I got an orange-brown wig recently and I have imagined it in my head to look so good on me. Along with a peach makeup, that's gonna be bomb! Then, I tried it on and I was surprised to see it looked weird on me.
Color theory is so complicated. I would describe my skin as warm golden olive and I have noticed that any peach or slightly warm color that I wear will become orange or too warm on me. Anything that's too warm looks off. That is so noticeable in makeup and apparently in hair color as well.
This orange-brown wig I guess is more of a dark rust in person. When I wore it, it looked very orange and I think I looked "dirty". I don't even know what that means but it's very off I would say. The makeup is a muted peach as well but putting it on my skin color it just looks very orange.
The red lipstick too looks warm red on me, when in fact it's just a dark cool red in person. That's the thing with color (or our eyes?), it changes depending on how they are placed. Some colors will clash when you put them together, some will be harmonious. That is the reason why on some tshirt colors you'll glow but on some it will make your skin look off, sometimes can even take all the colors from your skin and you'll look pale. :D
I can guarantee that a slightly different shade of this wig would change the look drastically.
From what I understand, for my skintone that doesn't show a lot of reds (I show a lot of yellow and green), I shouldn't wear anything too warm. I have noticed muted colors look good on me and recently noticed that cool colored tshirts look nice as well. Yeah I'm an artist but nope I still don't understand that shit haha.
Anyway, just another ramblings about color and how they are hard to figure out especially on a person lol. I'd rather not learn too deep on the theory and what should and shouldn't work... I'll learn on experience. And from my experience I'd be more mindful on the colors that I put near on my body, that includes makeup, wigs, clothing, accessories, etc.
Of course you still have to wear whatever you want even if it "doesn't suit you" cos you don't have to follow the rules. It's just color anyway. Just fascinating how colors are so complicated. :D
Also yeah I'm back to my self portrait era.
Actually the things that I got into in my teenage years are coming back to me as well but this time, it's better since I have the equipment necessary for them.
I guess it's also fascinating how my interests go hard then be dormant for years then make a comeback.
I can relate on your last comment, I'm gonna try and draw a lot in zingtober. :p
As you should!😆🙈
You look very Beautiful
I don't know if I'd completely give up on the wig. It is for sure an unusual color for Asian complexion but so are the blue contacts and you rock them.
When I have my hair lighter (like now) and I have very light skin color what helps is actually darker makeup around the eyes, eyebrows (you don't need that 😄) and lips. All to give more accents to your face. Right now, I feel the mass of red hair is somewhat overpowering.
And yes, the same - some things go dormant and will absolutely come back. I still remember that it was one of your self portraits that drew me to your profile. I'd say - keep going!
Ah yeah I wouldn't. :D I just wouldn't wear it as often. Maybe in some photoshoots will be fine lol. What's weird is the blue contacts is not even blue, it's a cool gray and I was really surprised it looked so blue on me. Glad you liked it, I personally don't like it as much cos I think it's a bit large on my eyes that on some angles it makes me look crossed-eyed.
I should try to pair this with a darker makeup and see what happens. I was going for a more natural look on this and I guess it just doesn't work with the makeup as well.
So cool! I didn't know this haha. So happy to hear this as I thought people have already forgotten by now. 😅🤣
time to go to korea for color analysis hehe
True haha they're so good at those!
I don't consider myself an expert on this subject, but I think it suits you and I don't think it looks strange as you say. You are right that a slight change in tone will make a big difference. What's next?
Oh, thank you! I guess I can try experimenting it with different makeup and clothing, somewhat darker to give more contrast.
Looking forward to see it. Who was the photographer? Acid?
Me haha I do self portraits and just use tripod + timer or remote app on phone. :D
Well you are pretty successful about it 😅
Hahah thank you!
Green cancels out red... so keep that in mind. I think it looks great on you and goes well with the contacts and skintone. I would suggest a darker more contrasting color for your lipstick and/or eyeshadow. The accents you are going to find more fitting to the hair color will be darker and slight. Something on the cheeks or above and under the eye in coordination with the lipstick. I think this was a great set of shots and I think color theory is fun but has it's challenges at times. Glad to see you getting your interests going. Dormant does not equal dead! hahaha
Yeah I've always kept this in mind too but I guess I have not really been paying attention to how my skin in general looks like? Maybe that's why wearing red or orange cancels out whatever green is left in me that's why it looks weird? Lol dunno really
I also would like to try maybe darker and contrasty makeup alongside this since the hair is already light enough. Thank you for your suggestions!
Yes, say you have a yellowish to olive skin tone... you wear a red wig.... the wig will look more orange and the skin will look more white. It's a strange thing and a lot of it has to do with the lighting as well. I used to work at a paint store and had to match colors and it's crazy how a small amount of green will neutralize any red. It's a good thing to keep in mind when you are coordinating colors.
Damn that’s awesome! It also took me a while to find out I have olive skin and for me to realize that, I have to compare how my skin looks like next to my friends. And I’m always so yellow 💀
No wonder you know so much about this! Even I as an artist I stopped bothering understanding them hahah and I can always just rely on my intuition on what looks good and weird without knowing the WHY. 😂 Your knowledge will be so useful in fashion and makeup.
While I think you're gorgeous regardless, I think darker hair colors suit you better. Though kudos to you for even trying - I've always loved this shade of red/auburn. Gorgeous.
PS: Glad you're back here. Always loved your self portraits :)
I've noticed darker hair makes me look young somehow lol. I've gone through lighter hair before too and it has always made me look older. Thank you!
Clean portraits! Welldone.
Setting your white balance before taking your shots can save you the hassle of worrying too much about colours when editing.
Just find a white card or reference white balance card to set it.
It's easy once you try it.
There are so many things that can affect colour right from the point of taking pictures, up to post processing.
Another thing to consider is the screen factor. Different screens render colour differently, and if your screen is not calibrated well, it might appear different when compared to what you actually photographed.
And that's why your white balance is important.
Thank you. I know all these as well, tho I was talking about how it looks like in person that it doesn’t suit me :D
Oh I see.
They're still beautiful nevertheless.
I like the one without bangs. It suits you!
Haha yeah I like that one too! Unfortunately with this wig it's too obvious that it's a wig if you part it in the middle. :D
