Over the past few days the market has exploded to ATH with almost every top 100 coin. This phenomenon has undoubtedly created some initial euphoria. Nonetheless, it seems that as the time passes with alt coins pumping left and right, most people, even if they are richer, they can't help but feel sad.
I believe the reason is simple human dynamics. Crypto communities usually hang out in closed groups ranging from 50 to 100 people. Inevitably, some of the coins will be shilled amongst peers. Not everyone can hold or will hold the same coins at any given time. When all alt coins pump tremendously in different time frames the holders can't help but feel sad because they missed out.
Everybody in the community feels similar and in a sense "equal" because they know that everyone else is getting richer as well. From our perspective though we feel a sense of missing out, or otherwise a sense of loss. The initial hype from seeing our portfolio reaching ATH (All Time High) quickly dies out as we start contemplating about all the missed opportunities that could push us even higher.
This brings an interesting perspective. I remember listening to Nicholas Taleb audiobook a year ago. He mentioned in one example that if one wants to be happy then they better move to a place where their economic status is slightly better than the ones around them. To make his case, he mentioned an example of someone who was a millionaire but moved in a neighborhood full of millionaires and billionaires but couldn't help but feel sad and/or inadequate.
Humans like to compare. It is human nature. When we are all miserable, we don't feel that bad. When we are all happy, we don't feel that special either. When everyone around us is getting richer and everyone is still missing great investment opportunities we still kinda feel empty, or neutral. I am sure many have experienced this feeling over the past few days. A feeling of contentment but also loss.
Great post on the psychology of people. However, all these people are going to be millionaires by the start of 2019 and they are not going to feel miserable then. The only one miserable will be those who called cryptocurrencies a scam and missed out.
Exactly.
To be honest, I like the Idea that everyone is getting richer, and the alt coin pump. I get excited to see my portfolio grow. I understand that society like to compare them selves to others. But The Idea of self-growth can be awarding knowing that the lttle choices day to day can come around to be the most powerful in the end.
That's nice but the problem is just like in the Movie The Incredibles ! If everyone is special(Rich) then no one is special(Rich).
True!
Don't worry. We'll be a very small group.
well I can tell you something, that the people who don't take part in this crypto revolution aren't going to be rich hahaha
great work!
keep it up
THATS SO TRUE!! Best post ever ..
See it like this: Most of the money in the world is controlled by a few thousand people. If you become a millionare, you are already in the top 10-20% of the richest people in the world.
What I mean by that, is that you go faster upwards when you become richer. Half the population of earth is at the brink of poverty. I am jobless and yet I still make more out of my pathetic Patreon and Youtube revenue than most people in undeveloped countries who work all day.
Also, if you think missed opportunities makes you sad, imagine not taking any chance in your life and missing ALL the opportunities. A single success will take you higher than half of humanity of today.

You are so fucking right! I felt exactly what you are describing and I couldn't describe it in a better way even if I tried.
Also, even if I know its wrong I am analyzing how with a couple of right trades I could have a much bigger portfolio at the moment.
Did you think of a solution?
16,000 kids are dying everyday from hunger
small investors mainly suffers
Not if I sell them for BTC ;)
A very astute and valid observation @kyriacos. We can't all be rich and wealth is a relative thing. I've pondered on this exact thing recently as I've noticed in myself some interesting psychological artefacts related to the crypto rush. It's nice to read that others have their finger on the same pulse. Perspective as always is necessary. Keep up the great work mate.
Lets hope for a better future and see the changes in the next months. Thank you for sharing!
Your observations seem to have some validity and might stem from genetic imperatives. Are you an adherent of The Selfish Gene theory?
Yeap, I have read the book.
Nice

I think it is common knowledge that we should not compare ourselves with others. But like all good advice is it easier said than done.
There are times when I'm glad I was born without a competitive bone in my body. When other folks get obsessed with "winning," I just say, "sure, man, you can have it." It's an easy enough way to make someone happy. If I'm making enough money that I can eat and be left alone, I'm happy.
I remember reading a blog post long ago about a man who scraped and sacrificed to buy a house in a neighborhood inside a better school district. He got the smallest house available and he could barely make the mortgage payments. When he went to a cocktail party held by one of the neighbors, he talked about what a struggle it was - but it was worth it to have his kids in this particular school.
Everyone just stared at him until someone said, "You don't send your kids to public school, do you?
I don't think he talked to his neighbors much after that.
It is a good thing and gives those of us that search for undervalued coins the opportunity to hit jack pot .
Today , I wrote about Why the Rich and Poor need cryptocurrencies -feel free to see it when you are free. More success to you.
Great analysis. I'm one of these guys for sure. But my life improves significantly since I jumped in crypto, and you doing the very good job to keep our heads cold and feet on the ground. Thank you, my friend.
I think this problem is something individuals should try to overcome. I personally enjoy it more when I see talented and capable people do well, even over me.
Comparing assumes people are similar to you in attitudes, interests, and temperament. This may true to an extent, but if you see it clearly you will be aware of how everyone is actually different. It may be that humans don't want to feel lonely and not part of a group that causes so much unnecessary pain and negative emotions like envy; so then comparing is used as a means to seek out social relations.
Exactly; I signed up for an account in September last year, but did nothing writing-wise because life happened. I got on with posting just before the big SBD pump happened and suddenly find myself with a lot of money sitting in BTC, which is the answer to many sleepless nights of worry.
Now there's this little voice in the back of my mind going "Imagine what it would be like if you had gotten started earlier?" I actively tell it to shut up
Very interesting post you have my vote and steem with my continuing support
