RE: Weekend-engagement week 18: Your music groove

I am going to add two, with both being for the same reason, these are the songs I sing to Smallsteps when I put her to bed and have done from the day we brought her home, four years ago. I thought she would get sick of them, but she always chooses one or the other each night.

Firstly, Summertime (written by George Gershwin - Ella Fitzgerald version is the well known one I think)

It is just a bloody excellent song with a lot of soul.

Next, Make you feel my love (a Bob Dylan song, people probably know it more from Adele singing it). Again, a great song and perfect for bedtime.

I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling down the avenue
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing like me yet

We had the opportunity to see Adele live in concert in Stockholm while Momone was pregnant, our last trip away together. Adele is a fantastic singer and was really personal with the audience, which made it a brilliant experience.

Sort:

A couple of good choices here, and I like why you've chosen them. I was wondering if you'd drop in actually as I know small likes to sing and figured you might drop one of her favourites.

I think Adele's a pretty good singer, would have been a good concert, we would have gone with you, but you know, we live a bazillion kilometres away. She's gone quiet now though, a shame.

She might drop in later with one - perhaps :)

I think Adele is likely working on a new album, considering she has get herself into "tour shape" apparently.

Whoa that's a huge difference! I think she looks good on the right but it just doesn't feel right to see her like that. I hope she wasn't pressured into losing weight to do this music stuff.

I'm on the same withered and information-less vine that you 3 are on with this one, I had no idea! I remembered Adele's look from years ago but never knew she lost a ton of weight. Crazy stuff!

The withered vine is a popular place it seems. All the cool people are on it.

I am not sure if pressured or not, but I just hope her next album isn't dance music... :D

What the fuck? That's her on the left and the right? She was always pretty but wow, what a transformation. I just showed Faith and she already knew about this transformation...I'm always the last to know. Lol.

I wouldn't have known if H hadn't shown me. =)

Lol...T-dog and G-dog = clueless.

Or next to last. Just sayin'

Lol...Sounds like you're listening to the same grapevine as me and that fucker is giving us nothin'

My grapevine is pretty withered up from lack of rain :)

That's awesome, I love the meaning behind those songs! It's funny, our son loves his songs before bed but do you know what some of his all-time favorites are?

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

Jingle Bells

I think we have a Christmas fan in the making here lol I'm just glad the songs are easy to sing!

lol - I think it is funny how kids do not care what time of year it is - Christmas songs are always suitable :D

Ella's voice so strong and powerful, it is completely understandable why she was called the first lady of song. Talk about staying star power, how many singers are still heard from her days, perhaps some remember Duke Ellington and a few others but when I think of jazz she is the first thought.

That Adele has a fine voice easy to listen to and pretty damn soulful in her own right.

Don't even hear from Ellington on this side of the world much - but at least in Finland, many don't like jazz.

Adele has a lovely voice and when she talks, she kills it with her Strong accent :) She seems like a pretty down to earth person though.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Oh, Lord. Now we're we are talking. Ella Fitzgerald is just the best female voice ever. Period. In the 70s I bought a 'digital press' out of Japan with Ella fronting Benny Goodman. Woman can sing the 'do wop a doos' as well as anybody ever. Add her to Gershwin and it's magic. Pure magic.

Adele has that pure honey voice that you just have to listen to. Nice picks.

And gives me permission to double dip for my entry :)

I like most of Adele's songs. Her voice is just incredible.

I love Adelle. She is one of those artists one can listen to any time and like every single song they produce. And then they have these super songs that move every fiber of your being and can make you cry like a baby (Million Years Ago, for instance).

Her voice is absolutely memorable, versatile, subtle and powerful whenever she wants to make it so. I like that she releases an album and then hides. That's the best thing any artist can do these days.

My brother and his wife saw Adele perform in person - Said it was wondrous.

One of my good buddies bought two tickets for Adele in Phoenix. The show was ppd and by the time she came back around the GF he'd planned on taking was long gone. He's a wildland Firecaptain and he took the secretary from his office because she covers his ass so often. Rented a Limo for the 350 mile round trip. That girl was just over the moon and he has his ass covered for the rest of his days. Everybody won.

He seems like a nice chap and I'm sure the lady he took had a nice time. I've not seen Adele perform but if she came here we'd go for sure.

He cuts a huge swath in the BLM in Yuma. He's as old as me and runs a crew of prison Hot Shots. He's also a Captain and just bigger than life. The poor girl was just beside herself.
