Easter. The word "Easter" is derived from Eastra, the name of the ancient German Goddess of Spring. The festival to celebrate was the vernal equinox, which is on the first Sunday following the first full moon. Such a movable feast this is! We knew it was going to happen. Easter? #MarketFriday? A match made in heaven, yes? We should dive right in before it gets crowded. After you!
I came here on the promise of an item I was looking for. This is a vintage postcard I bought years ago. I framed it and got a small easel for it, and put it out on a small table near my couch around Easter. After the first year, I liked it so much, I just left it - all year round. My sister loved that postcard so much, I wrapped it up one year and sent it to her. She loved it and still does. I had heard that they were in possession of some of these postcards and so, I came to check them out and got caught in the web of Easter! How delightful!
The bunny house. I would recognize that anywhere. Its very being looks like spring has arrived, just waiting for its doors to open and welcome people in. To be sure, the flowers, the bunnies, and the cheerful place just give me a sense of peace. That has such a calming effect on me, not having to work for the effect, but, having it wash over me.
Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) Join me as we share our markets across the globe. I always look forward to seeing what you send me! It is amazing to see the different markets and cultures of our friends here on Hive.
I picked up a Paas Easter Egg coloring kit. Every year around this time of the year, the family starts talking about Easter Past. Things we have done, places we have gone to celebrate the Holiday. We have gone to the White House where I watched the Easter Egg roll. Enjoyed Ostersonntag in Germany and the wonderful confections they have there. The chocolate is creamier than that in the States. For a long time, we didn't spend Easter on the same continent two years in a row. But, it was always fun, and we always painted eggs. We packed them with us.
There was something about that ritual that I loved, perhaps it brought me to my childhood, the memories of my own that I wanted to pass down to my own children. Are there any rituals or celebrations that you want to pass on to your own children or one of your young relatives?
With those rituals came the other little parts of Easter that came and went, depending on the age of the children. When they were little, I would go to stores like this one here and delight the young and young at heart. I could get two small bunnies for the same price as one big one. Magic eggs, and then the empty eggs, just waiting for you to put something amazing in them! To be fair, my kids still thought it was amazing to get a quarter in their eggs. Little did I know I would have three coin collectors! I should have seen that one coming!
I'm overwhelmed by the amount of Easter decorating ideas and things to do it with here. I have an Easter Tree, so people think I am over the top with decorating, but my tree is a a small piece of branch and I paint it. I was looking for a special ornament to put on it. I have some glass handblown ones from Europe that I love and have had for years and years. Do you have any special decorations for Easter? Or am I in this one by myself?
This little duck reminds me of the year I got my kids ducks, they were mallards. We raised them until they were big enough to defend themselves and then let them loose on our pond. The end of the summer came and they migrated south, which made the kids sad... until Spring came and they and their new mates came with them. They came back every year... and we had families of ducks until we moved. I miss those days. this little duck was $12.99 which was more than the little mallard cost me - and way more satisfying!
I could almost not photograph these little bunnies. They were made of real rabbit fur. Look away! They were tres expensive! White too. I don't want to know how or why. Some things are better not knowing.
As always, there must be flowers to color my world. #alwaysaflower

She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:

It is almost Easter!! What a fabulous time of the year to take joy in all of your many meaningful blessings! No matter how big or small, I am thankful for it all.
Easter, also called Resurrection Day and Pascha, is a Christian holiday celebrating Jesus Christ returning from the dead. Christians believe that it is the holiest day in the year. Some people who are not Christians celebrate it as a cultural holiday. Easter is not held on the same date every year. This is called a moveable feast. Currently all Christian churches agree on how the date is calculated. Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the first full moon which is on or after March 21st. This means it is celebrated in March or April. It can occur as early as March 22 and as late as April 11. Western churches, like the Roman Catholic Church, use the Gregorian calendar, while Eastern churches, like the Eastern Orthodox Church, use the Julian calendar. Because of this, the date of Easter celebrations is different for these two types of churches even though the way they calculate the date is similar. In 2015 Easter was celebrated on April 5 for both the Gregorian calendar and Julian calendar. In 2019 Easter was celebrated on the 21st of April. source

I wonder how are the churches doing this Easter.
Since we are opening up, probably more onsite activities for them.
Anyway, get lunch has stall that just opened early this week near the office.
https://hive.blog/hive-105017/@ace108/marketfriday-new-roast-meat-stall-near-office-or-by-ace108
Woo-hoo! That is good, right? The new stall, because that is what they need in Singapore!!! More places so that queues can get shorter. :)
The churches are open again, most anyway. There are some that are still doing the online thing, but, my church is open. More onsite activities. Finally feeling a bit more like normal.
I hope you are having a good week over there!

Milkglass! I love my milk glass, a summer thing in my house. We didn't have as much jadeite, but, I still have my grandmother's coveted fruit bowl and hobnailed jars and such. What a wonderful memory you put out there this day!I appreciate you dropping the link!

Oh you're already shopping for Easter😳, I heard no idea it's this close, I guess the Muslim fasting season starting tomorrow clouded my mind, as I've to meet up with some of their craft demands.
Thanks for the reminder, this store seems to have almost everything needed for Easter decoration.
Thanks once again.
it's been two weeks since I last visit the market or post Here due to some reasons, I hope all is well and everyone is doing great?

Yes, our fasting season of Lent started three weeks ago and will be over on Easter morning, April 17th. I had to go back and read when Ramadan started and how they determined the date.
And now I am clear about it once again.
No worries on the markets, life gets busy and the one thing that I can say is that life is first and this fun when we have time. I appreciate the thoughts and the post! Thank you for dropping the link!

Yep and the with the New Year they celebrate for over a week having water fights with water guns it's really crazy but fun they call it Songkran festival take a look on google or YouTube I will do a post on this event 😊
This has got to be one of the most fun Festivals ever!!!! Look at that painted elephant!
It really is and they cancelled the Songkran in the past 2 years because of covid so I would imagine this new year is going to go of after 2 years of no fun.
Oh, the Bunny House!!!
It is fun just to look at the many stuff...
but doesn't it bring you back to your childhood days?
Easter Sunday is in three weeks! Yay!!!

What a beautiful post Denise; those bunnies and the Bunny House is absolutely stunning! I would not know where to start!
I am very late with my #marketfriday, but blame it on being held imprisoned and eating too much after my Prison Break
How can I possibly hold that against you? Being imprisoned is harsh enough without eating too much, yes?
Thank you so much, Lizelle! @lizelle I always love the Bunny House that they put up! So much fun~!!

Nice store. Although I wouldn't buy those rabbits made with real fur . That's just too weird. How cute the story of the ducks and their mates coming back to your pond was . Ha ha ha...that duck in the store is expensive, really . Come to think of it I have never celebrated Easter here. I've never even noticed when it's been celebrated. I will try to be more aware this year to enjoy the celebration with the easter eggs and the things the kids do here. In our countries if you are catholic you go to church, to some Easter processions and you don't eat meat. You eat fish, the prices of which are sky high because people only want to eat fish. For the vast majority, the holiday is just a time to go to the beach and enjoy with family and friends.
I didn't! :) Although I could tell they were soft, yuck!! Easter is celebrated on April 17 this year. It is a moving holiday and changes every year.
I am Catholic, so perhaps maybe that is why I am more aware? We have Ash Wednesday which starts the Lenton fast, no meat for my family, although they now only do it on Friday. Fish is plentiful here as we are close to fishing... and we fish ourselves. :)
I do realize it is mainly Catholics, but, it is a universal holiday now. I still like coloring eggs! :))
Thanks for stopping by!

I love Easter.
When I was little we do go for Easter hunt, where they place goodies in a shopping mall and rings a bell.
You have to search and find anything attached to the celebration. When time is up, what you picked will be checked and if is valid you're free to take it home.
I could almost not photograph these little bunnies. They were made of real rabbit fur. Look away! They were tres expensive! White too. I don't want to know how or why. Some things are better not knowing.
Ooooh my,let me look away lol. But they are so pretty.
We went on Easter Hunts when we were kids! So much fun to be had! Usually, it was in our backyard or at my Grandmother's house with all the cousins.
They were soft and pretty, but, most people don't like that they are made of fur.
I thought I saw a post for #MarketFriday, if so, please drop the link here in the comment section. Thank you!

Love Easter time! In Brasil it's more about chocolate. Here in Canada I notice a trend of more "teddy bunnies", decoration and eggs decor. Besides, the chocolates are cheaper. Can't wait to spend our 1st Easter in a different culture.
I'm sure it will be very exciting being in a different culture! I loved every moment of my time spent living in Europe and different places around the globe. The cultural exchange is most exciting to me. That is one of the reasons I love #MarketFriday!
I think you posted in the #MarketFriday challenge this week. If that is correct, you must drop your link here in the comment section. Thank you!

We call it "Húsvét".
I translated the quote from above from the Hungarian Wikipedia article of Húsvét.
Happy Easter to everyone.
Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.
You can get thirty different meanings. Mine was from Wiki too, but, I went with a secular one. I am Catholic, so I adhere to Lent, but, many people do not. It is no longer meatless as it was when I was a kid. Now they just do it on Fridays.
Have a great weekend! Easter is officially April 17. I was giving a preview! :)
Muy bello todo @dswigle es hermoso ver las bellezas para decorar y celebrar la pascua 🐰

Do have a wonderful weekend friend
Truth! This year is truly flying by! Nigeria is interesting and remarkable in April? How so? You can share it with me!
Have a wonderful weekend there! It is a sunny, beautiful day here!

Wao that cool 😎 @dswigle
Dear friend @dswigle here in Nigeria government always declared holidays for the celebration especially for Christians, and also in churches there are teachings about the crucifixion of Jesus and resurrection also families do have special delicacy cooked and served in their homes to celebrate 🎉 that day some families will even get the children new cloths just like xmas 🎄
It is much the same here, @tobywalter I went to a Catholic School growing up, so they had a very big deal during Lent. Easter is the big holiday/event for Christians. No Holiday is more important on the calendar. We usually have a big family gathering with special foods cooked that day, the family goes to church and we have a large family celebration following that. Some places have Easter Parades and other festivities, but ours is more family. Easter ALWAYS brought new outfits, including an Easter Hat. :) Most don't do those anymore, but, they were always the one time of year that all girls got a new hat!
Sounds just like here!
Wao that's cool friend @dswigle

How fascinating, over here we say it is derived from Eostre, or Eostrae, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring and fertility!
I used to love painting hard boiled eggs and rolling them down hills:)
Now the only Easter decorations that I have are well chocolate eggs, hehe not sure if they will make it until Easter Sunday 🤣🤣🤣
