I bet it is expensive. It wouldn't be one I'd carve though. Too soft for me. Ideal for you and musical instruments. Selection of specific materials is always dependent on what one is making. There are a limited selection of woods that are suitable for miniature carving. Of course, I just had to push the envelope with that and do things that really ought to self-destruct. There were two very good successes out of that, so sometimes things aren't always as they seem. One of them in particular I think you'd appreciate, since I incorporated sound into the carving.

Yeah, I bet idea wood for caving falls into the category of being semi-hard wood. I'd to see that one that incorporates sound. It has me intrigued.
I see it has to be firm wood. Figures it's a thing about the structural integrity of the carving. Some of that wood is used for important stuff in luthiery: making bridges, fretboards and as ornaments.
This has me even more interested in taking a look at it.
Any kind of woodworking tends to get you into other crafts. It's part of the beauty. The same is true form other crafts getting into woodworking for any reason. It's interesting how that works! A total lot of fun!
