My Unexpected Visit to the National Orchid Garden

in Daily Blog11 days ago

I lost track of the holidays! 😂 I woke up thinking it was a normal Monday, completely forgetting that today is actually Hari Raya Puasa. Even though I was aware of it, I just happened to forget since I was busy yesterday and had so many things on my mind today.

1000026274.jpg

My usual Mondays involve me rushing to catch the bus, but when I got to the bus stop, I noticed something was off—there were very few people. Normally, there would be long queues and a crowd, but today felt different. I checked my calendar and realized it was a holiday! At that moment, I laughed to myself, wondering how I could have missed it. I didn’t have any plans for today aside from work-related tasks.

1000026174.jpg

I did a quick search to see if there were any activities around the city and found out that the National Orchid Garden was offering free entry for the holiday. The best things in life are free, right? So, I decided to go check out the beautiful orchids—and that will be my post for today!

1000026175.jpg

I arrived at the National Orchid Garden around 10:30 a.m., and there were already many tourists exploring the area. Although I've visited the Botanic Gardens several times, I had never entered the Orchid Garden before today. Since admission was free, I felt incredibly lucky to have this opportunity to experience the beautiful garden they had set up.

1000026196.jpg

This section of the Botanic Gardens is the only one that usually requires an entrance fee, so visiting isn't something I can do often. In fact, free entry only happens once a year, usually during a special holiday, making it a rare opportunity that I definitely wanted to take advantage of.

1000026181.jpg

Stepping inside the garden felt like entering an entirely new world, filled with unique orchid species that I wouldn't typically see elsewhere. Some of these orchids are imported from different regions around the world, while others are native to Singapore.

One thing I truly appreciate about gardens like this is how they are thoughtfully designed for the visitor experience. The pathways are carefully planned to provide a smooth and enjoyable walking experience, allowing visitors to admire the orchids with ease. In the Orchid Garden, each section transitions into a new area featuring different orchid species. The flowers are arranged in an organized manner, ensuring that each type of orchid is displayed beautifully.

The reason behind this organization is not just for aesthetics—it also serves a practical purpose. Certain plant species cannot coexist too closely because they compete for resources or pollination. To prevent this, the orchids are positioned strategically, allowing each species to thrive, survive, and propagate without interference from others.

1000026215.jpg

1000026214.jpg

At first glance, visitors might assume the arrangement is purely for visual appeal, and while that’s certainly a factor, there's also scientific reasoning behind it. The placement of each species follows a logical structure that ensures the health and longevity of the orchids.

1000026228.jpg

1000026226.jpg

I also noticed that orchids of the same species are grouped together in clusters. This enhances the viewing experience significantly. A single orchid in isolation may not seem very impressive, but when you see an entire section filled with blooming orchids, it creates a breathtaking effect. Walking through a field of vibrant flowers feels far more immersive and awe-inspiring than simply seeing one or two orchids at a time.

Visiting the National Orchid Garden turned out to be a delightful surprise, and I’m so glad I took advantage of the rare free entry. It was a refreshing experience to immerse myself in nature and admire the beauty of these carefully cultivated orchids. Sometimes, the best moments come from unexpected plans, and today was a perfect reminder of that!

Wow this is amazing I like how colorful they are … the pictures are super cool with beautiful views 🥰

True. The colors of orchids are beautiful even though they are subtle 😊

Nice shots man, good control of the Bokeh as well! Keep it up!

Thanks! I enjoyed making these bokeh shots especially on nice subjects like these orchids 😁

This is an extremely beautiful trip, I have never seen such flowers and plants. I hope I will have the opportunity to visit such a wonderful place someday )

I'm too. My travel to the orchid garden is worth it 😁

Didn’t think much about layout before, but the way they worked beauty and plant health together is actually pretty cool

Indeed. They did a great job on the arrangements of the plants.

great great job

wow this view is very beautiful and breath taking, a pure sign of mother nature right there

Totally agree with you 😁. It was a fun experience for me taking these shots 🤩

you really got a clear shot right there looks like the viewer is right there with you looking at these shots

Such a nice comment. Thanks 😊

you most welcome :)

Have a great day ahead!

you too😊😊

I like that slightly oval boken in the first image! What lens did you use?

Thanks but it's just my phone 😁. I'm using Oppo Reno 13, the basic version.

Interesting. Pretty neat that it has that effect to it. My 85mm F1.8 does that and it's something I really love about it. Highlights end up being more distorted and oval in bokeh as the image reaches its outer parts.

Indeed. I'm quite amazed by how smartphones can already do these bokeh effects.

I haven't get my hands to pro equipments but hopefully someday I'll have the chance 😁

I get curious when I come across photos/places like this.
The bush-like garden appears so thick and I always feel wild animals must be there...at least snakes 😅

I understand your concern however there are no snakes here as most of it is manmade and maintained regularly. 😁

Yes, today is an exceptional day for us as Muslims. It is Eid al-Fitr, and it is a day of joy for us.
What I liked is that you added beautiful pictures of the orchid flower, as I love it.

I'm glad that you liked the photos I shared 😁

Have a great day!

Oh my! My mother would love seeing this place as she's pretty crazy with orchids lol

And my mother too. Orchids have that rare value and it takes time & expertise for someone to care for it.

The orchids featured here are one of rare ones and so it was an interesting day for me 😁

You took beautiful photos of different colored flowers. I really like your photography.

Thank you so much friend!
