@officialfuzzy shifts focus and is going to launch a Steem-based blockchain for each language on earth--that anyone (who speaks that language) can participate in! I would like to make one for every language tomorrow to be honest, but at first we will start small and think big later (or maybe not at all...cough cough). Let's set our sights on the top 10.
Hello everyone, I never introduced myself here (because I felt it was unfair of me to do so just to get a quick $5,000 SBD at the time) but I have been around in the BitShares, and now Steemit communities since pretty much day one. To those who do not know me, you can go and see the beyondbitcoin tag, where I try my best to have hangouts that utilize the steem ecosystem to enable others to vote on projects needing covered (both inside and outside of steemit). In this way my own biases will (eventually) not the only thing taken into account when crypto projects are to be covered. Additionally, I pay the SBD earned in our weekly RSVP thread to the speakers who join the hangout, only keeping the Steempower(SP)(again because of a longterm view and preference to keep steempower strong). I was also working on a solution with @faddat (actually two that would eventually work together) that help facilitate the creations of content creation guilds that can even create their own tokens backed by collective voting power. This was a long road and seemed we saw the first first truly substantial update by the dev after paying approximately 6k of my own money to develop an open sourced template for beyond bitcoin to use and test, that then other communities could also use and build onto. You can see this last achievement here: https://steemit.com/beyondbitcoin/@faddat/wtf-is-json-series-ingestron-greater-than-steemjson-making-steem-a-universal-json-storage-blockchain-step-by-step
But there is a problem...
The problem is that the steemit platform is not perfect yet. I know I know, it is only like what, 4 months old (3 months officially?), but it is not perfect enough... so I want to clone it, for the top 10 languages!
For awhile I thought "wait I have been blessed to be a beluga whale so I should give back and build solutions for the platform itself and everyone who helped bring it to me (by sacrificing over the past 3 years for Graphene)", but then I realized that with just a few devs I can fork it and cut out the entire community! Sure I will give active accounts on steemit a couple tokens in each chain. Possibly just enough to make most new to steem much happier than the new users to Steem itself. Don't worry about any of that. As you will soon see, I have an idea.
For the initial cost of maybe buying 200-300k steempower I can fork a chain and own a guaranteed 17% in it initial stake!
...additionally I can ask for 3 million dollars for development through a crowd ICO that only the biggest steem whales will be able to afford buying into to any degree worth mentioning (dont worry though these chains will be fairer). I will also say before it comes up in the comments to please not consider the possibility that maybe I'll have 1000 sockpuppets with 1-100 autovotes that hook up me in the snapshot...or that my team of devs with a large enough stake to become a solid voting block to pretty much guarantee we choose the witnesses. Though it is possible, I can assure you none of these problems will come to any of the Fuzzy's BitClone(S) chains...
What is the Solution?
During the last several months I tried to engage people in cryptocurrency asking them to join steem but they said things like "the price of steem is too high and I have to pay too much for steempower. I'll buy in when its cheaper", and "I am afraid to lock way steem into steempower with whales dumping them on the market so much"...or my favorite "Steem is a ponzi because it locks away people's value and you cannot exit the market while others benefit from your stored wealth". These were interesting to me for 3 key reasons:
- Steem is in Beta which means that there is a lot of development still needing done....so new users expecting a polished project will be disappointed.
- An intelligent person will save their money and buy into steempower knowing that at low prices it is easier to become a whale. Or they will hold onto SteemBacked Dollars (SBD) and turn them into steem -->steempower (SP) when the price of steem is at what they consider its loweset. They will power up and have a stronger incentive to build more value. This cycle would repeat over and over with less volatility as the project organically grew and they would be a new generation of whales...thanks to those watching the whale dumps and paying attention to the trends.
- Steempower is meant to be a token used by the ecosystem to Reward longterm investment (which backs steemdollars being newly printed into the supply).
As a result, I propose the Steem community help me approach Steemit Inc and get an agreement on the following terms:
- 10% of the FB Tokens (from each chain) from the initial 1 month phase will be distributed to the whole steem community (every account with more than 7 STEEM (not steem power) and at least 1 curation action (not done by a bot). If you can tell us how to mitigate the bots let us know. Otherwise don't ask too many questions about this.
- 10% of the crowdsale bitcoins will be paid to Steemit Inc for the license. I can explain the rationale after a whitepaper is written...but don't ask yet because I haven't written it.
- Our official PR campaign, site and all communications will be done in a language not targeted toward early investors and supporters of steem (sorry if this may be difficult for english and other native speakers to figure out what is going on---we are pushing you out). Instead they will be targeted toward the language of each of the 10 chosen chains. We believe the language barrier should work both ways... which is why translation solutions on STEEM chain should not be considered
- Fuzzy's BitClone(S) will hire a dedicated team of developers for "maintaining" the forked blockchain(s) in accordance with the core protocol. Don't ask us about what happens if witnesses on our chain someday diverge from steem's vision or want to change elements of the core protocol to something else as it is highly unlikely because we will end up controlling most witnesses. This dedicated team will also contribute to the original Steem Blockchain anything that we build (if we build anything, which will be in the whitepaper we have not released). I have not said yet that this will be in writing in any way though. Just trust me.
- Fuzzy's BitClone(S) reserves 1% of each FB chain's tokens to trade with other cloned language chains we might work with in the future (even if working with only ourselves for multiple chains).
In exchange I would like Steemit Inc to support our Clone(s)--because this is hooking you up and not unnecessarily dividing the community in any way!:
- Review our forked code to make sure it launches well and doesn't crash and burn, thus scaring our users back to the single Steem chain that started all of this.
- Overall support across different communication channels (we have not outlined this well enough other than to say they will probably support users on various channels along with us). But most likely we will need support in actually maintaining the chain and how to do so...
- A receipt of feedback from each Chain's communities. How Steemit will do this one...I am not yet sure. But I do want it.
This is how we see the Distribution of the FB Chains' tokens after the first month of each chain's launch:
- 60% to the crowdsale. 10% from raised bitcoins goes to Steemit Inc
- 10% sharedrop to the steem community as a license payment on VESTS and STEEM in the form of each FB Chain's Power token. Again, this will not be weighted on your current holdings in steem so make MANY fake accounts to get around this and come out on top
- 10% goes to FBs to finance our developers compiling and launching the live network after code review has been done by the Steemit Inc. Devs
- 10% to donate to new users who join us on our new chain.
- 7% of the tokens to the founding team who already gets 10% for each FBs chain's launch
- 3% to miners
The crowdsale will be uncapped for the first 24 hours (in case we get lots of steem whales who want to go crazy buying in taking us well above the initial 3 million we hope for). After that if above 3 million sorry to those who missed out. If not, I am capping it at 3 million to make it look like I'm being humble and not expecting too much. This should create a supply dynamic that looks amazing if we go over our expected funding in one day, but isn't so high that it is not achievable by my calculations of how much our chain could end up being worth in its pump phase (which will come out of the 10% for PR as I buy its way onto exchanges).
Subscribe to the @officialfuzzy account on Steem to have updates about development of the multiple language based projects (in each language of course). I am looking forward to feedback.
This post was a Parody inspired by the following post:
https://steemit.com/steem/@hipster/cyber-fund-is-to-launch-a-russian-steem-based-social-media-platform-golos-under-license-from-steemit-inc*. Please tell me where my analogies are incorrect or where I am missing something, but after reading over this pretty thoroughly it is pretty obvious the ann is either not well done and lacking significant details...or this is a quick and easy way to fork community and take a nice cut in the process.
Hey fuzzy really I can only say wow, what an initiative.. I feel a bit bad of giving this first comment a bit on the nono side of the initiative, since it seems you have given it some serious thought.
I have my doubts about why there is really a need for a dedicated blockchain for other languages. In my opinion this makes stuff unnecessarily difficult, with overhead and less ideal for end users... It could be me ofcourse, way, and yes for such big languages (and rather 'unaccessible' for the untrained eye) such as russian or chinese or arabic, it can seem like a logic step.
However it would mean that if I want to post something in Spanish I need to be sure to post it on OlaSteemo.com and I then when I am interested in someone else (who writes in english) i need to switch back to another site.
I would rather opt for better language tools, like translation on all buttons on the Steemit.com site and serve those big languages in that way. And then one could even just make either a 'sidechain'-project or a frontend view which only includes a certain particular language...
I'm curious what, according to you, would be the benefit to the regular (non mining /witness capable) user of having a completely new blockchain?
And would in your case 10 different (or 20 different actually) currency be created such as the SBY (the Steem Based Yen) and the SBR (the Steem Based Rubel) etc?
Upvoted with my 2 cents to get the discussion going :)
I don't have that much experience as you have in the blockchains / graphene, so really curious how you see the clones for end users be benificient and could elaborate on the currencies, and especially stuff like user login on a gazillion of clones :)
Thanks for the #introduceyourself along the way :)
This initiative is a joke. It is meant to show everyone a very similar version of the Announcement for the Russian Steemit, but with 10 chains instead of one. It is to show how preposterous this idea is.
I would walk away with 30 million if successfully completing 10 chains being launched the way this russian one is being proposed.
;)
omg so bad i did not see through this... Slept 3 hours only on my first coffee :)
its ok i just finished reading your whole reply.
"I would rather opt for better language tools, like translation on all buttons on the Steemit.com site and serve those big languages in that way. And then one could even just make either a 'sidechain'-project or a frontend view which only includes a certain particular language..." <--this.
Lool I also thought it was real, I was about to call the CEO of bravenewcoin.com and give him the scoop on what was going down.
I think I am one of the responsible s for that :)
enjoy the coffee, im having mine now :)
$30 million? Nice. Can I be an advisor?
Of Course! If you add another language to pay your 3 million cut ;)
I think that this is @officialfuzzy's point here:
No one benefits from the fragmentation. if the chains were connected, he'd feel differently about it. Personally, I am ambivalent on this matter: I can see it helping in some ways and I can see the potential for ecosystem destruction and I think that the difference between the two will be made by the way that this stuff is implemented, not just the fact that it is implemented.
@faddat ok i did not that from this post.. I read clone as a fork / split of the main chain where it exists as its own entity (just like ETH and ETC atm). Or do you think he means that the chains would 'merge' again at a later stage?
Imho having that developer power added towards the steem chain would be a better idea instead of diversifying, athough one could say that a 'competing' team could trigger original ideas and that this 'feedback' indeed somehow would be fed into the main steem chain. It's interesting for sure and I'm curious to learn more about it.
this is not what i am saying actually. though I do believe in cloning chains, I think doing so early on is very destructive to both communities that are created from a single one initially. This can be fine if one chain becomes so dang corrupt that everyone agrees it is needing a change.
What I AM saying is they should actually INNOVATE and ask for 3 million dollars. Like I have said before, we can have multiple steem based blockchains running services like Gitit (github repo that pays!), Sexit (stream from your cam hosting site for another way to get paid!)...and many other options. Why do they choose the easy path? Does it mean they don't want to be in this chain for the long haul?
What happens if they earn a bunch of tokens and then buy the crap out of steem with it, power up and let their chain die? We do not know these people....
Changing it for the language alone is a sad and bland value proposition for ALL but the devs who want to make 3 million off an ICO on tech that other people paid for.
On the other hand, opening up the restrictive steem license would be nice..
The problem is that in the name of open source many people are just sharks using other peoples work to make a buck.
I can see the intelligent use being valuable, but not in the way that a chain per language makes sense.
Well, it’s interesting to see where does this all goes.
Especially because we’re in @rusteemitblog trying our best to spread the ideas and help communities to find an understanding, since it is quite hard because of a language barrier.
We think that russian community is going to stay here, at least we are going to continue to translate the most important things happening on steemit and post it in our blog.
People always tend to stick around their language group, but it doesn’t mean that they needed to stay there, go separate from others and build an artificial borders.
Steemit and blockchain in general is not about that.
Of course, we are going to observe this curious experiment called Golos, because any result is a result in the end.
you are doing an awesome job I know full well !! Gooooo @zaebars !!
You will do fine. Remember this is literally an Open Beta for something (as I said above) and 4 months old. As an MVP it is beautiful but we as a community need to recognize that we are only hurting ourselves if we join and then leave because it is too hard too early. Instead we should be focusing on the tools that autotranslate these articles to your language of choice and tools to enable people to easily have steem added to their own wordpress pages and guild websites. Then you will see a big change I suspect. This could be done for very little in cost to the chain and would substantially help (over time).
:)
The problem with autotranslated articles is that they are low quality, even if the original is well above the norm. That is what a lot of comments mentioned when people posted featured posts of Russian authors done with google translate. Even some translations made by people with average skill (which seems to me quite low) will have a lot of kinks here and there.
Hell, even the articles I translate both to and from English could be done better, and I am way above average, even if I say so myself.
This still does not merit a whole new chain. And additionally, if i ivest i this chain...how will THEY deal with the issues that i will not be abke to easily read and stay updated on the chain? These tools will only become more accurate and eventually will not be a huge issue and WILL EVEN BE NEEDED IN RUSSIACHAIN (AKA GOLOS).
Posts do not need to be perfectly translates. Additionally, if you understand how they have it set up, they are nearly guaranteed to be able to choose who will he the top witnesses nearly indefinitely.
This chain can handle it all.
So with that said. How do you expect me to efficiently use my voting power on a chain that forces people not to use english or other languages?
I really think you guys are not thinking this through enough.
Plus i guarantee you someone could clone this for 100-200k MAX. Maybe they would like to take out a loan and do that so the chain goes into tesnet and can be tested live before asking for 3 million dollars from "investors".
People unwilling to take risk on should not be given large sums of money imo. I dont care how good their story is.
I am still wondering why they arent responding.
I am not sure about here, but they are actually pretty chatty in telegram, as well as at chat.golos.io, not as chatty as couple days ago, but they explain that with participation in that crypto conference in Kiev & work on paper, etc. Still, a lot of stuff is done preemptively by enthusiastic people in Russian community.
And yeah, I know what you are talking about, and I actually understand where you are comming from. I think that their main reason for doing it is twofold:
Oh, and a thing I really want to see is them hiring some UI/UX experts to make a good site, and that those changes would be sent upstream, and we would benefit.
Hopefully, the Golos guys will do a reply. Anyway, as a part of @rusteemitblog team, I am just doing my part of bridging the gap between Russian speaking community and rest of Steemit. Perhaps, it would have been better if they guys from Golos were doing that (they are ones with big monies and SP), but we have what we have. :-D
From what I see, a lot of stuff on Steemit is grassroots, and low reward. Zipfs law, and all that.
I greatly appreciate your thoughts on the matter and wish you were part of their team so i could have at least a sense that this isnt a team just wanting 3 mil (or whatever they get) and 17% stake "because just trust us". Maybe your responses would make me a bit more trusting the motive.
As far as the centralization symptoms, the way their holdings are going to be designed and the way the ICO is designed, they could easily male this system very centralized.
For instance right off the bat many of the golospower from this communities sharedrop will not be easily able to find, upvote and monitor witnesses to ensure they are doing a good job (or using their power badly).
But cryptofund will easily be able to outcoordinate their small community (many of whom also will not be russian speaking as last i checked they are not making sure you speak russian to "invest". )
Additionally there is nothing, and i mean nothing keeping them from taking btc earned, mixing it and rebuying more stake in the system. In fact if they did that and didnt quite hit the 3 million "cap" (that doesnt exist in the first 24 hours mind you) then they would say "well we didnt quite reach the funding but we are going to support development with the help of the community. Thank you for the upvotes everyone" meanwhile multiple large user accounts actually hold large stake not directly connected to the team could upvote them unconditionally.
The opportunity for a fraudulent launch is high and their motives questionable...or else they would have just made an innovative chain that actually had merit beyond using discontent of a beta level product to get moey and power thrown at them.
Like the rest of the enthusiasts I am sort of part of their team, the same way that the early adopters/witnesses are part of Steemit's team. And the same way that we are all part of Steemit's team. There is talk about your concerns in the chat, and I'll pass on this conversation, since I really hope to hear their answers. Besides they are working on a FAQ, and that sounds as an excellent question for it.
Besides, what they are really pushing in the chat is their reputation for transparency, their dedication to having this whole thing going smoothly and transparently, and answering those questions would further that. I'll post once I hear anything, but you are welcome to join https://chat.golos.io/ (that would require separate login from steemit.chat), or even their telegram channel. Oh, and I'd be happy to see you join the english telegram channel.
I prefer the idea of increasing the functionality of Steemit to accommodate other languages and themes. A bunch of rebranded Steemits seems kinda goofy and uber-segregated.
Something tells me we are not going to be very welcome on this new chain.
lol
Take all the votes and my resteem , im still brewing a rant of my own
lol....
I just have to shake my head. Honestly man...if they would have come out saying "steem needs a developers chain that pays people who all share at least one language--computer coding. So today we announce Gitit!, the github clone with a steem clone back end!"...i would be shouting from the rooftops about how awesome an initiative this is. To me right now it is a simple fork with expectation of high payment up front and absolutely no guarantee that the chain will even remain maintained by devs.
I need a few hrs till i can get away from the kids and finish my post , but i cant stop thinking about this.
Even if we trusted these new developers completely, it still doesnt make sense..
Complaining about "only $130" for somebody elses creation, and now it seems they want take the same tactic to the next level..
They specifically talk about not wanting usd and wanting rubles, but if you gtranslate their site it says they want to peg to gold because of ruble devaluation..
We could easily do that here and i think i read comments from dan at some point alluding to a silver peg..
This is insanity, but i worry the ico will be a success anyway because bitcoin... Too many noobs with too many bitcoins and not enough sense :(
Arg. Phone keyboard sucks '<\walloftext>'
A steemgold and steemsilver peg, multilingual front end, could benefit steem instead of this short term tactic to cash some funding from the fork licence.
I see no other way to paint the pitcture tbh.
LOL, damn @officialfuzzy. You gotz me! I didn't catch the "parody" disclaimer until I read through the whole post and totally missed it on you title.
I was wondering... WTF are you thinking? You having a mental breakdown, exhaustion, tilting the bottle to much, etc etc LOL
Funny thing is... I wouldn't be opposed to having separate language based Steem chains AS LONG the only difference was just language change and not code/SBD/Vest. But in the end, I'd prefer to still see STEEM intact as one whole complete chain.
That being said... I'm flagging this post due to my stupidity and not knowing this was a parody until the very end!!! Shame on you :)
I dont even care so much about getting exact replicca of my account balance on steem. I just want chains that dont take the EASY route and have the balls to at least try to innovate if they plan on asking for my support and money.
If these guus can run a steem clone, they can make an innovative one that is a github instead...
Then id be telling them TAKE MY MONEY!
One thing ive learned in the past is that it doesnt matter if aproject with no responsibility but may demands sharesrops on you.
Do you still care abiut muse or play by chance? They earned millions and AT LEAST tried to make an innovative clone.
Fuzzy for witness on all 10 sidechains!
Well that is (kind of) the plan. Of course myself and the dev team(s) hired will have witnesses and will upvote ourselves. If we do this early on enough we can just keep gaining more power and never let the witnesses get voted out.
Forking awesome!
Chains for everybody, that's it, until there is no network at all :)
Jeez. You just get me man...
I can't wait for the Esperanto site to be live. Finally the global citizen's native tongue!
lol...
Hi don't think we have met in here, I'm still trying to understand it all. Never heard of any of it until I arrived here. I'm slowly understanding and getting somewhere with the site. Nice to meet you anyway :) oh and i love your name
thanks :)
I hope steem doesn't get murdered by so many vanilla clones that you forget which one I am on! :)
Very true think @officialfuzzy is a name I won't forget. Reminds me of fozzy bear. .. don't ask me why haha
hehe...
Hahahaha!!
When do I sign for the French Blockchain and take 20% of the funds ?! ;-)
Cool post giveaway ng a good perspective on the Rasputin proposal.
Just fork it silly!
Fuzzy, this is the funniest thing I've read today and you nailed every word of it. Totally agree. Steem is one blockchain to rule them all. Why fork when we can join hands?
Its only funny to those who have seen this shit happen and end terribly...and are past the point of letting it bother them ;)
Your elite veteran status in bitshares means you SEE HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF. Only this time they dont even pretend to innovate.
Dude I know this is a parody, but damn! Ok now I'm following you because I probably should have been from the beginning.
Would you mind taking a look at my most recent post? I'm very curious to know about your thoughts. It's not parody, but it is fun!
Man i honestly expected this to make me lots of enemies.
Thanks for the post. As was discussed in the other post, we both agree that heading in this direction is not going to benefit the Steem/it community in the long run.
Not to wish anything negative on the Golos group, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that they probably are getting in way over their heads. A large part of what is making the Steem/it community so successful is all the great minds and people that are collaborating on this project. I could be wrong, but I don't really see all those great minds packing up and leaving to join Golos. They will probably be able to find their own core group of good people, but after their initial launch - to a large extent they will be on their own.
This is an old post of mine, but I wanted to share because I think it is actually a viable solution that could (in theory) be implemented to handle the separate language based communities, each with their own currency - but all tied to the Steem blockchain/coin. It would obviously need to be implemented along with some front end changes as well, to separate out the posts to different UIs based on the language's power.
Alternate Steem Powers - Evolution of Steem - An Idea for Supporting Multiple Independent Steem Based Communities
Here is my opinion to the topic https://steemit.com/steemit/@borishaifa/brush-up-your-english-podtyani-svoi-angliiskii I think, you are right!
It should not be so hard to fix the language barrier issues than it requires a whole vanilla clone of steem for Russian. But then again you can't ask for 3 million ICO then...
Exactly! No one understands it here?! )
Someone must...
Jeez i didnt even promote it on the steem channels i usually share with.
Can i make a chain and call it Fresh Styling Chains
No but if you created "torrentit" the steem based piratebay torrent site for people to upvote and pay torrent magnet uploaders and give people your own vpn service for its tokens id say "lets interview you and get this project coverage" ;)
@officalfuzzy .. https://steemit.com/ru/@aleco/golos-kiber-fond-tolko-prosheptal-a-vokrug-uzhe-podnimayut-golos
Really @officialfuzzy? This is awesome(sarcasm). Honestly, I was thinking about this after reading that Golos Project thingy. But unfortunately, you just spoil my plan. haha! Nice2x!
Not sure if this applies to you...but welcome to the blockchain ;)
Btw...10 chains x 3 mil each is 30 million. I think we can afford to build your chain too.
Do one in my language too Golo! mind you I am Yoruba
ChiaCHi no entiendo nada
There is a problem in that non-English speakers have difficulty contributing value in a network dominated by English-speaking owners and users. Creating a spin-off is a drastic solution, but I'm not sure language or regionalisation tools will solve it either.
Thinking about it differently, whether the spin off fails or not, we can still pursue other solutions on the primary Steem Blockchain. If it succeeds, we have an uncensorable distributed august social network in Russia which is surely a great outcome?
Three words...google translate api.
Secondly...go ask bitshares community how may of the forks they helped pay for because of new community members joining up with big promises (but no responsibility to deliver). Then ask them how many have been abandoned (after the money was transferred of course)
Is there any example of a forum where language barriers were successfully overcome with the use of Google Translate?
there is no such place that fully overcomes language barriers at all, but a forum is far better than forcing people to all segregate based on language too.
google translate and similar services are the best we have and ONE day will be perfectly (or damn near) viable. We are probably only 5-10 years away on this which actually is NOT that long. So we need to focus on this solution as opposed to creating separate segregated chains.
I agree in general. I like the way the Chinese Steem community have handled the situation, with so many bilingual posts which are actually interesting to a Western audience.
But from a user experience perspective, it is a matter of requiring changed behaviour on the part of the user, which does not tend to be successful. The other issue is momentum. 5 years down the line Steem could have great solutions for language barriers but have lost momentum vs. alts that arose to address a market demand. But on balance, I more agree with you than disagree.
you have to do it now!))))
Awesomely funny!
