Yes it is, I would consider myself an enlightened pharmacist. Semi retired, basically due to economic reasons, not sure if I will keep my license. I maybe would have kept going if Iowa would have done something with MMJ but they are so backward. Iowa has had the ok for MMJ For a few years but nothing in place to allow people access. It looks like actual pharmacies will dispense but only so many and high application non- refundable fees and then there is the issue of supply and only so many growers. Ok , you opened up a can of worms. I'll stop. Thanks again for all you do

Oh my goodness, you are more than welcome. Is your shop a pharmacy and a Christian store?
I'm so sorry to learn this about medical cannabis in Iowa. The plant can do so much good for both people and animals. We so disparately need people who have the knowledge to help people integrate the plant medicine into their lives. One of the hardest pieces is to understand how cannabis will interact with other prescription drugs. We need so much help in this department. No one seems to know or is willing to share what they think. Most times I feel like those folks on multiple meds are left to their own devices when they want to try cannabis.

It definitely could be a challenge. The pharmacy I started in 1982, and about 2 years ago I just got tired of filling someone's prescription and not even being reimbursed for the cost of the medicine. i.e. Something costs me $100. I fill the script and it runs through the insurance, and the insurance company reimburses me $96 and that doesn't even cover my overhead let alone a profit. It's a big business thing. Really just crony capitalism. So 2 yrs ago I stopped taking insurance and lost about 75% of my customers. I saw the writing on the wall and since pharmacy was my passion I hung on longer than I should have.
Anyhow I totally quit December 31, 2016 went on an extended vacation and we decided to do the Christian gift store/book store/nutritional combo. We have a small town, so not sure how it's gonna go, but if we can make some passive income we will do fine.
Re the cannabis thing, if I wouldn't have to go back to school, I could see going into research, but it is such a political thing. Which is why I feel sorry for you and having to get your grow permit.

Well, I wasn't forced to grow, but wanted to, just so I could have some control over the strains I can ingest and how the plants are cared for.
I was diagnosed with MS in 2004. Never went on any pharmaceuticals. I had a few episodes then found out about cannabis, started eating it, drastically changed my eating lifestyle and I haven't had an attack since.
I suspect an aggressive strain or strains of gut bacteria as the root cause.
I wonder if you could start an on-line cannabis consulting business. There are so many people with multiple prescriptions and no one really knows how cannabis will interact with them. I normally suggest that people should put 4 hours between when they take their prescriptions and use cannabis. There's no guidance being offered. It's the same with other medications for pain. There is no guidance for a person to ween off their pain med cocktails and switch to cannabis. People are just muddling along on their own. This concerns me greatly.

I can see that it would be a concern for many people. The thing that I'd be doing is working for getting rid of as many pharmaceuticals as possible. The other thing is that the pharmaceutical companies have the research dollars and that's probably not a high priority.
So would you say your diet was pretty clean, unprocessed foods. The reason I ask is. Because there is a doctor from Iowa city that got ms and she developed a pretty rigid protocol and was able to Cure her ms. I bought her book to share with a ms customer. I'll have to look it up, it just seemed like such an extremely rigid diet.

Yes. It was fairly clean...I was eating low carb and working to keep my blood sugar levels more consistent but it wasn't until I gave up all grains, rice and a lot of startchy foods that I really felt that my system stabilized. I have been following Dr. Wahls protocol and have read her books.
It is very regimented but my eye sight and my ability to walk are more important to me than being able to eat bread and pasta. ;)

So true.

http://terrywahls.com The wahls protocol. Have you heard of it?

Yes. I have been following her guidance since 2011. Between cannabis and healing my gut lining, plus keeping it healthy by not eating foods that damage it, I've been able to slow down the disease process.

@rebeccaryan, hey that is great. So are you able to do everything she says in her protocol. I just remember when she was on a popular radio show here in Iowa and I ordered her book right away for someone I knew that was diagnosed . I'm not sure if she benefited as she moved from the area.

and healing my gut lining

This is such a big thing these days. The gut micro biome . I tell you that the medical profession has done such a crappy job of promoting wellness. Of course, we don't want you to get well, because then how would we be able to sell you a drug. I've seen this so many times in my 35 yrs of pharmacy. I would like to see a minimal pharmacy. I don't know how many times I talked to patients and recommend that they not get a script filled. It was a tough thing to do, as you never knew when a Doctor would find out about it and turn you in to either Medical or Pharmacy board.

I'm gonna just throw out a couple of things, and more than likely you are aware of them, but if not... or if you are aware of them and you have negatives about them, I'd welcome your thoughts.

Weston Price Foundation
Bone Broth
GAPS Diet

I'm guessing you are taking some kind of probiotic, or fermented whole foods.

Changing subjects, How long have you been a Massage Therapist?
I've got some stories. My mom was a Registered Nurse who towards the end of here nursing career became associated with a chiropractor here in Iowa and started a School of Massage Therapy. She ran it for 3 or 4 years and then regulations started to rear their ugly head. It was NOT a diploma mill type school. She has dozens of students that continue to practice.
Anyhow, thanks for the reply. Sorry for the long reply back.
