Communities: At Last, We're About to Unlock the Social Aspect of Steem

Once communities unlock the social aspect of Steem, it will mark the beginning of an era where people will not only come to Steem because they want to earn but because of their interests

As a Steem commentator, several moments have found me asking myself what is really social about Steem. And candidly, until the announcement of communities, I was yet to find what was really social about the present architecture of Steem.

With all due respect, there is little or nothing that is social about what we have on Steem at the moment. For too long, we have been running a platform where Mr. A writes a blog post, jumps on the cushion of the Steem blockchain, publishes his post, and then returns to claim rewards. No interaction.

Although the comment button exists for some human interaction, unfortunately, it has been hijacked by bootlickers who have a penchant for making incoherent comments. .

Also, the present structure of Steem easily makes it possible for new users to feel isolated and inadequate even in the company of the crowd. This is because newbies, especially those with low Steem power and reputation score, are usually ignored. The implication is that we have now several newbies who feel lonely on Steem.

After reading a brilliant post put forward by @exyle on the potentials and benefits of the launch of communities on Steem, I felt incredibly inspired its potentials. It will be massively disruptive, reconstructing the whole idea of Steem as we presently know it.

If you ask me, I believe that the launch of the community features will further upgrade the status of Steem as a decentralized social media platfom. Steem will move from the post-and-earn model to interact handle arm. Not only that, communities will be an aggregation of people who share similar interests, and worldview, thereby solidifying social relationships on the Steem blockchain.

And as such, it will be almost impossible for us to still have people who feel lonely and isolated from the Steem blockchain after the release of the community feature. Once a newbie has at least one interest, he or she will have to join the community, contribute to discussions, and get rewarded with the native token of such communities - if they have an SMT feature.

So, the bottom line is that for the first time on the Steem blockchain, the emergence of communities will give everyone a voice, make everyone feel important and loved, and increase the user retention rate of Steem.

Once communities unlock the social aspect of Steem, it will mark the beginning of an era where people will not only come to Steem because they want to earn but because of their interests. Only then, has Steem shifted attention from a reward-centered social media to an attention-centered social media. And of course, the latter is what we need to onboard the masses.

Until I come your way again, I wish you a full STEEM ahead.

Steem is very social, many people are talking in smaller or larger groups about it - on Discord. :) But I don't like it either if all my comments are recorded in the blockchain.

Would you want it recorded on Facebook or Twitter instead? Where your data could be mined and sold without your consent?

Yea, talking on discord is good. But we need to bring that engagement here. Those unrecorded comments are quite valuable to our rankings. Thanks for stopping by.

Would you want it recorded on Facebook or Twitter instead?

Yes, if I can delete them. FB and Twitter are facing a lot of legislative and regulatory pressure. All things are changing continuously.
I can sue, demand Facebook or Twitter, but how can I sue a blockchain? Laws don't exist on Steem, some stronger guy can come and downvote me forever, everytime. Take away my money and ruin my work of years with downvotes. This is an anarchy.

I have to agree with you to a large extent, there are always pros and cons to everything. Your content are yours and you have control over it. But we can't say that of Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, etc. However, I think things could improve in the future.

It is important to find something you really like in real life and be able to interact with minded people on the same subject or niche.

Exactly the point! And that is what community will do.

I have seen enough of the inconsistent or unrelated comments with the contents. I think you are right that we still have to fully consider that this is a social network, but I think that in a certain way, with what is peculiar to Steem, it turns out to be the blockchain most focused on content generation and interaction with its content consumers that all the others, I may be wrong, after all, I am not an expert on the subject.

@tipu curate

Hello friend @gandhibaba, very good reflection.

I think the communities have given a new boost to steem and this will continue to grow.

I share your sentiments too. Cheers!

Hi @gandhibaba

One thing I've realized is that a lot of new income
They come to the platform on someone's recommendation to register and the problem is that after they are registered they are left very much alone.

I tell you this from experience, I was only told about this because I like to read and then that friend just told me to read and read so you know how it works. Of course it's okay to read and read to know how it works, but you always need that pat on the back to know if you're doing it right or wrong.

I have an alternating account where I help those newcomers or someone I know who are walking around on their own without any help, and I show them how our platform works.

Saludos.

I very much agree with you that the present system gives much room for people to get lost and feel helpless. And thanks for your efforts in remedying the situation. Cheers! Hopefully, communities will help to remove that isolation or at least reduce it.

I still don't understand how communities are going to technically work, but I know several blockchains are looking at the technology in this way. I can understand it because I've seen a lot of projects branch off to cater to a more specific niche.

Communities will make content discovery easier. And that will be very promising for Steem. Thanks for stopping by.

Okay so content discovery is what it's about. I thought it might be more tribal. Thanks. Helps.

Dear @gandhibaba

Finally I found some time to catch up with steemit and read your recent post. I wonder if you even still check comments under this publication. I hope you do ;)

I seriously love to see how optimistic you are about future of communities. So far beta version kind of sucks :) Content discovery isn't that much 'better'.

I wish to know if STINC is planning to add option of monetizing traffic on those communities.

Once a newbie has at least one interest, he or she will have to join the community, contribute to discussions, and get rewarded with the native token of such communities - if they have an SMT feature

Rewarding with SMTs tokens for contribution? ehm. Sure. So people would dump it right away. Just like they did with PAL and many other SE tokens? :) Such a SMTS would not have much value. I presume that majority of users would rather hold to STEEM than to SMTs.

Upvotead already :)
Yours, Piotr

Thanks for finding the time to comment, even though you have a very busy schedule.

Communities will change a lot of things about Steemit, maybe not much. As for the SMT tokens, sure I agree with you that many of those tokens will be dumped on the market but the really valuable ones will survive and become strong. I see that PH is ready for what the future promises.

Cheers!

There was a time on steemit where users get to meet each other and interact through meetups, i think that was a good way of socializing until everything went down, but I guess the creation of communities is one way to spark up the fire of socializing once again.

Sure, as you clearly put it, communities will spark up the fire of socializing once again but we also need a decent increase in the price of Steem. Cheers!
