I remember one of the Golden Age sci-fi short stories having the similar hook. Something about being able to develop anti-gravity after being shown a video of some "genius" having had achieved it (but dying in the attempt). Which made the scientists give up their ingrained ideas, and try to develop the idea!

Yeah, the idea of "our only limitation is that which we put on ourselves" is definitely in the aether. And I think both woo-woo folks and scientific folks find it true to varying degrees.
