Not so long ago, I was telling you in "My Song "Mad World" is out Today, 10 years in the making, This Blockchain & Its People Played a Major Role in It, Find Out Why" about my latest release that took a very, very long time to be released.
The concept for the music video was simple, recording a bit daily, and making a time-lapse video, over a period of 100 days.
I started filming on the 28th of December 2022, and finished today on the 13th of April 2023. It took 107 days to shoot, and I kept the rules simple to make sure that I don't go crazy:
- Shoot daily, whenever it's possible.
- Don't change the clothes that you were in on the day
- No reshoot
- Don't miss a day
The last one was difficult because I went to do a gig in Paris on the 3rd of March and missed 2 days of shooting, but other than that, I managed to respect the rules that I'd set.
The first few days, were quite difficult, I wasn't comfortable in front of the camera and was too "fidgety". In retrospect I would like to go back in time and tell myself to relax a little. It's also the coldest days of the year, so it's hard to relax when it's your freezing your balls of.
The morning of the 1st of January 2023 we cheered for the new year!

Wow, such a babyface without a beard haha...Also now that I am done shooting and I don't care about continuity anymore, I can shave it all off again!
I am now a little bit terrified that I did all this for nothing, I know how the internet works, you gotta pay for everything, even to get views, or you gotta be a girl, what if I did all this, and in the end, nobody watches the video, nobody understands the concept, what's next then?
My wife tells me to visualize the goal, but I can't help but let the doubts creep in right now, it's so typical of me.
Anyway, no one will be asking about the meaning of what I am holding in my hands in the music video, and some things have an importance, others don't.
For example, the book that I am reading is George Orwell's 1984. I am also holding in my hand a sword, that represent justice, a scythe that represents death, and the watch that my wife's dad gave to her before his passed away, to represent time.
There are many little meaningful moments in the music video that I forget, it goes so fast anyway, some days are just a split second, a little bit like in real life.
The last 3 days, I am walking off "to the sunset" and I wanted to kids to walk with me, starting with the youngest one, to the oldest. Of course there is a meaning behind it, and I think it's quite obvious.
I am happy to be done with all this, and also proud that I've accomplished what I had in mind, and stuck with it.
What am I expecting from this video? I don't know, I probably need to invest in an ad running up until the of the month, and hoping that it takes off.
Suddenly, after uploading the song, I am feeling sick. All the pressure that I felt on my shoulders is slowly lifting, and I caught a cold in 24 hours! Lol!
Anyway, cheers to my first music video, it took 20 years of career before having one, and it's done with a Xiamomi phone! Hopefully there is someone out there that understands what I tried to accomplish!

It's mesmerizing! Very effective. I love it. The different motifs are interesting, that last being my favorite. Sounds really really good, you have such a goreous voice. Love the message I got from the piece, that there is only one judge you can run away from. Congrats on completing it!

I get what you're saying about worrying that you did it for nothing. It's hard not to measure success by the reward, or votes or likes or comments that something we created generates. But sometimes you just have to just enjoy the ride. The "means" is the end... they might be clichés but they could be true perhaps. If you enjoyed the process then that means that it was successful. Art and artists often are not appreciated in their day. No one gets their work the way that they do or wish others would. But if you enjoy what you're doing than it's worth doing in my opinion.

Always got the right words! I've been thinking of what your wrote for a few days, because I was trying to understand what it is that I am feeling, and today I managed to explain it to my wife. I don't know if you remember how you felt when you finished an exam, a test, and you're waiting for the results.
A part of you know if you did well, but you're always trying to downplay the outcome, in order to minimize the disappointment if you don't get a good mark, even if you did well! That's how I feel about it.
So, did I enjoy the process? Yeah, it was cool. I might have put a lot of pressure on this song, especially because in my mind if I don't get the right "success" I am hoping for, I've always decided that it might be the last one.
That's a lot of pressure on one song, but I also feel that if I were to reach a level of success, it would have happened by now.
This...But how do you know that you don't suck?
I think I understand what you're saying. It's a good analogy.
I think with art and creativity there is an element in which you're sort of presenting a piece of yourself to the world as well. In a way, a person is their art. It's a part of their identity, a part of who they are, so if the art isn't accepted maybe the person isn't being accepted. I think it can feel that way sometimes at least, in some circumstances and for some people. Wanting to be accepted and not wanting to be rejected is innate within us so I think it probably effects us on a conscious or subconscious level. I'm not saying that these things apply to you I'm just talking generally. The brain is powerful and mysterious in a way. We don't always know why we feel, think or behave in the ways that we do.
It would seem that you dont suck.. lol 5000+ views seems pretty successful to me, but we all measure success differently as well so that is for you to decide.
Don't worry haha I probably get affected like everyone else. Also even if I am a bit of a lone wolf, I do feel the need to find an audience for what I create. I don't think we just create for ourselves.
Yeah, it's all about paying for advertisements. I am currently running an ad using google ads, so when people are on Youtube they can see it in their feeds or in suggested content. I didn't want to do a skippable ad before someone else's content, because I feel that I am imposing my music on someone else, whereas giving the choice to the person to click on it or not is, different.
Anyway, for now, people watch 20 seconds and then that's it...So that's the "views" you see. I am still not complaining, I'll run the ad until May and then we'll see!
There is so much content out there these days on so many platforms. You need to find ways of getting your stuff out there for people to see. ads like that seem like a necessity nowadays. Smart marketing really
