Original Content Decentralized Hivemind Announcement

in OCD5 years ago (edited)

OCD is officially moving all it's curation activities to our Hivemind Community effective immediately. In an effort to get more users to use the Beta site and with Steempeak working on communities from their side we'll be focusing all our initiatives within our community, to know more about everything affected and other communities we'll be supporting, continue reading. :)

What this means for authors

The #oc and #posh initiatives became very popular since we created them and the latter has hopefully brought a lot of traffic onto Steemit and its other front-ends and we are happy how actively users have been sharing their posts, growing their twitter accounts and connecting with other Steemians outside of Steem. Proof of Sharing will not end here, it will just not require the tag anymore and instead be commented with a link under each post which we will be looking out for when curating within our community.

The OCD community has already grown a lot after only a month of announcement. We understand there is some concern about our community being a bit too general with the content as most content on Steem that gets curated is original but with the ability to be able to share your posts within more communities in the near future we believe it will work well.
Apart from this we are also looking forward to curating original posts in other languages in the near future as well, although the bear market was brutal and many active authors and curators writing in their native languages left us there are still many around and growing, same thing with curators in our team. With the potential ability to flair/tag posts in certain languages to make it easier for curators and consumers to pick the posts they want to read it will make it a lot easier to navigate the community and grow the userbase. OCD has a lot of voting power behind it through trails which will allow our curation to scale well combined with a price increase to cover as much original content as possible while they also get shared onto more niche communities depending on the content of the post.

We are very excited about communities finally being here and the value they will bring to Steem by being able to moderate and keep them more clean for both consumers and curators.

Once we restart our curation through anonymous nominations and compilation posts of the best daily curated posts, though, this will contain posts from outside our community as our focus is to find under-rewarded, overlooked and new authors who may not know about our community.

What this means for curators

As mentioned in the past, we love genuine curation on posts and have been big supporters of the EIP and aren't actively attempting to increase our curation returns (current average efficiency in CR is about 38% according to steemworld.org) and are happy that our accounts are being supported by a big amount of delegation from stakeholders in the community who see the value of curation and the effects it has on Steem instead of just focusing on maximizing returns. The @ocdb account will continue it's delayed curation within the community (between 6-24 hours of post age) to allow other curators and consumers to cast their votes before us and be rewarded for being good at curating quality posts. We also welcome other curation projects in doing so as a big problem of trending right now is big accounts not willing to stack their votes on great posts to get them their trending spot as to not reward the voters before them. This is having a negative effect on trending although it has a positive effect on distribution but we believe it is important to showcase the best of the best posts of that day onto trending and not just to hide the burnposts.

When curating in our community you can rest assured that you won't be the last voter on quality posts and the proof of brain function will allow manual curators who adjust the votes they cast depending on the content more than those attempting to bot the front-running up and spread the votes without any curation on every post.

Other communities we will be curating

Since the userbase using communities is still a minority and all of our stake will be moving it's focus onto them, we will also be curating other communities in the meantime. For those who don't feel their posts fit into the OCD community as they are mainly about gaming but not so much original content as writing, think streaming, gameplay videos, screenshots, highlight clips, etc; we'll be curating the Steem Gaming Community as well.

Right now it only has 27 subscribers and only two posts so go ahead and check it out, subscribe and post your gaming content over there! With community cross-posting it will help make the content fit in to both OCD and SGC.

On top of that another community we deem to be important for Steem and it's developers, we'll also be curating with leftover voting power the SteemDevs community. Read more in @netuoso's post about what sort of content can fit in there

Many more in the near future that we deem to have potential of growth and bring value to Steem, if you have some good ideas and need a kickstart, feel free to contact us through our Discord

How you can support the continuous efforts of OCD

If you are a passive stakeholder and want to receive returns by delegating to us from our curation, feel free to delegate your stake to the @ocdb account for daily returns. On our website you can see everyone delegating and their pending returns of the day

Does not look like much right now as the payouts went off 2 hours ago. :)

If you're feeling more generous and want to assist our curation projects without any returns you can delegate to the @ocd account.

Other than that you can support our witness which is partnered up with @steemonboarding (which is currently being funded by the DAO to create more onboarding tools which will also aid us in onboarding more content creators and users in the near future and curate them continuously). You can vote for us on the Steemit Wallet Witness page or through a Steemconnect link directly, we appreciate your support very much!

OCD is one of the oldest and biggest curation projects on Steem and is looking forward to seeing this platform and its users grow. We want to thank everyone that has supported and trusted us throughout these years and especially this brutal bear market and hopefully we're nearing the end of that tunnel now.

We will see you in our community

PS. accidentally posted this prematurely by hitting enter and having tags already placed so forgot to set beneficiaries. Will burn half of the rewards once the post pays out.

I am hoping that later on there will be a user guide available on how communities function as well of course for the SMT integration. I think that it is good that communities section off a little and start building their own enduser experiences.

Sounds good to me =)

Totally unrelated. I am reading this (I had resteemed beforehand because I knew it would be this good :D) but I am reading it now thinking about how many times you said to me and everyone who reads your works literally that Steemit will soon be all about communities. Soon is already here. I will always thank you for insisting I stay through that rough season :)

Soon is longer than most people thought I think - but soon itactually is now.

I will always thank you for insisting I stay through that rough season :)

Don't blame me, we aren't out of the woods yet! :D

But things are looking up. And I am proud to say that I am now past the 1k SP. So whatever is remaining we are tackling as people who want nothing but the best for this community. Yes? xD

So whatever is remaining we are tackling as people who want nothing but the best for this community. Yes?

I would like to say an emphatic Yes! but at least there are more than before ;)

Yeah, let's see first what all features are added to it before it goes live as things seem to be changing often and new ideas come to light constantly. I almost feel sorry for the condenser and steempeak developers as I feel like I've been spamming them with new additions they could maybe add too much. xD

Questions: Can blacklisted spammers see inside the "Hive"? You know who I am talking about. I just healed Taraz's comment...

Pretty sure they can, but the comments won't be hidden.

Need other frontends to adopt to the new stuff.

Hi @acidyo, if you want to do something good, you could give the small Vienna ("Wien") Community a curation! Thanks!
https://beta.steemit.com/trending/hive-166496

Seems a bit too niche for now, but once crossposting is available I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of original content being shared through our community as well.

I tagged the ocd community before and it felt great. Maybe I'll start doing it more often.

Also, I've just been editing in my posh & oc twitter tag at the bottom as I feel more inclined to edit and less inclined to be one of the first to comment on my own post.

Also, here is a trick: As long as you make the hive-174578 tag your first tag, it will show up no matter the editor used so no need to BETA site.

@acidyo, smart one there, I'm beginning to think that oc and posh's relevance of late, needs to be smartly inculcated into the beta. Glad to see it's turning out nicely.

good job! for us authors, writing is a pleasure but an encouragement by curators certainly encourages the author to do it more often and better. thanks for the support 🙏

This sounds too good. What did OCD think about curating Spanish content? I will do an article about why we should give a little attention to the Venezuelan community and I think it would be really interesting if OCD participates in that initiative. Is it okay if I leave you a link to the article when I publish it? I think you'll find it interesting

We really need to fix up the trending page. It looked really good when newsteem kicked into gear but with all the potatoes, it's been weird.

I don't know how well #posh worked for everybody else but for me it did very well. Not only that I got some nice upvotes from both @ocd and @ocdb, but I started interacting with some of my fellow steemians outside Steem as well. Twitter is my only mainstream social media platform and I feel good about sharing my posts there. Who knows who's gonna find out about Steem through my posts... Great initiative. Keep up with the good work!

I've actually been trying to mix it up a bit in the various communities, posting here or there, but no longer only posting via steemit front end page, but using some of the community pages.

I even went so far as to create my own community page, so that I could access the ones I follow easier.

As always, thank you very much for your effort.
I have been posting in the OCD community and sharing it on twitter and I will continue to do so. My twitter account keeps growing too!

Steem on!

Thank you, OCD, for the info. :) You guys are amazing. I almost always share and post a POS link on my posts. I love STEEM and I want to see it EXPLODE through mass adoption. I am not a very big player, but I make sure to share to almost 2,000 people between my FB and Linkedin accounts.

Love you guys!

I really love writing whether it's food, health, travel or anything else, so appreciate being able to post through the OCD hive, and getting rewards for something I find fullfilling is a real bonus, thank you for that!

EDIT: pressed enter a bit too early, hodl on, lmao.

EDIT:

That should be fun. I hope that those features are out of beta soon.

And I'm still holding. Shit. It's I'm still standing. Oh well...

I'm still holding after all this time

Can't wait anymore. Have to go to sleep.

Yes expose the trigger happy steemian! Can’t wait to get a post out! Now everyone smash that upvote button

now. xD

Updated my comment.

Smart thinking! Good for your project and good for the platform, good for visibility on beta.

As long as it make some dime.. Im in..

Ha it got you too! I was so used to hitting enter to set the tags, that I had a misfire as well... I hope they change that at some point lol.

For those who don't feel their posts fit into the OCD community as they are mainly about gaming but not so much original content as writing, think streaming, gameplay videos, screenshots, highlight clips, etc; we'll be curating the Steem Gaming Community as well.

This can change a whole lot! The opportunities for fresh content creation become vast and thus community expansion. 🙌🤞

Proof of Sharing will not end here, it will just not require the tag anymore and instead be commented with a link under each post which we will be looking out for when curating within our community.

So, if I post with esteem and use "hive-174578" as the first tag, does that post have a chance of being curated by you, @acidyo? One of the selling points at steemfest about this program is that using the hive tag in the first position was supposed to be equivalent to using steemit for any post.

And are you saying that if we tweet, the "hive-174578" posts, we no longer need to make a comment about it to get your attention?

Also - I use steempeak to curate some of the "hive-174578" posts with tipu and some other programs. Does it matter if those people used steemit to post with, or is it ok if "hive-174578" is the first tag? And how could I know the difference without logging in to steemit - or is there no way to know?

Proof of Sharing will not end here, it will just not require the tag anymore and instead be commented with a link under each post which we will be looking out for when curating within our community.

Do you mean the link to twitter ? And about curation , we just need to curate posts as they are posted in the community ? or is there any mechanism, where it can be auto voted before ocdb votes ?

where it can be auto voted before ocdb votes ?

No this is not what we want, you can curate posts posted in our community by following the tag #hive-174578.

Yes link to twitter in the comment section or edited in at the end of the post for #posh

I will call this a smart move.
Good luck

Lol I totally did the same thing and got smashed with flags. Shrug. Blaze it!

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

@acidyo So if I got this right, we are no longer required to use the #posh tag?
But still the #oc tag?

We however still have to place the "#posh shared" information in the "Reply" section below every post that we do? Would it be a good idea to also use the #hivemind tag in our posts?

@acidyo, In my opinion we have to see the Balance between Content Production and Content Consumption. These kind of Transformations in Curation Ecosystem is win win situation when compared to the amount of efforts people are putting in Curation Work.

Keep growing and keep expanding this Community brother. Stay blessed.

I will still be able to see ocd curated posts through ticking Ocd at steempeak explore button right?

Yeah, as long as they have a certain vote from @ocd (I think it's over 40%) it will still show up there. :)

Seeing as you can only post into one community at once, limiting curation to only your community is counter to the idea of communities.

"OCD" community really doesn't describe any one thing, it's just anything and everything. A community for everyone is a community for no one.

This is my concern as well and I've already witnessed this happening with people that were posting in OnChainArt ditching it to post in OCD.

Considering they generally WILL get much higher upvotes, I can't really ask them to post in my community without it sounding a bit selfish on my part.

Hmm, did you read these parts?

We understand there is some concern about our community being a bit too general with the content as most content on Steem that gets curated is original but with the ability to be able to share your posts within more communities in the near future we believe it will work well.

Once we restart our curation through anonymous nominations and compilation posts of the best daily curated posts, though, this will contain posts from outside our community as our focus is to find under-rewarded, overlooked and new authors who may not know about our community.

Yes, but the idea of limiting (even if it isn't completely limited, just primary focus) curation to one community will encourage many people to use your community to get larger votes rather than communities for focused on the topic.

If it was a community about flowers and you were curating flowers, sure. In my opinion, a general community is counter productive and will hinder unique and focused communities from growing.

Yeah that is not our goal, we hope crossposting becomes available as soon as possible so we don't take posts from niche communities but assist them in getting more curation instead. Right now we want to encourage #posh and getting as much traffic to Steemit/peak and it's beta sites as it seems of most importance.

I don't think cross posting is going to happen, at least not for a while. I have something I am working on related to #posh that might be interesting.

Cool, looking forward to it!

We been thinking about a bot that tracks the Twitter engagement and comments with info on a post later on to curate throughout that or add some more voting power based on it but lacking the Devs right now.
