It's another #BeerSaturday and today I would like to introduce another interesting beer I have come across in the artesanal beer section. It is called Rrëy, and is described as "THE" craft beer of the North. The name alone was intriguing enough for me to want to try it, and in the end the taste was so good that I will most definitely try it again next time I see it.
Rrëy from Monterrey
Okay, so the weird spelling is explained by the name of the city the beer is produced in. Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, one of the largest cities of Mexico, is named after a much smaller locality in Spain, on the border to Portugal. And always, the name features two Rs, which only looks unusual once you remove the 'monte' from it. As for the two dots over the e, that seems to be one of unique gimmicks of the brewery, placing them indiscriminately over vowels left and right. Just take a look at their website!
Tasty Wheat Beer
I typically tend to enjoy a good white beer, so I was actually looking forward to the taste of this one, but what I found was a level of deliciousness I had not expected. It was deep, flavorful, yet fresh and cool at the same time. (OMG, have I started giving nonsensical descriptions of beer tastes? Am I becoming a beer snob???) In any case, it was quite far from what I would expect a Bavarian white beer to taste like. And sure enough, the ingredients of orange peel and cilantro (coriander) seeds place it way outside of the German purity mandate of 1516. But who cares? The beer is very enjoyable like this, so the extra ingredients are about as disturbing as the inappropriately used Umlaut dots.
Try Rrëy Beer and Join the Beer Saturday Challenge
Unlike with most industrial Mexican beers, which more or less tend to have the same taste, this one I feel like I can recommend. Sure, it may not be everyone's taste, nor should it be, but I'd definetaly say it's worth to give it a try.
As for the #BeerSaturday, take a look at the prompt post by @detlev for more info. It comes out every Saturday, and in order to join, all you need to do is create a post about beer, with at least three images and 200 words, and give it the appropriate tag. You can win lots of cool prizes, so make sure to check it out. For now, I wish all of you a great Saturday.
Cheers!
A surprisingly good beer always beats a good beer 😋
Very true! Thanks for stopping by.
Interesting beer, it looks very dark and a bit cloudy for a Witbeer but if it tasted good that's all that matters.
I think that cloudiness comes from the yeast. The "normal" wheat beers I know from Germany come in two types: the Hefeweizen with its yeasty clouds (sometimes you can even see the yeast forming little pieces), and the Kristallweizen with less yeast and a clearer texture.
Your description of beer is provocative, I think if I see it I might contemplate trying a new one. Best regards
Hahaha, great! I'll take that. Typically I feel these kinds of description of flavor to be super cheesy and a bit snobby, so I try to steer clear of them. But since I wanted to give an impression of the taste, I ended up doing it anyway...
It's good, you can be at peace hahahahahaha
