Steemit the school of trial and error!!

in #life8 years ago

crazymumzy - dragonslayer109 - gavvet. Nothing sensational, only the facts.

I am grateful to see that the robinhoodwhale was able to come to live based on watching the trail and errors by other Authors featuring over the past few months. The group actually used their time productively and came up with the robinhoodwhale initiative, another solution helping new authors to stay active on this platform. Will this system be flawless, only time will tell?

Here are the behind the scene info for the sensation seekers:

About 3 months ago my ex gavvet told me about steemit, well I thought, “ok” it is one of those wonderful ideas of his again which will soak up all his time and get him nowhere. Nothing new after knowing the man for 26 years. Then 2 months ago my 19-year-old son came with the proof that steemit actually works for real, after I told him to stop wasting his time and rather concentrate on studying and getting a real job/life of course.

Both him and his dad approached the dilemma steemit was facing of good authors not being recognized by implementing 2 very different ways of getting the unknown Authors articles noticed. Still very skeptical I took a look and sat educating myself reading most of the incoming articles each day for two weeks. It saddened me to see how many authors poured their hearts out in so many articles not receiving a dime as a reward for their effort.

Knowing I was out of my league, firstly because English is my second language and secondly creative writing was never my forte, I approached the big ocean of steemit which was intimidating as it was growing by a 1000 new members per day at that time. I decided that I would also like to be part of this team, giving more authors exposure and that was my main aim thus far.

Yes, my setup was filled with flaws due to lack of time as a mother of 4 children available to spend on steemit. I tried to avoid featuring plagiarized material by taking paragraphs from these authors articles and googling it, I knew it wasn’t enough but that was the only tool I had unfortunately. Well, I got burnt, not only by new authors but also by those who knew better and I trusted, thinking they can become part of this team and we will be able to reach even more unknown authors.

During these past two months I had to sit and look how my son and ex got slandered and it saddened me because no one knows the real story of gavvet and some of the authors he features, I do. As a very protective mother and person, I often wanted to climb in and say something but it was not my call. Today I decided to speak out. Facing being even more unpopular with gavvet as he is a very private person. (Luckily he has to forgive me because I have his children.)

My son dragonslayer109, came up with “The daily pick of hidden gems” when his dad told him he must come up with his own niche to be able to get recognized. This was his baby which he nurtured every day by sitting in front of his computer from morning till night time, scratching for good articles every day to feature. He has to answer all the people who beg him to feature them and then still write his own article or get other Authors articles ready to feature. He also tries to promote his authors work on the chat channels. This takes up most of his time, daily. Is his approach flawed?, sure he is a young man and is doing the best he can and know-how with very little experience. Just like this site being in beta phase so is dragonslayer109.

My ex gavvet might have many flaws but I have always admired his charitable heart (which costs this family dearly). Over the years he has helped many people when he couldn’t even really help himself and got burnt by all of them, so much so that he has nothing today. So if you think he is rich, you are so wrong and he won’t be for quite a while even though you might think he is making a killing here on steemit. He has a few authors that can vouch for this because they know him from church. If you think he is a fraud, go educate yourself please, because all the authors he features are real and some of them have a sad story to tell.

The motto of this story is:

  1. There is nothing to hide or vindictive about this family, sorry to disappoint you.
  2. Don’t be too quick to judge, and before doing so go get your facts straight by educating yourself.
  3. There are still good and honest people in this world who wants to help others.
  4. One thing you must know: We do not give up this easily, there are too many counting on us.

PS: you will still probably look for ways to find fault, criticize and get your sensation for the day, at least we give some entertainment value to this site, enjoy!!!

Thank you for your support everyone. Me as an South African living in a country which is rotten with corruption and crime should know how difficult it is to trust and not question everything, so I do not blame you.

Condra you raised valid questions which I agree needs answers. I respect you trying to control plagiarism which has become a huge plague on steemit and you have my support.

  1. You asked why we feature an Author more than once? Those that have been on this platform for a long time would know that featuring a person once won't do much to gain followers. I myself have grown only with about 5 followers per day while featuring other authors. I will leave the math up to you on how many times a person needs to be featured.

  2. Why we all feature the same author? This has been a concern of mine too as I felt there are no loyalty but once again, my following base is minute against the others so I grant them the opportunity to be exposed to a greater audience. This will enable them to go on their own.

  3. Some of the other authors we have featured more than once are in need of the money as I am sure most are here on steemit, that the reason why so many do not mind us taking the steempower and giving them the steemdollars. I was and still am one of them.

  4. Johnnyyash, I thought was a reputable author as many of us featured his work. Once again whatever the reason we all fail in something at some time. I did last night by not checking his article before posting it same as for sumee. I always check my authors blogs to see if there was any flagging and what material they post but with him I did not, but in all honesty I did not expect to spend so much time helping others as I am doing right now, so I had no system in place.

After all has been said and done: I am grateful though for what happened because we can all learn from it. I have time now to work out how to work systematically and fair. I will surely fail again but at least I am trying, more than I can say for most of the bigger authors.

Hope this will help

Thanks for responding. Good luck going forward.

Thank you condra the same to you.

Not a single one of your image credit links are valid, and they include nothing about the source of the images.

FLAGGED

Thank you for pointing that out bacchist, I didn't expect anything less from you. Actually you have just proven a fact about yourself.

Bacchist I was just looking at your posts to see how to do my image credits correctly and you have no links to your images only stating from what source they come, and most of your images doesn't have anything. Surly if you want to flag me for something like this then yours should be an example of how it is suppose to be done, don't you think.

@crazymumzya Thanks for the great post! I have been at it for just over a month now and used my saved steem SBD to buy a fanpage with over 4K likes to help promote author posts and create awareness for steemit. Unfortunately I have not had much support. If you would like more info please visit

Thanks

Never give up, just tweak the strategy a bit and get back in there.

I don't know about what others are saying or stating about featuring the authors.
The idea of featuring authors is amazing, it is helping out the minnows and authors who are giving their hearts out for posts but earning not even single dollar. The thing is when you see the quality of content which are not good enough and seems like just an article which is copy paste is trending with high payouts and the work that you have done for hours is ignored , it is depressing for ones who are new to platform.
Its not easy to take up 20-25 articles coming to you in 2 days span and looking for plagiarism on each story, but still they are working on it, sometimes some of the writers may slip on. Abuse team is there to inform that and flag that, Great! Do that. But what i saw is the idea is being attacked on personal level and I feel very sad about it.
These guys here is actually making change in people lives by doing that. They are actually helping out new authors a reputation here.
My first cashout amount was used to help a child who was 6 years old and have no money to study, but now he can study for more than 5 years along with good fund aside in my country. Thats how important it is.
No matter what, ill be very thankful to you @crazymumzysa and @gavvet.
Keep up the good work.
Wish you Good luck.

You have hit the nail right on the head. I dont think anyone else has helped new good writers as much as this family has.

I would say yes some people took advantage of their kindness its because of them now everyone will suffer.

Exactly they have been doing so much for new authors.

Sometimes it does happen some of articles do slip ons, but that was not intented right? The intention is to reward the author by using the reputation they have. The good content should be noticed on platform.
And I dont think they should stop here. Its a great initiative and it should grow as the platform grows.

yes fingers crossed I am sure we will get the good news soon.

Yea.
Solving the issue of plagiarism is good point to discuss on but because of such people we should not get down.

One thing you must know : We do not give up this easily, there are too many counting on us.

As said by crazymumzysa.
So, ya lets hope for best.

seems to me that two things happen when people make money, especially money from providing exposure to other peoples work. The person doing so gets encouragement or jealousy and envy raises it's ugly head. The latter happened here. There were some who objected because they were making money by curating other content.

To me, if a person builds a following and takes the time to curate content to bring it to the attention of others then it adds value. My personal policy is that I upvote the person providing the links and I upvote the authors, provided I agree the author has written a quality post. There are some days, if I don't find the links all that much quality that I don't upvote the curator.

Some of those who were upset over them making the money were people who had been featured and didn't get any gain from it. I personally suspect maybe their work wasn't all that good to start with and it's easier to blame someone else for their lack of success.

On point.

I dont see anything bad about this getting featured thing.

I hope this post will finally bring an end to all the hatred, criticism is ok, but "witch hunt" and "conspiracy theories" are a totally different realm...

Yeah, I can relate. I tried doing a gems-type thing with bee-related posts (https://steemit.com/bees/@jwaser/the-weekly-bee-29-august-2016) and got my face ripped off apparently because a couple people didn't realize that the titles linked directly to their posts . . . .

Maybe I could have been clearer or whatever -- but I did it exactly the way in which I see it all over the internet. I would have made ANY changes that anyone requested -- but NOOOOO people just have to assume the worst and rip me aw new one. So -- the Weekly Bee shall appear no more and any missed bee posts will drown in obscurity. :-(

Thanks for this I hope to get it soon lol! I am dyslexic and the past month has been tough but I refuse to give up! Thanks for this

I watched operation of curators from @gavvet, and others, those to whom it helped and made them curators - and I want to tell that it is responsible people, they help others, fairly and without allowing Google or plagiarism, they help community to become better, they bring closer it to utopian ideals, thank you for your operation! As well as thanks to higher curators and all who supports this operation
And envy does bad things with people...

yes . agred, but to succeed in life ,you have to be persistence in life. sometime it not all we put our heart into that rewards us with suceess, but i still agreed that they still need to finetune the way content are rewarded

Hi @crazymumzysa, this is the first time I knew that the 3 of you are related. I hope someday I can be one of the team.

English is my second langauge too , it's a little intimating to publish my post amidst quality content like yours. But if you can make it so can I. Thank you for everything, you guys are doing a wonderful job , not only for this platform but for everyone involved in it.

@crazymumzysa.

I've been one of your more vocal critics, but have always been prepared to give anyone the benefit of the doubt. I've no reason not to believe you are not who you say you are or attack you "as a person". Also, for what it's worth, personally, I'm not against the 50% payment system for promoted content, something others have been very critical of.

However I will continue to draw attention to suspicious activity when I see it.

You have not addressed much of the conspicuous baggage that surrounds your activity, such as heavily supporting johnnyyash account, alongside gavvet and dragon.
https://steemit.com/@johnnyyash/transfers

There are other accounts who have been featured by all 3 of you, despite the abundance of under-appreciated accounts out there. At best, one could say it really doesn't look good.

You've also promoted plagiarism by johnnyyash account and others, and promoted new accounts with no track record, that seem to have sprung up out of thin air, such as sumee1313.

If you are who you say you are, and want to do what you say you want to do, I suggest you set up a rigorous vetting system, and be more consistent and transparent in your activity.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I was surprised to see all three of you are related, but i really appreciate the way you three promoted new authors. It is really sad to see that you are going through this situation, in spite of all the hard work which you three have done during this period. I hope for the best and would love to see smile back on your faces and believe that all hard work will be paid off.

you keep telling it like it is
