In reality I thought of making the title "why is child abuse only important when it is done by celebrities?" But that would have been a bit subjective.
What really strikes me is how these things mainly hit the headlines when it involves celebrities whether it is Kevin Spacey or Michael Jackson.
In reality this is a huge issue in many countries, but unfortunately for the victims they aren't being abused by celebrities which therefore means that the focus from the public is limited and it is simply not interesting enough to be mentioned in a news cast.
In Thailand and other countries a big part of the sex tourism involves children, which makes me wonder why these cases can't make the headlines?
Even in countries where child abuse is limited it still takes place, and therefore still destroys the lives of many from a young age.
The solution for this issue is not to punish the criminals once the crime is done, but avoiding in happening in the first place. I think that we have to educate about this, in order to make it a part of the way we ALL think. But that is just my opinion.
How do you think it will be possible to stop child abuse?
I know, I was also seeing the reactions as a little weird, people asking to cancel House Of Cards, what? that is, does anyone care about the victims? Or just want to punish and curse Spacey?
I understand why these episodes of sexual harassment and pedophilia occupy more attention when they are committed by a celebrity, that is, people feel identified with them and receive a lot of attention, but they are criminals overnight.
This shows us that people who commit this type of degenerate crime can pass themselves off as you or me, seem very normal, but in the dark and in their privacy the things they do are not normal at all.
I think the authorities are not doing the right thing to avoid these crimes, I could bet that in Hollywood there are more criminals than actors.
I agree with your point, that people simply need to switch their focus from the punishment of the criminal to finding the real root in this issue.
Of course it is unlucky when the crimes are done by persons that became idols for some, but still we need to keep the focus on the right track.
And yes I agree that there might be happening many bad things in Hollywood, but again they are too rich and important to touch I guess.
After all they are the ones acting in the movies that puts the masses to sleep, so the system and the masses are depending on them.
I think you would have had to experience child abuse, and child sexual abuse yourself, to realize this question is actually distracting and oversimplifying to the issue. But the person that actually does the abuse, is only a part of the people that are responsible for letting it happen, or when they find out it happened, they don't know how to talk to the child about it. I know, it happened to me when I was a child. Physical abuse and sexual abuse.
On another note, Michael Jackson didn't actually sexual abuse kids, and he wasn't convicted of it, because there was no evidence. I think Corey Feldman explained what Michael actually did do, the best.
I know that the case of Michael Jackson is questionable to say the least, I mainly mentioned him to underline the point of how the medias can focus on the issue once it involves celebrities.
I am very sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience and it is really brave of you to speak about it openly.
I do agree that we have to put resources in reducing the risks of that child abuse is taking place as well as I believe that we need to assure that the kids who has been abused are getting the help they need.
