Twillie, Lebo M. - The Lion King - Circle Of Life
Wellness is like a bridge that supports two very large continents. If your Primary Food is not meeting the 12 areas of the Circle of Life than it doesn't matter what you put on your plate. Secondary food is actually is the food we choose to eat.
The first continent, Primary Food consists of 12 Circles of Life. Lets do some inventory.
The balance within your Primary Food / Circle of Life can be a greater influence in your life than your Secondary Food (what you put on your plate). Lets look at some positive and negatives in Primary Food which can help sabatoge the food we eat.
The positive Example:
Career- The career you have chosen is to be a Research Scientist. Every morning the alarm clock goes off and you leap out of bed and fly into your closet in elation to find something to wear. You sing and dance your way to the kitchen and pick out a healthy hot tea to drink and sit down and meditate for 10 minutes on what you will be experimenting on for the day. Then you eat a smart choice meal and joyfully hop in your car as you listen to, Mozart - Violin Sonata No. 17 in C major, K. 296 on the way to drop off your 10 year old and 14 year old that are giggling in the back seat of the car telling each other how much they love each other. You promptly get off work at 5pm and head straight to the gym to do your favorite exercise routine and the man of your dreams/husband has made a gourmet vegan meal and the whole family raves on how delicious it tastes. Then we are off to bed for a full 8 hours of sleep but not before talking to our best friend on the phone for 30 minutes and laugh at how you dropped your petri dish on the floor and everyone had to evacuate the building because of possible contamination. What a spectacular beautiful day!
The Negative Example:
The alarm sounds off at 5:30am. Another day at the worst place you could possibly imagine to work. You recently were written up for not completing a work assignment in the ridiculously short period of time given to complete. The last raise you got was five years ago. Your marriage is on the rocks and you literally drag yourself into the shower. As the water falls over your head you weep tears of pity and blame. As you walk down the stairs the 14 year old and 10 year old are fighting about personal space and who gets to sit in the front seat on the way to school. All you want to listen to is NUMB by Linkin Park, but wait at least until your self entitled children get out of the car. You don't realize it but you are speeding and are pulled over and given a speeding ticket. Awesome, now your late to your job.
These are definitely exagerated Positives and Negatives. I certainly don't know anything about being a research scientist but in my head I think it would be rediculously cool job. Again, this is not a good way to look at life or our lifestyles.
Everyone makes both good and bad lifestyle choices. You may make the choices you do because of learned habits, stress, exhaustion and even timeliness. To live a healthy lifestyle you need to have a nutrient-rich diet, moderate exercise each week, get enough rest and avoid products that can lead to unhealthy habits.
Lifestyle is all about balance and its not an easy accomplishment or is it ever perfect? No! Perfection is a product. What we need to do is strive for Excellence because this is a Process which means we are alway open to new ways to learn and balance our lives.
How you view your life.
How do you see your life unfolding and how would you like it to be?
Are there particular goals or changes that you would like to focus on?
How would your life be different if you were to achieve your goals?
This is just a start in tackling our Primary Food. I am actually in the stage of learning myself.
Today I am not even going to tackle Secondary Food. Bio-Individuality. We are all different. There is no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to diet and nutrition. I will tackle the 100 dietary theories in a later blog. Let me know what you think? Hope you have a fantastic Tuesday!
Nice post. Years back in high school,we were always told to do to the left hand whatever you do to the right hand and I believe its for the sake of balance..
Life is all about balance cos that why whatever that goes up comes down inorder to ascertain balance. If we should do more of the social, leaving behind the health or family aspect,it will definetly hunt us just like the negative example where her marriage is on the rocks.
And to enable this balance, one has to accept his/herself,dont play blame games and thats when ones life start being different and goals being achieved
True story @udembahenry! Its a hard feet to overcome pity, blame, and shame. We have to unfreeze ourselves and walk toward responsibility of our lives....Gosh I am so trying to unlearn and learn at the same time if this makes sense! (:
Exactly ma'am. It's hard to overcome pity and blame, that's why I try as much as possible to impact on any kid I see, correct them on the mistakes I've made that brought me pity, blame and shame. More importantly, try to make their minds flexible enough in order for them to easily unlearn whatever they think isn't good for them.
By doing this, I overcome self pity and blame. I also learn in the process.
Maybe you could try this out. It works for me. It might work for someone else
This is absolutely true..
Life itself is a balance created by God
Just like using a machine consistently..
It would break down if not properly handled..
Today I learnt about recreation and fun and how they are basic needs not a luxury ..
Then seeing this post just confirmed a lot of things I heard ..
As young minds.. we are constantly under pressure.. this could cause imbalance because we tend then to prioritize what ever has more pressure..
Making your diet, your quiet times, your sleep , your fun time look unimportant or unnecessary..
I agree with you. That's why the rich who understand the importance of balance sometimes leave on a vacation, maybe in a tourist center where they ease stress and maintain balance to avoid suddenly breaking down
Balance is everything, most times we tend to prioritize certain things over some other things. When we should have like a set of primary goals and give them all the same level of attention.
For instance, I’m a student and I sometimes get over concerned with my academic work and forget to also work on the other things like my diet, exercise etc. weeks like that end up being my worst, I fall sick most times.
But just like you said it’s always a process, constantly checking up in our selves and making improvements as we move along. It’s more in the process than the end product.
@tudors exactly! Our whole family recently fell sick and it was lack of balance. Plain and simple. Its hard to do but as long as we don't strive for perfection and enjoy our process of improvement we will reap the benefits! Thank you for reading! (:
So true, i believe balance could be attained by proper prioritization between work or career and lifestyle which include health, pleasure and family.
True.
Also, although Perfection can be the utmost goal,
We should be more concerned with our regular day to day activities and the direct effect it has on us, learning and improving one step at a time.
@tudors, you have said it all. To achieve balance in life, I believe we don't have to see one aspect of our lives more important than the other.
I agree, our life choices are influenced by external constraints like the onces mentioned which are stress, timeliness, bad habits and exhaustion
@chukwunalu you are so right! Many cultures and especially the American one I live in, Push and Push until we are at complete exhaustion and depleted all our good vitamins and nutrients from pure stress and lack of sleep and rest! (:
Its the same scenario here in africa too.
Saw this and thought you were a microbiologist.

I’m a microbiology university student.
Hope you had a great day.
And I am assuming as a student you get no sleep! When I was at my university I had no sleep so I feel for you but you are studying great things!
Ha! You know it all. Thanks for your concern.
Hope to come to your part of the world soon, to access more equipment and gain wider knowledge and exposure.
So interesting! My next life maybe I can be a microbiologist(: I will definitely check out your sight....Hmmmm I just had a conversation last night about immunization! How timely and this will help me in some decisions we have to make with our 15 month old!!! (:
Congratulations with your baby.. saw this comment and I got interested.. immunization is all positive especially when carried out by properly trained personnel .. basic necessity for your child and you..
for a 15month old child( in Nigeria 🇳🇬) , the baby should be immunized against DTP and OPv. DTP stands for diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis.. it is actually a multi dose vaccine that helps against those three diseases..
While OPV which might not be common outside Nigeria refers to vaccines against polio virus.
What are the studies around Autism and immunization? I know I am referring to a different country but recently I believe where we live additional vaccines have been added and some parents are concerned with what the child is actually getting? I am not in the immunization area but I would like some feedback on what you know about other countries and the requirements for vaccinations and how they have changed in the last 10 or 15 years? Good subject matter(:
Autism is just beginning to get attention here, before now it was never considered a major issue. Except by NGOs and a few enlightened individuals.
Researches on autism is still in its earliest stage.
I’m sure you’ll be a great one.
That shouldn’t be a problem, you should get registered at your hospital for post-natal care (if you haven’t ) and the adequate personnel will fill you in.
