Animals don't have voices, but thankfully there are those that stand up and care for them.
Some of us think that only humans can suffer trauma, but animals can do the same when they suffer severe abuses.
Skinny unto death with broken hooves, mouth ulcers, pests crawling all over and open sores can certainly be very painful and traumatic to bear.
That's why I take my hat off for the rescue organizations. All that the poor animals want is love and should they get love, they will cuddle up to one and eat out of your hand. But of course there will always be the abusers, as in human life as well. Papillon partners with the local Rape Crisis Centre and the abuse that the women suffer, mostly from their partners who are supposed to be their friends, is horrific.
But such is life.
Look at this lovely little pony, healthy now with much to eat.
They were carted in this dual horse box to a flea market where we saw them. The NPO that looks after them, was trying to raise donations so that they can care for the animals.
And here below is the evidence that animals can also be traumatised.
Now let me show you some beautiful animals that are properly managed and cared for.
A change of scenery, as we went to a nearby farm.
We entered a little forest to get closer to the cattle.
Now how is this below for a properly cared for Nguni cow?
I also loved the way that the cows welcome their Egret bird tick cleaners.

Love is something that we all strive for in this life and it is so sad to see animals and people going without. Easy to dispense but equally easy to withhold. Millions of songs, and poems, were sung and written about the topic of love, but it is becoming scarcer by the day to find.
One only has to look at the news that donkeys are slaughtered alive for their skins, to be sold as profit, to see the way that greed rules in this life. Apparently, the donkey skins are sought after to make handbags and such things. Never mind that it costs the donkey its life, and unimaginable pain and trauma. There is a rule, love all others as you love yourself. But so many avoid this rule, and eventually it makes their lives bitter.
Love can change everything.
And That's All Friends.

My work with and study of trauma and the like has shown me that the only reason humans do traumatic things to one another is because they don't love themselves.
When we do know how to be really kind an loving to ourselves we know how to be kind and loving to others, humans and all other creatures.

So right as we were taught the same thing about trauma. The perpetrators understand love for the self to mean a selfish desire to rule and to destroy all of those that threaten their rule. Such in the case of a "loving" husband killing his wife in front of their little children to show them his rule. Not thinking what those little ones have to go through.
Too few of those that understand love around these days my friend. Sadly too few!

Wicked that animals can be so badly treated. What really gets to me is how people are capable of making a business out of animals, and when the two legged decides that the four legged, feathered or fur creature is no longer of value to humans, they can be abandoned so cruelly. Our neighbours rescued a magnificent race horse. Only six. We met her a couple months after they'd been working with her (and feeding her!) and she was still skinny and skittish. But what a beauty. Makes me so mad that anyone would make their fortune off her but not care for her all her life
I can see that tis also touches your heart and most people that I know are also terribly upset about it. Our pangolins are disappearing and not only to talk about the rhinos, but the elephants are also in trouble.
Closer to home, pets are being trained to enter into dog fights and they are using puppies for the dogs to kill during the training.
A sad story about the race horse my friend and it is really maddening to see what people are doing to innocent animals.
Most of it is for money of course.

What you may not know is I lived in a game reserve. My first husband was a trails officer. I know better than most what happens out there and that few defend these magnificent animals. One of our friends was suspended and spent 18 months in court - nearly losing - because he was doing his job protecting rhino! And then there's the dog fighting in those rural areas..........

So strange, my wife's sister and her first husband were also wildlife officers and they worked with turtles in the Seychelles islands. You definitely know more than others about the bush wars and the heroes that are trying to protect the animals.
Glad that your friend won his case. Yes, in the rural areas and also in the townships. Small skinny guys that are trying to prove their manhood with big aggressive dogs.

You make an animal post and I have almost killed one today: suddenly a squirrel crossed the street from the left. I slammed on the brakes, the van skidded a bit on the wet road, but then luckily I saw the uninjured squirrel jump onto the embankment on the right 😀
People can call for help, but animals can't. They rely on the people who often don't care if they are hungry or unhappy. Fortunately there are such people who help the endangered or just unloved old animals. It is as you say, my friend, love should rule the world, not money or greed.

Busy with the doctors the whole morning and didn't have the chance to reply sooner.
Now that's one thing that we hate to see. Roadkill. Thankfully you avoided any harm to the squirrel and I know your heart. Some people here deliberately drive over them, and it just shows you how different we all are 😥
Some very sad cases here and you will not believe what people can do to their animals. Luckily we have law enforcement agencies that send their inspectors around in response to complaints and the perpetrators land up in court facing heavy fines if they are found guilty. The animals are then removed and placed at places that care, such as the lovely two horses in this post.

Well, my camera was on the passengers seat before I slammed the brakes. After I stopped and the squirrel was safe, I found it on the floor ... fortunately, it still works fine 😀 !LOLZ
I bet if someone had been behind me he would have rear ended my car, but when I can avoid to kill an innocent life, I will certainly do it.
I don't think that fines will stop such behaviour. They should be locked up just as if they had hurt humans.

Thank goodness that they make cameras a bit tougher these days, as I have also dropped my camera a few times now. At least you dropped yours for a good cause and that squirrel is happy and alive 😊 !LOLZ
The person behind you would be guilty of not following you at a prescribed distance and he will be in more trouble for rear ending a senior police officer that had to stop for an emergency. Then the investigating officer will find fault with his brakes and the fact that he didn't concentrate on the road.
So the judge will ban him from driving for 6 years, he would have to repair your car and he will get a huge fine. I think that's how it works in the mountain goat's country 🤣🤣🤣
They are desperate people because they have no work, but the state should follow the money and arrest those that pay them.

A few months ago, when I was in a little gorge Slovenia, I forgot to hold the camera when I loosened the screw of the camera mounting plate on the tripod. The camera fell on the rocky ground and luckily a rock stopped it before it could fall about 10 meters down into the river. There's a little scratch on the camera body but it still works completely fine and the 100-400mm camera lens is also ok as if nothing happened.
So, my reply is: yes, they make very tough cameras these days 😀 and yes, I would at least have saved a life, even if the camera had been dead 😁 !LOLZ
Here, if you rear end a car it's almost always your fault. So this wouldn't have been a problem.
True, the real criminals are behind those people and they should be locked up forever.

Good afternoon Hannes,
Not to worry, as I know about your situation with the shifts.
The doctor is now trying to get me into a government hospital in the big city in order for them to do the scan. But I heard some bad news yesterday from a friend who had the scan. Apparently they inject one with a radio active ink and then a machine scans the body to search for red cell blockages and leakages.
The leakages show up in yellow colors on the scan.
He warned me that the ink creates kidney troubles afterwards and that's all that I need now 😮
Ach no, I am not so clumsy, as I treat my camera with great care. I only hook the strap with my foot when I type and the camera falls off the desk onto the soft floor 🤣
You were lucky that the camera didn't fall into the river 10 meters down, as then you would have had a difficult climb down to go and search for it. I can see you in my mind's eye forlornly searching in the cold water for the camera. Lucky also that nothing serious broke on the camera.

Yep, I was lucky, because there wouldn't have been a way down to the river and the camera would have been gone with all photos I had made that day. I saw it falling but I couldn't move and I have no idea why I didn't hold it while I loosened the screw because I always take care ... well, most times to be honest 😂 !LOLZ
I don't have a camera strap, so that wouldn't be a problem. You're lucky too that the floor below your desk is soft - a thick carpet, I suppose 😀
People here don't keep enough distance too, so such accidents happen quite often too.

I did not know that they use donkeys for their hides! Is there a reason for this? Accessibility? Cheaper than a cow? That is just horrific, skinning them alive. My brain cannot process that kind of cruelty. :(
It is so good to see animals being rescued like that, what a difference a caring person makes in their life. I am always on the lookout for neglect, another type of abuse that kills, but, many times, not purposely. Sometimes it is though.
Just like with humans, animals respond to love, especially freely given. I think animals have a sixth sense that tells them who is good and who will harm them.

Oh yes, we have read some horrible things about the donkey hide trade Lady Denise. Manoy other animals such as the Rhinos are also killed for their horns to be cut off by poachers. A magnificent creature to killed only for its horn that consists of compressed hairs and have no medicinal value whatsoever. Pure cruelty and madness.
I know your heart and at times it is indeed tough. Wherever we sit for coffee in the open and there is a dog about, it will come to me for a smell and a rub !LOLZ
My mom used to say that whenever an animal doesn't like a person, on has to be careful of that person. And a few times I have found it to be true. So yes, animals definitely have that sixth sense.

Oh yes, some are killed with hammer blows to the head. If you Google "donkey killings in south africa" you will see what I mean.
At first I thought that the skins were used for leather crafts, such as shoes and handbags, but not so, as the skins are used in China for medicinal purposes. Terrible!

It is terrible the cruelty of some humans. They are not worthy to be on this planet. It is heartbreaking to see abuse to defenceless animals or people.
You mentioned the skinning of donkeys alive. This is like years ago when the buffalo were hunted and skinned alive so the hunters could save a bullet. Unimaginable pain for the animals.
People are people Lady Jo, some are good and others are bad. Just the way of life and it will always be like this. One cannot make excuses for the bad ones, but one also does not have to endure them.
So yes, it is heartbreaking to see the works of their minds.
And today very few buffaloes are left. It will be the same with the donkeys if these acts of destruction and pain is not stopped in its tracks.

Cruelty to animals is rampant in this country, judge people of a nation by the way they treat nature.
Snare aware is a group going through all green spaces to clear snares which not only hurt small buck, dogs, cats or anything entering.

You know it Lady Joan and we see it so often in the news here. Some people are never what they seem as even one of the high ups were arrested for the mistreatment of animals on her farm.
Snares are a real curse and on the farm we often destroyed them. Good that there is a group around that clears them, as the snares can cause a terrible and painful death, or injuries to animals.

Killing fields let loose once again, we have someone going around after midnight hurting feral cats, recently warned to keep dogs indoors or close, as they are being stolen again.
Clearing snares is ongoing, we not getting into areas we used to a couple of years ago, forever removing snares in bush or fishing line on beach walks, people?
