Sinterklaas

The klomp (wooden shoe) is old and the carrots look good unlike what we see here in the shops. I asked my son to buy some to make carrot juice after an Indonesian recipe. Since they feel soft we letter let it be. I can't stand old carrots and onions and on those rare occasions we eat it I rather pay a bit more than the stuff that lies around month after month.
The wrapping paper is more modern. I remember it. There's even a "zwarte Piet" printed on it and I saved some old wrapping paper of years ago because it's no longer for sale. It will not be a collector's item but it reminds me of times where it was allowed to celebrate a Dutch custom without the endless discussions about a past not one of us took part of and the forced upon idea that it's discriminating. No one finds "Zwarte Piet" a creep or a slave, everyone loves him so how sick must the mind be to feed the brain of children with this idea?
Now I mention celebrations, culture and Sinterklaas (Sint Nicolaas) I like to share Krampus the "Zwarte Piet" of Austria (Saint Nick's helper). I wonder why no one complains about him.

I remember when I lived in Holland the controversy about "Zwarte Piet". Crazy stuff. Discriminatory my ass!
