Steering the Wheel

Sometimes I sit and take a breather, to process things slowly, as the days come and go so fast, causing me to lose track of my goals.

These things can alter my state of happiness, but by being self-aware I'm able to identify patterns that might alter my feelings and emotions and what influences my thoughts. Other external factors can seep in if I allow them, so I'm mindful of my daily actions and my routine to help mitigate mood swings and zig-zags for a steadier and smoother ride.

Keeping my mind, and thoughts cohesive requires me to remove chaos from my life. This can be in terms of my environment and surroundings, adding structure to my daily life and my agenda, or a change of scenery when possible.

I am most times not too far away from nature, so a little escape and break from tasks is a chance to unplug and be in the moment. This also prevents mental clutter and the serenity needed for focus and the ability to work tenaciously towards my goals.

Staying in a positive frame of mind is not to be dismissive or delusional in thinking that there will always be ups and no downs, but it's for me to identify what might be causing negative feelings, and find my coping mechanisms to bring the desirable change to my life.

Analysing habits

I used to consume content on social media trying to convince myself that I was moving with the times when basically, I was trying to fill a void in my life. I became familiar with some of the biggest bloggers on platforms like IG, and then I acknowledged that living vicariously through make-believe was getting me nowhere and it led to feelings of emptiness.

348379721_928450561713542_7427048480124850334_n.jpg

Addressing that, I understood that continuous self-improvement was something that didn't happen naturally and that I needed to manifest such into my life, so I implemented productive strategies by investing the same time doing short online courses in subjects that appealed to me.
This was the positive shift that I needed to learn new applicable skills and the right direction to finding additional resources, that help me to be constantly in a positive frame of mind.

So, when I reflect on the past things that once brought temporary fulfilment or even moments of turmoil, I can laugh with a feeling of satisfaction, knowing that I'm steering my wheel on the right path for self-improvement in minimalist ways.

What about you peeps? What are some of your regular habits for being in control and what drives you?

Hey you!

I adore the always personal note of your blogging. You can't help falling in love with you :)

I like cleaning! It gives me time to process stuff without having to sit and process stuff (ew), while I still feel productive AND I gain the satisfaction of... well... minmalism, right?...

of clearing and organizing my space.

In fact... this is how I start my day, these days.

And a daily walk / now (slowly) starting to run again - in the sunshine (barefoot is best) to keep balanced.

Learning and progress? Oh... I'm always doing this because ever curious! It's the downtime I need to focus on to avoid burning out and I'm busy learning this now. Balance is my new focus until I figure this out again. I lost it in the chaos as well, it seems.

I'll find it again 👍🏻

Lovely seeing you always. Beautiful lady ❤️

Hey Nicky 😍
Thank you 😊

Yes, cleaning is powerful, and a great way to start the day. It works for me and gives me mental clarity and a calm feeling, because yes, our physical space has an impact on our mental space.

I also like cooking simple meals from basic ingredients (I call it cooking with love) and getting a delicious and healthy meal.

Walking does wonders, but I cannot run at all. 🤣
You do strike me as a runner though, so I'm not surprised.

I hope that you're well ❤️

Ah cooking. Yesssss.

I've picked that up again as well. So love to cook!

We should do a minimalist recipe prompt! Three ingredient meals or summink. Maybe a collab with Hive foodies...

Here waiting to steal your recipes 😈

 last year

Yeah, the cooking prompts do very well. I had one recently and man, I was impressed with the Nigerian dishes 😋

That's a brilliant idea though:)

Haw! I've missed too much!

But back now. I'll go and dig them up.

I did see one and bookmarked it. I think 🤔 Didn't realise it was a prompt. Food! Like!

Have a beautiful day, Milly 💖

I love that you asked that question at the end. Reading this I am reminded of the habits I'm on my way to developing. Of course, I am not delusional enough to think that there won't be days when my discipline won't be tested. I guess this is the baseline for growth. You are tested and when you improve, you are moved to the next level.

I totally understand the part of the emptiness. I wasn't taken to social media but I gave away my time and self to books and things that added little or no values to my life. I came to recognize a pattern with me months ago and understood that while I can take the day off, I shouldn't take my eyes off the road.

I wake up very early these days despite not having to rush to work (I'm on a special leave) and I listen to Motiversity (heard of them?) and Your World Within. For the past few weeks, after I decided to live in the moment and give life all the fight I have got, everything seemed to be going so well. Doesn't mean I am not prepared for the worst...

Sorry for the long ass comment. Just to say lastly that I feel you in the decluttering. There are days I just want to flee. But this is life isn't it? Survival of the fittest.

Fact ✅

I wake up very early these days despite not having to rush to work

That's a great habit. Don't let it slip.

Listen to Motiversity (heard of them?)

No, but thanks for this. I'll look into it.

For the past few weeks, after I decided to live in the moment and give life all the fight I have got, everything seemed to be going so well.

Yes, living in the moment, and being present is the way to get forward.

My road to self-discovery, contentment, understanding, and feeling inner peace with myself was a painful one that I embarked on by peeling back layers, basically turning myself inside out to gain answers. Years later I started to read about things that I discovered on my own and could attest to them being true.
It sounds cliché, but the past is gone, the future we don't know, but we have to make sense and come to terms with where we are now, and what we can do now.
When you do that, it's the only way you'll be able to face and overcome the worst of whatever life presents you.

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate your thoughtful and informative comment:)))

It is always a pleasure...

Do more of what works and less of what doesn't. Sounds like you are doing just that. It's great that you are taking action with your courses and other self improvement endeavors. Nice!

So well said. It's all a trap, though not in the sense some people would make that out. There's a void, something that requires constant attention, work and improvement. So sure it's easier to just scroll sometimes. I am often in awe of how self-aware, and calling yourself on your own bs you are. I love that. <3

Thanks, Honey 😊
Yeah, I think we have to be true to ourselves even if it hurts:)))

Sounds so like me…
Thinking positive is good in many ways.
I do recharge in nature, I need it. It lets me focus and regain strength.
People… society drains me easily. Sometimes I feel to much energies. So nature helps me dealing with that.
Have a beautiful mid week 👋🏻😊
Thanks for the great read.

People… society drains me easily

It's good to know that I'm not alone.

So nature helps me deal with that.

Yeah, and in the Philippines, even though I woke up to the stunning view of endless sea, there were some days when I needed to get away for the entire day and spend time at those little huts in nature where I had grass. It was on archery premises, and it was the only place in the village where there was grass instead of stones because of the limited water supply to maintain grass. I would spend hours just lying on the grass doing yoga and qi gong to re-energise and be able to cope with all the different energies around me.

Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of the week:)))

No, you are not alone. Many of us around 😊

Yes, I so understand. Living in Spain on the coast, awesome views… but no nature to recharge… to heal.
I am soooo happy now I am back where we have 4 seasons. It’s green… forests… grass… nature.
People just need nature.

You are welcome, thank you kindly. Enjoy yours too 👋🏻

What are some of your regular habits for being in control and what drives you?

Like you, I also like to take a break and distance myself from everything. Get away from noise and "business" to recharge.

Oh, hello there! You went quiet after your travels. It's great to see you.
Yes, I've had those pictures sitting, and they made me reflect on some of the things that I was experiencing and what got me through to finding solutions and ways to increase happiness in simple ways:)))

It is great to take a break from the daily routine to reflect on the path that one's traversing. Staying positive goes a long way. It also helps to be grateful as it forces one to remain present.

Great photos!

Yeah, we need to figure out simple hacks to improve our lives. I don't believe in holding onto misery at all, nor do I believing in bringing down others moods to feel good.
I prefer to find improvement in things that are free:)))

Love the pics Milly, theres a lot of feeling there i can tell. Lets slow time down if we can, day at a time. It definitely keeps going, but to fulfill everyday is our mission. Im just workin too much, gotta slow it. See ya later.

Thanks, Captain 😊
Yeah, I do hope that you can slow it down and find balance.
I wish I had you to test my sleep rhythm. It's not at it's best right now at all😏

Its rough Milly, time is our battle.

With sleep, id say lot of factors of course. Starting with current body condition, meds that people take, certain deficiencies, etc. 2 biggest things i see is sleep apnea and movement disorders. With sleep apnea theres degrees, barely there, mild, severe. Sometimes our breathing naturally gets wacky, sometimes in the REM sleep, which happens about every 2 hours or so. The movement disorders usually have to do with people legs, because sometimes people have these little kick/twitch movements, that may cause some awakenings too.

Otherwise, our habits, way we are thinking before bed can have small impact. You appear to be in good shape dear, so hopefully nothing too crazy going on.

I agree. It has a lot to do with my current habit of what I'm doing right before bed, which I'm gonna change what I'm watching on YouTube right before I do, and yes, the legs I think. I have gotten into a habit of not being able to sleep without socks, and it's summer now, so the temperature is a bit warm.😅
Also, my breathing needs to improve.
I'm making conscious notes actually, and I need to streamline my life a bit in general.
Overall, I'd say it's just mild 🤗

Thats good Milly. Little Mild, Little Wild, its a weird mix 😆

I like how you've beautifully captured the essence of maintaining a positive mindset. I believe it's all about acknowledging challenges while actively seeking ways to address them and cultivate positive change. A balanced approach indeed leads to personal growth and improved well-being.
