Topic inspiration
I was dismayed to hear Eddie Van Halen passed away this week at the age of 65 years old after a fight with cancer which he mostly hid from others.
Guitarist Eddie, and drummer brother Alex, founded the rock band Van Halen in 1972, the first rock band I followed!
Their album 1984, pictured above, was the very first vinyl record I ever bought when I was fourteen yeas old, back in 1984. I even used money I earned at my first job at a supermarket to buy it - One of my first self-funded purchases ever and yep, I still have it thirty six years later.
This week, in honour of Eddie. it's time to share your groove with hive!
Week eighteen topic
Here's a track off the 1984 album - I hope the link works. They're funny-looking in the video but remember it was 1984, if you were even born, you probably looked funny too - I did.😁
Jump (1984 album, released in 1984)
And here's my favourite Van Halen track and video - I loved this so much and recall this track being blasted over the loud speakers at an Australian Airforce air show back in the day; The F/A18 Hornets were flying around drowning out the music sometimes but...I'll never forget how cool it was, me as a 16 year old little fella, fighter jets and Van Halen. Legendary! Check out the video below.
Dreams - The Blue Angels version (5150 album, released in 1986)
As always this concept is designed to promote engagement so drop your track or piece of music and then stay to engage with others - It's about relationship-building which will help grow your account and fun-factor.
Remember, post your comments here on the topic post, below!

Thanks to the sponsors @bigtom13, @tarazkp, @stevenwood, @meesterboom and myself @galenkp - We've all thrown in some hive to the prize pool for you guys this week.
That's your task folks, so get on it. You have until the very early hours of Monday to get it done.

Hello, dear friends
I could not play the video you posted (Van Halen), it may be my internet connection.
As a musician, I've learned to like and appreciate all musical genres. It is nice when you see in an artist a mix of different instruments and styles. We mostly do Venezuelan folkloric music and pop, but we enjoy most styles.
There are many songs I like but this one by Guatemalan singer and composer Ricardo Arjona has a special meaning for me.
The title is My Girlfriend is Turning Old
It talks about love-at-first sight, unconditional love. The girlfriend is actually his mother, who serves him coffee on a platter, even after he spends months without visiting her. It also talks about the regret we feel as sons when we finally start to understand the value of our mothers' advice, just when they are about to die.
I feel identified by the love of my own mother, which is pure and unmatched. My mother has some of the characteristics Arjona sings about. I am proud of her and all the love and sacrificed she’s given me to make me a man of good. I love her and I feel she turns older every day; it’s harder for her to walk, for instance, or to see. I ask God to give her health and many more years of life to enjoy her company. This song I have dedicated to her many times and that’s why I like it so much. My eternal love, mother.
You list a few good reasons to like this song and I think you for sharing it; I think most have a special relationship with their mother, some more that others and in different ways, but all special nonetheless. Thanks for joining in this week.

tokens.Beautiful song. Really very nice, I like it a lot.
Any girlfriend around me is old. The one that's closest to being a GF is turning 70 before the first of the year. That's old :)
All that and the opening scene has a '66 Chevelle. I really like it.
Hahaha. I gues we are all heading that way. That car is certainly a beauty. I wonder if by the time my generation gets old there will be a cool car from these times.
Yeah. Who would have ever thought of a 70 year old hottie?
I think about it some, I'm sure there will be cars that are collectible, but I sure don't know what they will be.
Sad but true. When will we ever learn? Another beautiful song and very important message.
By the way, at the 3:13 mark.. I had that exact same boom-box as a kid and played the Sh*t out of it.
Some do not learn. Others take advantage of every moment they can spend with their old ladies.
Those radio cassettes were meant to last forever :)
I see you added the picture. Great!
This song raises emotions in anyone who has an aged mother. They aged twice faster in the last decade or so, unfortunatelly. I have written a lot about my mother here, and how hard it is for us now to do simple things like paying a visit. A 2-hour drive became a long distance, sometimes impossible to cover. Those women never imagined they wuld become old in times this hard. They lived hard times and got through successfully. Everything suggested that things were going to get better in their old age. As you narrated in your most recent post, these women were able to raise children with humble salaries or incomes and made sure we'd lack nothing. We should be repaying them the favor, and yet, we can't.
I'll say something about this beautiful lady here, Adelina: she is my godmother and I miss her a lot. She was a clever, funny, and independent woman back in the days where it was unusual to see a woman driving, for instance. She and my mother had the most beautiful relationship. They were friends, sisters-in-law, and comadres. They too have suffered the distance and lack of communication derived from so many issues we are going through.
I have the fondest memories of her and my uncle, a couple that went through thick and thin together and always put family first.
Greetings, everyone.
Great topic. I have developed a very eclectic musical taste. From folk Venezuelan music to classical music, passing through all kinds of international musical genres.
If I had to choose, though, I'd go for the music that brings me the best memories and which I find best to listen to and share with friends: Salsa.
In our culture, learning to dance is a rite of passage. In the 80s, when I was growing up, if you turned, say 13, and couldn't dance in a party or disco you were doomed.
Learning to dance the fashionable genres of the time was a must: Salsa, Merengue Paso Doble, and Disco, to name a few, were some fo the genres any teenager had to be able to dance if they wanted to fit in.
It was not so much about smoking, drinking, or driving (although in some circles that was included), but about dancing. We don't dance much lately, at least not in meetings or parties, but listening to merengue or salsa prompts us to dance, even if alone.
Salsa was probably the most difficult genre. There were always less people on the dancing floor when salsa was played.
This video by legendary Gilberto Santa Rosa summarizes different styles of salsa and related genres as it evolved over the years. Santa Rosa has been one of my favorites. This genre is cheerful, sensual, and fun. Best music for hard times.
Hope you enjoy it
Ah yeah this is cool and @tarazkp may be interesting as he really likes salsa dancing. He and his now wife met at salsa dancing which is a nice story; He may have shared it before here on hive.
I'll be honest mate, I don't dance. I am not good at it, and rarely see the point in doing it, probably because I'm not good at it. I like watching it though, more the ladies than the blokes, but dancing is cool, just not when I do it...When I do it it's retarded. (Or I look retarded when I do it is more to the point.)
Thanks for joining in my brother, and I hope you'll hang around and engage a little with the others. Have a great weekend.
!ENGAGE 25
In my experience as a dancing teacher, you don't like it because you don't know how to dance, just like you said... but i recommend you to give it a try and take classes, BELIEVE me you won't regret it. It's another world.
Dancing isn't my thing, I'd rather chew my own head off.
How exaggerated 🙄
Well, it's just that dancing isn't my thing, at all, and I'd rather do anything else than dance. It's just my preference. We can't all be good at everything and we all have different likes and dislikes which is what makes the world such an interesting place.
Yeah i know! It's ok, you know what they say "for the taste, the colors".
Cool. I did not know about tarazkp's salsa dancing skills.
I have an older brother who was a salsa nerd. He had all collections of LPs and he knew every singer, band and song, but he never learned to dance. We attended parties anyways, but for some reason he just could not dance.
Salsa, like Merrengue, Bachata or Tango, is a very physical dance. It requires coordination, capacity for improvisation, and creativity. Once one gets the basics, it's as fun as dancing can get.
I do not dance Bachata very well, so back in the days when I still partied, I avoided the dance floor when they played it. I had to be drunk to give it a try, and I am not much of a drinker, so... :)
You too have a great weekend. This has been fun. Lots of genres and performers I do not know As @tripode says, you may not like it because you do not dance it,but if you did, I'm sure you'd want to partake.
Watching a woman salsa dance sounds like a great idea, actually salsa dancing myself sounds like the most torturous thing I could imagine, for me and people watching me. :)
Salsa dancing is a bit erotic. A lot of hip movement for the women. A seductive dance.
Yeah, I like watching the ladies do it....I even tried it once but I was terrible at it and decided it's more of a spectator sport for me. :)
Haha. So does my husband. The poor guy just dances his eyes back and forth. As he says, he was born with two left feet.
Salsa dancing is a bit erotic. A lot of hip movement for the women. A seductive dance.
hahahahaha dancing drunk is the best way of dance 😂
It is, but one gets dizzy easier. It can get very embarrassing at times. The desinhibiting (if that's the right word) effect of alcohol can spice the dance some more,no question about it. One dares to do steps one would not try being sober :)
That way you dare to dance and make a fool of yourself without remorse haha.

tokens. What a great video @hlezama ! 100 years of Salsa. I rarely listen to Latino music specifically but I hear it casually ALL THE TIME. It always strikes me as mostly happy and upbeat. I am aware that there is a Spanish Language Blues equivalent, sad songs sung.
How have you been?
Yes, this video is really good: an emblematic voice in the genre and a cool dramatization of the changes in the orchestration, singing, themes, and dance.Hi, @bigtom13
We do have some eclectic genres that combine elements of blues and jazz. Some are just that, only in spanish. Frank Quintero and Jordano are two venezuelan singers who one may place in that category. There are also genres like Ballenato, originating in Colombia, that are characterized by very sad and tragic lyrics. The main instrument of this genre is the accordion, though. I like some, but most of the songs of that genre are just too depressing for me. There is also Bolero and Danzón, which deal with similar themes and use some of the key instruments of jazz and blues.
Thanks for the great information. I am just vaguely familiar with Bolero (due mainly to the classical composition of the same name) which is of course a jacket. But I did find that there was a genre of the same name.
Oh, yes.
@carmenm20 (just a couple of comments down here) posted one of the best examples of latin americanbolero.
I learned about the classical one from a 1957 Cantinflas movie, of all places (Mario Moreno, a.k.a Cantinflas, was a Mexican actor and humorist who satirized Ravel's piece and called it Raquel, his love interest in the movie). The movie is fun to watch and Cantinflas dancing of the classical melody is just hillarious.
I like this rendition of Ravel's Boléro by Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel
That is so beautiful. I am at peace with the world having watched!
@hlezama Thank you for this information, it is very good to know.
@hlezama Jordano and Fran Quintero is more of a pop ballad style than boleros, but they do have the same feeling about romanticism in the lyrics of their songs
Sure, you are right. I meant to place them in the blue-ish, jazzy category, especially Quintero

Aaaaaaah, I miss to dance so much!! I want this pandemic to end so i can go out and have some rumba. Good choice of music.
Hahaha. I know many like you. I love dancing, but I was not that much into partying. Our city is not the safest, that's one of the reasons, and of course money issues.
I see you are also a dancing teacher, great!
I remeber once in the States (in Bloomington, Il) I started to go to this bar where they were playing Latino music on Wednesday to attract latino clientele. It was a very friendly environment, although after the first two weeks the place became too crowded for my taste. My wife and I were very confortable on the dance floor until a couple from Puerto Rico showed up and "swept the floor" with everyone present. They danced casino style, just amazing.
I never got that good. Just basic steps to enjoy the night.
Don't worry, as long as you feel the music and enjoy what you are doing there is no loss.
And yes, i also know the salsa casino, it's really Cuban... it's quite a show when you dance with more couples.
Of course, if you can't dance salsa, you don't have a life (said caraqueño). This reminds me of when I used to go with my uncles to play bolas criollas and matines.
Music has power.
If you're a caraqueño and don't dance salsa, then you're not in anything haha. A caraqueño who doesn't dance salsa is not caraqueño.
That's right. Dancing in some circles is (or used to be) a pre-requisite for social success.
Viva la salsa!
Ay Calor!!!
Lovin' those vibes, digging that rhythm that Latin flair is epic. Fab choice for a feelgood tune... Cha Cha Cha! :D
🤣 🤣
It does feel good. I always tell my children and friends (who tend to listen to sad music when they feel sad), just some slasa or merengue and it will be really hard to feel depressed
This fantastic selection you made, goes through various rhythms, salsa, mambo, chachacha. It was 13 minutes of dancing for me.
I really enjoy the joy of dancing salsa.
And if, as you say, it's a little difficult to dance to, and not everyone masters it.
Hahaha. Hard to watch those 13 minutes and not dance, right?
It was a fascinating falsh-history lesson with great demos.
That's right. Gilberto Santa Rosa has become this sort of bridge that is able to perform the old styles and advance the new romantic salsa beyond the mere eroticism of Eddie Santiago. Cheo Feliciano was great. One of the most distinctive voices.
See you next time, Carlos
I associate a lot of good memories with salsa music, in both my home and vacation life. As far as vacation, we like to visit the Mexico area. I love sitting up at night watch others dance (like @galenkp and to the disappointment of @tarazkp). I like getting lost in the rhythm and enjoying a drink or cigar.
As far as the home life, the population in these part is quite an ethnic mix of Italian, Romanian, African American, Mexican, Spanish, and Puerto Rican. I was just outside on Friday and could hear the Salsa music coming from somewhere in the neighborhood. And boy can they dance. I am not blessed in that capacity. haha.
That sounds like a fascinating mix of cultures (New Jersey, right?).
Do they live harmoniously? :)
As I narrated, even of one does not dance (like that brother if mine), we can still enjoy the genre. It's super fun to watch. I'm glad you've had the chance to do that. For some people, dancing is just a skill to have or not, just like singing or playing some sports, but like sports, we can still enjoy them even if we cn't play them :)
I don't have a specific music genre, I like them all.
But if I had to choose, I would definitely choose Boleros, the music of the Mexican and Puerto Rican Musical Trio Los Panchos. This trio was formed in the 40's
I didn't even plan to be born haha. But it was the music I listened to since I was a child, because my father liked it. Listening to this music reminds me a lot of him, since he is not with me. He died 14 years ago.
Listening to this music is bringing back the most beautiful memories of my childhood with my father.

Thank you, thank you very much
Here it was, hahaha I will make a party and put all these selections really are good.
This is a good selección. Los Panchos represent an era. Even though I am younger for them, many of my elders were fond of them and we could not help but to absorb that connection with the romantic past. As chldren we listened to so many songs of the genre that it was inevitable to develop some afinity for boleros.
Now if I had to choose I choose something else, to avoid feeling sad :)
I am also young for this genre, as I said I listen to all kinds of music. It does bring me a little sadness, but also very good memorie
I think any music that invokes memories of days gone by, and special people in our lives is good music, no matter the genre. I think you've made a great choice and am pleased you've joined in this week. Thank you.

We like Los Panchos. I think that every venezuelan knows at least one of their songs by heart.
Their songs cetainly bring memories to everybody. They are a good example of the good old music of our culture.
Many cultures know the songs of the Panchos. Keeping alive the romanticism between people

Music that brings back warm memories and helps us to recall those we have loved and lost is a great gift. I am certain your Father would be delighted that you have carried his musical tradition forward a generation, music does have a way of connecting us doesn't it?
Beautiful music that sounds like it belongs in a fiesta on a hot sultry summer night, beautiful!
Without a doubt, music connects us with everything, with memories, unites culture and brings us closer to people even if we are distant
I know this group!! Love it. 😁
The group's music you chose to highlight I'm not familiar with, but the sound is lovely.
Thank you for visiting my post. It's certainly a very interesting rhythm.
The group's music you chose to highlight I'm not familiar with, but the tune sounds lovely. I can't understand any of it, but I like the beat.
Hi. Happy Saturday for everybody.
It looks like I am the youngest here so, my musical taste may not be of your liking, but here it goes.
Although I also like music by singers of previous generations, most of my favorite artists are young. One of them is Shawn Mendes. This song, Wonder, is from his 4th album.
I have followed him since he was just a youtuber making covers. I think he is a great case of hardwork and talent making his way through so many good singers.
This is the first time he dances in a video. He had been critized for being just a guitar player. I think he has a unique voice that you can recognize among many.
I learned one of his first songs, Life of the Party. I was so obssessed with his songs that I printed once a lot of songs at one of my aunt's printers. She could have killed me. Printing was too expensive already in Venezuela.
I admire his growth, from learning the guitar on Youtube and make only covers to produce his first single, his first album, tour the world, make wonderful videos. I mean, he is known now worldwide (at least by my generation).
Señorita and Speeches are other two great songs.
He has been featured in some tv series and he has so far lived a pretty decent life. No scandals, no legal problems, no feuds with other celebrities (that I know of).
I love this song (Wonder). I feel like singing and dancing. He is a Harry Potter fan and you can see what he did at the beginning of the video.
I've not heard of Shawn Mendez, or maybe I have heard a song or two but not his name...Who knows? It's quote a nice song and I can see why you like it. He's made four albums so he must have a lot of fans I guess right? An interesting story about how he started on YouTube too.
Thanks for sharing this track and for playing along with the #weekend-engagement topic this week.

I was hoping for a few things when I saw the topic for the weekend, one was music from different languages, and new music from people I have never heard of before, I have gotten that an so much more from the people sharing on this post, so thank you.
!ENGAGE 25
Great. That's the idea. I know it may be easier for young people like me to like some old music, but it is nice when older people find the new singers worth listening to. I know too that some new artist are messing up with people's patience and concepts of what is good music.
First time hearing Shawn Mendez. I like it! I'm always interested in hearing music 'out of my generation' (think grandfather or great grandfather for you).
I love the story of being self made and the video was very slick.
Thanks for introducing me to a new talent!
You are welcome. Glad you liked it.
"slick" new word for me. Is that a word granpas would use? menaing "cool"?
😗
Ahahahahaha. Why would you ask me about grandpa words?
Slick in this case would 'well put together and thought out'. I think it comes from an old printing term 'slick stock' which would be for magazine covers.
My wife listens to a station that plays his music and my niece is "in Love" with him, so I know of his music. I am really liking this particular song. Lots of instrumentation involved. He has a smooth voice, so no wonder he is loved by the young generation. Wow.. 4 albums already??!! wow.
Lol. That's cool.
Hello, I just discovered this community and this week's topic. As I am a musician as well (however classically trained) I decided to take part. I do love Eddie Van Halen, and heard about his death this week. But if we have to share a piece of music that especially moves us, I will share "Barcelona" sung by Feddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe. Two magnificent voices 💗💗
My God. There is a Freddy Mercury video that I didn't know existed. That's just astounding!
Thank you. Made my day!
You are welcome, I am glad that I shared this song. I like every single one by Freddie, but this song opened my eyes towards his voice and music. 💗
Of course I knew his voice and range, but his ability to sing a harmony like that frankly amazes me. Thanks again!
Oh so so different, reminds me so much of the David Bowie and Bing Crosby team up, such different voices different styles, and yet it still works. Music really does take a person back in time.
!ENGAGE 20
Oh, thank you 😊
It proves that the genre does not have to be a boundary, if two musicians are good in what they are doing, the collaboration can work as well.
Thanks again ☺️
It does duets used to be from the same field of music, so it was very nice to see a different take on it.
Ahhhh Jeeze. I had forgotten about the David Bowie/Bing Crosby partnership. Thanks for jogging my memory my friend!

I am also a classically trained musician, piano, which began at the age of almost 5 years old. I was raised on classical music and so have a strong appreciation of it. In fact, I think that scenario is the reason my musical interests are so diverse...I refuse to allow myself to be labelled as one-dimensional.
Freddy Mercury was a great talent and anyone that can sing in counterpoint to him must be also. The sound of these two voices together is powerful and I can see why it's a piece of music that moves you. Thanks for sharing it.
I think this is your first time on the #weekend-engagement topic so welcome, I hope you may also post weekend-related content in this community.

I've known and enjoyed the music of Freddy the same as many people did but I will join the ranks of lots of others here and say wow! I never heard of this one before but it's truly a gem. Thank you for sharing it! I definitely enjoyed it. I love the classical nature of it, though sadly I don't know of any I could share as a thank you but when I spent a few months in Italy, in the hostel I stayed at one of the other guests was an Opera singer. He was really good and it was cool to listen to him practice, even though he would do it at 7 in the morning lol
Welcome to the weekend community!
Hahaha, lol, 7 in the morning 😂🎶
I practice the piano as well sometimes at that time, however I can play softly, or with earphones, so no worries for the neighborhood 😇
Thankfully we had class early so we were mostly awake at the time otherwise it would have been brutal!
Freddie is a hero of mine, with a musical range and a talent so diverse spanning all genres of music, often in the same song. His operatic skill is clear for all to see here. I remember this being performed live to open the Olympics and it was electrifying, the music, the arrangement, the voices stunning!
Magnificent choice, bloody magnificent :D

Thanks ☺️
Still when I am listening to Queen, or some solo Freddie song, or this song with Montserrat, I am amazed each time of his voice range and colors, the harmonic structure of the music, the instrumentation... Everything is just perfect 🤷
What a wonderful and quite perfect way of describing it. Yup the man had a definite stroke of genius and was teamed up with a group of people who knew just how to make the subtle changes that made them each resonate and harmonise wonderfully.
This is a real engagement of the weekend 👌And thanks for commenting to my post, I just got lost when I came back to the main post @galenkp posted, with 480 replies now in this moment 😂
I remember those years before the 1992 Olimpic Games. Freddie composed the song to commemorate the city was chosen to organize them. They played the song live for the first time a few years before the games took place, during the city fest. I was attending as they were playing in front of the Barcelona magic fountain with fireworks and the fountain watercolors. It was unbelievable
You were attending the live performance? Lucky you. Do you mean exactly this performance?
Yes, that's it. I was in the middle of the crowd 😀
Wow 👏👏👏
Really cool stuff. Freddie was so amazing vocally. His range and the was he played with melodies, like a painter in oils.. simply amazing. This is a wild cool choice of share. Never heard it, but now it's on my play list! thanks!!
I am happy that this song is now at your playlist 👍
Thanks for your comment 🎶

Buenos días @por500bolos

1.Not Venezuelan, neither lived there
But, I have connections with spanish language, as I live in Spain 🌞
Gracias por la bienvenida :)
Will You Be There was released by Michael Jackson as a single on June 28, 1993.
I classified the song as blues because any time I play it, I get emotional and I feel that way mostly when I listen to blues. The song is about compassion and care. When I saw the movie free willy which was released 1993, it increased my love for the song especially the scene when willy was finally freed even if it was the end of the song playing then, it really touched me. Michael Jackson was one of my favorite artist so it wouldn't be wrong having his song as one of my best.
Michael Jackson was talented for sure. I didn't really get into his music all that much but my oldest brother was heavily into him. I would listen to his music though and enjoy it well enough. I started to lose interest when he went all whacko and tried to make his skin white and his nose look like a beak...Then the child molestation scenario sort of killed it for me and I won't listen to his music anymore; I turn it off if it comes on the radio.
I think it's rather sad that a person with so much talent made such a mess of their life. He was probably one of the most talented and creative artists of the modern era...A sad demise.
!ENGAGE 25
He was talented for sure, I had always loved his music from my childhood days, being a child then and hearing about his mishap didn't affect my love for his songs. Its funny how you referred his nose as a beak🤣🤣
Well towards the end it looked sort of beak-like didn't it? It certainly was a strange looking nose. It's sad to think that someone could hate the way they look so much that they would do such a thing to themselves.
The greatest of talents comes with a price I guess. Some of the most talented people out there, regardless of the talent, loose at life. They get too big for normalcy and F*** it up in the end somehow. It's always so sad. It also turns me off to the talent when the do something hurtful to others in the process.
Agreed. Being a celebrity doesn't give one license to work counter-productively to the community, especially to innocent children. There's many other examples of this around the place, not just MJ. Reprehensible in my estimation.

I have to be honest. I never got into MJ, he was just way too 'pop' for my Rock and Roll soul.
That said, I always admired his talent and showmanship. I listened to this and enjoyed it, but..
Thanks for sharing it. Differences in musical taste is what makes us the same.
Yea, everyone has their preference. We can't all like the same thing
But we can all appreciate the music. I do.
That's right
Hi @jizzyjoe! The song is lovely and you have memories of a good time in your life, attached to it. That's wonderful. Wow, it's been that long since Free Willy was in the theaters? I was just graduating high school. (I'm old) lol.
🤣🤣 wow, how time flies

May his soul rest in peace, there was one particular song he sang titled WE ARE THE WORLD, although he didn't dance, this made me appreciate him the more, you can check it out here . His songs were always in my lips and I really loved all his songs but after his death everything just suddenly changed, I actually loved his songs as a kid but as one grows up there are certain things we leave behind unfortunately his songs and dance steps were part of it, they are all memories now and now I can't even sing his songs as I used to not even his dancing steps aaaarh! All gone ; moon walker and many more it was really fun.
Hello guys happy weekend and TGIF, I had an artiste and dancer I was crazy about when I was still a kid that everybody began calling me his replicate because I sang exactly like him but I didn't use my money like @galenkp did to purchase his favorite musician's track but I spent most of my time indoor practising his moves and tried getting it better 😂🤣😜 and I totally killed his moves, it was really a lovely experience course I was able to the same very moves and people came to me to teach them dance steps, that person w..... a.... s..... The late great legendary Pop Artiste @galenkp you really had history with this your artiste right from that time till now you still tracked him, although I wasn't even born at that time so I don't look funny......
Michael Jackson was very talented and creative and I used to like his music a lot. I guess I lost interest because of his child molesting ways and the fact he tried to make himself white, change his face and all. It's a shame he messed his life up so badly. It would have been better if he just chose to be himself and focused on the music.
!ENGAGE 25
That's the reason why you see me post his natural skin picture and him to
also made me lose interest in him
ENGAGE
tokens.I can appreciate some of his songs for sure but I don't like him the way lots of others do. Not sure why, regardless of the crazy things that he did. Glad you have an artist you enjoy though, that's important, music is such a great part of life!
Everyone has got his good and bad sides, of course we are human; we are not perfect.
I still can listen to Jackson's music and watch his videos. I think he revolutionized the way music was visually presented. Pity he was such a wacko. My daughter loves him; she is crazy about his work. She has posted about it, painted him and even impersonated him when she was about 7 or 8. I've talked to her about his messy life and all and we just agreed that we would separate the artist from his life to avoid further conflicts.
I think Jackson was one of those artists who should have lived a private life (no fraternizing with kids) and avoided opening his mouth except for singing :)
He messed up so badly every time he said anything, especially when he tried to justify his p-j parties or his feud with Spilberg.
What can we say about that ? it was actually his life and he chosed to live it that way and not being proud of his colour, all that is now an history; he is all gone and forgotten.
Whenever they ask me what my favorite music is, I got into a dilemma, because I like many musical genres; although I could opt for classic salsa and some Venezuelan musical genres, such as the joropo chorus and the calypso.
I remember a movie that was called in Spanish "when destiny reaches us", in that movie people could choose the day of their death, listen, as a final whim, their favorite music. Using that cinematographic fiction, I think what I would choose to listen to "Life is Rose by Edith Piaf" I was very young when I heard it for the first time, I was in what was called a record store at the time, there they sold acetate records and cassette, I was going to buy one of the Beatles, it was normal for them to try the records and cassettes when they were sold, when they played Edith Piaf, I was hypnotized, it was love at first sight that lasts until the present.
I didn't even know the lyrics, but it was really not necessary, it is the beautiful energy that flows from her voice that managed to captivate me.
When the most beautiful voices on our planet are launched into outer space, to serve as a message to those possible extraterrestrials, one of them must be the voice of this little giant of the song.
I love this song by Piaf. I had heard it on the radio and someplace else, but I could not tell who she was or cared much about it. It was not until recently, when the movie came out, that I realized how big a figure Piaf was, and how tragic her story was too.
It is a great pick for a song to represent us before some extra terrestrial life, although they may get the impression that we all are as gifted as she was.Hey, @acostacazorla. Good to see you here.
Although really, later we would have to explain to them, that there are very few who can have that trill, that there are human beings who are also like birds.
Greetings dear friend, I am delighted to have participated in a pleasant engagement. It would be like the Olympics, my friend @hlezama, where only the chosen ones of the gods go.
Hahaha
Good comparison
It was great to have you here, my friend. i hope you enjoyed the company. It can get really crowded and noisy, just like a good latino party.
See you around
La vie en rose is a very nice song, a classic from 1945. It's one of my favourite songs as it's passionate and is about living an enlightened colourful life. Certainly a good choice to drop here. Nice work. Thanks for joining in with the #weekend-engagement topic, your first time I think. I hope you will come back again.

Thanks for a wonderful share. Gave me goosebumps.

Es realmente impresionante.
Espero que nos mantengamos en contacto.
Very interesting to see so many musical genres, some very different from others!
I don't have a specific musical genre since I can hear several according to the occasion.
Today I am going to share with you a piece of music from the bagpipe band "Cardenales del Exito" which began in 1963, it is worth noting that by that time I was not born (I am younger hahaha).
To hear a bagpipe is to travel to the month of December, to remember the family celebrations and the food!
The bagpipes not only make us dance, sing, but also remember.
In reading your text I was interested to see how the Scottish bagpipes would blend with Spanish music...And on listening to the music I then realised there's no bagpipes in the clip at all. Maybe your translator is having a bad day?
Anyway, I went looking on YouTube and found this...Which is bagpipes, and is from Barcelona proving that bagpipes and Spanish people really do mix!
Thanks for playing along this week, dropping this sing which was quite upbeat and energetic so I can understand why you like it.
!ENGAGE 25
I thought I'd share with you this video from Carlos Nuñez, a "gaitero" (bagpiper) considered one of the best in the world.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=65&v=2l1fU5aRFh8&feature=emb_logo
I've always liked bagpipes, played well of course...I've seen a few played really badly and it was rather unpleasant. Generally though I've enjoyed listening to the bagpipes. They're played a lot at military functions and occassions. Kind of nice. Thanks for sharing this one.
Wow! That's an amazing run on the bagpipes, I love it!
Here in Venezuela the bagpipe is a popular musical genre that is interpreted in mixed groups, its themes range from love songs to jocular themes.
Here I leave another piece of music for you to enjoy a little bit of our Venezuelan bagpipes.
Doing my Saturday evening scroll, just wanted to say thanks for the bagpipe tune, I do love the sound of it, and Amazing Grace is a great tune for the bagpipes.
I was curious about what that user meant by bagpipes although I think it might have been a translator error? Anyway, I went searching and found the Barcelona bagpipe thing...Kind of cool right?
Very, there is a lot of music, and the one instrument I usually do not have a problem recognizing is the Bagpipe. Did you think you would get music from the late 30's to present day? Maybe even from the 20's I did see Duke Ellington mentioned.
I think music transcends time and so depending on the piece, and listener, can have just as much relevance many years later. Someone mentioned La vie en rose by Edith Piaf from 1945 but I think that's the oldest track people have mentioned here this week. What a good song that is too. One of my favourites and there's so many spectacular covers of it around, certainly one for every taste.
I got through 35 seconds of that. If I'd have stayed any longer I'd be a tear leaking wreck. Too many times that I've heard the pipes play that song at a funeral. For the record, I can't listen to Jesus Loves Me (Claire De Lune) either.
But I do have an Amazing Grace rendition from a group I've seen live twice at all day blues fests. Blind Boys from Alabama.
It's a powerful song Tom and has the same effect on many around the world. I like this version you've shared. ✅
ENGAGE
tokens. That was certainly get up and move sounds to me, I do not speak any Spanish, but it was still a nice tune.
That's right, when they sound it is inevitable not to dance. Too bad you don't speak Spanish so you could fully enjoy the piece.
Its a nice song, even though I didn't understand the language but I loved the instrumental of the song. I enjoyed it
It is good that in spite of not understanding the language I can enjoy the music.!
Its actually nice
It's amazing how a single song can spark great memories. The best ones are those memories of the good times spent with family. Loved the vibe from this song. 😁
Yes, it is good to be able to have beautiful memories just by listening to a song. I'm glad you liked it 😉
My default response to this question would be Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, I'm not sure what could be more moving than those last 8 minutes of guitars jamming but it's a bit cliche at this point.
I'm posting "Between The Country" by Ian Noe for a variety of reasons. He's from my hometown and was a few years behind me in school (my younger brothers know him better than I do) and is most likely a distant cousin so I'm possibly a bit biased... The video and the song feel like my home county in a nutshell, the sense of hopelessness and decay and lack of opportunity set to music and video. At this point there is plenty of poverty, crime, and drugs there and little else and this song is the quickest and easiest way I've found to give someone asense of what it is like there. I also love music that is on the 'darker' side and pretty much everything he has put out fits that description.
I tend to like country music as it seems to mirror life more than a lot of other music; It feels more real. Of course other genres do also but the music of today is mostly rubbish so it's not a fair comparison. I like Lynyrd Skynyrd a lot, most of there songs have some sort of meaning that runs deeper than the surface and it's just good music.
!ENGAGE 25
I love Skynyrd, I played the hell out of them growing up and don't listen to them very often now but every time I do I'm blown away again by how much there is to their music. If you like Skynyrd and country, check out Drive By Truckers, especially their stuff with Jason Isbell. I've always been rather fond of this one, in part because some of my kinfolk did a little feuding themselves.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xDODEj1gkS4
I listen to a lot of different stuff, but rock is the most prominent of the bunch, for me it's more relatable. I feel like there's plenty of good music out there now but it is definitely harder to find.
I think it's good to have diverse interests in life and because I was exposed to many different things, and left alone to choose what I liked, it's how I would be if I was a parent; I don't just in music but in everything. I can't recall how old you are, but for some reason I'm thinking quite young, so odd you listened to LS but it's music that reaches across generations I think.
ENGAGE
tokens.Yeah, music that's on the darker side definitely has its place for sure. I know I have the periods of time when I am just into listening to things on the darker side. Sometimes it's a few days, other times it's a week or two but it kind of refreshes the musical soul, in a sense. Just like food, each genre has it's own flavor!
I am going to have to remember that analogy, that's a lovely way to put it. It definitely can be refreshing, I like it as a reminder of all the places I'm not in.
A few years back I discovered on YouTube that dark country was a thing and don't know how I missed it for so long. It was a refreshing change of pace for sure.
Oh, God. New to me and hits me right between the eyes. You can bet I'll hear more of his. Thank you.
I love me some Skynyrd, The whole lot. I forget how cutting edge they were with the three (or 4) screaming guitars. Like you, I don't listen to them much but every time I hear them I crank it up. In the Ghetto and Curtis Lowe are two that just thunder me from outside the norm. Damn. Raiford, too.
I've been thinking this morning that I need to interject John Prine into this thread, and I guess right here right now is as good a time as any. I heard his first album in it's first week in '73 and have been a fan ever since. This is from his last album (there may be one more-his wife hinted as much after he was an early CV victim).
He was asked when he released this album if he had any fears after 50 years of releasing. "I've had cancer. Twice. I'm not afraid of anything"
Raiford is always a good one to give you the chills. All I can do is write about it was another deep cut that I loved.
My dad started us on Prine at an early age, Paradise is just about required listening for anybody living here. I got to see him live once, although the show was postponed for a few months because of one of those bouts with cancer. That was a hell of a show! I've heard of people playing/singing his songs at funerals in lieu of praying :)
I've seen Prine at least a half dozen times. From packed venues to intimate houses and he was always just great. Another RIP guy that I'm going to miss.
Indeed. Did you know Prine co-wrote "You Never Even Called Me by My Name" that Coe had a hit with?
I did as a matter of fact. I'm a pretty big Prine junkie and have a couple of friends that fit that category too :)
Yeah, I really love these two music I am below (I know you said a piece though)
https://youtube.com/watch?feature=share&v=RBumgq5yVrA
I love songs basically that has guitar in it but these two seems to be different. I have been this listening to passenger really often for some days and it is still having a unique feel. I basically love listening to the lyrics.
I first heard about helplessly in 2017 and learnt how to play the song on my guitar because I wanted to sing it for a girl I liked back then (even though I don't have a great voice). But learning the song made me love it.
I think I have done a guitar cover of the song before. I will come back to paste the video link to that cover here 🙂
Beautiful tune Stardude!
Love the vibe when the track heats up a bit, awesome string plucking awesomeness. BTW even without a great voice I think that girl, whoever she was would've loved the gesture. This track will be in my playlist for a little while I think. Thanks man :)
I should be thanking you man. Yeah she did when I played the guitar along. !tip
Duuude!!! Your fingers are like bloody lightning man, watching the cover on 3S right now, oh wow that is a gift I wish I wasn't so bloody uncoordinated, I would LOVE to be able to play like that, you rock brother! :D
You look so happy to be playing but a little self conscious maybe too? If so get rid of the self consciousness and let you shine as you are incredibly talented, share more! Nice job :)
Yeah, I am working on that and also to play better. I am even planning on paying for online tutoring. I want to become better.
Good for you man. If you have the belief and the commitment, nothing, not all the armies in the world can stop you, be sure to share your progress and improvements when you do :D

🎁 Hi @stevenwood! You have received 0.1 HIVE tip from @starstrings01!Helplessly is also a track my 16 year old daughter loves. 😍
Nice choices @starstrings - and yes, I play guitar too (was married to a rock&roll musician in my other Australian life!) and like the tracks you've chosen on that level too. 😊
!ENGAGE 20
Wow.. I guess you do sing along while playing the guitar. The guitar is an awesome instrument.
Is your daughter on Hive also?
I have a degree in classical piano and yes, I sing a lot. But not as much as I want or should. My daughter is on Hive @ploimrt but has struggled to find her posting groove. She hasn't given up but hey, she's 16 and she does things in spurts and starts, when she feels like it. I'm hopeful to see her back posting soon. But the more I push her, the less she's likely to do it. 🤣
!ENGAGE 15
Haha yup 2 Daughters... 2 accounts, little activity but as you say the pushing is counter-productive, hopefully our girls all find their own way here.
A degree in classical piano, oh how I wish I didn't have sausage fingers & the co-ordination of a drunken tortoise, I envy you that gift ((a gift that likely took thousands of hours!!!)) Singing loud, openly and often should be a universal rule for life for all, it is so damn good for the soul.
Happy weekend and an even better week to follow :)
Like most "gifts" it really just comes from practice & desire combined, and the commitment of time.
It is what it is about Miss 16 and Hive - I occassionally remark to her that it would be cool to buy a new car for cash when her other friends are swimming in car finnance and dead end jobs.... I think that thought is burbling and I'm just letting it rest for now. I will share with her this morning that I have just hit 11,000 HP and climbing - and explain to her what that will be worth in USD and Thai baht when Hive hits $5, $8.17 (where it was when I first heard of steem) and $10+.
Singing is exurberance - or sadness, or beauty - made physical. And yes, a daily joy.
It's been an amazing weekend so far and we're headed out to hear some live music this afternoon.
Appreciate the commments Steve - following you from Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand.
!ENGAGE 25
Congratulations on that wonderful goal of 11,000, I am well aware it has been well earned, you are an inspiration as far as engagement and activity go, strange that we don't cross paths all that often even though I often catch riverflows, Aishlyn and miniSH from the NatMed community, the blockchain can be funny that way.
We started a mere month apart ($8.17 prompted me to check as I remember it well lol )but you have made so much more use of your time here than I, although I don't dwell on what has passed too much only on the goals I have set myself here.
Massive best wishes for the next stage of your journey, may that momentum carry you forward at speed but more importantly, may it be filled with fun, friends and fulfillment :)
ENGAGE
tokens.Yeah I totally understand. My 17 years old younger sister @pejupops is like that. In fact, I'm tired of giving her reasons to be active. I went as far as making a deal with her by paying for her phone bills every month only if she can be active. Upon everything, she didn't fulfill her part of the deal 😅.
I'm patiently waiting for her data subscription to finish and she should finish watching all the movies she has watched on her phone. Then I will remind her of our deal she did not fulfill.
I guess everything is because they are still young and maybe doesn't know the value of doing plus getting noticed on Hive is not an easy thing. Takes serious work 😢.
Oh man, I reckon everyone here knows people like that... My own Daughters are the same... They could be here, they should be here, being here would help them to grow as people but nope!
I quit making deals now lol. Hopefully she finds her own way here, you've done your job by opening the door.
Look at how you have grown! Proof that commenting, makin' friendships and being a cool respectful guy works... BTW you are gonna smash that 10k goal before the end of 2021 man.
Wow thanks for motivation. I hope I do. I am close to 6k HP atm. Seen you have gone through my profile. Thanks for that I really appreciate.

Isn't that just heavenly? And the voice singing them just makes you melt. Don't laugh.
Thanks for highlighting Passenger. Brings back memories.
Your don't laugh actually made me laugh. 😂😅..
I envy passenger because he is a fine guitarist and a great singer 🤭.
Thanks for the comments 🙂. !tip hide
What a lovely voice this girl has and those lyrics mate, nice.
Those lines are nice, although the whole song is pretty good, I can see why you'd like to sing it to that girl you liked. I actually don't think it matters that you may not be a good singer, it's about the thought...Although these days that may not be the case I guess - I'm a bit old fashioned.
This is a great choice of song, thanks for playing this week.

Lol.. yeah thanks 😊. Isn't easy to play the part of the voice on the guitar but it was an interesting time though.

Hey see you here again. Here it is a great song.
That passenger song always brings back a lot of memories (bad ones really) but already looking at it from this perspective it doesn't affect you much and you enjoy it.
I had not heard Tatiana, but she sings very well, i loved that song.
Well there's a new track to me. I like it, I can see why you'd like to learn it and sing it to a girl.
Nicely done.
Wow! The two are pretty cool songs, they are both emotional songs 👍
I liked that song by Passenger, I had never heard of them/him before, thank you for that I will have to look for more of his work.
Sad to Hear of Eddies passing. We played a bunch of VH in the bar recently as a tip of the hat to a true original. As we are living in infectious times I'm getting my Infectious Groove on
Hey man, I like the track...Those bloody clowns freak me out though bro...I'm not a fan of clowns. I'll check this band out a little more for sure as it sounds like something I could get into. Freaky video to accompany a quirky song that does exactly what it say on the tin it was indeed violent and funky.
Although I believe I am gonna see some of those video extras in my dreams tonight. Banging tune ScubaDude, never encountered it or them before. Reading the comments this track achieved the infectious label easily. Happy weekend my friend :)
Thanks for the topic man, and a huge thanks to all of the sponsors! These topics each week are really great and ones we all appreciate.
So let me get this straight, you want me to write a formal post in the Hive Gaming community with the tags in Latin, header in Gaelick then the footer in Mandarin to enter the contest, right? Or do you want me to like, reblog and then post on Twitter my entry, to be picked up by the local town crier and then broadcasted to you via radio waves? Lol I know some people don't read the rules for these, I've seen a few posts and I just sigh, but what can ya do?
I am totally out of the loop of the news on this type of stuff lately, since I no longer drive into work and listen to the radio. I typically hear this stuff on the radio but not anymore lol. Sucks that he died, I wasn't really into Van Halen but I could appreciate their music for sure. They had some good songs, though I don't know them by name, I know them by sound. A lot of people know their sound, so I guess that's one of the things they go for as artists, right?
My choices for this week.. hmm I have so many songs I love for different reasons. Let's start it off with one of my absolute favorites. He didn't write the song (if I remember correctly, it was U2) but I think having him sing it was utterly perfect, in my opinion. It's a very somber song, one I kind of think of the early days of my relationship with my wife. I made some mistakes, but don't we all? That's what I tell myself at least lol big thing is to learn from them as best we can.
Johnny Cash - The Wanderer
This one was a bit of a recent find in the past few months but only because the album version with the extended guitar was new to me! The radio version is so much shorter and I've known about that one for years. I love the chill vibe of the bass guitar, and the different instruments that they have going on at once. I don't hear piano used too often in rock-type music so that was cool! I kind of like the sound of his voice, strangely enough. It's surely heavily edited but it's got an interesting sound to it.
Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart
Now to make it just 3 selections, let's round it out with one of my favorite songs from old Dean. This one just has such a fun, upbeat vibe to it and flows nicely. I'm shocked that it's not one of his more famous songs but people like what they like, I suppose. I am always happy when I'm in my car, listening to my iPod and things one pops on!
Dean Martin - On an Evening in Roma
Even though I had the chance to listen to country music since I was little, mainly through movies, I did not know much about Cash until I watched the biopic Walk the Line and I had many years prior watched the series the Dukes of Hazzard, but never paid much attention to who was behind the soundtrack. I like some of his songs (most songs in the genre are kind of depressing for me). I think he has quite a few memorable songs, like Wayfaring Stranger and Walk the Line.
Ah those are some lovely memories there, I don’t think johnny himself could have picked a better actor than Joaquin Phoenix!
I don’t think I’ve heard the first song you mentioned, I will have to correct that! Some of my other favorites of his are Boy Named Sue and Tennessee Flat Top Box. He’s got great range!
!ENGAGE 15
I'm giving this comment an upvote because you watched Dukes of Hazzard, one of my all time favourite shows when I was a kid. :)
Hahaha! It was too one of my favorites. Of course, I did not know anything about the American Civil War, General Lee or the Confederate Flag. It was good that I didn't; that might have predisposed me for the show.
It was fun because in the spanish translation they did a great effort to replicate southern/texan accent, which was great years later when I started learning English. I never perceived the southern accent as a linguistic/phonetic challenge, probably thanks to that show.
It would have been cool if you learned to speak English from the show...Now that would have made for some interesting dialogues. :)
🤣🤣
Ah yes, a bit of Johnny Cash huh? I like country music, more the modern stuff, but can listen to some Cash now and then - One of the pioneers. Nice choice.
Death can for cutie has been mentioned before and is now firmly on my list of check this our G-dog artists which I am doing on Sunday...And Deam Martin, smooth mofo that he was.
Nice choices bro, diverse, which is how I would classify my own music tastes, and legit. Thanks for joining in, and following the rules, although did you see the one about hopping on one leg whilst you were posting? Probably not. :)
!ENGAGE 25
I swear I was hopping on one leg during the selection!
It’s nice having diverse music choices, you can be in lots of different moods and have music to fit each mood or situation. I’ve got the diversity of music palette like a fine wine connoisseur lol. Minus the pretentious nature of course.
Hope your weekend has been good, the music selections I was listening to here was awesome!

That’s great! They are a really interesting band, I like their unique sound. They have some good songs on their albums, another one that comes to mind is Soul Meets Body. I have a bunch more in my iPod in my car but I can’t remember the names. They’ve got over 100 songs I think, so there is a lot to choose from!
I’ve definitely gotten a lot of cool songs to listen to this weekend!
It has been a nice post to comment surf and read through. So much music, and so little time.
The original is absolutely awesome however they opened it up and are doing activism versions.
Definitely a big hit for the version for standing Rock but my favorite one is this one...
Native American music and culture is coming back we are not going away and our second generation is already doing amazing things world.
Absolutely beautiful and powerful statement: "You don't live here, so you don't know. We do." Thanks for showcasing this video. I had not seen it before. I'm currently researching my native American background.
The bears live here, the moose live here, we live here.
I wish you all the success in uncovering your heritage because your heritage means everything. it is where you came from and it is where you are going to go...
So true. Thank you so much for your kind words. Protecting our previous resources if worth fighting for. I know I'll never stop pursuing and documenting each step of my quest. But I feel that each successive generation takes our family further from discovering this part of our history.
Take care and have a great weekend.
Oh shit. I just love this! I have some really good friends in the community and get a lot of video links to peruse. One of my friends is in a Drum up on the Rosebud Res. Remind me during the week, I'll pull up some of their vids.
I love some of the 'new' dancers. That kid that dances the rings to rap is stupid good.
I really think that the individual you were talking about recently passed away... And yes you was absolutely amazing with the ring dance or is it hoop dance...
I am definitely hoping to get a native American group going to reward native American artists as well as empower my relatives who are stuck on reservations.
Let me know, it's not like I'm a whale or anything, but...
I'm really sad to hear that guy left us. His 'interpretation' was just stunning.
Well if you have Discord we could always hook up on there and see what we could do about getting something started.
Oh yeah, this is a cool song! Nice beat and sort of powerful you know? I love the footage they used in the video too, the boxing really suits, some nice powerful images. I can see how this would inspire some emotion for sure!
Great share, and something I'll investigate some more now. Nice work!
!ENGAGE 25
And I especially like the second version. Having the elder speak along with that emotional and powerful music. It really does much to underscore the actions that they are taking to save the environment in their Homeland
You know, I really respect a culture that just get's on with perpetuating their culture and doesn't mind combining it with modern, relevant influences. It's great to want to hold onto the old ways, essential in fact, but nice also to create new things that can someday be looked upon as a part of that group's culture.
I only hold what I have for the future of my relations.

tokens.I love the heavy heart pounding beats of Native American music, I got my first taste/hearing via Buffy Sainte-Marie, Starwalker is one of my favorites from her.

When I go and do security at the Delta Park pow wow every year on Father's day weekend I can feel the drums for the next week in my chest...
I love the sounds of those drums, my wife does also she bought one and even though neither of us are real musical, just pounding on it sometimes helps during tumultuous times.
This is a great video. We know very little about native americans in our own country, let alone in other countries. It is great to see that at least they are doing this kind of musical statement over there. I don't know of one native Venezuelan singer or band. The government has been "promoting" native culture for 2 decades now, but that is just hipocritical statements to trick international opinion. Our indians are not better than any other group in the world.
If you see what the government has allowed chinese and russian companies do with our indigenous lands you cry. All kinds of crimes are being committed, additional to the ecological destruction.
I absolutely know and understand what you're going through and this is a huge issue worldwide for indigenous communities and people as I've stated before it would be really nice to have an indigenous peoples group that could reward these cultures and establish a safety net for them and their activism
Yes, that would be great. In the case of Venezuela has been pathetic because the leftist government even created a ministry for indigenous affairs, it appointed native venezuelan in many important possitions, but all of them sold their people's values and interest and have served the government, even when that means harming their peoples or ignoring all the horrible crimes that are being committed in those sacred lands
We need some real change and support from the indigenous Community worldwide and I think blockchain technology could hold the hope for that future

Here's my first LP, 1971 and I think that I also bought "Imagine" by John Lennon. (You must have been one year old lol)
I am a man that listens to many music styles, but I favor rock and classics.
This Jethro Tull LP was banned in South Africa because of the "My God" song.
A friend got the LP for me from the UK.
The flute by Ian Anderson mixed with the rock music transfixed me at the time.
Hey mate, thanks for dropping in. I've not listened to much Jethro Tull but have heard this one before and like it.
I've also got a very broad taste in music and am glad of it...Being one dimensional isn't my thing. It's funny to hear about music being banned...Remember that movie Footloose? Kind of weird that people can feel so strongly about it to actually ban music. Still, I suppose there's been some very controversial music in the past.
!ENGAGE 25
If you watch the 1971 live video, you will see what a master band front man does with a flute Galen. We were fortunate in those years to have real music, in fact we were spoiled with great music, as I am not much of a fan of the modern techno music.
People were quick to criticize music and not only Footloose, but also the Rocky Horror music, and the Beatles saying that they were more popular than God.
Then there was T Rex singing about "standing on the sand with my balls in my hand" hahahah.
Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Santana and any other band with a strange name was frowned upon here and if one listened to their music, one was condemned as satanic.
Ah, the good old days and I was only 17 years old in 71.
Thank you for the token bra!
Humans are funny creatures Zac. Makes me laugh sometimes, and want to throw up my hands in exasperation at others.
So glad that you and I are not human lol. Some dare to call me eccentric, and I have a suspicion that you wear the same suit lol.
I've been called many things in my life, many uplifting and respect things I can be proud to be called, and many that are much less flattering. All I can be to others is what they perceive me to be...Some get it right, and some are blinded by their own ignorance. Yep, been called eccentric also.
Humans can be terrible creatures I guess, the way the act, the sense of entitlement and the callous way they treat the planet. I'm glad I'm from another planet, just an alien on a mission to gather intel on humans. 😁
Well, join the club, as a child I was called many derogatory names because I had a single parent. She was a stunner and all of the married women feared that their husbands would run after her. We were also banned from playing with their children, or entering their homes. But luckily we lived in a cosmopolitan area and I had a league of nations as friends.
In the late 60s things changed because people knew that I didn't care and in fact that I despised them and their pastors, plus I was a boxing champ, so they started to treat me differently with much better names, but the damage was done and I continue to this day on my own with respect to all.
I perceive you to be a fellow alien and that's why we are friends!
Ps. Only my wife calls me eccentric and like you, I couldn't be bothered what others call me, just as long as I am kind to everyone. lol.
That's one cool green body suit that you have on here and I wonder if they have xtra large in that color.
Eccentric is a way lot more polite term than I usually hear about me :)

I was hoping someone would have a Jethro Tull selection, so dang much music on this one little post. A shame there just is not enough room for all the music. Armies of my Brothers that line always got me. I love that I have found a few new ones I missed, like Joe Satriani and Death Cab for Cutie, and a few others. It is a good music weekend.

Some really great music on this post.
And then we haven't even touched so many other rock groups.
I am thinking here of Led Zeppelin, T Rex, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, and all of the rock ballads.Hahaha, you are right and maybe @galenkp must start a "MusicBox" channel?
Thank you for the token my friend and have a good Sunday!
I an surprised about the non mentions of them, but there is just so much music and they are so well known that I think people wanted to bring up some of the less often mentioned that they have enjoyed music wise, which was nice because I saw/heard a lot of new music that I had not heard before.
Yes, you are correct, as I also picked up some new music there.
Blessings! Like I said elsewhere, that was indeed a great post by @galenkp.
"Eyeing little girls with evil intent.."
Jethro Tull was just amazing in the day. Music nobody had ever heard.
And so much criticism Sir Tom.
They were accused of corrupting children and I can't remember the exact argument, as it was so long ago, but I do remember it was about the lyrics of one song on the LP. Titled; "Mother Goose" offending lyrics; "As I did walk by Hampstead Fair, I came upon mother goose so I turned her loose, she was screaming"
I think some teenagers went and turned captive animals loose.
Well, I'm guessing they had a hand in corrupting me, but I was no longer a child :) And I probably did a fair job of corrupting myself.
Hahaha, as long as the long arm of the law stayed away from you.
I had a few scraps with them in my younger "wild" days and I have a faint suspicion so did you lol.
Ahahahahaha. Maybe once or twice, it was always some one else's fault. The truth is, I skated pretty well. My younger brother got caught at everything. :)
Yeah, my mistake was always being caught red handed lol.
Small fines, but thank goodness never imprisoned.
I could hardly agree more...Such moving musical gold here. You know, I had to look twice at this chap in the video as at first glance I thought it was a guy I work with at the office although on second thoughts that guy I work with could never be this cool.
Thanks for joining in this week nonames, nice to have you back.

Holy Cow! Sweating Guitarists? A fucking drummer? A unique front? That band checks all the boxes.
I tried just listening and they are quite good, musically. But I kept having to go back to the video, like watching a train wreck.
That sister has cocaine thighs.
She has a Marilyn Manson vibe and likes to include shock elements into her live performances, all while the actual band plays on somewhat undeterred and normal in the background. Steals the show a bit, while confusing some members of the audience. The internet was curious about her figure, and so was I. If this was twenty or thirty years ago, for sure that would be drug related. Apparently she's just one of those tall lanky chicks though and quite healthy, so that's good.
It was a Rolling Stones reference. Can't You Hear Me Knocking. Some live versions have the line 'she's got cocaine thighs' instead of 'cocaine eyes'.
Like I said, it's pretty good musically and I'm going to listen only. I love that young people are playing music! Rock and Roll lives!
If there's one thing I'm good at, it's missing a reference then rambling on about some other shit as if I actually know what I'm talking about.
I've been rocking Van Halen all week and my wife only said yesterday how cool it is to listen to music played by actual instruments. I'll be honest, I have trouble listening to most of the nowadays music, although I listen to a lot of modern country music and heavy rock and heavy metal. I agree with you, it's good to know there's people out there that play these things called instruments rather than rely on a few keys on a keyboard and a sampler to make the music.
A nice share, and I'll investigate Starcrawler a little more for sure.
With Bubbles, you need to send me a nickel when he makes it on there...I'll pay the freight. Lol
Also, welcome pre-back not really back just yet. :)
Hmm nice, I like it and, again, the sound is instruments and a real voice. I might have to take a look at the Canadian scene. There's nothing here in Australia that's ringing my bell to be honest and considering that I rarely don't have music playing I have a voracious appetite that needs feeding. Cheers once again!
I've actually heard Panic Attack before-for the reason you stated. Another friend said that they might be turning a whole new generation to Rock and Roll.
They did an unplugged live show; the crowd seemed older. A somewhat new group attracting the older generations says something as well. People of all ages have been craving these sounds for quite awhile. All it takes is a few good acts to get the ball rolling. Then you get those bands nobody has ever heard of opening shows; the circle grows.
Me too, it can not be 99% better than that of old skul
I don't like the manufactured rubbish they create simply to hit the charts...I like something with more depth.
I'm curious as to what you're calling modern country @galenkp. Stuff like those good ol' Kentucky boys, Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton? Or the more Nashville/mainstream stuff?
Well, I'll be honest and say that anything my ears like or that moves me in some way. But the really old 60's stuff is less favourite. I'm not one of those people who doesn't like something because it's new and fashionable, nor am I the type to not like something because it's old and unfashionable...So, whatever sounds good is on my playlist. Right now I'm diggin' on Luke Combes, Florida Georgia Line, Old Dominion and Tyler Rich, but I like a lot more...My musical taste is very broad.
I really like this one, reminds me a lot of concrete blond and Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the video was great, I loved how that one started. At least when the video was unavailable one of the options was at least a song offering from them.
Quite a few of the sounds on my current playlist were suggested to me by the algorithm gods in some way. Sometimes a platform like Youtube Music does a fine job of opening the door to new things, then one can dig deeper and find better. Grooveshark used to be a good one for random music discovery but they shut that one down unfortunately. Pandora was another one but they became anti Canadian one day, switching off access in this part of the world.
I have never understood why things like that happen, I heard from a few people when I was doing a lot of on-line music radio listening that Pandora was losing touch, and somehow along the lines I lost touch with their music offerings. Most of my music now comes from youtube, about the only thing I think they are good for.
I listen to Amazon Prime Music for several hours every day. Generally I pick an artist/band and listen to their 'station'. The mix is pretty good. Right this minute I'm on the Carlos Santana station and listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd. It works for me.

tokens.I don't seem to be able to play it here - maybe it is a licencing thing.
I am singing the song in my head though, the way I imagine it to be.
Sometimes these video links only work in a new tab. If you have a middle mouse button, click that while hovering over the link (top left, title). If it's blocked in your region, it usually says so directly. Try the new tab trick though, as I'm sure what's currently playing inside that noggin of yours sounds far different and quite similar to Mary Had a Little Lamb.
Actually my sound was pretty spot on, just to the tune of Mary had a little Lamb.
It actually played normally that time - must have been aliens messing with my browser again. I have found they do it often - and they like porn.

Bubbles! The fashion king! That's pretty cool. I love it!
That was different, of course I had to hunt for the video, but I liked it and the video, the end was a nice fade there.![unavailable.png](https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/bashadow/X9luRQuU-unavailable.png)
But Youtube was nice enough to offer me music and videos that would go well with missing out on Mr Bubbles.
That was moving alright! I had to move on to the Nirvana cover because it reminded me of how long it has been since I heard it. Lol, I hadn't realized Bubbles was putting out music videos!
The world needs far more quality entertainers, like Bubbles. The man can do it all!
Lol, indeed!
I remember that 1984 Van Halen Album, it climbed the charts in that year. I´m maybe a bit old school and I love the Eagles particularly Hotel California. It reminded me of the young days, til now I still keep their CDs. Sometimes, I just look them up at Spotify and listen to their old songs. A pity that I missed their concert in Vienna as I was staying in Andalucia (Southern Spain) at that time.
The Eagles are awesome! I saw them here in Adelaide live; Great concert, if somewhat costly to get tickets. There's something soothing about their music, it's just mellow.
Great pick for sure and to be honest I'm surprised this is the first time they've been mentioned.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope the rest of your weekend is really nice.

Thanks! There are a few Australian Bands I like---just a couple of years ago , I saw ACDC´s live concert in Vienna, it was an amazing experience too, they were great and people were dancing all over. I also love the tunes of Little River Band, so mellow and nice to hear, they were one of may faves in the 80s.
Besides rock, I also love hearing the blues of BB King and Earl Klugh´s guitar ... Nowadays, I love hearing Jason Mraz´s albums as well as old hits of Lisa Stansfield especially "8-3-1." I could dance with her music.
Have a great weekend too my friend... Wish you and your wife a blessed Sunday!
You mention the Little River Band...Did you know that someone here on hive was married to the founder of that band? True story. They were a good band back in the day and I liked them too. :)
That´s interesting to know about the lady who was married to the founder of Little River Band., I wonder whether she´s still active here.
She's active daily, in fact she has commented on this very post. 🙂
I think I know now who she is..... She´s Marike, right!? We ´ve been interacting with each other in the Natural Medicine Community and she lives in Thailand. What a small world! Hello @artemislives!

Many thanks!
Congrats for the idea you had for this weekend. I had never seen so many comments on a single post :) Talking about music we like is the best.
After I finished reading the prompt there was one song in my head: Queen's The March of the Black Queen
This may not be the band's best known song, but I love it.😍Hello Mr @galenkp, 🤗
The song itself may not make much sense but what made me fall in love with it was the orchestration and arrangements. There is a documentary where Roger Taylor says how transparent the tape was because of all the recordings (takes?) they did.
I think that what I love the most are the rhythm changes. It begins like a classical royal piece and then it hits you with a ...I don't know how to describe it. I had never heard anything like it, but it's crazy.
After all that madness comes an angelical slow part, like a coo. It's beautiful and pleasant to the ear. When you're about to fall asleep with that coo, a rocking part comes to wake you up, like when your mother gets into your room, opens the window, turns on the TV, the lights, sits on top of you, just to wake you up (I have to admit that's my favorite part).
And when you think the song is about to end, it surprises you with another great alegro. It's just fantastic!🌟
Hope you like it.💜
Great song and choice for the topic this week! I've been a big fan of Queen for a long time and whilst the mainstream tracks get so much attention, deservedly so, some of their lesser-known tracks are awesome too, this one included.
I was hoping you'd drop by and add your perspective and was wondering if you'd drop a music video or actually sing one yourself!
Thanks for joining in.

Hi! 😁🤗 It's good that you liked it, and it's good to know that you are Queen fans ... 👍 There are many songs that are spectacular and they did not publish for different reasons.
Of course I wanted to sing the chosen song, but I have a sore throat and the doctor recomiendes that I should rest My throat for 15 days, that's why I have not published covers. 🙁
No singing for 15 days? Oh no! I think you'll miss it greatly although when you start again I'm sure your voice will be as lovely as ever.
Thanks for your pretty words, I feel a little sad because of that,😌 I used to sing every day and It is not easy for me not to do it. But I'm trying.😘
You'll sing again, it won't be long.

Yeah, the movie is fantastic, It is really good know all the band story.😁
Thanks for the comment!
I just love Queen. I have a really good friend that feels about Queen the way I do about the Rolling Stones so am quite familiar with their whole body of work (not to mention that I think I owned every Queen LP).
This is a serious good choice for today's topic. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you liked it... 😍Yeah, Queen is the best, I wish I had all their LPs 😚hehehe...
Thank you for the comment.😁
This duet by Sting & Cheryl Crow never ceases to move me and leave me feeling somewhere between wistful, sad and vaguely hopeful. I'm reminded that you can't MAKE someone step up and be there... you can't WILL them to believe in themselves or in a love that might last. I love that opening line "My ysterdays are all boxed up and neatly ut away"... only they never are quite. And every time I hear this song the boxes open a weeny bit and a bit of sad heaviness oozes out...
I'm also reminded constantly be this song that none of us is born knowing how to DO this relationship thing!!
The classical musician in me appreciated the cello and the piano... and the vibe between the two of them is lovely. They exude exactly what they're singing about - a wistful, companionable "something" that always is sort of still there.
Thanks for the great music I'm off to explore and also support in this LOOOOOONG comment thread! 😍🎹🎼🎶
This is a nice song, I've always liked it; Sheryl Crow has a pretty nice voice, quite powerful against Sting's more mild singing voice. Nice lyrics too. Music has a habit of reaching inside and twisting sometimes and this could certainly be put into that classification.
This is a great choice and song to drop...Thank you.
There's a lot of music in the comment thread and I'm planning of spending a little time on Sunday going through and taking a listen, exploring the artists, as I think I'll add some to my Spotify playlists. I'm glad I chose this topic this week, I figured it would bring me some new musical options, and it has.

Music is SUCH a powerful force and I always love seeing what people listen to - it tells you a lot about them too, much like their book collection (or lack thereof) does.
I'm planning to have a doodle through here later evening and tomorrow as my VP recovers... it's always NICE to find some new music. Living under a rock here in Asia one tends to be out of the mainstream 'thng' and more likely to be listening to bamboo flute, handpans or something "worldmusic". LOL. I'm going to this tomorrow afternoon - if the musicians are OK with it, I will try to do a little 3speak video:
You're right about the what they listen to and read thing. However, my musical tastes are so varied it wold be difficult to get much on a read on who I might be from what I listen to. You mention world music though...When we travel we always make a post of listening to the music from the area/location - Makes us feel more local. We tend to come back with a few nice selections and continue to listen to them...Sort of keeps the holiday vibe rolling.

My music tastes and collection and my library might be just a little hard to get a real firm grasp on. I like a really wide range in both.
I'd never really thought of my library. Motorcycle repair manuals to Anna Karina. The odd thing is that for what ever reason these are the relative few I kept. Most were given away.
Now I read mainly on my Kindle and so the library is really hard to grasp :)
OK Children. Put on your thinking caps (do they still have thinking caps?) and prepare to absorb the truth. Open your minds to let the truth set you free.
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE ROLLING STONES. All. The Beatles were pop music pretenders-the Stones cut right to your heart. The Beatles were cute with their hair and neckties, the Stones were gritty and real. The Beatles were mods, the Stones Rockers. Google it, I don't have all day.
This Band is where your music has it's roots. I don't care the genre or the year, the Rolling Stones set the table for 50 years of Rock and Roll.
Sympathy for the Devil is my personal favorite. If somebody has a funeral for me (I don't give a shit, I'll be dead) I have one request. Play Sympathy for the Devil. I'm not even slightly joking.
You Tube Link
Did the Rolling Stones have influences? You better believe it. Reggae, Country, Classical, Pop, Jazz. But most of all it was the blues.
I love the blues, straight and simple. Old blues, New blues, Black Blues, White blues, Delta Blues, Chicago Blues, California Blues.
Currently I am listening to a lot of female blues singers. Etta James is just the Queen unless Ella Fitzgerald is singing the blues. Koko Taylor will knock your socks off. But there is a new crew. Susan Tedeschi, Samantha Fish, Mavis Staples (nothing really new about her) but I think this young woman has it. IT.
Beth Hart. Here with Joe Bonamassa, the best blues guitarist since Stevie Ray and Albert Collins (who taught a young Jimi Hendricks a thing or two) died. If this doesn't move you you better check your pulse. You might be dead. An Etta James cover.

See, this is what I had in mind with this topic!
Passion.
I was pretty sure this topic would bring out a lot of emotion and passion in people because that's what music does. You're a perfect example of this and this comment confirms that!
As I said in another comment I never really got into the Rolling Stones, and actually even less so the Beatles. That doesn't mean I don't respect the influence they had on music. I agree with you too, the Stones had far more influence.
This is a great response Tom, thanks for taking the time and for the passion and vigour with which you wrote it. ✅
Lastly...My favourite Rolling Stones song...Paint it black 1966.
!ENGAGE 25
Thanks man. Seriously. Once in a while it's really nice to just 'let it rip'.
I'm with you on Paint it Black. It was my favorite until the minute I heard sympathy. I can't tell you how far over the edge of the cliff Paint It Black was in real time. It was like the Martians had just landed. The whole music industry changed.
Do you feel you comprehended the enormity of it back then or was that a later epiphany?
Immediately. It was new and right at the same time. A basic fuck you and your horse song.
Yeah, I figured this would be the answer. It must have felt uplifting, freeing and exciting huh?
God I hate to answer a Rolling Stones question with a Who answer but it was on the magnitude of "I just want to die before I get old." The possibilities were limitless!
I still want to die before I get old.

tokens.I am glad you shared her again with us, she has that voice, that takes you way back in time, my Father loved the sound of her voice, I grew to like it, my Mother liked country music and Hoyt Axton, I think her favorite song was Yellow Rose of Texas, so I guess that is one of the reasons I kind of like the country blues sound, Everyone in our house loved Johnny Cash.
Wow, yes. I hadn't thought of it. She has an old voice. That's a good analogy.
My Mother liked lots of music (she got surprisingly into folk music in the late 50s and early 60s) but to my father there were only two kinds of music. Country and Western :)
So I really have a pretty good grounding in all three of those styles, too. I have said that Wille and Waylon played some blues with 'My Heroes have Always been Cowboys" and "Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys." Wrote about that once upon a time.
It is funny growing up we think our parents music is so lame, then later we get it, and we did not even know we got it while we were growing and listening to our own music.
What about when the Stones were still trying to out-Beatle the Beatles? Their Satanic Majesties Request was something but Exile on Main Street is where the Stones really caught me. Sympathy has always been my favorite Stones song, the bad rap it got from Altamont didn't hurt anything either (even thought it was undeserved).
In Louisville the Kentucky Derby is THE event of the year, having worked at the track for several of them and been around the madness for many more I've developed something of a tradition for the day. This consists of reading "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved" by Hunter S Thompson while listening to Dead Flowers repeatedly, always puts me right for dealing with the day. I almost prefer this cover of it to the original though
Wow. That's a serious preparation for the Derby. I may not want to know what you do for the Dumbarton Oaks :)
I'm listening for the second time trying to decide whether it's a cover or a version due to Keith Richards playing. 😂 I've read (unsourced) that Dead Flowers is the most covered song ever.
Hunter S Thompson and Dead Flowers. I like it.
Yeah, I never could decide whether that counted as a cover. Thompson was from Louisville so it just seemed doubly fitting. That is one of my favorite HST quotes!
I didn't know that HST was from Louisville. That is entirely fitting :)
Did you know he bought a Vincent to ride for Fear and Loathing? For that alone he shall forever be one of my heroes. It was the fastest production MC in the world in the early 50s and, well, The HAs Harleys weren't. :) If I hit the lottery I'm buying a Vincent. No question.
We haven't had many ballads here, I offer this: Richard Thompson 1952 Vincent Black Lightning
I may have read that, or be getting it mixed up with when he was running with the Angels. I love that song, although I hadn't heard that version until recently. I spent a lot of time in dive bars listening to music, one of my friend's band used to cover that about every night they played.
Del McCourey (from sorta your part of the world) does a blue grass version that is pretty good.
I'm just stone cold sure that I'd love a place where the band covers that song.
I think that Sympathy is probably tied with Paint it Black for my favorite Stones songs. I don't know a hell of a lot of them but my friends growing up would listen to them religiously, even though we were a few decades later on the age group. They have some great songs indeed and I was lucky enough to see them as my first unofficial live concert. They came to Fenway in Boston and we couldn't afford the ticket price for the billion dollar band so we hung outside the stadium, drank beer in black bags and jammed out. It was really a memorable time and a lot of fun.
Fun fact, the only other concert I've been to is Blues Traveler, which was my first and only official concert that I got tickets to lol
Here's a fun track from a bit later in the years of the rock genre but I still like it. Something about the song has always made me love it, not just because it's Joe Walsh.
Joe Walsh - Life's Been Good
That's such a great story about the Stones in Boston. I've seen the Stones 3 times. Last time was the Steel Wheels tour. I think 1980. Greg Kihn and Stevie Wonder opened that show in Seattle, and they played Sympathy. It was only the second time since Altamont. Best $50 I've spent in my life...
I love Joe Walsh and his work with the Eagles and all his solo work. LOVE.
But my fav is from the 60s. Funk 49 from the James Gang.
Man, the Rolling Stones is just a great present to wake up on a Sunday morning.
Reviewing all the videos, I have the feeling music has changed quite a bit during the past decades but great music will remain forever.
I love Rolling Stones's first albums.
Me too! They were edge to edge good music. The Stones got into a habit of 2 or 3 great cuts and the rest mediocre after a time. Those first ones just exploded with music.
Wow!, what a great topic for this week. I can't wait to discover all the community favorite songs. I have the feeling this week we are gonna have even more comments!
It is kind of hard for me as most of my favorite songs are in Spanish or Catalan, my mother languages, but there are also many in English, so I will share one of those.
And it has to be The Boss
I remember he came to town when I was 18. He played at FCB stadium. I went with my friends and got early enough to be able to get in the fist lines. It was amazing.
You should post one of your favorite Catalan songs for us to hear. I liked Bruce's Nebraska album, he has a lot of albums, but Nebraska was the first that kind of sort of focused mostly on his voice, and lyrics at least for my ears.
I don't think I have ever heard a Catalan song. I have heard Dutch songs, Japanese songs, some German ones, but no Catalan as far as I know.
Edit:
I should have read farther down, thank you for posting the songs. I liked that first one sometimes understanding the words is not so important, the music and the voice quality set the mood, It was nice of you to provide a translation.
He had a raw voice but one that seemed perfectly suited to reaching down within someone, invoking feelings, or to passing the message along to the listener with passion and emotion. Who could ever forget The Boss. It's a great choice for the topic, and I'm glad someone threw a classic Springsteen track into the mix. Nice work.
Also, I urge you to put a Catalan or Spanish song in here too - We're here to celebrate music from around the world, hive's groove, and because we're from around the world it makes sense that the music will be too. Feel free o do so @santigs.

tokens. What are your favorite songs in Spanish?
Hard question, there are tons of bands I like, but I will share one song with you from Coque Malla.
Wow. I like that, and no doubt the audience did too. I have just exactly enough Spanish to get good and confused so I just listened to the music. It was wonderful.
It is Catalan, that is the reason it probably confused you 😂
Happy to hear you liked The Boss and this one.
Great choices. Of course the boss, but I really liked the other, too. And loved the audience standing during the performance. Really cool.
hahahahahaha I'm laughing very hard with this message, i enjoyed it too, didn't know this band.
I loved it! Where are they from? I´m guessing Spain.
Yes, they are Spaniards
ok... I just learned how to say ¨españoles ¨ in english hahahahah i would have said it like ¨spanish people¨ or something without searching too much.
I learned that loooong ago, when I was an exchange student in Colorado. :)
That was pretty dang good, I liked it, I did recognize one phrase, (me casa), but that did not matter, the tune and speed, and music and the audience all made it a very pleasant listen.
Also Tanca els ulls - Close your eyes, from Txarango was simply fantastic.
Glad you liked it!
I did, and it was very nice to hear several other songs in for me foreign languages. it is not something that ever came up when i would listen to music on youtube, they just never offered foreign language songs as a recommendation. So it was good to hear and quite pleasing.
He has such a distinctive voice. I like it when you know who is singing, whereas often these days, they all tend to sound the same - probably all the autotune.
Maybe my favorite Boss track. That or Born to Run because of motorcycles :) This is just pure Springsteen.
Thank you. I really do appreciate it.
Born to run...Yep, I'm with you there, although I like Born in the USA also. Do you listen to any Steve Earle? He's a little Springsteenesque. I think you either have, or do...I've got an Steve Earle playlist. Not an every week player, but now and then I throw it on.
I love Steve Earle. My last GF (who was psychotic it turns out) turned me on to Steve Earle and I liked him alot. Sometimes today when I listen to Steve Earle I get a bad taste in my mouth that has nothing to do with Mr. Earle :)
I figured you would...At least that psychotic ex had one benefit huh? Put you into Steve Earle...Hopefully your flashbacks aren't too bad though.
That was, quite literally, the wildest situation I've ever been involved in. If I may be frank (I always am) the woman would fight or fuck at the drop of a hat. Even if she dropped it.
Her musical tastes were exquisite. Steve Earle was only one of them. She was a seriously good guitar player and quite a good singer. A just plain lot of nights I went to sleep to the sound of her guitar. With apology to Mr. Dickens "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times."
Far as I know she's doing time. The next guy after me died in her arms, and the prosecutor thought it wasn't entirely accidental. She inherited his estate...
Seems like you dodged a bullet...I didn't see the last paragraph coming; A perfectly gentle way of saying it how it is.
Wow! The song is awesome I really like the way it started
Here’s one of my favourite Van Haven tunes. For some reason can’t seem to get it out of my head since Eddie passed. Have a listen and enjoy!
Yep, I love this song too! I was a big fan of Sammy Hagar as the lead singer but who could go past some David Lee Roth on the mic, old-school VH!
I'm glad to see a fellow Van Halen fan here posting another of their tracks. I was devastated when I heard Eddie had died this week...I mean, it's tragic when people do of cancer and all, but listening to this band was a huge part of my life and I got sort of sad to hear he'd gone.
A great track, thanks for sharing!
!ENGAGE 25
Indeed, probably my favourite guitar player of all time.

tokens.yup this album and the first album are my 2 favourite Van Halen albums by far. Nice choice.
There's a good track, but I'm a Sammy Hagar sort of guy. I was really happy when he joined the band (I was a big fan of the Red Rocker before he joined) and sad to see him go.
Eddie said at the time "I have two notebooks full of music that is just too melodic for David". :)
I Can't drive 55 is one of my favourite songs, so I'm on board with Sammy too!
I'm telling you! That's got to be my favorite Hagar song.
It's an amazing song and one of my all time favs. Gotta listen to it loud though!
Infidels! I always liked David better than Sammy, although I don't dislike the stuff with Hagar it just ain't quite the same. I may just be a bit contrary, I'm also one of those that thinks Fleetwood Mac went to hell in a handbasket when Peter Green left.
I've been accused of worse.
I agree with you on Fleetwood Mac. Utterly.
Galen perfect WE topic prompt and a cool tribute to EVH too man. I decided to click play on JUMP whilst typing this comment to get me in just the right vibe and I gotta tell you the opening strains of that rock classic have never aged, not one iota! It's one of those tracks that takes you back there instantly.
I can concur with you Brother, I looked funny too, but in the best possible way when I think back to the 80's... I regret none of it!!!
Dreams too, which has that racing along the highway top down on a hot summer day vibe, Listening to these top tunes gives me that unmistakable feeling down the spine, I can't explain it BUT if ya know it, ya know it, I'm fairly certain you will.
My first job was in the department that sold the music in a big chain in the UK (WH.Smith) I spent all of my wages on a treasure trove of tracks both vinyl and those swish new audio cassettes too, (I presume you've heard about them, they're the latest thing haha) Music quite literally was my life then and plays a pretty massive part now. Sometimes people tell me they are more in to movies and not really in to music I just don't get it!!!
I'm sure you know that I was about to choose something with a lil comedy value (I'm such a bloody cliche!) but your choice made me quite nostalgic and prodded my emotions so now I'm torn... Just one thing for it...
I LOVE Professor Elemental & I'm British is awesomely bloody fantastic and hugely funny. This track always cheers me up if I need a good laugh.
HOWEVER... My lifelong guilty pleasure, musicwise is Rick Astley, cheesy though it may sound. Most people only know him for Never gonna give you up and Rickrolling so I felt it my duty to give the big guy a little exposure here. M'Lady and I have seen him live several times and missed out twice due to Covid pushing the dates back twice already this year. I like him so much because he always had an impeccable, soulful voice and was always a little embarrassed by the whole fame thing and is still humble, warm and friendly today. I like that a lot!
His voice is still damn amazing too!
This track 'TRY' really helped me through a tricky spell a while back, strange though it may sound so it is my choice for one of his to share here.
So sorry about the mega comment again Galen! I'm an annoying bloody pom, I know it! One lyric in I'm British that resonated with me was "I use ten words when two would do honestly"
Great WE idea my friend, have an awesome bit in-between weekends mate :)
Only a brit could come up with that first one mate, but it's the British humour that many around the world love, it's unique. Good choice.
Rick Astley...Gawd, I remember him dancing in that video of never gonna give you up...Classic 80's. I had a look at this one you dropped here, a listen too. The chap has a good voice for sure and let's face it, the 80's weren't kind to any of us. Is it just me, but does he look a lot like Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit though?
Nice work Steven, thanks for dropping by!

OMG Bilbo Astley, how did I not notice this before?
No, thank you Galen, the WE initiative is a joy I have missed immensely, especially the peoplezzz I look forward to seeing each week for a nonsensical laugh and guaranteed I always meet one or two new users who are well worth a follow, you never know where the next cool friend is gonna come from on the blockchain.
Haha, Bilbo Astley 🤣
Good to have you back mate.

nice selections.

My friend I love it when people ask the really BIG questions that demonstrate beautifully that I am not the 'only one'. These are the kind of things that keep me up at night!!!
Good to see you ShadowDude, I hope you and yours are doing fabulously well and that your weekend has been great but not as great as the week to follow. :)
It was a fun couple of comment surf days Friday and Saturday, I will finish the post up with one more comment surf this evening to close the musical rally weekend out.
I have missed the WE a lot over the past month, it was the one staple activity of the week that I never used to miss and it always provides a few laughs along the way.

Rick Astley isn't on my playlist, but I have to tell you that I have more than a few that would seem weird in this imposing list. Songs (and artists) I like simply because I like them, not for any other apparent reason.
Sorta like a toasted cheese sandwich on a fall afternoon. Just the right thing.
Huge hello !!!!!! My favorite Friday and weekend with your initiative !!! Good topic today! I could imagine hundreds of my favorite clips, but I chose one. This is ABBA and their song "Happy New Year". I have been listening to it since childhood. But it was written before I was born. I really like the words in the song:
Every New Year this song sounds in our house. And so it becomes warm in the heart. And some kind of pleasant warm nostalgia. How many years have passed, and this song is personally the coolest hit for me.
Ah yes, a band from my youth...ABBA.
This song seems very relevant to 2020 as it's been such a terrible year for many. Maybe all we need to do is play this song as loud as possible in our homes around midnight on the 31st December and 2021 will be forced to be a happy new year!
Good choice, taking it old-school, and with such a prolific band and relevant song! Nice work.
!ENGAGE 25
Thank you!)) This year was really not easy. We will definitely listen to this song this New Year!)))

tokens.Oh, Abba, you could hear them all over when I was a kid. Most of their songs became hits. A group that was a huge success. I also liked their Chiquitita song. I remember they even played some of their songs in Spanish
Cool!)) I have not heard their songs in Spanish, but I will definitely find and listen!))
Here's Chiquitita version.
That was pretty cool. Not many bands can take their music and translate and sing it themselves in several languages. I wonder how many other bands can sing take there songs and translate or re-lyric them in other languages. I know Fernando was done in a few languages some with different lyrics. A very talented band.
Abba. For about 10 years everything they touched turned to gold. It was pretty stylish for the Rock and Rollers to just hate them, but I liked them.
Thanks for a great pick!
I hope "Queen" is one of your favorites. Below is my favorite Freddie Mercury song. I cannot relate myself to any particular direction in music. I can love jazz, saxophone, classical music and chanson. It is important for me that the song gives goosebumps.
Queen is right up near the top of the list no doubt. This is a terrific video that just moves me.
I watched to the end and saw the memorial. He's been gone near 30 years. How can that be?
Sin duda alguna Reina es lo máximo
definitely!)))
Queen are one of history's great artists! Freddy's voice...Priceless!
Once Freddie Mercury said: “I don’t want to become some kind of star, I will become a legend!".
And he became this legend.
He certainly did. Have you seen the recent movie made about Queen? I've seen it a few times as it was such a great movie and tribute.
Oh no! unfortunately did not look. But I will definitely look. I didn't even know about the movie.
I do like ABBA lots and lots of very cool music and songs, My favorite from them was Fernando, I just love the opening lines
Can you hear the drums Fernando
I remember long ago another starry night like this
In the firelight Fernando
Their music has a way of taking you back down memory lane when you hear them out of nowhere.
Like cancer, Mental Illness is something a lot of people are faced with and have to manage day in and day out. It has the power to alter peoples lives and tear a family apart. Mental Illness can be tragic for those close to the person with the disease. I've known, worked with, work around and have lived with people suffering from this terrible illness. It really does deserve some attention.
For that reason, I chose the song below by Larkin Poe, "Mad As A Hatter". Not only is it catch and well delivered, it has a message behind it. It hits close to home for these two girls, when a family member suffers from Dementia. It's scary, because they have a good chance of inheriting the same Disease.
I won't ramble about it here, but be patient, forgiving, and do a little research on mental illness before passing judgements about the disease. Knowledge is power!
Enjoy the song.. It really is quite catchy and the backdrop is neat too. I had the chance to see them live several years ago, but something else came up and I was unable too. Life! Always gets in my way :-/
This is a pretty good track, and a good message too.
My father passed away two months ago - He had dementia and didn't know who I was. It's a pretty tragic illness and hard on those around one who suffers from it. Thanks for dropping this song. Nice voices!

Another fantastic and creative topic for the weekend. Though I'm not a good music genre and I don't even sing well 😃, there are some fancy english songs on my lists. Like many people, my musical taste like about love, romance and sad story, lol 😆
I'm not really anyone here has the same favourite song with me: My Heart Will Go On and Who is still listening to this song this year ?
Back to many years ago when I first watched the movie " Titannic" and I wasn't old enough to understand the story in the movie. However, years later and until now I still keep watching the movie and love the song because of the meaning of the love story. "Jack Died For Rose, Rose Lived For Jack"- It's really touch my heart everytime I watch Titanic or listen to the song.
Yeah, that's a popular song for many. Celine Dion sang it well and it added some musical and emotional punch to the movie huh?
Not a bad choice.
!ENGAGE 25
Thanks Galen, I don't have many English songs on my list. I was thinking of "Hello" - Adele and "Perfect" Ed Sheeraan 😃 but ended up with My Heat Will Go On.
It's a good choice but you know, it would have been ok to use a song from Vietnam too. 🙂
Oh Really? I though only English songs are allowed. Oh yay, that's great open to many languge so We can promote our country music. Okie, I take note for next time 🙂
Music is music. I never specified English...Just music.
Thanks Gelen. That's great 👍 And yeah you maybe like Vietnamese music in the future 🤪 Who knows? 😊

A non-english song I would post is a very trending rap song : Big Citi Boi ( Cool title, right -Boy here means boy 🤣) by Binz ( a popular Vietnamese Rapper)Hey @bashadow thanks for you engagement on my comment here. Yea you are right music is music and transcend language. I listened to Chinese and Korean songs sometimes even I don't under but my feelings say it's nice.
RAP used to be underestimated in my country. However, many rapper in underground world here never give up and build it passionately. The result is paid off, Rap is becoming popular here and all ages like watching and listening.
I hope you will like this song
Cheers, and have a fantastic week ahead 😍
When I was a teen, I had this extremely chaotic relationship with a girlfriend. When it was over, I often wondered what I could have done better, or just different, to stay with her. Although I've come to terms with it, this song describes that obsessive feeling of wanting to do it over and over until we get it right. It gets it all downright perfectly.
Great song and I can see how it meant something to you in the situation you found yourself in. It's emotive and quite powerful, much like Evanescence tracks which I like a lot. I think there's music for every occasion and even music we may not like can mean something when attached to a particular event or memory.
Great choice here, and thanks for joining in this week.

Touching, I love this song because it doesn't talk about a perfect world but it does talk about a world relieved of many problems, where people can be in peace, where there are no borders, where there are no interests, all working to be a great world, where there is no need and we can all be happy.
It is not difficult to dream, said John, "a brotherhood of man".
It also has a rhythm to listen to, I know that many versions have been released, with many voices in other rhythms that make it a little more fun to listen to, but here I will leave the original one.
The version I like best!
You've chosen a classic, and probably one of the most-played songs in modern history. If only it was simple as playing this track and everyone heeding, and carrying out, the words in the lyrics. I'd sat this would be the favourite track, or one that moves, many people in the world. A great choice indeed.
I hope you have a great weekend, and thanks for joining in once more.

At first I would put a Latin track, but I know that many would not understand the lyrics, so I decided on one of my favorite tracks in English, and it's a good thing that many liked my choice.

Probably the most "touching" song from him. It is already an anthem.
I totally agree, translated into many languages and in many versions.
I love this kind of songs!! Dido is also a supporter of this kind of iniciatives, i leave you this link to a song she has with Youssou N'Dour that i think you might like.
Excellent song, good for studying and concentrating.
I love the song, I really do. When I get my chance down below I'm going to blaspheme the Beatles pretty badly. Just a warning of sorts :)
That's literally communism. Sadly, it's simply not viable for our species.
Thank you for such an impeccable dissertation of state ideologies or development systems, I think it was a great publication (it deserved to be voted on better).
This song does talk about a dream or as you say about a Utopia, but to achieve these things it needs, requires a deep and honest effort from each person accompanied by some sacrifice. But how much would it be worth taking away evils and needs from the world?
Between being born with the luck factor and a system where meritocracy is almost non-existent or dreaming that at some point there will be no hunger and we can live in peace, I prefer that journey where the species makes a deep and honest effort. You know this because almost everything I wrote is based on the idea you put forward in your publication.
To conclude, it's just music and rhythm. Beautiful lyrics and moving melody. Wishing for a world where everyone is happy has nothing to do with regime types it's the political system. Perhaps if with a little more human conscience and less selfishness.
Like you said, you know I'm right there with you. I long for this as well.
Seems like I will have some tunes to listen to this weekend. So many music memories, and so much music in a life. I don't remember when I first heard Joey by Concrete Blonde, but it was that song that lead me to their other music, and they do have quite a bit of different music.
Concrete Blonde - Joey (Official Video)
I really liked the entire Bloodletting Album. So much variety, heart and soul in the Album. "Tomorrow, Wendy" is also on the Album and another of my all time favorite songs.
Second offering, I used to love to take a shower, then sit and relax in a nice bubble bath to just soak in the essence of the day and to meditate on nothing. I would have all kinds of bath oil beads and scents, the music and the Album I would listen to while soaking was Mazzy Star So Tonight That I Might See. The first song that grabbed me and refused to let my mind go was Fade into You, I had to have the Album, I was lucky that our one store that had a fairly large selection of music, (not so much now), had the Album.
Into Dust
Into Dust has to be one of the most haunting songs I have ever heard.
Superb choice, and yes I think we'll have some music to investigate this weekend!
I'll admit I don't know many Concrete Blonde tracks and I'll be certainly checking them out; I've se Sunday aside for that task and there's certainly many I have on the list from this post. Joey was about the only one I know. That Mazzy Star track is also quite haunting as you say and I'll listen to some more of theirs too.
Thanks for joining in this week. :)

tokens. Not at all familiar with your two bands but I do like the choices. I like some of the ways the female voice makes songs come out. If there was a male singing the songs, I could be biased from listening to it but I think they just wouldn't sound the same. Thinking about that for a minute, I want to find covers of popular songs by women, wonder how that will turn out lol
That song is indeed haunting and got some eerie vibes to it but I do like it, sounds cool!
On the topic of women singers, here's a cool track I love to listen to. It's mellow, got a great female vocalist and has some pretty deep lyrics, I think.
Yeah Yeah Yeah's - Maps
Cool entries this week!
Pretty nice voice on her, I do seem to enjoy the female voice over the male, but then again I am a guy, there are a lot of fine male singers, but it seems lately that I find more variety in the female voice, perhaps I just got to used to the male leads, but I don't think I have heard a truely unique male voice sing the days of FYC, (
Fine Young Cannibals) thats a link to She drives me Crazy Song.
I’ll have to check that song out later thanks!
Yeah I’ve found a couple of great female voices, not sure how many of them are still making music but it’s still some good tracks to listen to. For male voices, the singer of Muse seems to have a good one, I’ll add my favorite Muse song here later!
I'm sure we can't step away like nothing happens when we find out that one of those whom we've used to listen to his music passes away, especially if we've grown up with their music. I personally felt broken for a while when I found that Chester Bennington committed a suicide because his music was closer to me than my own family or any friends at that time..
Here's my favourite one from them which means more than words can say.
I like this song...I actually rather like the version that features Jay-Z also, but the original is more my style. I agree with my brother, great teen-angst anthem.
I assume Chester Bennington was in the group? I didn't know he died, let along took his own life. I wonder why - It's a rather final solution I guess.
Thanks for sharing this one. A great track, powerful and quite clearly means a lot to you. I'm pleased you shared it.
!ENGAGE 25
Indeed. And I feel pretty honoured that I got to grow up with his music.
Yeah, he was part of the Linkin Park band, but he was suffering a lot from depressions and after he committed the suicide back in 20th July 2017 I paid more attention to the hidden messages from his songs and made me feel really bad that this man was screaming his pain and suffering through his songs for so long and nobody really noticed that, but only when it was too late..
There's so many in the same situation I think, not all famous, but some. Look at Anthony Bourdain for instance.
Last October two of my friends, husband and wife, blew their heads off together...They were depressed, had money issues. I've lost many military mates to PTSD in the same way...It always makes me angry with them that they didn't aske for help. Anyway, we deal with it and hope that we are more able to reach out should it be us in that situation. As I said, suicide is a very final option, there's no coming back from it.
I'm sad to hear that and yeah, it's definitely a huge problem more people are confronting with, and it's way more painful when you see some you knew doing it instead of asking for some help and letting you be there for them when needed. It personally gives me a strange mood making me feel like more or less I contributed to their decision, and it's hard to live with such pressure on your shoulders. That's why I try with each passing day to work more on myself and be a better version of myself..
This is smart...being the best version of ourselves, as often as possible, is all a person can ask of themselves I think.
Thank you :)
Definitely a theme song of the time for teen angst.
For sure!

I'm not really into blues but I do enjoy it when I get to hear this genre. But yeah, music is one of the things that make us different :)
Music also makes us the same! Funny how that works.
Haha, yeah, that's right!
Amazing person and artist. I love his songs too. Funny, it took me a long time to realize how some of them described my life. I guess I just didn't see it that way back then. "In the end" subtitles family time, but certainly not just mine.
Oh yeah! We are so used to love the songs before we even understand them.
I liked that kind of reminded me of Seattle days long ago.
BTW, this should have been the theme song for Terminator 2, instead of You could be mine.
Fucking love that track! This was a great album too...I loved Poundcake, Right now, Top of the World...That's some good shit! Some are critical of Sammy Hagar but I really liked him.

Haha, great title!
What can I say that has not already been said in the song.
I know, Huh? Not much left to add.
I am going to add two, with both being for the same reason, these are the songs I sing to Smallsteps when I put her to bed and have done from the day we brought her home, four years ago. I thought she would get sick of them, but she always chooses one or the other each night.
Firstly, Summertime (written by George Gershwin - Ella Fitzgerald version is the well known one I think)
It is just a bloody excellent song with a lot of soul.
Next, Make you feel my love (a Bob Dylan song, people probably know it more from Adele singing it). Again, a great song and perfect for bedtime.
I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling down the avenue
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love
The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing like me yet
We had the opportunity to see Adele live in concert in Stockholm while Momone was pregnant, our last trip away together. Adele is a fantastic singer and was really personal with the audience, which made it a brilliant experience.
A couple of good choices here, and I like why you've chosen them. I was wondering if you'd drop in actually as I know small likes to sing and figured you might drop one of her favourites.
I think Adele's a pretty good singer, would have been a good concert, we would have gone with you, but you know, we live a bazillion kilometres away. She's gone quiet now though, a shame.
!ENGAGE 25
She might drop in later with one - perhaps :)
I think Adele is likely working on a new album, considering she has get herself into "tour shape" apparently.
Whoa that's a huge difference! I think she looks good on the right but it just doesn't feel right to see her like that. I hope she wasn't pressured into losing weight to do this music stuff.
I'm on the same withered and information-less vine that you 3 are on with this one, I had no idea! I remembered Adele's look from years ago but never knew she lost a ton of weight. Crazy stuff!
The withered vine is a popular place it seems. All the cool people are on it.
I am not sure if pressured or not, but I just hope her next album isn't dance music... :D
What the fuck? That's her on the left and the right? She was always pretty but wow, what a transformation. I just showed Faith and she already knew about this transformation...I'm always the last to know. Lol.
I wouldn't have known if H hadn't shown me. =)
Lol...T-dog and G-dog = clueless.
Or next to last. Just sayin'
Lol...Sounds like you're listening to the same grapevine as me and that fucker is giving us nothin'
My grapevine is pretty withered up from lack of rain :)
That's awesome, I love the meaning behind those songs! It's funny, our son loves his songs before bed but do you know what some of his all-time favorites are?
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Jingle Bells
I think we have a Christmas fan in the making here lol I'm just glad the songs are easy to sing!
lol - I think it is funny how kids do not care what time of year it is - Christmas songs are always suitable :D
Ella's voice so strong and powerful, it is completely understandable why she was called the first lady of song. Talk about staying star power, how many singers are still heard from her days, perhaps some remember Duke Ellington and a few others but when I think of jazz she is the first thought.
That Adele has a fine voice easy to listen to and pretty damn soulful in her own right.
!ENGAGE 25
Don't even hear from Ellington on this side of the world much - but at least in Finland, many don't like jazz.
Adele has a lovely voice and when she talks, she kills it with her Strong accent :) She seems like a pretty down to earth person though.
ENGAGE
tokens.Oh, Lord. Now we're we are talking. Ella Fitzgerald is just the best female voice ever. Period. In the 70s I bought a 'digital press' out of Japan with Ella fronting Benny Goodman. Woman can sing the 'do wop a doos' as well as anybody ever. Add her to Gershwin and it's magic. Pure magic.
Adele has that pure honey voice that you just have to listen to. Nice picks.
And gives me permission to double dip for my entry :)
I like most of Adele's songs. Her voice is just incredible.
I love Adelle. She is one of those artists one can listen to any time and like every single song they produce. And then they have these super songs that move every fiber of your being and can make you cry like a baby (Million Years Ago, for instance).
Her voice is absolutely memorable, versatile, subtle and powerful whenever she wants to make it so. I like that she releases an album and then hides. That's the best thing any artist can do these days.
My brother and his wife saw Adele perform in person - Said it was wondrous.
One of my good buddies bought two tickets for Adele in Phoenix. The show was ppd and by the time she came back around the GF he'd planned on taking was long gone. He's a wildland Firecaptain and he took the secretary from his office because she covers his ass so often. Rented a Limo for the 350 mile round trip. That girl was just over the moon and he has his ass covered for the rest of his days. Everybody won.
He seems like a nice chap and I'm sure the lady he took had a nice time. I've not seen Adele perform but if she came here we'd go for sure.
He cuts a huge swath in the BLM in Yuma. He's as old as me and runs a crew of prison Hot Shots. He's also a Captain and just bigger than life. The poor girl was just beside herself.
While I love a lot of different tracks and bands, I can't think of too many that move me emotionally at all. This is one though that does hit me a bit, I always get a sad melancholy feeling listening to it. Especially in the first section. Which is probably why this is the only track from this band I actually listen to every now and then.
This is a little bit New for me to consider seriously, but I do like it.
I can see that this space will be just like falling down the rabbit hole that is You Tube for me. Thanks for a great track in the weekend engagement.
Hmm, this video didn't work for me. Can you edit the post with the name of the band and track so I can look it up?
!ENGAGE 25
If not, look up I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab for Cutie
Ah yeah, that worked. It's a nice song...What's the genre, folk? I'll have to check out some more by this artist I think. It's a nice song/lyrics.
They're actually an alt/rock band, they just have a few tracks that are in this kind of style. You'd probably still like them though.
I'll be checking them out for sure, Sunday's the day...I think I'll have a few new options to look at by then.
ENGAGE
tokens.I like that, I actually enjoyed the lyrics, I know the theme is kind of dark, but still it does grab and pull you in. A nice rhythm and music, I liked it enough I had to go on a hunt for "Death Cab for Cutie" just to hear more tomorrow.
!ENGAGE 25
Good god, this has made me feel old. VH is (was) the same age as me. I think I've worn a bit better :) but hay I've not had a Rock Star lifestyle. One that springs to mind is Lindisfarne Fog On the Tyne. It was the very first live concert I ever went to when I was at Marine college in Southampton in 72. A bunch of us piled into a car and went to see them in Reading. Then in 1975, I did my final Year in SouthShields near Newcastle upon Tyne and I went to see them again this time at the Newcastle City Hall. The atmosphere was amazing and I got mugged on the way back to Shields. Great music and a real night to remember.
I think music has a way of making us feel old as remembering something we loved, and probably still love from way back when will always make us think of the elapsed time as well.
I like live bands and concerts and a lot of the time I prefer the sound as it's not as clinical as the studio-recorded and enhanced music.

tokens. One of tye most influential musicians on me has been the guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani. I started listening to him as a teenager and even took the time to transcribe his guitar licks onto my bass while in college. He's been a guitar teacher for many famous guitarists most notably Kirk Hammett from Metallica and Steve Vai.
This song comes from what to me is his most creative album Engines of Creation.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Mqmv0F-FU4w
Satriani. Jimi Hendrix. Stevie Ray Vaughn. Albert Collins. For me that's gotta be the top four and I don't care who you pick I'll argue because I can't figure it out myself who is the best.
That's serious right there. Thank you !
No arguments here Tom. Spot on. There's some good second tier options but these four are legit.
His music, Always with me, Always with you is my alarm music every morning. 🙂
I remember fondly covering that song when i was at Berklee. I was lucky enough to be put in a great ensemble and paired with a pretty good guitarist
So awesome...I love that track. Makes me feel good, uplifted.
I always lived Day At The Beach and Regina's Blue Sky Happiness. Of course being a bass player i decided to play Day At The Beach using two hand tapping and then going into a double thumb slap version of it.
Slap dat bass.
I don't know why, but I really like saying that.
Now that is music that can wake you up, take you where you need to go and travel there at light speed. What a powerful song.
He also has a pretty fun song on one of his older albums called at the speed of light. You and satch obviously think alike!
I saw you mention your wife saying she appreciates "real instruments" since you've been tributing Van Halen all week--tough not to. You and I agreed we have a favorite lead though I wouldn't contest anyone's opinion on the subject, Diamond Dave is great!
Good engagement topic this week, sir.
I would've been either 4 or 5 years old, kindergarten so 'about' 1980. I got two records for Christmas that year. One was Michael Jackson's Thriller and the other featured the following song (aI have a feeling you've heard it). Tell Faith this is the first real instruments I heard.
Hasn't Sammy Hagar got a unique voice, and pretty versatile too. If you've heard any of the VH ballads, slower songs, which I'm sure you have, you'll know what I mean. I'm glad he came to VH as he added a grittyness to the band that I liked, less showmanship which was Roth's trip. Of course, both have their place. Thanks for sharing this one, I remember it well, although I was 12 in 1982 when this album was released and it wasn't until a few years later that I discovered Hager when he started fronting VH.
Ah, it must've been first grade then, not kindergarten. I lived at that house for two years. Hey Man, how cool of a mother did I have, though? That's how cool she was, got me those records for Christmas that year. I said 4 or 5, guess The Luckiest Guy I Know would'v been 6. Thanks for the correction.
The Red Rocker at the top of his game! I liked Hagar a lot before he joined VH but really liked him fronting that band.
I'm right there with you @bigtom13, His voice is recognizable miles away and under water, no mistaking that one.
I was and still am a big fan of Van Halen, Dave's energy started a revolution of stage performances, but it was Sammy who got me into them.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend man.
@galenkp I appreciate the reminder to me to post in the comment section.
Eddie Van Halen is one of the rock artists I've listened to also. He had a blues tone to his rock style music. I love guitar players, lol.
I hadn't heard he passed away. R.I.P. Jump and Dreams are Halen's later works I liked.
But Runnin' With the Devil I love this part of the lyrics:
"I live my life like there's no tomorrow
And all I've got I had to steal
At least I don't have to beg or borrow"
Thanks for sharing the music you love.
Yep, good track, Running with the devil. I like that one very much.
Eddie was one of the best guitarists around, even to this day I'd say and he'll be missed by many. Time takes people away however at least with Eddie we'll have his music as a legacy.
What I can share it today is my prayer for his eternal Resting Peace. Condolence to his family and to all his fans.
I think he was also the favorite of my Uncle who also died from throat cancer last 2015.
Thank you @galenkp for sharing about the journey of this man and how you loved him too.
Have a nice day everyone.
Another fantastic guitarist that influenced me due to his stage presence would be Yngwie Malmsteen. Here is his life performance of his song Black Star. Give it about 40 seconds before he starts playing on the electric where the showman ship starts. The ending minute or so of the dong is fantastic. I wish more guitarists played on state like he does.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dmFzT_BtVLk
Holy Cow. Never seen that track. That is just nothing short of spectacular.
Yeah that part at the end where he holds that note for thirty seconds is impressive.
That's crazy, did he play with his nose or something? lol I saw it at like 5 minutes when he was on the electric!
Played with his teeth
That comment made me laugh, when your were a rock star in '84, you did look like that hehe...
I think my 1984 look was...Well, let's just say it wasn't the best, hence no pictures will emerge. Although, wouldn't that make a good topic? Share the worst picture of yourself. I don't think I'd get a lot of entries. Lol.
It wasn't the age of digital, and the photographs are hazy and dull from those times. I know the ones of me are, but I wouldn't post them anyway heh..
Yep, mine too, rarely a good one turns up...Almost never if I'm honest...And yep, I'm with you, wouldn't post them.
Now we're talking! A REAL live MTV video. David Lee Roth looks weird anytime, not just 1984. He had a costume change during the video :)
Van Halen is a good choice, really solid. But the Rolling Stones are with out question the greatest Rock and Roll Band of All Time. Sympathy for the Devil being the best song. Just sayin'
I'm sorry that Eddie left us. Not just musically, but anytime I see the dates and the year of their birth is higher than mine I tend to feel my own mortality. Rest in Peace Eddie. You earned it.
He was a great guitarist and VH were a great rock band...Dead at 65 from cancer...The thing is he was a heavy smoker. Did it contribute? I don't know, but had to play a hand you'd think. A shame though, that he's gone, but it'll happen to all of us unfortunately.
Truth: I never got into the Rolling Stones. (I know, it's bad, but just never really liked them much.)
See my entry :) I'm sad that you were so culturally deprived.
I saw it...By the time I was old enough to really get into music like that it was the early 80's so I guess I missed the hype on the Rolling Stones. It's an age thing sometimes I think. I don't dislike them, just never really got into them much.
Don't hold it against me. 😉
In the 60s it was either or. Beatles or Rolling Stones. It seems the Beatles had a few misguided people following them.
When I say that the Stones set the table it was really in the 60s and 70s, They had settled into a mediocre album and tour once a year by then.
They just completely tore music up for about 15 years. Something new and exciting every 6 months or so.
I don't hold it against you, long as you are capable of learning :)
My best ex told her sister (referring to me) "He's not real bright but he is trainable."
Haha, yeah trainable sums me up. 😉
I just missed the hype is all however it must have been a revolutionary time to be old enough to appreciate their music. These days it's all computers and digitally created music that tops the charts, it's the soulless, bubble gum music preferred by the masses...As if they know what music's all about.
I'm a huge fan of classical music, country, metal, rock and heavy rock. I don't care what it is really, as long as it speaks to me.
I think I would have been a good 20 year old in the 60's. Hmm, maybe that's another topic...What era would you wish to be born in.
Your best Ex, now isn't that a great label lol
Well, I have to be able to identify them in my mind. There is my first ex, my best ex and my last ex. Sigh.
Yeah same here. I appreciate The Rolling Stones and I enjoy some of their songs but I was never really into them the way others in my group of friends were. I was more of a zeppelin guy myself, if we are referring to music from that era.
Now Led Zeppelin is a band I really didn't get into, them and Pink Floyd...I don't think I could name even one song from either. It's funny really, as they were such iconic bands in their day.
Yeah I can't stand Pink Floyd, not entirely sure why. I didn't like their vibe or sound.
I didn't *love *Zeppelin, or any of the other 'classic rock' bands. I would tolerate them and listen to a few songs I liked but my younger years had a lot of rap (not much of the radio garbage), alternative rock and some various other things mixed in. Some of my friends only listened to the classics but I couldn't really get into that too much, for whatever reason.
I always found Floyd a little depressing for some reason, not that it is overly depressive in nature, but it certainly wasn't uplifting music to me.
Beng a bass player I'd say one of my most influential bassists is marcus miller. Hes one of the kings of funk. Here he is playing a david sandborn song called Run For Cover. Its a jazz funk fusion. I remember when i was learning to play bass the main lick of the song was something i always promised myself id someday be able to play. Nowadays i play that lick most times someone asks me to slap something on a bass.
Here he is playing the song live. Make sure to check out his groovy bass solo midway through.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xXYjo5-UaTY
So good. That's the first guy I knew of as a bass as lead player. Just amazingly good. I always like the funk jazz deal too.
I like me a little bass-slappin. I played a bit too, was in a jazz band at school. Was fun. Played bass and trumpet.
Didn't know that about you. Two bass players. You and me! Probably why we get along
Lol, I don't talk about it much. I was ok, not great at it. I mean I could play along and not fuck up too badly but I didn't do any bass solo's.
When it comes to vocalists and pure singing. I have been absolutely astounded by this young man from the ukraine. Any top vocal instructors are stunned by his technical ability, range and the sheer ease he jumps back and forth through them. This song always makes me cry when i listen to it.
S.O.S by Dimash Kudaibergan again another live performance.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=W29zEuZVaxs
I saw this guy on 'Lapland has Talent' or something like it. Just an amazing talent anyplace.
This has been a very rewarding start to a weekend, I love the fact that it is not just all about English Language music. Thank you, and yes he does have a great vocal range.
There's an amazing amount of talent out there right? I think my Sunday is going to be spent investigating all of the links people are dropping and the music behind them. You dropped a good one here mate. Nice work.
This commentary wouldn't be completed with out a van halen song!
Here's eddie and the guys playing Ain't Talking Bout Love live in concert.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b1NmPFgdt6Y
There's another nice choice! Van Halen really put out a nice discography over the years. Serious rock and rollers.
Great track...But then again all of them are. :)
i didtn't know of Eddie Van Halen beacuse i ws born in 2000 but i did google search and that guy was a musician
I like the video from 1984 album bt you know I like today song more
Yes, he was a musician.
