RE: Redback Spider

Oh, man, how much do you LOVE that lens?! I've played with it but don't own it. Wishlist item!
This shot is gorgeous... I'm terrified of spiders, so I keep scrolling up to it to take a peek, then scrolling back down here to the comments to hide it again hahahaha. What a baby.
I love that you managed to get good DOF to get the majority of the length of the legs sharp! That's super hard to do! Not to mention getting down and shooting a poisonous spider to begin with! I think it's a great shot... I don't really have any critique of it!

Yes its a beautiful lens; I need to get it out more often. But since I have moved to Canada there are not that many insects because the -35 deg C kills them all! I also use the 100-400 mkII L for my wildlife photography (also an amazing lens) but it does quite close up shots (compared to the mk1) so I have been a bit lazy with the 100 macro. I shot this with quite a high ISO so I could use f/16 as the DOF is crazy shallow when doing macro as you point out.

Haha I am grateful for our small insect population here!! Although there are plenty of Black Widows to photograph! Just find a wood pile! They're so shiny and creepy looking!
Oh yes I have seen some beautiful images out of the 100-400 II L for sure. Lots of bird photographers here on the island, and they love it.
I look forward to seeing what you produce when you get your 100L out more! I'll be jealous! :D

Yes the redback is a close relative of the North American black widow. I will have to look out for them.

I was meant to say that macro is not something I do a lot of in the post; rather than something I do a lot of. Have fixed it.
