Oh, your dad. That's funny. My dad was very clumsy too. If you wanted to break something, just hand it to him. π
Do you know how I learned the correct form? One of our managers (British guy) was doing many stupid things so someone had to step in and do something about it). With my colleagues blessings, I started a conversation with the guy. Shortly, the discussions took a nasty path and I told him he is like an elephant in a china store. He started to shout saying that he is not an elephant but a person with weight problems. So I looked up the expression and found the correct version and the explanations. π
My dad is not clumsy, he just don't care or can't or won't pay attention. I guess it comes with age.

Poor fellow. Breaking glasses or plates is considered to bring good luck. So why punishing him for this great initiative? Plastic or rubber would not have the same effect. π
