One of the applications of blockchain technology is the ability to make cross-boarder payment / remittances with ease, without a trusted third party. We all know that many Steemians are still trying to find a solution to spend their steem/SBDs like they would fiat currency outside the virtual and crytocurrency world. The easiest way to spend steem would be to have steem debit/credit card like @stellabelle wrote about in her blog post- 3 Reasons We Need A Steemit Debit Card Now: Let's Do This Before Nexus Social Does. Another Steemian whom I know has a similar dream to @stellabelle's is @oluwoleolaide. He blogged about his fifth steemit fantasy, a steem powered debit card in My Top 5 Ultimate Steemit Fantasies . I also have that dream, since there wouldn't be any need to first convert steem/SBDs to bitcoins (BTC) using bittrex or blocktrades and then from BTC to fiat. While we are still waiting for that miracle to happen sooner or later, remittances would still have to be done. This is where we need to trust human third parties , especially for Steemians living in diaspora, who need to remit money home for very important purposes. Financial integrity of the Steemian (3rd party) is tested.
Financial Integrity

Financial integrity has to do with honesty and transparency in handling money related affairs. Top management officers, directors, pretty much anyone in some form of governance who is accountable to his organisation/state /country would have to manage the financial resources of the organisation, where he is the head. Unfortunately, very many have soiled their hands in misappropriation of personal and public funds. That is not the case with my personal experience, working for both government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), where I had to manage money for executing projects (mainly health projects).
Team Lead In Zamfara and Lagos State
As one who led a team on two different occasions to Zamfara and Lagos state to execute Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) and HIV/AIDS Prevention & Care Project, honorarium (about half a million Naira/5,000 USD equivalent) for team members was entrusted to my care. Please note that value of Nigeria Naira to the US dollars then was about 1UDS/110 NGN. Mr. Joshua Andi Emmanuel (fondly called Uncle Josh), the project officer for UNICEF, Nigeria (2002-2007) can attest to the fact that I was held accountable to deliver on the expected outcomes of the project including paying honorarium to all team members. After presentation of project report from the field (National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, orientation camp) during a debriefing meeting, alongside other team leaders, to the project management officers. That was when team leaders got their own honorarium. What a beautiful plan that was!
@oluwoleolaide, Exchanged Steem Blockchain Dollars (SBDs) And Steem For Nigeria Naira
My mother's birthday was 2 days ago (11th of October). That day also happened to be the very day that was slated for the defense of her doctoral thesis (semi-final stage). So, my mum told me of the budget for entertainment of those who would attend her defense. I had to quickly transfer inform @oluwoleolaide to help me exchange 25 SBDs for Nigeria naira (NGN ) and credit my mother's account with it. He executed the task very swiftly. My mum called as soon as she got the alert of 5,230 NGN from her bank through @oluwoleolaide. The joy I felt was great that I was able to contribute financially to my mother's semi-final stage defense of her doctoral thesis. By the way, the defense of my mum's thesis was very successful. I can't wait for the final stage!
Again, yesterday morning, @oluwoleolaide proved his financial integrity by helping me exchange 100 steem for Nigeria naira . The purpose for exchanging steem for fiat is to book for hotel accommodation (2nd & 3rd, November, 2017) at Hotel de Treasure (Executive comfort rooms) for 2 beneficiaries of @redfishpillar's ticket to the upcoming Steemit In Nigeria (SIN) conference. Confirmation of received funds have long been made by @gbenga. He will be doing the hotel booking today, since he is in charge of that aspect of the event. All screenshots of transactions are saved for reference purposes and I must confess that my level of trust and confidence in @oluwoleolaide's financial integrity is increasing. This is how people leave good legacies for posterity to benefit from. Thank you @oluwoleolaide for being trustworthy.
I would like to quicky sieze this opportunity to thank @surpassinggoogle for loving my mama and sending 25 SBDs as a birthday gift to my mum. My sincere gratitude also go to @honourmaus who sent 5 steem as birthday gift to my mum. The money will be exchanged to Nigeria naira (NGN) and remitted to her. I convey my mother's gratitude to you all for your birthday messages and goodwill for the success of her academic defense. Thanks a million!!!
Let me acknowledge that @oluwoleolaide and @sweetestglo-eu have supported the sponsorship of @sussan and @honourmaus to SIN conference with 20 steem and 4 steem respectively. Thank you very much. More support is needed. Please, see the budget here.
My question to you is can you be trusted with money? Do you have financial integrity? These are questions that you might want to share as comments in the reply section.
An original photograph of me (wearing a black jacket, standing a little to the right) in Berlin-Germany (September, 2012).
@oluwoleolaide is a good person
Contrary to the saying Good people are scares, I say Good People are not scares
The Fact is, the goodness of people is in everyone but selected few choose to do good...
If You ask me why... Firstly, when it comes to the financial aspect... Greediness is the cause of bad behavior, Many people are too self-centered which makes me ask the question.... WHY?, CAN'T WE ALL BE A MORALIST?..... Well, Many are
Also from your line Ma,
Most people don't even care about integrity....CHAI!!! I wish they can read (48 Laws of Power) integrity is said to be guarded with your life... Or what is the value of someone with low esteem?.
But this I'll never do
Congrats Captain Philip for the proven integrity
Hello @maryfavour
Firstly, i want to congratulate your mother for making her second stage a successful one. Am still amazed,if your mother is still committed to learning and some youth out there have relaxed and tired of learning. Am highly motivated.
I also congratulate your mother on her Birthday as God added another golden year to her years, wishing her a stressfree and fulfiled life ahead.
In addition, i really commend the effort of @oluwoleolaide for his proof of integrity.
You are a wonderful woman and you deserve the best treat @maryfavour
Your efforts in steemit community is highly appreciated ma.
@maintain4real-eu
@mayfavour you remind me of the recent Kwese Inc Entrepreneurs Town hall meeting where Strive Masiyiwa said and I quote" There's a mystery to capital which I want to share with you .Integrity is the greatest capital thre is. It's the greatest capital and and once you get that into your system people will deal with you and they know that you are willing to walk away. example you cannot deal with American business today
because of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act if there is a whiff of corruption around you. It doesn't matter how much money you have. all these major countries are passing corruption laws so you just take integrity and say you know what I'm going to make this my currency and you
will be amazed what you can do with it .it's more important than having cash in the bank. That's just the way it is."
waw your effort s really commendable @maryfavour, am happy for your mum as well and a big congrats to her... very amazing that you all love education this much.
For the S.I.N I want to personally thank you for your contributions and hope to meet you one day, you are a very wonderful person. Please keep up the good work.
@oluwoleolaide am very happyt you keep your integrity intact as that is speaking well for you, am glad that there are people that are still to be trusted. well done to you.
I wish we can see those days again.
Congrats on your mum's semifinal defense. I cant wait to see her doing the final lap. She is a great person.
The exchange by @oluwoleolaide is a great prove of integrity. I am happy he delivered. I do refer to him as a brother at the other side.
In addition there are two programme that I know for changing sbd or steem to naira, @airhawk-project and @steemnaira. Any one can check them out. I have witness @airhawk-project changing steem/sbd to naira through their escrow initiative.
You can check their wallet for some transactions.
Well financial test is what I have used to screen some friends.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
Same here, @turpsy. I wish I could see those days again or even better days when my dad told me that the value of naira to the USD was 1/0.75.
Thanks for the goodwill for my mum. Yes, the final one will be when all of us can now be free to officially address her as Dr. (Mrs.) Mary. O. Aburime. It's long overdue. My mum is a great woman indeed. We thank God for His mercies.
It's good to see that you refer to him as a brother on the other side. He is one person whom I can trust with money and not be afraid that I'll be scammed.
Thanks for sharing the information about @airhawk-project and @steemnaira. I've read about, @airhawk-project, but haven't used their service before. This is my first time of knowing about @steemnaira . I think @tojukaka is the one who runs that escrow service for @airhawk-project. I'll check out @steemnaira to see what they are doing there.
I like the way you ended your thoughts that
I really appreciate your sharing with us too.
Yes, well that title Dr (Mrs) Aburime is just days away. The @airhawk-project is not run by @tojukaka. The @airhawk-project started from telegram group of steemians. And they have almost 980 members. The @steemnaira is also great. Cheers.
Oh I'm sorry about the mistake. Where on earth did I get the notion that @tojukaka is the one who manages the escrow section of the @airhawk-project ? Thanks for correcting my misconception. I know about the large number of the group.
Hi ma @maryfavour glad you were able to convert your SBDs to cash when you needed them. Congrats also on mummy's milestone success. I am one of the 5 escrow members behind @airhwk-project and you can find a detailed "white paper" written for the project here,it was our third post on our blog. Well, one of our major goals is to make sure steemians get value fo their earned SBDs and one of such ways is through controling the exchange rates used per time. For example, we have not allowed any transactions below N310/SBD since the exchange of bitcoin to naira has not gone beyond say 340-365 since we opened for operation.
Haha! @Tojukaka is a great guy. He made a post about is and our project a while ago. He is one of the versatile Nigerians I know on steemit...lol. trust you'll checkout the post. We've had numerous successful transactions since after our launch and of cause, numerous satisfied customers.
Hello, @dorth. I appreciate the congratulatory message on my mum's success.
Oh, I didn't remember that there are 5 of you in the escrow team behind @airhawk-project !
This is very good for me to know that you exchange SBD's for Naira at N310/SBD. So, tell me, are you planning to for the escrow service @airhawk-project to be a for-profit or not-for profit venture? I'm just wondering how you would break even that this way, in case you are plan to make it a profitable venture. Assuming I was delivering this kind of service, I would make sure that I have at least half a million naira in my account to dole out to Steemians at the price you quoted. Then as soon as there i s a surge in price of BTC, I would sell to take profit.
It was actually through @tojukaka's post that I got to find out about @airhawk-project.
Thank you so much for the useful information, @dorth. Cheers.
@maryfavour.
Well, what we did ma @maryfavour was to set up a "buyer meets seller" market. We do not have any personal funds going into the project majorly. Only maybe we lobbied some crypto traders who could be available to buy the SBDs that'll be on offer. Then, we regulate the price by setting a range of 0.92 - 1.08 for the price of SBD per time so both parties could chose whichever favours them.
Well, our obligation is to connect buyer t seller, all we need is just for both parties to believe in the process which we have largely achieved if you check the transactions of the @airhark-project account (the movement in and out). The escrow is not getting any gratification as it stands, we take this as our own contribution to the steemit ecosystem as we believe it will encourage more persons onto steemit as they are not bothered with the headache of how to change their SBDs. Invariably, the SBDs won't look like some fictitious monies to them. It also would help them gradually understand the applicability of the blockchain which needs to be understood by all that crypto goes beyond just bitcoin.
The thing is most of us are members of one bitcoin exchange group or the other and we understand how these process can ease the exchange process. Thanks for visiting the post; and the upvote. Regards
Hello @turpsy
Thanks for this information. I never know of this two programs. That's very awesome. Will sure check them out.
@eurogee
Good morning ma,congratulation to your mum for success and happy birthday to her. kudos to all those that contributed to making her day awesome .
I am glad that you took out time to acknowledge generosity,most people only et trigerred if they had a negative result like getting duped.
About financial trust,my bank account was used to raise fund for my mum when she was fighting cancer and nothing got missing. Also i was nominated to be the financial sec of my department in school. Being honest is something we owe to people
Good day, my dear, @jeaniepearl.
I appreciate your good will for my mum and will convey the congratulatory message to her.
This is so true . We only get to know the negative things that people do to us generally. Honestly, I commit to acknowledging and appreciating people who do well. I could do business now with @oluwoleolaide and not be afraid of my money being swindled.
Yea. Financial integrity can only bring great oppurtunities. Thanks 5o @oluwoleolaide for being reliable especially for mama. Wishing her happy birthday in arears.
It's good to see you here, @cwen. I couldn't agree more that
Yes, I thank him too. Mama's prayers go with him. Thanks for the birthday wish for my mama. Enjoy!
Hell @maryfavour
The idea to have a steem/sbd debut card will be awesome. It will ease a lot of stress and risk involve in conversation to btc and also stop making btc relevance to the detriment of to other good cryptos that are currently bleeding at the coinmarketcap.com.
@oluwoleolaide is an exemplary Nigerian, trustworthy and very good at what he does. I respect him a lot.
Pass my congratulations to your mom for successful defense of her doctoral research thesis. At that age, you must be a beacon of hope for those who had given up on their academic pursuit. I am an example but I will sit up.
Thanks for sharing this post, and by the way the photos you got up there is cool.
@eurogee
Hello, @eurogee.
Thank you for taking time to read my post. Hopefully, someone will make our dreams come true and roll out steem debit cards. Well, for now it might be impossible to circumvent converting to BTC first, since it remains the strongest for now and is usually base pair for other cryptocurrencies. Even debit card companies will first exchange your steem to BTC and then to fiat. The only difference, I think, when you use debit/credit cards is that the hassle of going to the exchange yourself would be eliminated.
Yes, he is.
Surely, I will pass your congratulations to my mum for successful defenense of her doctoral research thesis.
My mum is the main reason why I am still in the struggle to get my doctorate degree. I would have given up due to the challenges. Please, I encourage you not to lose hope. Continue to focus on your dreams. You'll achieve them. Thanks for complementing my photo, your invaluable contribution and providing mentorship to #Euronation.
@maryfavour.
hey @maryfavour,
excellent post and nice photo view.thanks for sharing..upvoted
Hearty greetings for your mother Some SBD have been reduced in getting SBD. what. How can we work in it.
It's easy not to have financial integrity when you don't assume that people's money in your care should be spent. But some people have this twisted saying, "Money and a man is not supposed to be together."
They talk about the temptation of spending other people's money. This is something I don't understand, how someone can be tempted to spend a money that is not theirs in the first place. I don't just get it because I'm never tempted to spend money that ain't mine.
Not that I'm a Saint or something remotely resembling that, I don't see people's money in my care as something to be spent. But I could understand why my mother was the treasurer of up to 8 different organisations, a position with time that becomes too much work for her. She even exempts herself from any meeting when she's aware there would be nomination for the post. But I still see them troop into the house in the night to tell her she was nominated in her absence!
Congratulations to your mom on her PhD and birthday. Steem with zero transfer fees makes transaction worth the while. Doing transaction in Bitcoin always comes with the trepidation that there would be transfer fees, which most times discourages transfers of less than $10. Still a surprise why the world had not made a currency with zero transfer fees their number 1. Well, humans are strange people and everyday they get more strange.
Thank God your mom thesis went well... I'm glad I could be of help and I wish to do more, you've always stood by us and supported us, that I won't forget in a hurry.. will Keep supporting when more comes!
Wow! I'm grateful to God for enabling me to be able to impact lives positively and leave good legacies.
I appreciate your unflinching support, @sweetestglo-eu and good will. Cheers.
@maryfavour.
Terrific post. @maryfavour
