Qurator's Mischievous Mondays | Philosophy of the Perpetual Mind

Welcome to Qurator's Mischievous Mondays!

This will be a weekly competition that we will be hosting every Monday. We want to see a little more engagement and fun when it comes to some of our competitions so this will be a simpler and shorter competition. Easy to enter, but maybe not so easy to win. ;) This competition will be similar to the Monday Missions we had a long time ago, but instead of writing posts to enter we will now consider only the comments and answers on this blog as your entry to win.

Why Mischievous?

We all could use a little fun in our lives. We would even say that we deserve it, let loose a little and have a go at making everyone laugh or think a little, even if it is a little over the top or pure silliness. Go all out and let your creative juices flow.

This week's theme : Philosophy of the Perpetual Mind

Philosophical exploration of what it means to be human in an age where the mind can exist indefinitely without a body. Would you let your mind live on forever on some sort of computer?

Indefinitely without a body: It's totally insane. Being immortal is something that many people pursue. Well, only those who greatly appreciate life. Lately, we have seen rising levels of depression and rising suicide rates worldwide—apathy for existence. I am sure it would be hell for those people to live a life of boredom forever. However, let's take the fact that this is a person who appreciates life to the fullest. For this person, living without a body is too limiting. The human being needs to feel, touch, smell, taste, savor. Their entire experience is based on what they receive from all the terminals of their body. So, what am I going to live for if I am only a disembodied entity, or can the technology we are talking about simulate an experience similar to the one that human beings lived inside the Matrix?

In that reality, the software, the technology, simulated all the stimuli: visual, tactile, auditory, and gustatory. So it made the human being feel that they were still alive even inside a digital simulation.

But the premise we are dealing with in the post indicates that: the mind will exist indefinitely without a body. Will it be able to interact with other entities without a body? Since another of the things that human beings require is interaction with others, relationships are what define us.

What about vices, do I stop being an alcoholic, a drug addict, or a sex addict?

Another thing to take into account is the meaning of being human. If I am just a program living in a digital form, am I still human?

I think that my consciousness would deteriorate, when would I sleep? Would it be like living inside an eternal dream? Do I still have the same capacity to learn? Would the capacity to store memories have limits? What would be my goal to live eternally without being able to have a body to enjoy the enjoyable? There are so many questions...

Let my mind live forever in some sort of computer? That would technically be to be immortal and still be able to be close to my loved ones. It sounds very tempting although it also has its cons, although everything in this life always has a middle ground and luckily life can sometimes have those little letters that none of us take the time to read.

I explain; thinking about the option of living eternally even if my physical body is devoured by the “Phormia Regina” that is, the larvae of flies that eat corpses, I find it a bit thoughtful because it makes you think about how much you really value your “soul” or that essence that you carry inside you. It makes you wonder, would I still be me even though I'm no longer in this body? And I think so, because it's like changing a perfume from one bottle to another, it would still have the same essence, the same smell, it would bring back the same memories because that's not in the bottle but in the perfume.

On the other hand, it does not say what kind of computer they would give you to continue living in immortality, then it leads you to question whether you would really be you or a copy of you; because ironically the copies although at first glance look the same, have something different then you would no longer be you and it would not make so much sense to be immortal if you would be another person, or would it? These are unanswered questions that make you doubt if you would accept that.

Touching on the subject of emotions, what is the point of living without being able to love? Because if I become a computer then I would not be able to feel emotions, or would that computer allow me to feel love? Although also humanly, love is something abstract that we human beings invented, that is to say, it has the definition that we give it. So maybe I could feel love

Another reason why I could accept, is that if I can do it, then my loved ones can too and we would all be immortal. It is certainly an experience I would accept.

Thank you for the opportunity to philosophize in this way on this subject, it really was a fun and great experience.

Immortality is something that seduces every human being, but I would like to achieve it with a good body and a clear mind. Now, if my mind kept an important secret that would help humanity to solve a vital problem, I would definitely allow that knowledge to be stored in a computer but first I would ask to delete data that only I care about, maybe some memories and erotic images, shameful or that compromises the integrity of other people. That being the case, I accept to be immortal 🤣😆. If not let me rest in peace.

Absolutely yes! Over the years I have discovered corners of my mind that can be chilling, but also a parallel universe to explore.
It may seem a pretty crazy idea, but for some time now I have been curious to know how far my mind is capable of going if I let it act on its own, and since there is no body, I would be free to do so.
The best thing to do? Being in a computer, I would have the freedom to act without the need to sleep, because the mind does not need rest, although the danger is that some mischievous person might turn off the computer, decide to reset the hard disk or the computer model ends up being obsolete and discarded to place a more updated one.

I think it would be truly terrifying, like a mix between Vanilla Sky (2001) and the ending of Hellraiser (2022). In the end, I feel like my face would end up disfigured for eternity, trapped in infinity.

Congratulations everyone and thank you @qurator team for the support. See you on next challenge. ☺

Congratulations to the winners, I'm also happy to see them❤️
