What Was Your First/Favorite Vehicle?! Here's My List!

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

What was your first or favorite car/truck?

Being 22, I've had a surprising kinda long list of vehicles. 7 to be exact. I bought my first vehicle from my grandpa when I was 16 and had just gotten my license. It was a 1987 Dodge Ramcharger with a 5.2L V8, 4x4, and automatic. I loved it! Every guy remembers his first vehicle, and most can tell you how they thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. It had a few problems, like dieseling (wanting to start back up after turning it off), massive oil leaks, and it got about 9 gallons a mile, but man did I love it! I ended up selling it because I knew it wasn't practical for commuting to and from work.

After that I found a 2010 Ford Ranger. It was a gas saver with a 4 banger, 2 wheel drive, single cab. It looked like I worked at O Reillys/Advance Auto Parts or something. This stayed around for a few months before I realized I wanted something different.

I traded that in on another Ford Ranger. This time a 98, still 4 cylinder, two wheel drive, and single cab. I LOVED this truck! I got it completely stock and at that time was getting into vehicle repair/modification. I changed out a few things like spark plugs, fuel filter, etc. One day on my way home from college it just died. After getting a tow from my dad I found the timing belt had broke. I changed that and the water pump, problem solved. After saving up enough money, I ordered a 4" lift spindle kit for the front, and a 2" lift block for the rear with 31" Cooper AT/3 tires (actually may get a new set of these for our Jeep one day). I even added a couple of light bars to it, and a cb radio for trail communication.

Later down the road I decided I wanted a 4x4. I searched Craigslist and found a 98 Ford Explorer for sale a couple of hours away. It was stupid cheap because it had a coolant leak, bad tie rods, needed new tires, and some other things. That was a sketchy fun drive home. I couldn't drive it as is, so I fixed the coolant leak, tie rods, hub bearings, and new tires. Before I tires I wanted more ground clearance, so I ordered lift shackles for the rear and cranked the torsion bars up front to give me a couple inches of lift. Then I stuffed 33" mud terrains under it and also added a CB radio for trail communication. FB_IMG_1515900184697.jpg

At this time I owned both the Ranger and Explorer. I soon sold the Ranger to my cousin because I didn't drive it as much. It now resides in a junkyard because it was totaled by a flip. The 4.0 SOHC engine in the Explorer is known for bad timing chain tensioners. It began rattling very badly on startup, so I decided to swap it out. I bought a junker Explorer that had a bad transmission. I removed the engines and started the swap, but it went on hold because I had other things going on.

I took the money from the Ranger and made a horrible decision in buying a 91 Mitsubishi 3000GT. Not even the AWD Twin Turbo version, they front wheel drive V6 model. I still wonder what possessed me to do this. It had a bad oil leak, a locked up air compressor, and other problems. Not to mention how tiny it is to fit my 6' 3" self into. It was kind of fun because it was a 5 speed 'sports car'. It lasted a good while, but soon enough it developed a knock.

I sold the Mitsubishi and bought a 95 Ford F-150 with a 5.0L V8, two wheel drive, single cab. Shortly after getting this I visited Chile. When I returned I started talking to an amazing woman (@alovelymess), and decided I wanted to move there. The Explorer never got finished, so I sold it in anticipation of the move. I kept the F-150 until I moved and my Dad sold it for me after I left.

I am now married to that amazing woman and we reside in Idaho where we found a 94 jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.2L V8 and 4x4. It had a few problems, but most of it has been fixed. Such as oil change, brakes, oil pressure sensor, valve cover gaskets, and I still have spark plugs, wires, trasmission filter/fluid, and a transfer case seal I need to put on. It's been great to us!

Wow, now THAT is a nice list!!

Thanks drobinson. I love vehicles. I always think I'm done, then I see something on the side of the road begging for attention. I even tried track down my old Mustand once to try and buy it back, but couldn't find it anywhere. Anyway, this is something I inherited from my dad. His list was amazing...in the 60s he owned an Aston Martin, an Austin Healey, and a Jaguar XKE all while he attended college in the northeast and all of them were basically college beaters. Can you imagine what just those 3 would be worth today?

My favorite was my 1996 F250 7.3L Powerstroke 4x4 Crew Cab shortbed and that 95 f150 short bed you had are hard to fine..

Those 7.3L never die! Yeah, they're not easy! It was nice!

I bought a used Mitsubishi one time, and little did I know, it was emitting smoke as I drove it off the lot. I loved how it drove but it wasn’t a good purchase. My favorite? Either my Acura Legend or my Honda Accord. Great post!

Oh no! I recall mine having some smoke as well, haha. Good choices! Thanks!

My first vehicle was a Yellow 1970 Mercury Cougar with a 351 Cleveland motor in it. My favorite car that I still currently own is a yellow 1969 VW bus.

Nice car!

VW bus?! That's awesome!

my favourite is ferrari that is another thing i didnt got that!:(

An excellent choice of trucks/car you gat. Don't have one now but my choice is Toyota Tundra and Hilux

Can't beat Toyota! Where do you live that they have a hilux? They're not made in the states, here it is a Tacoma.

I live in Abuja, Nigeria is common over here. My dream car is truck.

My first car was a 1983
Honda Accord! That makes me feel SO old! lol!

Haha, funny!

My first car was a Dodge Ranger with 10.0L V4 and 4x3. It was good to me.

LOL!!!! That is hilarious!!!

My first vehicle was a 1969 Mercury Cougar, PS PW & 351 Windsor with a 4bbl carb and auto trans. Fixed the front end then had the whole car painted. Sold it eventually and the new owner wrecked it! Wish I had that car today. Favorite cars is tough had a few over the years.

My current 2000 Toyota Solar has a 190,000 miles and still runs daily only routine maintenance is very needed. Had a 1989 Chevy pickup had close to 200,00 miles when sold. Did all the work on it including an engine change from a 305 to a 350 with a mild cam installed. Sold that and was running in Kansas on a farm a few years ago, no recent info on that.

Jumped into a 2008 Ford F150 XLT with all the options ran it to Vermont, All over the NJ, PA & Del & Norfolk areas. Had close to 200 k on it when a girl blasted thru a stop sign on a restricted drivers license in NJ. Was 5 minutes from home. The frame was diamond and purchase by her carrier for salvage. Was getting ready to make some major changes to it. Oh well learned to never get to attached to a car after that.

First car was a 1989 Ford Ranger with a completely shot transmission. Learned to drive stick in it, had a lot of good times and adventures in it.

Current car is my favorite to date - 1990 Nissan Skyline GTS sedan. The feeling of driving rhd in the US is amazing- and it gets plenty of looks. I love taking her to shows, even though she's really not the prettiest car in the world with her rough paint job and less than perfect interior.

You do not....That is so awesome!! Have any pics? Post them up!!

That Cougar would make a hell of a car today!

Bummer on the F150, sounds like it treated you well!

First car was a land yacht, specifically a '77 Ford LTD. 400 CI V8, 3-speed auto, RWD. It was totaled when T-boned by a Subaru. Then I got the white Neon. It was rear-ended in 2012, and I used the settlement money to put it back on the road. Now I am slowly working on an engine swap to get the blue Neon running.

I liked the LTD, but it was not a practical car. 15 MPG is hard on the wallet, and RWD sucks in winter. Parking wasn't especially easy either. The Neon is much more maneuverable, and the 5-speed makes up somewhat for the anemic 2.0L 4-banger. FWD handles snow better, even if it's less fun.

Land yacht, haha! Yeah, the neon does sound much better for everyday use. Speaking of parking, the Ramcharger wasn't too fun to squeeze into a spot either.

Back when the Neon was totaled and I was still waiting on a settlement, I considered a Ramcharger. It was in very poor shape and had the winter 4x4 price hike going on to boot.

I'm a huge fan of 80's General Motors G Bodies. My first car was my dad's old car, a 1981 Chevy Monte Carlo. That's where I got the bug. I've also had a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass (shown below). I now have a 1987 Buick Regal T. This is a fun car. Turbocharged, intercooled 3.8 sequential fuel injected running 25lbs, of boost.
