So while this IS the contest post... you can't start writing yet! First, we need to collate a list of all those who would like to take part... and I do hope many of you will be up for the challenge. I promise... it's fun! Ask @wrestlingdesires or @jesustiano or @dibblers.dabs
This month we would like to leap out into the unknown, for many of you, and try some collaborative writing... This is when two or more people come together to co-write a piece.
Now the way we envisage it working for dreem-wotw this month is as follows:
If you are interested... and we are looking for genuine committed interest here... as your assigned writing partner will be relying on you... please comment on this post before midnight UTC Saturday 25th March to confirm that you are up for this challenge.
I will collate the names on Sunday morning and use a randomiser to pair up writers with each other. In this month's contest, there will be no distinction between Dreemport staff and the public; the only caveat being that staff will only be paired up with a member of the public.
The pairings will be announced around Sunday midday UTC in a comment to this contest post. Everyone who has agreed to participate will be tagged in the comment. The writing teams will then need to liaise with each other to decide who will write the first half of the story (Part 1) and who will write the second half! (Part 2) So, for example... who will set the scene, introduce the character (s) and the conflict... and who will develop the characters, and the arc, and resolve the conflict, bringing the story to a satisfactory conclusion. Note: your story does not have to take a standard approach to fiction... You can be as creative as you wish.
But here's the rub (or the curveball... or two) 😊🙃😊
In the comment on Sunday, we will reveal the first prompt.
First prompt? you ask 😱 YEP!!! The prompt will consist of an opening line that must be used to START your story. ie: it will be your opening line.
All writers of part 1, will have until Midday UTC Friday 31st March to write and publish their posts in the Scholar and Scribe community on Hive (This community allows serial fiction). This cut-off time will be very important to prevent an unfair advantage from being taken by any collaborative team. They will also need to drop a link to their post into the comments on this contest post so that we know that part 1 is completed, and so we can be ready to drop the second prompt Friday afternoon.
The title of your story must have Part 1 included in it. Once it is published, you may not make any significant changes to the post to make it fit better with Part 2 later. A significant change would include retrospectively adding back characters or events etc into part 1 that your writing partner chooses to mention or introduce in part 2. Minor spelling, grammar, and formatting changes will be allowed.
- A second prompt will then be released Friday 31st March in the afternoon in a comment to the contest post and all contestants will be tagged. This prompt will serve as the starter sentence for part 2 of your story and it will be the job of writer #2 to ensure that part 2 flows as naturally as possible from part 1, and to pull the threads of part 1 together as best as possible in part 2. Having a second compulsory prompt ensures that writing teams cannot sit together and write the whole story in one go, as they have no idea how the second prompt will affect the direction of their story.
Tip: Writer #1 should consider leaving Writer #2 with space and flexibility to enable them to write creatively with as much ease as possible.
- Note: There will be no ... "part 1 was all a dream" nonsense in order to find a loophole to navigating around either of the prompts...😂😂😂... You guys are all so much better than that!
(Bobby Ewing died ok... studio contract disputes made sure of that... and then low viewership brought him back to life. The end. Calling the entire season 8 a dream was complete and utter nonsense... although Dallas fans were happy to have Bobby back!!! 🤣)
Our grading team can also take part for fun - and they will be paired up exclusively with other grading team members. They will not be given prior access to either of the prompts.
Contestants will be required to share the URL for their dreem-wotw entries (both part 1 and part 2) in Dreemport in order to be considered for any of the dreem-wotw placings and prizes, as the Dreemport ranking is an important first step in the process, to enable us to shortlist the entries as necessary.
Both Part 1 and Part 2 should have the same main title with either Part 1 or Part 2 added to it so that the grading team can easily tie up the two.
All entries will be screened by Dreemport screeners for plagiarism, and copyright infringement (all images must be credited back to the original photographers, and URL links to those images on royalty-free sites MUST be provided), and to ensure that they meet PG13 guidelines.
Please note...
IT IS THE ONLY DATE AND TIMEFRAME WITHIN WHICH SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THE S2 R3 CONTEST IN DREEMPORT.
The curation/submission cycle starts and ends at these times so there is unfortunately little room for flexibility. All valid submissions to Dreemport will be reviewed and ranked by public curators the following day.
If you want to have your voice heard in this respect, simply log on the next day and curate and rank the 5 random contest posts assigned to you. This part is highly advisable, as part of the grading process includes an allocation of points for engagement... but engagement is only assessed if you do Dreemport curation of the contest post in Dreemport on the day following the contest submission date.
The dreem-wotw team will then use a Merit grading system that incorporates some aspects of the ORIGINAL Merit Grading Model developed by @scholaris and others added by @juliamulcahy in order to determine the winners.
If you have not used Dreemport before, you will need to register on dreemport.com, which is a quick and easy process.

We will still read your entry as it forms part of a collab and it wouldn't be fair to your writing partner not to... but unfortunately, it will not be able to be considered for the individual prizes as we review only the top-voted posts in Dreemport from contest day submissions to decide those. Writers must stick to the contest day because (1) on contest day only dreem-wotw entries are allowed in Dreemport which makes it easy for the grading team to shortlist for review for official prizes, and (2) makes it easy to assess how many people entered and therefore helps us to keep our dedicated Dreemport day for dreem-wotw.

Someone just asked how long each part of the story should be... Great question! I think between 400-750 words for each part of the story would be a good guide given that most complete short stories in the different communities range from around 750 - 1500 words... but this is not a hard and fast rule... although clearly we are aiming for some balance in the collab so not one person writing 200 and another 1300 hehe... but if one does 400/500 and another does 1000 that will be ok if the story is balanced... just try to meet a minimum of around 400 each 😎 and try not to exceed 2000 words in total across the 2 parts as the grading team have a lot to get through this month hehe... we won't disqualify if any go over though... it's a fun challenge after all 😊🙃😊

Aah, I tried to put it in for you last night and discovered that you had submitted it to Dreemport already but not on the dedicated Dreem-Wotw Dreemport submission date, so it wouldn't let me share it again as each post can only be shared once on the platform. I !LUV it. You're in and you're not even sure how it works yet. You just know...you're in! 🥂
The paired writers will write a 2 part story: writer #1 will write part 1, writer #2 will write part 2. So it is a serial fiction but you only write half of it! Your partner writes the other half... Writer #1 takes their prompt and writes a post in response but purposely does NOT finish the story or resolve the conflicts etc. That is for writer #2 to do using prompt 2 as their starting point but also having to write as if they had just written part 1 themselves and were simply continuing and finishing the story. Make sense?

What kind of style or genre should we go for? Also, the word count should be between 400-750 words per part, so as a whole the story should be 1,500 words, but we can go a little over the limit if needs be, we'd want to stay in and around the limit though, because the judges will have a lot of work to get through.

Hey, @alonicus I'm going to tackle part 1 and have been paired up with oblivioncubed who will be doing part 2, as we're supposed to work in pairs for this competition/collaboration.
That quoted line is the first line of the story and is to be used for the prompt for part 1, and then part 2 will see the story continue, and the writer of which will be given their own prompt line to start their part off with.
Each person is to write about 400 - 750 words, making the entire story about 1,500 words. Obviously, they can exceed the word count, but I think everyone is going to try to stay in the range, to keep it manageable for the judges.
I'd love to read your submission to it though, so I'll tag someone who I've read the work of before and hopefully, they could team up with you.
@litguru (sorry for the random tag) would you be interested in pairing up with Alonicus on this? I noticed that you don't seem to be participating; I don't know if that's by choice or whether you just missed this post. I've read your stories though, and they're pretty sick. You will both submit your posts individually to Dreemport on Tuesday, just as you would for a normal post. Make sure that part 1 and part 2 have the same main title and are labelled part 1 or part 2 so they can be easily matched and read in order by curators and grading team. All you had to do for step 1 was write part 1 and publish it to Hive by midday yesterday. You only share your link in Dreemport on Tuesday as per the instructions in the contest post. If you follow the link to Dreemport.com and then register using your email address, then on Monday you should be able to click on the daily tasks tab on the top row of the website, then select curate and get assigned 5 random articles to curate. Once you have read and ranked them, you will be able to select submit from the same drop-down menu under daily tasks and then fill in the details of a post as required. Dreemport is closed on the weekends so you will not be able to curate or submit until Monday.
BUT DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR CONTEST POST ON MONDAY. ONLY DO THAT ON TUESDAY AS PER THE CONTEST POST REQUIREMENTS.
Have you registered yet? If not then I suggest you register asap. Then try to curate on Monday even if you have no post that you want to submit. Then at least you will know if it works or if you need technical help from @penderis.
Also have you joined the discord. You can get tech help quickly in the Dreemport discord if you pop a note in the reporting channel.
I found my way around it, curated five post, but couldn't still submit...
Were you presented with an error message at all? or were you able to access the submission page and had an issue then? Could you drop into the discord please and tag @pen-bot in reporting channel please with any screenshots or details of the issues you faced. If you don't have the details now, then please try to curate again on Monday and if you hit the same issues, take screenshots and drop them into the reporting channel for @penderis who is @pen-bot in Dreemport discord. The link to the discord is in the body of the contest post.
I got an error message trying to submit... But I will try again now that I have a better understanding just to make sure it wasn't something I didn't do that caused it.

Hi I have had a look at your account and marked it as verified , you can let me know Monday if you are able to submit after curation.
