The planet earth is blessed with an abundance of land resources, no doubt. Out of an estimated figure of 57,308,738 square miles as the total land area of the planet, only about 24,642,757 square miles or 15.77 billion acres (about 43%) are known to be habitable with others being inhabitable desert and mountainous areas. It is this estimated figure that various land-use practices such as agriculture, roads, and different buildings are being carried out by humans.
The figure about the area of habitable lands above might look huge, however, it speaks of one fundamental thing - land is not infinite. It might not happen any time soon but going by the rate at which land is being put to use, the human population might run out of land to be used in the nearest future. This takes me to the main topic for today, which is about maximizing land for the construction of buildings.
I may not be able to say for other cultures or parts of the world but in the western part of Nigeria, there is this fixation on building houses. Every generation wants to have a house for themselves. It is so much that even those that have houses willed to them by their parents still look to build their own houses. It is generally considered a thing of pride to have one's own house.

In high school, I was taught that land was one of the unlimited resources available to man, but on reading this post now, am not so sure. In the nearest future, if we fail to address pressing issues as regards land management and proper use, especially in this part of the world, land might become one of those very limited resources. It might eventually become a currency, a new medium of exchange.
P.S: Invest in land and HODL.
That was an interesting post. I have a small comment with respect to this:
There are actually two effects here, the increase of human population but also the decrease of habitable lands due to climate change (this has already started by the way, some region of the world having been recently tagged as inhabitable). Therefore, “soon” may actually be sooner than expected…
Finally, let’s note that my vision is very similar to this:
Although in my case I would add the office room, so that when I work from home I have a place to calmly do things. Moreover, it is important to add to the house a nice garden for barbecues and drinks with friends ^^

A big part of modern residential design and architecture is learning how to re-evaluate space. But the important thing is not to create environments where people feel crushed.
You have a lot of vision and it is well founded today we see that people create three-story buildings from scratch or super large houses on land at risk of landslides or that they simply do not cover the home with the needs of future descendants and end up being abandoned.

With the advent of rapid urbanization, prices of land in cities have skyrocketed during the past decades. For this reason, we see a lot of multi-level buildings and skyscrapers sprouting out of nowhere. On some occasions, reclamation projects (sea coastlines occupied by land-filling) are common in locations with enough funds. Unless the neighborhood is a rich community, poorer districts have no choice but to relocate to much cheaper rural areas.
Is it quite expensive to construct and maintain a standalone house in your city right now @gentleshaid?
Okay, I see. Unless the location is a deteriorating metropolis, most highly developed cities harbor expensive prices of real estate and land values that continue to escalate. So it would not be a surprise, that sooner or later, Nigeria will also experience this upward trend. At the end of the day, rural communities will always offer cheaper alternatives for such developments. Thank you for the update! 😊
3D printing houses and more technology coming out is just going to be more amazing.
Awesome post hopefully you have an amazing day.
Yes, you are right, there is a need to look into the past, present and plan for our future buildings. However, don't you think 3 bedroom flat will not suffice some of us who intends to have more than one wife and many children?
Lol! Yes you are right, it is better though
