Take A Walk With Me

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

The Hoity-Toity Neighborhood

I don't live in this neighborhood. My house borders one of the oldest and wealthiest communities in Tulsa Oklahoma. Most of these huge houses have been owned by many generations since the late 1880s to early 1900s.

Say Hi To Mina

I think Mina is 4 years old, she is a cross between a German Shepard/Labrador and a Catahoula hound dog. My Son's dog had puppies and only one lived. We were truly thankful my son gifted his only puppy to us. However, the dog is borderline crazy, she has an OCD for her toys and chasing balls. She will run until she drops chasing frisbees and is a fierce well trained guard dog. I trained her myself, she sits, heels, lays down on command and will come back when called chasing squirrels. Getting a dog to stop chasing a squirrel is amazing, most dogs won't listen when in the middle of a chase.

Heading Off

I walk a 4 mile loop twice a day and this is the beginning of my walk. The sky is blue and it's over 60 degrees out. A perfect day to be outside for me and Mina my dog.

Our First Mansion

The neighborhood is full of retired and elderly couples. Most young people can't afford these million dollar houses. Most of the people who can afford homes like this work and own stock in the oil industry. Oklahoma is rich in natural crude oil. I have no ideal how big these homes are but I think you would need a maid to help clean them. I wouldn't want to take care of large houses like this. Can you imagine all the dusting one would have to do?

Winter Isn't Over Yet!

Most of the Christmas decorations are down. This neighborhood was lit up with so many Christmas lights that you couldn't see the stars at night. I don't like Christmas that much so I didn't post any pictures of the light show.

The Trump Mansion

This was the only mansion that had a Trump sign posted on its front yard. Most of the houses around here didn't have political signs posted. But I noticed there were dozens of Hilary signs and only one Trump campaign sign. Which means there are a lot of rich democrats!

A Truly Big House

This house stood empty for nearly a year waiting for a buyer. A family with young children finally moved in. What's really weird is you don't see any kids outside playing in the yard or street. In fact I never see anyone around, no kids or adults when I walk. It's like I am walking through a ghost town.

One Of My Favorite Houses

This house is more my style. I love small bungalows, especially when they have a copper roofed awning and a copper plated hound dog for a lightening rod. Here In Oklahoma we have tornados and huge electrical storms during the spring and fall when the weather changes.

Very nice pictures @reddust! How did you train your dog so well?I want to know because we have three dogs (two yorshire dogs and one chiweenie dog) and they are super super nice and adorable but they are far from being trained like your dog for sure. Here they are! :)!

I could write a book on that...I start out with one behavior I want to either stop or change a little bit. Depending on the dog you must first establish you are the highest rank in the pack. The dog must move out of your way when you walk, if they don't you will know they feel they are the highest in rank. So that is the first thing you must do when working with a dog. You are the leader. One way to prove to the dog you are the boss, roll them over on their back and lay on top of them. Make sure they can't bite you if they are a nervous dog or aggressive. I use a muzzle for more aggressive dogs like my daughters rat terrier that has teeth like a large shark for a short stumpy dog....

After you establish dominance, you can start teaching them to sit on command and use hand and voice signals. Use the same word or hand signal to establish a habit pattern and reinforce that pattern with a treat when the dog understands your command. The first things I teach dogs are, sitting, heeling (walking by your side on a leash), come on command when the dog is off the leash. You have to be established as pack leader for the dog to break away from chasing a squirrel.

You also have to understand the dogs nature. Some dogs are so inbred they are stupid like my daughters rat terrier. I have to lock him in a cage at night because he will poop and pee in the house and I haven't been able to break him of that habit. He also does revenge poops....hahaha

Sorry for the late reply, had an issue with my account. Luckily our dogs are super adorable and they move out of our way when we walk so we don't have to worry about that. Our dogs aren't aggressive either :), so I regularly roll them on their back but since they are so small I just simply block them with my hand.

"After you establish dominance, you can start teaching them to sit on command and use hand and voice signals. ". Yeah this is where I haven't been that successful, for some tasks they listen and for some others they seem to be confused :(. Or they would do good when we are around and once they are alone in the house sometimes they would want to eat out of the trash bag haha.

" The first things I teach dogs are, sitting, heeling (walking by your side on a leash), come on command when the dog is off the leash. You have to be established as pack leader for the dog to break away from chasing a squirrel." Yeah that's definitely the part I need to work on thank you.

I think that our dogs have good understanding of things, I just was not teaching them the proper way I think.

" He also does revenge poops....hahaha" looool that's funny :D

@reddust,
My dear friend, don't forget to insert #walkwithme tag with this post! This is amazing! I like the last image, yeah that's a pretty small but pretty cool place to live the life as it is!

Cheers~

Okay @theguruasia, thank you.

the Trump Mansion was so cool hahha :)

They are very nice people too. My daughter has been to some of their charity functions held in their home. The family has teenagers too, they are all very tall people with striking features, much like their Mansion lolol Thank you @cutiepie

I am definitely not wrong when I referred to you as a braniac!!! What an ingenious write up complemented with descriptive and captivating photos. This is so lovely and amazing. The one that really really really caught my attention was the Trump mansion., that was really awesome.... Thanks to you, I now know how this trump mansion looks like. This descriptive article came timely. A well organised, justified and painstakingly written article. If I were in the power of giving Nobel laureate award, definitely I will award you. you did justice to this article. I say once again kudos. Each time I see your article, I am always fascinated in reading through it because I believe I will always learn something new. Thanks @reddust . You made my day.

You are a tease @cyprianj! You deserve an Oscar for your performance......hahahaha thank you for making me giggle. We all know I am an awful writer but I am a great artist :p

lol..... I just love saying the truth.

You have a great way to describe places well, this area I see is far from the noise and deserves to be lived by the person with his family
As for the dog, I adore dogs because I have a dog too and I like to accompany her in the city and when doing sports
As for the houses, I can not describe how beautiful it is, and how much its architecture can look like a princes in ancient times.

I will be posting more on Tulsa, especially the land around the city. There are lots of abandoned places that are creepy and fun to photograph. This will also help me get to know Oklahoma...

You are right, the old deserted places are like a museum to take photographs
Especially when editing the image in a program

I didn't edit this batch of photos, but when I go visit the abandoned towns and old buildings, I surely will. I actually enjoy editing digital photos.

I have left you a message in the Discord from days, I tell you to send me your own picture to draw you :p

Oh I don't get on chats often, so sorry for missing your message, I will check it out tomorrow and send you a. photo...I would feel so odd having someone draw me....lololol thank you, you made me blush.

you welcome ! You deserve more than a picture because you are a modest woman and a wonderful human being ^^

I can't wait so see more of your awesome pics......... Anxiously waiting

I liked the second house but frankly they are all wonderful
have a good day madam @reddust

The second house with the reindeer and snowman?

We are always take a walk with you in art streets

I will be posting more about my walks. There are a lot of interesting things gong on here in Tulsa.

Then ok i will keep on touch on your blog waiting

It's a nice idea to get to know where you live in Oklahoma. It looks like a quiet and beautiful place i think i must work for many years so I can own a house in this neighborhood or maybe I can not!! lol

The neighborhood I live in is very quiet except on Sundays. I love by a large church that has hundreds of members. Their parking lot is huge but not big enough so everyone parks on the street.

yes it seem there is a vast space for everyone ! in the first 15 years of my childhood I grew up on a rural farm that was completely isolated and calm, after that i moved to live in the city, in a crowded and noisy neighborhood

I didn't experience a big city until I was 40 years old....I moved to downtown Chicago and lived in a skyscraper on the 28th floor. It was like living in a science fiction spaceship colony. I was very homesick for fresh air, stars, and walking barefoot. Everyone let their dogs poop all over the parks in Chicago, especially when they were very wealthy. That was my number one pet-peeve. I carry a bag and pick up Mina's poo. Usually she doesn't poop, but I would hate to have someone accidentally step into a fresh pile of dog poo!

why do some people do things that are considered weird, It's another way of living that sticks to the rules among people ! you will not have to do this in a rural place you feel free!

Very beautiful. Must say Oklahoma has fantastic views

When I first moved here I thought Oklahoma would be dry and yellow looking like California. But it is full of leafy trees here in the city. All I knew about Oklahoma was the stories of the depression and the dust bowl days back in the 30s when there was a huge drought and many small farmers had to leave, their crop land turned to dust and blew away. It was a horrible time in America but especially hard on Oklahoma farmers.

The core of the Dust Bowl region was the west half of Kansas, the Oklahoma Panhandle, and most of the Texas Panhandle. I grew up in the Dust Bowl part of Kansas. We had folklore and history classes in high school, but never covered more than the 1 column in the history book about the Dust Bowl Days. And there were plenty of old folks, still driving their 1940s sedans, who lived through those days. And nobody ever talked about it. Except to admire the shelterbelts out in the farm country. It wasn't until I read the book, "The Worst Hard Time", that I understood what had happened there. It's an amazing combination of land speculation, global crop markets, and climate. That dust covered a huge area farther east, including Tulsa. But Tulsa has enough rain for trees, lol -- a veritable paradise! Here's to better land management and good rain!

And to enjoyable walks in your rich, rich town. I can't even imagine how much oil money has gone through Tulsa! Those houses sure are different than in Eugene, OR that you know well. Eugene was for the loggers and mill workers. The rich timber barons were up in Albany and other towns, not Eugene. Towns sure have interesting history.

The Dustbowl days sound like an it would be an interesting article to write about land mismanagement. I see another dustbowl coming up with the use of herbicide and pesticides sterilizing our soil to the point nothing will grow because the micro biome has been killed. Just like our gut plants need nutrients broken down by the flora and fauna found in our soil, the roots can then absorb the refined nutrients. They all have a interconnected relationship and this relationship is connected to all life on earth.

Boy this town is rich....It's a good place to practice letting go of my envy....hahaha

Thank you @haphazard-hstead, I miss Eugene and my down-to-earth friends.

Hi Mina
i think Mina is also very rich because she owns a crude oil well.
nice to walk with you @reddust

Mina is poor as a church mouse, just like her owner....hahaha

hahaha..... Mina don't have lot of money but have a great owner

Haha..... You sure right

You made me smile thank you both <3

Amazing.Such a beautiful family and photo too.thnaks for sharing with us go ahead.hope everyone like this place to take a walk sometimes. because this place look like awesome.keep it up.

Cool neighborhood I have never been to Oklahoma

I lived here two years, the people are friendly and are very different from west coast people I am used too. They are more southern, they all talk softly and remember their manners. West coasters like me talk loud and fast and forget our manners often...lolol

Those houses look insane! Probably very fun to walk around in that neighborhood.

Their owners are friendly but distant when I do happen to see them. I've never been inside a million dollar home or known anyone that rich....lolol, I really am just as poor as a church mouse....

Thank you for this leaflet for the neighborhood where you live. Beautiful houses.
Your dog is wonderful I do not like dogs much upset them some thing,
Walking from the best sports you have to take even half an hour a day.
Who do you live in?
Do You Have Children?

I've been married forever, I have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. I don't like dogs that much, I prefer cats. But my husband loves dogs and takes care of Mina. I take Mina for walks though...

Nice post @reddust :) Thanks for sharing and taking us on a walk with you.

I love your neighbourhood... It's fantastics.

I prefer the Truly Big House. Once i have all the needed facilities (light, water, video games, internet facilities), i don't have a problem staying indoor for long

Will you invite me to your neighbourhood lol?

This isn't my neighborhood, I live very close though in a modest little house. But if you come and visit we can walk through the rich neighborhoods. There are even bigger, fancier houses I will be posting soon....huge houses that look like they could be a fancy hotel.

I guess those huge houses have occupants. I don't like people building huge houses without future consideration.

Once the children decide to be on their own then the house becomes obsolete and relatively quiet
Most time the occupant even find it scaring to live in it alone with less companion around

I am always a advocate of maybe a three bed room house and wide compound.

Here big houses show off your wealth and prestige...If I was worth a lot of money no one would know. I'd live in a small house with a huge garden and drive my old car around...hehehe

Considering those big house, don't they pay taxes on it?

Unlike my country here where we don't pay tax on houses.

Another reason owning property in the US is we really don't own anything we have to pay taxes on... good observation @fadijio9

Exellent topic in your amazing style

Thank you @dobartim, I thought I should post something personal so people know I really do have a life outside of writing papers and working on my art.

Exellent choice my honest friend

Reminds me of the Mister Roger’s theme, it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Mina sounds like a handful and lots of fun to boot.

Mina is a good dog, we are very lucky! This was a prefect day!

Excellent photography in your walkwithme journey. Well explained indeed @reddust. Extra special background here.

I concur with what you just said.... Reddust is really a genius.

I think you are my brother @cyprianj :p

What more can I ask of, having you as an elder sister will make my world a better place , cos I won't have to do heinous tasks again cos I have a genius around 😁

Incredible!! You always amaze me with your great writing

wonderful house

Pictures are great! Hello Mina! It seems to be a wonderful place to live in. I think it is perfect to those who want to have peace of mind. @reddust

It is very peaceful here, other parts of town are not so peaceful through. One of the reasons we live here and pay higher rent is because of the great schools and the neighbors are very nice.

Oh Mina is so cute :)

She is a sweet happy dog. I've never seen such a happy dog and I've worked with a lot of them.

Thanks for tour @reddust I guess they have fairly large properties to fit those big houses on.

The yards are small, the houses take up most of the lot. There are several manor houses that have at least an acre of land surrounding them. I will take some photos of these large properties as well.

nice photography
upvote & comment back plzz

I shouldn't comment back when you ask, that is bad manners. So don't ask me again, I am saying this to help you so you won't run into a grumpy cat that has a huge amount of power and flag you....

Love the tour @reddust! Thank you for the share.

You are welcome @frankbacon, more to come! I need to get out of the house and do a little traveling so I will be exploring Oklahoma and blogging about it.

I am agree you.

Hi Mina and snowman in a hat :d

I know, most of the houses took down their Christmas lights about a week ago...lolol

It's okay to leave few snowmen if people want to extend holidays a little bit :d

I LOVE old homes. They took so much pride in making sure the building would last and have character back then. Today it is multi-purpose buildings with cheep construction made for a McDonalds mentality. Tulsa, OK...isn't that Oral Roberts University area? A pleasure to read and learn of your area. Thanks.

I love the old homes as well. That's why I will be taking a bunch of photos. I will paint my favorite ones. Oral Roberts University is south of us, I think it's across the river, we are near Brookside.

Wonderful pictures , I wish if I can buy this big house huh but I think its expensive

Can you check my last post about morocco I'm sure that you will like it.
Welcome in morocco really I want to meet you someday @reddust

I wouldn't want to own a big house, it's just to much to own. I would rather have a nice little house and a big garden I could putter around surrounded by grassy pastures and trees. A big house is a burden to take care of in my mind.

wow I'm changing my thinking about big house and I want also big garden and swimmingpool

I've lived in big houses and I am lazy, little houses are easier to clean and gardening keeps me fit and healthy. Also bigger houses are taxed heavier and upkeep is so costly. Owning anything is like being chained anyway...true freedom is owning nothing! hehehe

huhuh yes that's true but where we can sleep lol!

you forget to check my last post , leave a comment I know that you will like it

Did you take those pictures? If you didn't you need to add the sources of the pictures or you may bet caught for plagiarism.

Haha... This is true actually....... But employing a gardener can be of help, what do you think??

If I had enough money to buy the huge manors I would defiantly have enough money for a maid and a gardener @cyprianj....lolol

Haha...... That's true. Well I believe you gonna have the money. You gonna have! That's my faith, in due time it will happen.

If I do have enough money, I will be humble, no one would know...that's how one avoids trouble. ;-)

Excellent writing dear friend.. i follow you!

Wow, this is really wonderful. Your life is amazing. Dear sister, I wish you the great happiness of my heart. A wonderful life. I advise you only by doing good and spreading peace. Thank you dear sister @reddust

after a long time we had a walk with you along those streets :) wow you have copper roofed houses there..this is my 1st time seeing or hearing about something like that..we do not have any single house like that..it is great to know how people change their architecture according to the situation in the area :)

I too want to have a walk getting away from all this busy schedule.I want to go somewhere far away and enjoy the company of myself. To feel the fresh breeze and fill up my lungs with it and to stare at the night sky until a I see a falling star to make a wish!!
