Hi, my name is Shaun and this is my introductory post on the first day of 2018.
i'm a qualified electrical and mechanical engineer originally from England and now living on South Australia.
i'm an avid carp fishing freak with over 40 years fishing experience and occasionally teach people how to fish correctly.
i also enjoy bow hunting - with my Martin Alien Rytera - strictly to put food on the table only - no waste.
And i'm constantly seeking better ways to improve my self sufficiency and homesteading quality of life.
i have an extensive knowledge of law - used for self protection from fraudulent government agencies and people that don't know the difference between legal and lawful..

Hi, welcome to Team Australia!
Thanks matey - great to be part of the team :)
A very warm welcome to Steemit Shaun! :)
Thankyou :)
My buck's night was a camping/fishing weekend trip on the Murray.
Didn't catch anything.
We were using corn, because we heard that's good, but I think the fish were either not biting, or just not there.
We're heading up to Lake Bonney soon, and pulling in a big carp like that would be cool for the kids.
Any tips?
Hi Matt - the fish are always there - corns mainly a visual bait for the carp at your planned destination and works ok for the small fish up to 10lb or so in shallow water.
Don't use hooks that are too large - size 6 is the largest you want to use.
Don't use line that is too heavy - 6lb - 10lb max
Get some breadcrumbs from the local supermarket and mix a tin of corn with it to make a stiff paste - mould around the lead you use. fist size.
cast to the same spot repeatedly whilst fishing and the fish will come to you.
If you want to catch 20lb+ fish you will need a different set-up and different bait..
i fish vegimite boilies on a combi link rig for fish over 20lb all uk fishing gear and different set ups again for fish over 30lb and 40lb. Simple sandwich bread can be a great bait too.
Hope this helps - let me know how you go :)
Thanks Shaun. I'll do that, and let you know how I go :)

That's a decent sized fish O_O
Thank you for the reply. Nag him until he gives in. Use emotional blackmail. Tell him no nookie until he joins. i'm sure you can find a way to entice him to join the steemit folks. i'm sure he will have fun and enjoy.
Good stuff. Always happy to read a fishing or bowhunting story.
Thanks bud. Apart from several rabbit hunting trips and two trips to Broken Hill goat hunting, i don,t have many stories and no photos to show. i eat what i catch and a goat can last me 6 months in the freezer as none of the family like eating goat.
Not to change the subject, but how bad are the snakes when you hunt or hike. Seems like that would be more than a little concern?
Snakes are seen on most trips, mainly Red Bellied Blacks as i'm usually close to water,
and a few Brown's but i don't react with fear like most. As i'm usually still and quiet, they will have a look around and usually move on unless they want my bait and then they can hang around. Only ever had problems with one small brown around 12 inch long biting at my boots up at Blanche-town. Had to throw a cup of cold water on him to make him leave. Show them some respect whilst your in their home and things are sweet.
Yikes, I know that those are some bad snakes. That would definitely add some perspective to a fishing trip. Snakes don't usually bother me, but those kind would. Spiders are actually my greatest fear...
Hey a Fellow south aussie! i do a bit of Duck hunting on lake Alexandrina, such an awesome spot! Great carp too!
Are you shooting around Tolderol game reserve? if i'm not at Point Sturt, i spend time down there behind the rods hiding in the reeds. i tend to stay away in duck hunting season due to the fact i don't feel safe. Went down a few weeks ago for a look, you now have to pay $15 to stay the night and book in advance!
Not far from it, I'm lucky enough to have some private property around the place to shoot from.
Its a good spot in there though, plenty of bloody reeds to keep you covered! Thats a fair call about staying away but if they're shooting into the reeds they shouldnt own a firearm.
and if we have to pay 15 dollars to stay in the area and keep it open to game hunters and fishers, i say money well spent!
Wow it is a huge carp : ) @realtreebivvy vote up~
I am also hunter but this fish is very big in this cast of fish love it very nice and delicious in eat..♥♥
