Blooming, growing and rotting... a bit of everything!

When you have a family, children, pets, plants, students, work or colleagues {and add what you miss here to the list, as it was just a random list}, there are certain responsibilities and commitments you can't just avoid and put away. There are days I would just do nothing but today it is not one I would have many choices. Had to force myself to practice as Mr Deadline is approaching for different things (like a wedding, a rehearsal, a concert - but it is all for another topic) and my morning disappeared. However, I have a pending thing outside, on the balcony. I noticed a very nasty thing that happened to my jelly plant, and I am the culprit. My bad care led it to that condition... but as I want to survive this post and not be killed for my mistake already at the beginning, I will start with the good things. Babies. I have more babies! And flowers! The Ruby Blush, the fuzzy plant - as we call it, bloomed again.

DSC_5774.JPG

After the big plant fell down and broke into many smaller cuttings, I planted those ones and now, those "small" ones are also regular big plants. I gave away a whole pot with a few cuttings to a friend of mine, but still, I have three pots full of plush-leaved fuzzy plants. They bloomed in May and June, and now again. Well, they already bloomed so many times during the last few years, so it is not a surprise. They give so much pleasure. Almost never attacked by a plague (as the other succulents usually give trouble) this plant is easy to maintain. So many crazy stems growing in all directions, full of leaves that you can touch and feel the smooth plush. I know, I already praised so many times this plant, so let's move on to the babies.

Things happened during the last few months and some of the old plants decided to decay, broke and were attacked by mealybugs, so I got new cuttings (in order to save something from them). I started to plant those babies in tiny glass jars as I liked them. Like a small new shelter, until they have roots and grow a bit. And indeed, they are doing well.

DSC_5761.JPG

All of those cuttings got roots and I see how much they have grown (for the curious ones: check here to see what the cuttings looked like - the small ones, not the big cut plant). Those are now in the two jars on the left of the photo below. On the right are other cuttings, that didn't have roots either. They are doing well, but I have to think now to repot them. The glass jar is not a permanent solution.

The old Stapelia variegata also had troubles, the roots got rotten so I made some cuts. After a month it looks ok, no yellow and rotten parts anymore, and it made roots. But, I don't know why it has that brownish colour. Maybe lack of sun? Or too much sun? They will be repoted also, the glass jar is just a temporary home. I think I would like to put all of them together in one big, community pot.

Smaller babies will go there too if I make that community pot. They are rooted from leaves. I am so proud they made it!! I left several leaves in one of the jars and this is the result:

DSC_5765.JPG

Some of them still have the old leaf, but they will detach themselves from them. Well, the leaf will wither anyway and just the new, small baby plant with roots is what will stay.

All of this was nice... but I have to show you the nasty thing that I mentioned earlier.
The poor jelly plant - Haworthia Cooperi.

I had it in a smaller clay pot. Some weeks ago I put it into a slightly bigger plastic pot. The result? The plant didn't like it at all, the bottom leaves changed their colour and they are actually rotting! It is decaying in front of my eyes! And I am the culprit.

It is THIS bad: :(((((((((((

DSC_5777.JPG

The good thing is that I spotted two small babies that started to grow there. I want to save them, but they are still not enough big and strong to pull them out and plant them separately. What I need to do is to take out the plant from the soil, cut off the rotten parts (let's hope there are some good roots still and try to maintain it until the small plants are strong enough to be separated. I just somehow have to find the time, forget the guru's advice from the link and do it. Face the responsibility I have towards my plants and save the little jelly thing!

I see you started your Excuse book 😂 You are a good student!

And I also think the jelly will be fine. Do as you were planning. Take it out and remove the rotten part so it doesn't spread more. Even if it has no roots, the babies will take energy from the mother plant and will grow own roots soon. Then remove them.
🤞

Thank you, I AM a good student 😇😇😇
Why would I otherwise bring my favourite teacher? hahaha

Yep, will do as planned ;)

The jelly will be ok 😀 the stapelia is red because of too much sun. They grow under bushes in nature so they are satisfied with only very early morning sun and shade for the rest of the day

Ah, so too much sun makes it have that colour, ok, it will be protected then, thank you! :)
The jelly... I really hope I can make up the things and it will forgive me and continue to live happily 😂

So nice to learn more about this beauties on the comments :P
I love how they reproduce and how cute they are, plus the photos you took and the care you give them <3

They are cute, indeed. And so easy and rewarding to have them... still, I make mistakes hahaha

I had a jelly plant that died because of my lack of care, but I believe that yours will survive because you write about your plants with a lot of love that they surely feel... 😊

I do love them. 😇 I am sorry when I see that they are attacked by a plague or if they are in a rotten phase or similar, but so happy to see when they are growing nicely. Though, there is a bit of work around them when I need to repot them and find new soil, new pot and else.
Hmm, your jelly died? So you are in our #plantkiller club? :D

Hahaha yes, it died and since then my husband takes care of the plants in our apartment.😀 He is a savior. 😀 I have the will to grow plants, but something always goes wrong because I don't have enough time to take care of them as much as I should.

Hopefully, the jelly will get better after applying the solution you think of. I'm not into this kind of stuff so I can't tell any advice. But I hope for the best for the cute little plant.

I want to save them, but they are still not enough big and strong to pull them out and plant them separately. This is actually great and it sounds like a life advice too. Young ones who seemed to travel the wrong path may still be guided to take the right one. It's not yet late for them to correct their own mistakes and feel loved after being lost for quite sometime. When they can stand on their own feet again and gained positive outlook in life, that's the time you can let them choose what they want in life.

Wow, this got a more deep meaning through your message :)
The young ones have to be guided, as same as the little plant babies need my care. Later, if they want to grow or not, that will be on them :D

Thank you for your wishes, I also hope the jelly will make it through this phase. We will see 🙂

Aaawww so beautiful to see them flower, I remember what happened with all of them.
And than the babies… wow what have they grown 😉😊 beautiful to see.

No idea why that plant is brownish, not always a good sign, keep an eye on it.
Sad to see the rot got into the other succulent, but I’m sure you can safe the 2 new babies.
Good luck with it.
It’s hard to take care of plants when you are not home all the time.
Have an awesome evening and a good Wednesday @mipiano 👋🏻

Yay, you remember? Well, I posted many times about them, whenever I have something nice to show or have some rotting or plague issue with them. Thank you for following the destiny of my balcony plants.

The babies give me a special joy. When I see they got roots, or have grown so much, I am amazed.

The brownish colour, I got the answer that it is because of too much sun. I should not put it on the direct sun, or at least I should plant it with some other, bigger plant, to be in the shadow.

Succulents should be ok, even if I don't have a lot of time. Saturday morning, when I get up and before I start anything else, it is my time with the plants. Check them all, water them, and see if some need to be planted in another pot, remove some bugs, or anything else. But it happened that this jelly didn't like my decision to plant it in a bigger pot. I think.

Thank you for your wishes, You too have a great evening, oh, and happy Thursday tomorrow :)

Of course I do. And I love flowers and plants. So I follow along.
Hope to have soon a jungle again inside and outside a garden… one day 🤞🏻🍀😊

Yes, I know that joy. It’s fantastic. Like truly little babies.

Aha, ok that sounds right. Yes, try that. Good advice.

Yes, most of the time succulents are fine. That is good you have a routine. I did too. Here in the new house not yet. Hehehe 🤭 probably a move is coming soon again. We will see. Hope I could take my plants. Maybe 2 on a plane ✈️ hahaha we will see. 😉

You are welcome @mipiano 😊👋🏻 Thank you so much.
Good night! Have a great Thursday 🤗

Succulents are really cute 😊. Btw, how many times do you water them in a day or week? The last time I grew succulent in my room, it died 🙈..

Oh, no so you are also a #plankiller. I see, the number of people in this club is growing hahah :D

I water them once a week. Every Saturday morning, or when I see the soil dried up so much ( when it is very warm) then maybe once more in the week, but not now. It is still nice weather and warm but not as hot as during summer, so just once a week they get water.

Haha.. I wasn't born to be like my father who has a green thumb 😂

Yeah, there is something in luck, but also everything can be learned!

A wedding approaching? Tell me more:) Yours?

It is wondrous seeing dying organisms(plants in this case) give life to new ones. These ones are a bit different though as they’re growing from a leaf. I don’t see propagation by leaf very common.

Yes, propagation by a leaf. It's amazing, isn't it? Sometimes the leaves fall when I touch the pots and the plants, and those that fall into another pot (or in their own pots) start to grow roots.

Yes, a wedding.

No, not mine 😁

I will play at one wedding this Saturday and have to learn two new songs, which they asked for ;)

Oh in that case I look forward to reading about the wedding. I hope you plan to tell us about it.

I hope I will. Depends if there will be interesting story to tell about that, and will I be able to shoot any photos or a small video or else :)))

It’s a wedding. And there’ll be music. I can see it being interesting already haha.

Wow, my wife was looking for that kind of plants here in our pkace. She said she like tiny plants like cactus and succulents.

Good thing theirs new reborn of plants even if there's some decayed.

Cactus and succulents are easy to grow. Well, you see, "easy" but still there are things that happen. They can decay if we water them too much, or dry if don't water them enough. Also, plagues can come, so there is a bit of work around them but plants give a lot of joy to those who like them :)
I hope your wife will find a plant for herself :)

The succulent with white something on its edges is very pretty.

About the last one, I hope it will still be okay and be great as the others.

Thank you, I also hope it will be ok, or at least until the new ones get stronger. 🍀

What I need to do is to take out the plant from the soil, cut off the rotten parts (let's hope there are some good roots still and try to maintain it until the small plants are strong enough to be separated

Sounds like a great idea

Experience showed me this :D
