Yes, basic income is here now, we are using it. Steemit wants to pay people to be people online, or rather get paid for what they do online already. Maybe some earn more than others but as the value rises all benefit equally. I received 5 steempower when I joined back in March this year, made a few posts and comments on others posts, do my daily upvotes and currations and Bam, I got 40 Steem power. Not much yes, but if I would have put in 500 it would now be over 4k, that could one day grow to enough to power down for some basic universal income. But I do not need it because I have been self employed for ten years now, so I am not concerned with losing my job to a 'useless beeper'. I am here because Facebook is dead, so is centralization, however who will be able to cash out ecurrency when a natural or man made EMP hits??? Out of the pan and into the fire, is not how to cook a five star meal. AI remains obsolete since inception, DNA is the greatest form of information storage in this universe, aur job as human beings is to access it before the machines overwrite it, savy?
Very informative article. It raises some interesting questions. One closer to now issue I've thought about is you know how President Trump is going to build a southern border wall and have Mexico pay for it. The plan is that either the Mexican government will write him a check for ten billion dollars, or, he starts taxing remittance fees from money Mexican migrants send back home to Mexico. That would be mostly Western Union fees, and they would amount to way more than ten billion, so right now it would seem in Mexico's best interests to just pay up. I know of at least one cryptocurrency project (VIVA) that is working on a system for people to be able to send cash around via text message, and I'm pretty sure there are other similar cryptocurrency projects. When any one of those projects is working and people can send cash anywhere they want with their smartphones, then Western Union will become obsolete. If this happens before President Trump gets a check from the Mexican government, then he will have to come up with a different way to pay for the wall.
Reminds me of this potential crypto-based proposal...

(Not sure if it was totally serious or just a ponderance, though interesting either way).
We are the change we are looking for! This is an excellent piece and, by now I guess I have to read part 1!?! ;)
Thanks for your sharing, namaste :)
The public were working for the politicien a long time, now the politicians will work for the public :)
The solution will come when people realize that they can create their own currency. And 3d print whatever they need thus nullifying the necessity of the existing banking model.
There is a very old saying that I think applies. "There is nothing new under the sun" Reality is that change is a part of the human condition. Every time in the past that the resources have been consolidated they get redistributed through war and conflict. There is no reason to think that technology is going to change this and in fact one of the things that may happen is told as a story in Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
In a far away future mankind has conquered the stars after many wars thinking machines become outlawed. Experimenting with thinking machines is the social taboo of the civilized star nations and will lead to the destruction of anyone audacious enough to go against the prohibition.
What we call civilization is really a cycle of boom and bust. We are a slave dependant society that really has never been civilized. Ethics have never existed for any other reason then to keep the vast majority of people producing so that a very small minority can live in comfort. Robots will vastly more efficiently consolidate the resources which just means the cycle will speed up.
I sencerly hope that I am wrong, but would bet my money on the old saying "There is nothing new under the sun".
So we are in charge now? :)
meep
If it is declared to be so... ;-)
Decentrally declared.
good job !
Interesting! We live in amazing and changing times!
The continued growth of technology has had a significant impact on the political ratings, the act of podcasting can make anyone a journalist.
The young, educated, and affluent will relate to technological innovations
nice job love the article
What can be shaken will be shaken... welcome to a new world landscape not many years from now.
OOOOO I was hoping you would get to the AI part.
I don't have many comments other than I am going to continue to play as large of a part as I can in ensuing safety of all.
Totally agree up voted!! I'm fed up by dictatorship of goverment!
Oh man.....decentralization...I long for that. I've got so much crap to read to get my head around all of this. I'm amazed at how deep this topic is compared to the garbage people are consuming on television. That people like you are so knowledgeable about the topic and have already spent so much time discussing it makes me feel like I've had my head in the sand for years. Thanks for doing all of this--I seriously appreciate it. I need some time off just to read it a few times! lol
I dove in pretty hard about a year ago. There is alot to catch up on, but give yourself a few committed months and you'll get up to speed. Do get a copy of Blockchain Revolution by Don & Alex Tapscott as well... ;-)
Thanks much, I'm definitely going to do that more and more. Because of the nature of my daily routine, I'm now able to get a few posts up per day and interact with some of you guys and gals here, as well. I'll check out the recommendation, also! thanks again!
You always have some great articles man, really interesting, and love the picture of the Mom getting her Anarchist ready for school. Fantastic :)
Haha. Pinterest has some good grabs.
Thanks. :-)
While it’s true that most politicians are by no means techno-savvy themselves, they hold the reigns of a system of power which compartmentalizes and controls most aspects of society on the whole, and though their understanding of a particular widget or doodad (technical terms) likely amounts to somewhere between jack and squat, they’ve long since mastered the meta, so to speak, as a tool for directing consciousness. The powers-that(shouldn’t)-be hold the strings of many technological gatekeepers who do a fine job of managing the innovative social trends of both today and tomorrow on their masters’ behalf. Indeed, their recent campaign of blatant censorship is proof enough of a power to block out the sun. It may indeed be the impetus of a new wave of online “Alt” communities, like Steamit for instance, but, as with Cryptos, the adoption rate is key. They know that a certain percentage of—let’s just call us what we are—chattel are going to notice we’re not living in Kansas anymore, but the majority will tend to follow the yellow brick road as directed because, after all, there’s lions and tigers and bears out there, allahu akbar.
Speaking of cryptos, I think the jury’s still out on whether they might be able to undermine our modern central currency model or, perhaps, simply offer the so called “banksters” and their political lackeys a new avenue for bolstering criminal activity under the radar. Reports already circulate among the fringes, of certain dark web assassination contracts taken out against, shall we say, politically inconvenient individuals, payed for in Bitcoin. So long as crypto currencies are exchangeable for fiat, they can likely control them as they do everything else: through volatility, aided by cycles of inflation and deflation. After all, the claim about them only working peer to peer holds true only for so long as their majority remains aggregated among a diverse base, regardless of fungibility. Times of chaos always lead us to believe that a new paradigm is on the rise, and it’s typically true by and large, only the basic rules of power remain intractable by our faults. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
All I can say it that I completely agree :-) I think politicians get their power from their personality types (Dark Triad)...in short, they are sociopathic manipulators. They will always be around because people are always people. And most people, frankly, want to be told what to do. They want order, control, safety, while pretending to be free. And powerful people will always be around to offer that....for a price. There are various aspects this new paradigm that have me worried. You've touched on many of them. The biggest problems relate to vulnerabilities around human nature, not the tech. On the bright side, in terms of cycles of history (Fourth Turning) and massive payable debt attached to the current fiat currencies, the time is right for this paradigm shift.
Great article. I believe that a great number of people will have a new way of living because of developments and ideas that are shared in environments like steemit, a land without borders leading to desalinated water for Somalia for example. The people are then no longer chattel. In places where we have been used as guinea pigs by the medical, pharmaceutical, industrial complex there are many who are isolated, seriously unwell and the least we can do is provide a life sustaining income and basic necessities. These people also can be extremely devoted to information sharing, above all, they have time.
Perhaps artificial intelligence will make many changes in our society and economy.
I do not think AI is a simple machine.
It will control our lives in the next 30 years. We must continually strive to survive in such an organization.
I have seen good articles. thank you.
It doesn't have to be one or the other.
Like life on a cellular level, animals tend to group together to perform tasks better. The human race is slowly converging into an organism. If new technology can connect everyone and provide the human race with a nervous system, then world governments are basically complex organs that perform certain tasks. I believe coexistence will take hold in a beautiful way (but not before a tremendous amount of rebellion and violence).
Nice article. This completely jives with Thaddeus Russell's thesis in "A Renegade History of the United States". It's the radicals and renegades who really shape culture and history -- those who ignore convention.
He just started a new podcast. I did a brief article about it the other day: https://steemit.com/podcasts/@voidmu/unregistered-podcast-with-thaddeus-russell
