A Productive Sunday With Coffee

macproperty.png

Some people spend their Sundays traveling, being lazy, or with their family but for me, I spend my Sunday being productive. It’s not because I follow those entrepreneurshit advice all around but it’s just I operate differently than most people. At some point, I mentioned that I start my week on Saturday which makes Thursday and Friday my weekend. There’s definitely a pros and cons to starting the week differently but because everything I do is based on async which actually is pretty common these days it's not a big of a problem. If you are like me, a remote worker/ digital nomad, or just broke freelancer, async is actually pretty common among us. But again, since the rest of the world doesn’t operate the way I do, Sunday is a nice time for me to reset and strategize. Anyway, this is a slice of life that I like to do so, if you follow me for my travel adventure, brace yourself for this type of content.

A productive Sunday in my life starts with coffee. Coffee will always be numero uno and pretty much determines the rest of my days. As I’d like to say, No coffee, No productivity. I often go to my favorite cafe in town or if I am elsewhere, it’s going to be just the same — any place that sets the mood for being productive, I’ll be there. So far, I have never been told to leave by cafe owners as I often stay a bit long until dinner time. Oftentimes, I am the only customer there so maybe that’s why haha.

As soon as I reach the cafe, I would usually write in my journal. It’s really fun to do and just gives me a good kick start on what I have to accomplish. Not to mention, sometimes I get sparkles to think about new things to try and things to improve on. I have plenty interest but oftentimes everything gets lost in newer things I want to try. I recently learned, it’s partly my fault that sometimes I don’t track the time of things I do. Personally tracking time is a huge help for me because I would know how much I spend doing stuff and not overestimate things that I do.

Did you know that in 25 minutes, you can actually leave about 10-15 comments on hive? I guess it comes down to your reading speed and comprehension. However, if you can read in English or your preferred language of yours, 10-15 isn’t a difficult thing to do. If you recently learned English and just want to leave short comments, I think 5-8 comments for 25 minutes isn’t a huge task. Imagine if you spent an hour, you’d probably find more than 10 new friends in just an hour! But that’s just me. So here’s the question, how long did it take you to leave several comments a day?

My current read from the cafe

When the sun is high, I read books that I either bring from home or at the cafe. I like a place with books just because when I am tired, I can read something. Coffee shops sometimes surprise me with their book collections although mostly in cafes they have entrepreneurship collections. I time myself for about 60 minutes to read books, including lunch. Otherwise, I’d get lost in books and not get anything done.

I also spend the day basically doing admin work where I organize files, my finance, and anything that I have been putting off for a while. I am not always productive so, I am also cleaning up for things I messed up the previous months or week. I strive so hard to be perfect and be productive but trust me, it’s not that easy and sometimes it gets difficult. When it gets that way, I fall pretty hard and throw me off balance. So Sundays are great for resetting like that.

During the afternoon on Sunday, I usually call my mom to discuss business possibilities or things we can prepare in the future. My mom is old enough and it’s time for her to think about retirement. It’s unfortunate that she didn’t even prepare all of this when she was young or think about it. Now, I have to partly help her get back on her feet and while she works, I also want her to stop working for other people and focus on our business and growing it. Retirement doesn't mean that she would stop working but choosing more of an entrepreneurship route and something she can do from home. This is also the biggest lesson I learned that if we are young, it’s best to think about retirement early on, it’s not about “not working” but rather having the ability to do what we like without stressing about money.

I would leave at around 10pm and be home and still do stuff. I mostly do easy mundane tasks before I sleep. Sunday-Thursday is the time when I get the most sleep compared to other days. If I travel the following day, I would probably not fall asleep due to excitement or other stuff, like early flights/ train schedule.

So, that's a Sunday in my life lately. How about you? how is a typical Sunday in your life looks like?

Greetings Mac! 🤗

So you decided to postpone your travel photo posts because you think you bore people with your photos? 😐How are you going to think that? I love your travel photos! I dream to be in all those places, the photos are very nice, even if I don't swim on the beach and in the rain they look scary to me 😅😅.

I love how you organize your week, my weeks don't have absolute organization 🥴, my job doesn't allow me to organize myself at all, because some times I have to go out on emergency and even work on weekends, but usually my Sundays I take them for me.

I also start my day with coffee, I don't function without coffee and in many quantities in the day, but I try to stay under 4 cups a day for my health, after that I write a notebook I have about "things to do", I make a list of my to do's, set ideas for my hive posts in the week, and about my own work I have assigned for that week, I update myself on things I need to read about clinical studies, discuss some patient cases with friends, answer patient messages, and after that I advance some of my posts to have something in advance for the week, that's where my day goes.

Now that I am writing this I see that this is really the day of the week that I work the most if I analyze it well 🙃. But I do it from the comfort of my bed and listening to music, so it's still relaxing 🤭🤭.

I think I could only do a maximum of 5 comments in those 25 minutes 🙃, you must have already noticed that I write a lot 🙄, often my comments are the length of a post, but it's because it's hard for me to summarize 🥺, I always try, but it's complicated for me, I swear! that's why I make those giant posts that I'm sure almost everyone finds annoying to read 😑, what can I tell you, that's how I am so it would be impossible for me 10 or 15 comments, I admire you for you if you manage to do it!

How wonderful! what you say about the coffee places over there, they even have books to read, excellent! Here we don't have those cafes, very few provide free wifi unless you make friends with the owner and to stay there you must consume, otherwise they look at you with a face of "you are taking advantage of my free internet without consuming anything" so it is very uncomfortable to stay there for a long time, I need to live in Asia!

Pd. @macchiata I love your travel pics! 🤗 please don't stop uploading your posts, you don't bore anyone with that 🙏🏼.

I think I put out too much travel content lately and it can be boring. I didn't realize even a simple post like this would garner engagement, which is something I enjoy more because I learned a lot from people and their activity during Sunday or other things. Also because often travelogue and stories like that take time from me to move from paper to laptop. When I travel, I bring a notebook and just make keywords from what I remembered. Sometimes when I rely on my memory, there were many details that are missing until I published it and would remember.

It's understandable that my estimation would be something around 100-200 words comment but if you leave around 300, that definitely won't be enough. To be fair, I also take time when I read book reviews or movie reviews because some of them needs second thoughts and critical thinking. Since I curate both, I take great care in ensuring they are legitimate and original reviews rather has no substantial thoughts. I definitely would take more time when I curate things vs when I just wander around to engage. I feel like it's something I am not good at and I think needs to be improved 😂 because sometimes, you know introvert, being introvert even online.

Having Wifi is a requirement to run coffee place and for the place to survive over here. People just want the free wifi haha and that's what they often ask in cafe. I personally do not use cafe wifi as I have my own portable wifi that I bring to anywhere. It's much more convenient and secure wise as I don't share it with anyone and encrypted it so I can only access it alone. I hate the thoughts of not having control over my device. So, that's about it. I am sorry if it's too long😂

Greetings Mac, sorry I had not responded because I was having Internet problems around here, our perennial problem, I'm sure you are aware of that.

I had not thought about using only your own internet for security, I swear, I know very little about computers and security and if not because you tell me this I would have gone out there in any wifi network to check my hive account, I will take it into account from now on.

Thank you very much @macchiata 🤗

hahaha it's fine if you use other wifi but yes, be cautious because you never know. I personally am just paranoid due to what I am often exposed to 😂 people can be scary out there so, be safe!

A productive Sunday in my life starts with coffee

Every productive day does!

I too love working in cafe's and coffee shops. I think it gives your mind and body a feeling of "ah ok now I can relax and get some stuff done" - and you don't have to do the dishes which is a bonus.

Comments go a long way and I try to make at least 5 valuable comments each day but I also don't beat myself up too much if I don't get to. I tend to read quite slowly so that actually takes me more time but I'd rather leave a comment after actually reading the post. I can't stand comments that are two words and show absolutely no insight into the post.

It's so lovely that you are helping out your mom and it's true that retirement should be about balance, not about doing nothing. It's meant to still be enjoyable and full of doing what you love. These days though so many retirees are using their time to run small businesses that it still seems to revolve around work.

you don't have to do the dishes which is a bonus.

That's true! although staying with my mom I am pretty spoiled, she always gets it done before I did it.

I realized that not everyone is a fast reader or typer. But because what I do is always revolving around reading, typing, writing, it becomes natural at this point 😅. I was trained to read fast and also write fast otherwise, I'd be left behind and I can't be on time on my assignments. I am pretty sure everyone likes it when somebody reads them which is the point of being on Hive or any social media- It's that genuine engagement that we crave. I really don't see the point when someone just leave a comment and judge it by its headline as it shows.

Not doing anything for elderly is also not good for their health. I had so many family members who don't do anything ended up falling sick and immobile. It's best to still train their muscles and even do simple work. One of my grandpas ran a business until he was in his 80's and eventually passing away due to late stage cancer. He had a good run in life and he was so inspiring to me that even during his sickness he was still working. He only stopped working just a year before his death.

Thanks for commenting and visiting my blog!

That's very kind of her to do the dishes.

I have tried so many different ways to increase the speed at which I read, but my brain struggles to keep up lol.

We do need the real engagement and it's sadly missing in conventional social media - but I think it was designed like that on purpose.

I couldn't agree more on the elderly keeping themselves occupied, I think that boredom is an early death sentence to be honest. I'm sorry to read about your grandpa, but 80 is a full lifetime and it's great that he was inspiring right 'til the end.

Have a fantastic week up ahead :)

Oftentimes, I am the only customer there so maybe that’s why haha.

The beautiful cashier always handed me my coffee bill while saying; "Sorry sir, we will soon close the bill for tonight." It's been countless times she's thrown me out of the cafe with that sweet smile. As a fellow coffee lover, I also often experience the same thing as you, @macchiata.

If you'd like to know some things about coffee that I've tried to talk about, they're here

Now, I have to partly help her get back on her feet and while she works, I also want her to stop working for other people and focus on our business and growing it.

I'm always happy when I know someone still thinks about what's best for their mother.
May all who are devoted to their parents always be blessed. You are one of them.
Success is always for you.

I haven't noticed how much time I spend reading and commenting on posts on hive, I should start doing that, first I translate because I don't know English and then I write my comment in my language, Spanish, and then I translate it.

I comment a lot in the day, because I get about 50 notifications every day, more or less.

I liked this thought, today I reflected on this.

I learned that if we are young, it’s best to think about retirement early on, it’s not about “not working” but rather having the ability to do what we like without stressing about money.

So, that's a Sunday in my life lately, what's a typical Sunday like in your life?

My Sundays would change over the years, nowadays they look like every other day of the week, just hive and hive a lot. @macchiata 🥰🤗

It's good to know how much you'd spend on commenting or doing hive stuff. I personally just like to know how much I do that because otherwise I'd overestimate or even underestimate the time spent to do certain things. For example, making post will take an hour maybe more depending on the topic. A travelogue would take me about a day or two to finish meanwhile simple reflection blogs wouldn't take more than 2 hours and graphics added that's around 4-5 hours at max.

Commenting is also a good way to learn other languages. I personally knows a bit of written Spanish and studied that for a year in university. So, I tried not to use translator when I interact. It's another way to learn other languages. I find it fun as well. It's nice that you get to do Hive on Sunday, sometimes I think about just doing posting every Sunday and not everyday but I also have fear or missing out😂 if I don't post at least once every 2 or 3 days haha.

For a while I tried to read posts in English and comment but it took me a long time, my posts take between 3 to 5 hours to come out of the honor, I guess I'm slow 😂.

I'm going to write down all the time I do each thing, in August I started a challenge to create content daily without lowering the quality and I've achieved it, I still can't believe it, it's a way to beat procrastination.

Now I have to learn to get organised and time myself.

I really loved reading about your Sunday! I admit that I'm also most productive during the weekends. Currently, that's probably because we had our 6-year-old with us constantly for at least 6 months now. This week she can finally start school (probably Tuesday) so this means my productivity during the week will be much better soon! (yay!)

I prefer working from home though, as I have my two screens set up and I'm so much more productive working with 2 screens than on a laptop. Your blog was a friendly reminder for me to pick up the timing of my tasks again so that I will have some more insights on when I'm not being productive and how to improve that.

Thanks for the reminder and your lovely blog!

Have a wonderful productive day!

Oh wow! it must be challenging with 6 years old, at that stage, they are so active and curious. I used to teach children around that age and it was draining even just 2 hours lecturing them 😃 props to you to pull that off.

At the moment, I am still enjoying nomadic life and though I would rather be somewhere with two or more screens, my itchy feet keeps telling me to go somewhere- so laptop is more doable hehe. Timing is so underrated and I find out that I know exactly how much I needed to do stuff through timing and stop overestimating them. I tend to go off the rails if I don't time my stuff. At some point I'd love to blame my adhd but ha, I can work myself around it. Happy to find my little rant-ish blog helps 😂

Sounds like an interesting way of doing things..I wish I had a laptop to get back on the freelance horse. It's all HIVE and woodwork until I can get my hands on one.

I like the dies of thinking about retirement early. That could mean just doing it really early or having the best outcome for the right time. We read so little around here than having a cafe with books sounds like a horrible business idea in this town. Maybe it isn't. But people sound here tend to stop going to places once the buzz ends. It is sad.

My Sundays are usually more woodworking and commenting. Maybe laying out the ideas for my posts for the week. If I'm feeling quite productive, I'd start writing some of them and have then in drafts.

Hope you have had a great Sunday!

What kind of laptop do you need? I personally have to replace mine as well and on top of medical bills 😂 it's really not fun. Like they said, when it rains, it pours. Freelancing with broken laptop is a chore, I had to turn on and off a couple of times and it's hindering my productivity while at the same time, I need extra money 🙃

It's not like people here reads too, but yeah some of them and a few people like me actually read in cafe. I think it also depends on the city here e.g. student city will have more readers inside the cafe than non student's city. And just like in Venezuela, growing a cafe is actually challenging especially doing retention.

Do you sell your woodworking at online stores too? I wonder what would be the equivalent of e-bay or similar there.

I need a laptop that works. I usually do some audio and video editing. Maybe I could even start doing some playthroughs with it. So I guess my budget will need to start at 700$ to have enough ram and the rest of the perks. Mine stopped working months ago. Mieny is always an issue, huh?

I guess. But it's true what you say. The city means a lot in that regard. This city has some universities but still people doesn't read that much outside of their own scope. And businesses here tend to become stagnant after their first week. People live in the moment.

Most of my instruments sales have been through Instagram. I don't have any other means of showing the instruments since they are made slowly. If I sold by bulk, I would have an online store.

I’m a student, so I pretty much have an active weekend as well. When I’n not feeling lazy that is. But every now and then, I take some time off for maybe movies or I mostly hang with friends. Unlike you though, student ~shit~ doesn’t allow me to have my weekends on Thursdays and Fridays, so I just take a regular weekend rest whenever I don’t have exam coming or anything like that to prepare for in the following week.

I comment and engage a lot, but I’m mostly not able to leave as many as 10-15 comments on posts in 25 mins because mostly when I do decided to leave comments, that means I probably have a lot to say about whatever I just read that I can’t type in a minute.

It's nice that you take time to leave a comment and read the post. I would say these days it's a long lost art and great to see more people embracing it again. Having to be here for 5 years, there were days when interaction was dead but now, it's reviving and I love that. Although I believe as a social media, it doesn't always have to be a long comment. I am pretty sure people appreciate it even if you just leave thank you note or something. But yeah, there are some comments that are bordeline spammy and I definitely don't like that. Not to mention, the one's that's not reading the whole post/watch the stuff and straight up leave a comment.

I usually start my day with a cup of coffee too.. I did try to stop drinking, yes I success for a week but then still I always find myself going back into that habit.
Oh, your schedule was really different with mine. usual. One of my friend also work as a freelancer and she doesn't have a normal working hours, usually in night shift.
I like that actually been planning to shift with that type of work as being tied in 9-6 job is also tiring.

I sometimes forgot my coffee and would hate those days because I'd turn into a stupid zombie haha. I will most likely be a bum until that first sip of coffee. I guess my caffeine addiction is pretty bad. At some point, I was craving that 9-6 or 9-9 jobs just because the stability it offers but I am pretty bad working with others and also I prefer to work solo. I hope to change that soon! Do you go anywhere during Sunday? or do you often just stay at home?

Coffee is just like cigarettes as we could feel that withdrawal symptoms if we could not take a sip 😂. All energies are gone.

Stability? Yes had that fix income but the disadvantage it is fixed.
You'll be expecting same amount of money monthly

Your schedule is pretty unique, knowing your weekend is Thursdays and Friday then starting your week on Saturday, interesting, If you dont mind, how long it takes you to adjust in this kind of set up. You know we used to rest in weeends (saturday and sunday).

To leave a comments it takes me 4 hours but not continuously.

Not going to lie, with school and university it was difficult. I was that student who couldn't wake up early and would only be productive during what people call "weekend". I also skip a lot of classes because I just choose to travel than going to classes and working 😂 don't be like me. So, I'd say it's pretty natural and now, I just go about my day like that. The downside it, I don't have that many friends and even so, I find it difficult to hangout with them because they have different ways of life and the holidays. I get along well with freelancers and remote workers though as the time is more flexible and we share similar work routine.

4 hours for a comment is pretty long. I personally leave a lot of them if I want to within 25 minutes😂 but sometimes I can be pretty lazy or forgetting when to leave comments. Hopefully starting next week, I won't forget to do that anymore. I enjoy interaction like this and there's always something new to learn, right?

Ohhh your actions before as students become your training of who you you are today 😅. You are in advantage now I think. You really have a passion of traveling. It is obvious from your blog and I think thats we have in common. I also love roaming and exploring around.

Anyway, you have a lot of friends here in Hive so dont mind on this. Though virtual 😆.

Having this kind of interaction make you learned more about the persons.

When I was in elementary school they called me "miss holiday" because my parents often took me on road trips more than they should😂. It was something fine back in the day but now they'd probably expel me if that happened. I wished I was homeschooled then but it was expensive in Indonesia. Anyway, you're right about Hive friends, they are my 24/7 friends and some I met IRL which was fun. I really hope to meet more of them this year and on. You're from Cebu right? I watched a lot of travel vlogs from there and read it from hive that I wanted to visit the place sometime in the future.

🤣 But this tme your everyday is Holiday, your free where you go and what you do 😅 kidding.

Yes Im from Cebu, you will surely love this place as I did, actually Im not originally from this island. Im here for my work and the reason why I choose to work here because of a lot of beautiful tourist destination they have that I want to explore.

If you will visit Cebu soon, let us know maybe we can accompany you, I think you have a lot of friends here from Cebu that is glad to join you to explore the island.

Great day starts with coffee always haha. Hmmmm, I suddenly thinks my reading comprehension and timer. I am fast reader too but commenting takes me time, maybe because I always distracted with everything haha. Typing speed I think also involved, maybe your speed faster than we have, lol.

I am also easily distracted of many things which is why timing works😂 I recently did an experiment to live without schedule and timer. The result? nothing was ever done. I couldn't accomplish anything than when I time what I do and make schedule. Prior today, I didn't even know what day it was haha. That's when I realized that I probably was being so unproductive and being lazy.

Typing speed, yeah that seems to matter but sometimes my brain thinks faster more than I type. Although compared to most, I am quite a fast typer since my work is around copywriting, writing, translation and interpreting so do that for 10 years, and fast typing is natural. But with something needs my utmost care like philosophical stuff, that's when it'll take more more than 20 minutes to reply. Also it depends on the post and my knowledge or the people I talk to. If they are engaging enough and leave a long comments, I am most certain it's an interesting one and should be treated the same way. In my opinion, a comment doesn't have to be long, as long as we get to the point/clear with our intention, pretty sure it's suffice.

Indeed, you will never go wrong with coffee 😊

That's true!

It seems that you really had a good Sunday, that book looks interesting to read also. Your schedule is also unique yet you make it so productive, kudos!

That book is about AI and it's something I recently took interest in. So, maybe if you are interested about AI that book should intriguing for you. I try to have good Sunday because it's like other people's Monday 😁. Most people would start theirs on Monday and try to be productive, so, if you see it that way, actually not that different. I look forward to read your content too!

I also starts my day with a cup of coffee ☺️
And on Sunday, I also make my day productive, with household chores 😅
It's because it's the only day that someone can look for my son while I am doing the household chores especially the laundry.
About comments on hive, as much as I want to comment a lot in the platform, I just can't because almost the time my son was using my phone for him watching rhymes. That's why, everytime he's asleep, I tried my best to read some articles here. ☺️
And also, if the internet connection is fast. Because here in our place, the internet connection is so slow.
