This is Part 9 of a new series.
On earth, we get one body. If we destroy it, it’ll be gone, so health is important. Interestingly enough, it seems that being healthy and homesteading can work really well together. Enjoy the video!
PART 9 - HEALTH
For us, homesteading seems like a great way to be sure to keep our bodies healthy. In Part 10, I will share about how homesteading fits with the experience that we desire to have in this life. Stay tuned!

It's fantastic when you can do what you love and stay fit at the same time. Sure beats working a 9-5 office job and having to slog it out at the gym afterward to get some exercise!
Absolutely, paying for gym membership is obviously out of the question! Thanks Matt!
what do you think about Integrated Farm? in our lives.
Another good one Bro ! I think this is probably one of the most important aspects of what people are calling "Homesteading" these days, I call it "natural Living" as man was intended. Personal health is so important, especially as you mentioned, getting older.
Of all the things you have talked about in this series, this video pretty much sums it up. Most of the videos speak of creating a lifestyle to increase your "mental" health. Call it freedom, happiness or self sufficiency, self reliance or whatever, It all boils down to one thing. DECREASING STRESS !
All the healthy foods, meds and workouts at a gym does nothing to improve the destruction to your body that stress inflicts. I am so happy for you and your family to see that you are to the point where the "major" stress of moving and setting up a homestead is lessening to the point where you are starting to feel healthier, more so day by day I would imagine.
The things you mention in this video about health are what we all should be trying to do to improve our own personal health. Just being in nature, breathing non polluted air is unbelievable asset to a more healthy life. Even the "work" that you are doing, in a non contaminated environment benefits your personal heath. The things you mention all add up to a great "formula" for creating and living a healthier life.
The constant contact with healthy microbes, the lack of poisons in the water, the air are great, but as you mentioned, growing your own food without all the poisons that corporate farming or "store-bought" food include is paramount. Not to mention the quality and amount of vitamins in your food compared to "store-bought".
Another great video, thanks for sharing !
Wishing you and yours a healthier life !
Hugs all around !
Your friend JT Streetman
Very well said. Good point on vitamins. If the food isn't grown in soil that has vitamins and minerals in it, the food is deficient.
Indeed ! Thanks for responding, Much respect bro !
Very good point about health. I filter my city water so I can drink it. It still doesn't campare to a drink of well water out of a garden hose. And I and my son who is also 37 both walk to and from our jobs everyday. I noticed I have more energy than some of the 20 year olds at work.
I did receive the seeds you sent me in the mail. I am going to have a section on my patio of a @papa-pepper garden.
I used to love my half hour walk to work in New Orleans.
Glad that they made it safe!
I walk for a half hour to work. My son walks for 45 mnutes to his job. and we both are on our feet all day.
Love the videos papa...i noticed that im in horrible shape at my current job in front of a computer.it may sound crazy but i miss my hard labor jobs (sometimes:) because i was leaner, stronger and healthier...the city jobs are killing many...all the best brother
Being able to have better control over what you put into your body is so important.
So many doctors prescribe medications, which only mask symptoms, bandage the problem.
People pay higher insurance premiums because of high blood pressure, weight, smoking, etc
SO healthier living is better.
Nice to enjoy nature too. So happy you, and many others, are able to work your own land and actually enjoy life.
Well water? OMGoodness... I love well water. When I drink 'city water' I think 'ewww' tastes like chemicals and goodness knows what else
No kidding who knows what else!
Good comment @goldendawne. Having a natural healthy lifestyle prevents so many nasty diseases and ailments. Pharmaceutical companies rather you eat crap and smoked. Then they would sell you their drugs to make you feel temporarily less sick.
Being happy is another way of being healthy. It is amazing what the mind can do.
Great Post, loving this series. City dweller, so its a bit of a tough pill to swallow. Love how you teach without the preach.
Thanks for that. I was a city dweller too, but I tried to live cautiously. Stay safe and be careful!
I drove a forklift for 9 years and actually enjoyed it. You're really close to the age I was when I was diagnosed with MS (38). Since your talking about immune systems, I thought this was relevant to mention. I was always an active person and as a kid in the country, I was always playing in the woods, river and mud. During my 12 years in law enforcement, I was exposed to bookoos of germs and bacteria and only God knows what else. My point is, at 38 I was in really good shape and I still contracted this disease for some reason. There are theories of how MS is contracted but nothing definite.
I agree with taking care of your body because you only have one and if you take care of it, it will take care of you... That sounds a lil strange but I'm sure you get the point. It took me a long time to realize that. I smoked for 24 years before finally getting the hint. I stopped smoking on May 10, 2010 and that was one of the best things that I have ever done. Great video!
I smoked heavily for about a decade myself. Rough stuff there getting MS at 38, wow, I can't imagine that. I enjoyed the forklift gig too, I just prefer to be out in the wild, although I used to take breaks and go to the nearby river to catch salamanders, snakes, turtles, and frogs quick before I had to go back to work!
Yeah, I was pretty surprised about it myself. It ended my law enforcement career which damn near killed me because I was passionate about my job. I had many special certifications that were very difficult to earn. I had also saved several lives which was the best gratification I could ask for. That was the most difficult part to deal with, not the disease itself but losing everything I had worked so hard for to get.
But, stuff happens for a reason and I got over it and moved on. I learned that I'm still very lucky because my disease could be in a more progressive stage than what it's in now and I could be confined to a bed 24/7. I've been bed ridden before for several days and even went blind (temporarily) but I've been fortunate to bounce back and be somewhat active again. Another lesson that I've learned is, we're not promised tomorrow and life is EXTREMELY fragile and precious, so you better make the most of it while you can. The night that I went to the ER, I thought that the pain was something common like a slipped disc or a pinched nerve because I had been processing firewood a few days prior. Never in a million years would I have guessed that my life was getting ready to change forever. Steemit has been a blessing to me and helps with the depression that comes along with the disease because I have met a lot of good people here and it helps to vent or talk about things I would normally not talk about to people I know, much less strangers lol. Anyway, enough running my mouth which once I get started it's hard to stop it. Congratulations on your achievement for quitting smoking also! I have often wondered if smoking had something to do with my MS but then again, there are many people that have MS that have never smoked before. I've been exposed to extreme black mold in the past which could be a link as well. Or it could have happened due to my eating habits which is another theory. Last but certainly not least, I've had my ol' noggin hit extremely hard in the past and there are some theories that suggest that serious head injuries can cause it, so who knows?
Please check out Dr. Robert Morse on Youtube. He has 100's of videos. He cures MS and more. His knowledge and wisdom is a gift to humanity.
I will definitely look him up, thanks for the advice! Although there is no cure for the disease, there have been several people that have put their disease in to remission just by changing their diet. It blows my mind that as far as we have come in this world with technology and medicine that a cure can't be found. They can't find a cure but they can sure find and make drugs that may or may not treat the disease. My main MS drug costs 10 thousand dollars a month so it's hard for me to believe that the pharmaceutical companies really want a cure found. But lets not get started on that topic and get me wound up lol. But thanks again, I'm getting ready to watch on of his videos now.

Awesome ! thank You !
Same here @bluelightbandit I suffer from Meniere's Disease, an auto-immune disorder like MS. Taking much better health-wise is important for me.
Since starting my own herb garden and vegetable garden and eating MY food, I have noticed a difference in my 'episodes'- which are less frequent and I take less medication for the disease.
Very good to hear that! Anything to make bad things worse is a huge benefit!
I'm not familiar with that disease but I will definitely look it up. Congratulations on bettering your quality of life, I believe you're on the right track! A lady that I met on here, @rebeccaryan, has helped me a lot with changing the way I eat because she has MS also and has put her disease in to remission by eating a certain way and medicating with cannabis.
This is beautiful. I'm going to start living healthy the homestead way. Thanks @papa-pepper
Healthy choices you are making for you and your family. Great that you can do it and still stay in touch with the digital world :)
Lol, if it wasn't for Steemit, I wouldn't!
I figured!
another great video, my friend. I generally stick to a special diet which is perhaps unusual, but to me at least makes sense. i try to only eat things that are alive. Meaning . . . if I can replant the vegetable, like an onion or potato, and it keeps growing, it has a life force in it. It is the life force i concentrate on.
Oyster, cavair, eggs, etc still have that life force. I also add to it what keeps these life forces alive, like milk, honey, fruit juices, etc. By absorbing life you stay live, but eating that which is dead you invite destruction. I hope you do not consider me to weird for sharing, my friend. Looking at nature, a deer in the forest never eats what is on the ground, but only what it picks. Top predators, like big cats, or even small foxes never eat cold dead meat. I hope this makes sense, my friend.
Very interesting look at things. I get where you're coming from.
I thought you might. Keep up with the videos my friend
As usual, great post!
A wonderful advocacy for healthy food and outdoor living!
Thanks man!
I can attest to this. Since moving to the country and working on the homestead, I'm healthier now than I was 10 years ago. That's really saying something because I'm 64.
Wow! Great move.
Hey, @papa-pepper! I would have to agree, homesteading is a way to be healthier. Better food, fresh air, exercise and the exposure to bacteria. We seem to be a lot healthier since we moved to the homestead. No colds, no flu, no anything! Touch wood as my grandma would say, we haven't needed a doctor in many years...
Glad to hear it!
Just the food you grow yourself is a great start to a healthier life.
Absolutely!
wow youre really cool @papa-pepper lets take care of the nature and the nature in return will take care of us this post might also interest you, you can visit it sir if you like https://steemit.com/homesteading/@julstamban/5vkzha-what-are-the-benefits-of-lemon-grass-or-tanglad-or-homesteading-101
We are pulling our permits tomorrow all of our red tape is taken care of now. Soon I will have my dream of growing and raising most of our food. I am so excited.
Very cool! Exciting times!
it really is. I wish we wasn't on a short time frame so we could really do what we want and save even more money but it is what it is. Never thought I would need to ask my landlord do you have a restrictive FHA, does your mortgage allow you to rent out your home? Sucks that we now are rushing to finish our house we were told we would get to stay till our house was done. We have been here for nearly 4 years to find out we have 30-60 days before we have to be out if we are lucky we may have a little longer. The house is suppose to be done by the first week of November we will see, I am so worried about being homeless even for a week (though we would be able to stay with friends or family or even a hotel room, but I don't want to do that not after the money we have spent already)
you just keep motivating me with your videos. are you planning on increasing your pigs. would have loved to dash out a piglet but you are far away
Thanks for motivation @papa-pepper....
I like your video. Hahahah awesome. I have same video too. Hahah. Good luck sur.
Health Is Wealth
Yes, you nailed it. Homesteading provides the optimum environment for the health of mind, body and spirit.
