the messaging platform Telegram, has been in the headlines since his arrest at a private airport near Paris on Saturday, reportedly in connection with an investigation into criminal activity on the app.

While many stories since have centered on free speech (i.e, should what happens on Telegram stay on Telegram?), others have focused on Durov and his anti-establishment streak. One story stands out in particular — Durov’s claim on Telegram in late July that he has fathered over 100 biological children after donating sperm at a clinic 15 years ago to help a friend have a baby.

#newsonleo #paveldurov #children

According to VeniceAI

What is the future of space travel?

The future of space travel is uncertain, with both exciting possibilities and practical limitations. While private companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin are making strides in developing reusable rockets and tourist trips to space , there remain technical and financial challenges to overcome before space travel becomes accessible for the general public . Furthermore, deep space exploration faces its own set of limitations, including the immense distances to other planets and astronomical bodies, as well as the harsh conditions required for human or robotic travel . As a result, it is likely that space travel will continue to be dominated by scientific and commercial endeavors, rather than tourism , at least in the near future.

#space #technology #travel

It's likely that the first major industry related to space will be satellite-based communications and Earth observation. The potential for satellite technology to revolutionize global communication and data gathering has already been demonstrated, with companies like SpaceX and OneWeb launching constellations of satellites to provide internet connectivity and telecommunication services worldwide.

These industries are poised to grow rapidly as the cost of launches decreases and technology advances, enabling more small satellites to be launched into space. Furthermore, satellite-based Earth observation is becoming increasingly important for industries such as agriculture, logistics, and environmental monitoring.

The establishment of these industries will lay the foundation for further developments in space exploration and utilization, such as asteroid mining, space tourism, and even colonization. As technology continues to evolve and costs decrease, we can expect to see an expansion into more ambitious projects and new commercial opportunities in space.

The cost of rocket launches has seen a significant decrease since 2000, primarily due to advancements in technology and increased competition among launch providers. Here is some data on the cost trends:

  1. Between 2000 and 2012, the cost per kilogram to reach low Earth orbit (LEO) ranged from $10,000 to $20,000 . This was largely dominated by government-funded programs like NASA and the European Space Agency.
  2. In 2013, SpaceX launched its first commercial cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station for NASA at a cost of $1.5 billion , which was significantly lower than previous estimates. This marked a turning point in the industry as it demonstrated that private companies could compete with government-funded programs.
  1. Since then, SpaceX has continued to reduce its costs through reusable rocket technology. The cost per kilogram to reach LEO for SpaceX's Falcon 9 is currently around $2,000 .
  2. Other private companies like Blue Origin and Virgin Orbit have also entered the market, offering lower-cost launch options. For example, Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket is expected to cost around $5 million per launch , while Virgin Orbit's LauncherOne costs around $12-15 million per launch .
  3. As of 2022, there are several companies competing in the small satellite launch market, offering prices as low as $500,000 to $1 million per launch . This has opened up opportunities for smaller businesses and research institutions to access space.

Overall, the cost of rocket launches has decreased significantly over the past two decades due to technological advancements, increased competition, and private investment in the industry. As the market continues to evolve, it's likely that costs will continue to decrease and accessibility to space will increase.

As of 2022, there are approximately 4,862 active satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), according to the Union of Concerned Scientists' Satellite Database. This number is constantly changing as new satellites are launched and others fall out of orbit or become inactive.

LEO satellites are popular for their proximity to the Earth's surface, which allows for faster data transmission and higher-resolution imaging compared to geostationary satellites in much higher orbits. The increasing use of LEO satellites is driven by advancements in technology, such as miniaturization, increased computing power, and lower launch costs.

The number of LEO satellites is expected to continue growing rapidly due to the emergence of new players like SpaceX (Starlink), OneWeb, and Amazon's Kuiper Systems, which are launching large constellations of small satellites for global internet connectivity and other applications. These mega-constellations will contribute significantly to the overall count of LEO satellites in the coming years.

Hi Sir, how can u explain ML AI & DL in simplest possible way?

One more Q- For self-driving cars, in an accident scenario how does it prioritize to minimize the damage, or for that matter does it consider d ethical dilemmas at this stage?

Basically when looking at ML (and Google Deepmind) just think of it as mirroring how we learn. It isnt exact but that is the simplest framework.

The neural network is set up to mimic the synapses in our brains. As data is fed in, it is reinforced through repetition, similar to humans. You hear something once you might not remember, by the 50th time, you get it.

These models are the same way.

That said, they are limited, at the moment, to context. The understanding of the world is limited since they reside in a box.

Thank you for this lucid explanation.

I appreciate it.

The next level, many believe, is context through embedded AI, ie models in robots and cars (things that move around and have a spatial component).

I am not sure the question about self driving cars.

OpenAI, Adobe and Microsoft support California bill requiring watermarks on AI content

OpenAI, Adobe and Microsoft have thrown their support behind a California bill requiring tech companies to label AI-generated content

OpenAI, Adobe and Microsoft have thrown their support behind a California bill requiring tech companies to label AI-generated content, according to letters from the companies viewed by TechCrunch. The bill is headed for a final vote in August.

AB 3211 requires watermarks in the metadata of AI-generated photos, videos and audio clips. Lots of AI companies already do this, but most people don’t read metadata. AB 3211 also requires large online platforms, like Instagram or X, to label AI-generated content in a way average viewers can understand.

#newsonleo #technology #ai #regulation

OpenAI, Adobe and Microsoft are part of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity, which helped create C2PA metadata — a widely used standard for marking AI-generated content.

A trade group representing Adobe, Microsoft and the nation’s largest software makers previously opposed AB 3211 in April, calling the bill “unworkable” and “overly burdensome” in a letter to California lawmakers. However, amendments to the bill appear to have changed their minds.
