If you are focused on what is wrong on SteemIt, then you focusing on the negative.
Have you ever stopped to consider that angry post that made it to trending and got you riled up was written by somebody who is still here and making money. Maybe they just want to create a little conflict and gain from the attention. (Which is a good strategy)
Minnows come into SteemSpeak all of the time repeating things they've "read".
"Minnows can't earn here"
Untrue, I see minnows earning every day.
"People are leaving"
The site over all is growing as are the other front-ends. The blockchain is growing. Social Media and other free sites often have sky high churn rates.
People who use bidbots lose money...
Some of them do, some of them do not. It is a risk and there is no reason people shouldn't use them if they are creating interesting content and are willing to take the risk.
We do not have any Quality Content.
Not true and even if it were true, we are not a writing class or guild. Social media is about casual communication and connections. We need better front-ends to help people connect, and many of them are in the works. I don't care if you think you are Shakespeare, and very few investors do either.
There have been many attempts to reward content creators before and it always seems to be a difficult thing to do. We are experimenting.
Here is what I want to leave you with.
- Steem's economy is fueled by real people many of whom hadn't been in Crypto before. Steem is the gateway Crypto.
- Our coins transfer easily and cheaply and we are getting listed on new exchanges.
- We have more transactions than any other blockchain and haven't slowed down.
- There are new front-ends coming and many projects in the works.
- With various front-ends there is an ability to customize different experiences.
- There is a demand for privacy based, uncensored communities for all types of content.
- We are changing lives across the Globe each day.
- There are very few crypto project that are actually working, our may not be perfect, but it is functioning and has forward progress.
No, you will not get rich easily or quickly, you will have to fight for every Steem you earn!
If you have better options you should head there to earn.
Be careful what and who you believe. Some people can't see the forest for the trees.
It's an experiment, it is messy, it isn't broken. It isn't for everyone.
Amen!
We have discussed my views before on problems and solutions and entitlement and the power of networking.
I dabble in many cryptocurrencies and STEEM is the ONLY one I have been able to earn by investing my time. Sure it may not be paying the bills but I am adding to my core crypto portfolio by curating, authoring and networking just like everyone else here.
Amassed a little steem, made many new connections, and managed to get in at the ass end of the early adopters in an opportunity that could blow up.
No complaints here. Stay positive and be the change you want to happen like @whatsup
I got in at the spleen!
Nothing wrong with a STEEM Spleen!
Exactly.Stay active and do your best to be valuable part of the community.Pointing out bad parts of Steemit isn't a bad thing but just talking all the god damn time and "crying" about them wont make any change. All you can achive is getting people bored and even annoyed😂
I try not to focus just on the negatives if I post about something wrong with Steemit, but to create discussion - discussion is great and is the first step to change!
There is so much great content on here! I go back to the dark side (Facebook) every now and again and I get a headache. It seems as though the smarter ones leave Facebook and come here for better content and conversation!
You are so right about Steem being the gateway crypto - couldnt be more true for me! I was interested in cryto before Steem but never had the money to risk.. oh the life of a poor student. Im sure I wont make a fortune on here but I will learn alot and meet amazing people, have fun and earn a bit extra on the side. That sounds pretty amazing to me!
It does sound amazing.
I like this post for the simple fact everything is broken.
We are broken that is why we grow old and die.
Enough said.
Keep on steemin'
Of course that Steemit has many good things, otherwise we wouldn't be here. There is many bad things also but we are improving and Steemit is going at right direction.
@whatsup,
Yeah you got right points to talk! Steem is changing lives! No matter we earn less or none, I am thinking we are just doing a precious investment for the future!
Cheers~
I’m usually not a black and white thinker because so many issues have various shades of grey. But in the case of the Steemverse, it might well be a binary situation.
3-5 years from now? The Steemverse will have been a failed experiment OR it will have been wildly successful. I’m betting a bit of fiat and some of my time on the latter. If I’m wrong, I’m out a few thousand dollars. If I’m right, I’ll be doing quite well financially.
The risk to reward ratio is in good favor with your latter idea. And I'm betting on you... and all other forward looking Steemians. While we may not get rich quick, we will all be better off in the future.
You know, I had that same reflection yesterday. Most of that negativity is draining energies and wasting time. I think we should give more attention to quality posters and try to encourage new comers with curation. In time, the negativity will fade and hopefully we'll have a better enjoyable platform.
Agreed. I need to find new topics also. I focus on Steem Drama too often.
The best way that I can explain the analogy right now is steemit is like when the world was first created and power wanted power and dominance, there were battles and wars to be had over rights of countries and territories, I see no difference with what is happening right now here, and all in all its still brand new, like you say @drakos it will take time but hopefully the negativity will fade.
Steemit is full of wonderful people and posts, but it has some dark corners you may want to stay away from. You don't want to get into fights with some people here, as I have found out. It's still small and fairly new. It's changing all the time and I hope to see it change the world.
I've been fortunate enough to have avoided those dark corners for the most part. When you've been on the Internet long enough you should have a finely-tuned system in place to avoid seeing things you know you don't want to see. Curiosity has gotten the better of me in the early days, and I've suffered for it... yeah... now, I can spot something when I see it and have the confidence to say "NOPE."
And it's true about fighting. Some accounts will destroy people if they get in a fight with them. It's kind of a dangerous place, but I feel ok about it because I don't think I actively go around looking for fights.
Lots of people coming from twitter thinking they'll be able to sling the same mud without consequence are going to get burned bad.
Can you imagine if someone like Trump joined up? It would be total warfare :)
Oh... I can't imagine.......
Steemit is like the Wild, Wild, West. If you want to stay out of trouble, stay out of the dark saloons. And if you go looking for a fight, better strap on them six-shooters, because you will find one.
i agree with you. but not so on small part rather on that when you're a small fish you don't want to get into a fight or on the bad side of someone bigger, experienced with more power. but that's also in real life, so ...
At least you can't get physically hurt here. Take care
I think it's good to try and make things better but I'm not convinced things like bots are that big of a problem.
I agree that focusing too much on the negative is hurtful, I just wrote a post essentially saying the same thing. It’s important to point out issues though! But it should merely be a mean self of identifying what we want to improve. It’s hard to maintain that level of positivity all the time so I get it, but we gotta pick ourselves up and get back to what we can do to make things the way we believe they should be
i focus on whats wrong with steemit by building a better ui to help the negative. Its always nice to take the negative and give positive.
Good Point! If you are adding solutions... :) And yes, I know you are.
lol give good lol
Fantastic point!
Steemit is working.
It's working for many people, including me. It's saved my skin on many occasions.
Steemit is the gateway crypto!
There is quality content, it's just hidden in all this junk tha's being posted.
Don't like the junk? Don't include it into your feed. Stop following the crap and it will all get washed out eventually!
If I did that i wouldn't have a feed anymore.
Ha, could be true. But there are some that are worth following. I try to keep those I follow under 100 as it is hard enough trying to keep up with that many - devoting the time to curate those who do put out good content and support me. I might even consider whittling that list down even some more real soon as some are not all that active.
Great post - we all needed to be reminded to think of the positive from time to time
No, it certainly isn't broken.
But this was funny.
Absolutely right, this is social network platform and as name suggests, every field aspect communication will be there and only engagement will lead you forward, and as you informed in last post and informed in today's post, this platform is not for everyone, specially for those who came here for easy money, instead people who came here for easy money, in my opinion they will possibly face more tough time. This is like tortoise race, an race of patience. Thanks for sharing and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂
I agree man. There are things that need to be improved but we are part of preety new project which Steemit is.I don't get why there are so many people complaining about earnings🤔Most of them came here just for the money and not for possibilities which Steemit is giving to them. And earnings aren't that bad.I didn't give a shit about money when I came here. All that brought me on Steemit was the idea of this amazing platform that has no censorship and is set on blockchain, but I still got some JUST FOR ACTIVE CURATING.I wish one day we will create really healthy community which wont be focused on the money aspect. But we surely have a long road to go ahead of us.
i just came from steembot tracker, after placing a bid and noticed one of the bots just took half of everyones money somehow. kind of fitting (just randomly clicking on your name, and your post) as I clicked on your name by chance from the bid roster, and it shows you lost half your bid. how is this allowed? I thought it extra ironic since your post had to do with not concentrating on the negatives. im pissed off for you, though! wth?
I'm not mad at all. You win some rounds and in other rounds too many people put in bids. And you lose. I win more often than not!
Thank you for the concern though
im just wondering if you know why? everyone on the round lost money? Ive noticed there are some bots that never do that and some that do. ill NEVER use those bots again if i see that. not good at all for the community. thats alot of money to lose to a whale, when you invest so much into it. I can understand some winners and losers, but not every single bidder. just doesnt make sense to me.
When there are too many bidders in one round, everyone loses. If the bot has a $400 vote and the bids add up to more than that, everyone is going to lose as the bot will distribute the votes across the bidders. Also, on that bot they have a frontrunner which votes first and so that helps also.
After I promoted this post it received several votes from people who might not have seen it otherwise. Don't play with the bots if you expect to win everytime. That isn't how it works.
okay, well some other bots put you in the next round instead of making everyone lose. im still learning bout this, because i believe in bots especially for the newbies or people trying to get established, but all bots definitely are not equal. anyways thanks for the replies, and the post!
I agree. Steem is a great way to start understanding how the crypto world works!
Also, we should stop complaining and focus on testing or experimenting like you said. Focus on all the positivity that Steemit provides. It is important to make suggestions, Steemit is still in beta version and it certainly has room for improvement. However, our job is to focus on what we can bring to the community to make it better, by delivering the best content we can and curating!
I have always admired Gandhi's words to be the change one wants to see in the world. I do the same here. So far, many creative and interesting people supporting each others growing and creativity. Even if it were the only thing, it is much.
:)
There is a simple solution to all the negativity. The devs just need to change the front page from trending to "hot".
The stuff on the hot tab moves faster and so you get exposed to so much more.
People get mad seeing the same post sitting on the front page day after day accruing money - they wouldn't get that impression if the hot tab was the home page.
I tend to agree that the solution might be as easy as a UI update, but getting the devs to do anything... isn't so simple. :)
I am here for the long haul and positive about it. Coming on one year and every time I have thought about leaving I have brought more people into it like the illustrious @zekepickleman! We have a blast talking at the Crypto Pub about all the great people we interact with...I know you have come up a couple times :)
The equation is simple. Investment of time and being courteous along with having fun literally pays off!
Great perspective on this!
Illustrious, hahahha hardly! Thanks for bringing me to this place though for real.
It's the hair brother! All in the hair!
This is really apt. It's a battle of survival, and the earliest bird gets the worm. Those coming behind can still get theirs, just need to put in real effort. I'm almost a month here, and it hasn't been easy. Thankfully, there are contests, where everyone can stand as an equal, and the brightest shine through....
I have no problem with this, because it's similar to what we face in our everyday lives.
I'm learning and growing, slowly but surely. Challenge accepted.
Hi whatsup,
Sound like me 1 years ago when I first started in Steemit looking at what is wrong and what would not work.
The past 1 month, I turned my thinking around and blogged everyday and communicated with other bloggers.
If I can have 1700 followers then, everyone else can who can write much better than me.
No excuse.
The big question is will the devs put enough into it to make it quality enough to outdo the next guy, who in this case might be the same guy (Dan Larimer), who will come along and take the wind right of the sales of Steemit which has a mediocre commitment to making this a quality platform? IOW, will Steemit become the next MySpace while what EOS comes up with will be the Facebook that people flock to in the pay-for-content space?
Competition is good. EOS will bring excitement and also disappointment. It is also a state-based system.
World Dominance, maybe not. A solid investment, I think so.
Are you powering down to so you can hire bots?
No, I always keep a power down going for liquidity. I usually power it right back up.
Ok. I was powering down to hire bots. I am pretty sure that was a mistake. I also converted that 6 steem you gave me into sbd. I think that was a mistake as well. I think steem is undervalued and sbd overvalued.
You should have boosted a post with one of the bigger bots. And got some visibility. Yes, I agree Steem has more room to rise than SBDs, but they do pump every so often.
It's a bit complicated but If I put all of my steem power into a bots I think I would come out with less steem power than when I started so I think you can lose money on bots if you are using your steem power to pay for them.
i do think we should do a better job of helping people find quality content published on steemit. apart from that i am in sync with what you have listed out
People who invest quite some time into the platform are getting rewarded financially. 5 months into Steem, I've started earning 4$ a week from the comments only. In 4-5 months from now, it would be 40$, or 100$ a week. It's challenging at the start if you didn't invest a shitload of money into it, but some time into the platform, and you are starting earning substantial amount of money from the platform.
Ain't that the truth! Blockchains fascinate me more than cryptocurrencies, because the latter is too volatile, kind of like the following Homer Simpson GIF: https://giphy.com/gifs/simpsons-cryptocurrency-bitcoin-RdZJKKyXVMb5DOD024
How could something so volatile help an economy, I thought. Steemit really opened my eyes to those possibilities outside of just currency speculations.
The kind of thinking like your post suggests is how we should go forth as a community, if we share the same sentiment that Steemit can benefit us as a whole. Your post is absolutely refreshing after the numerous do-don't-do issues I've been reading in Steemit lately.
Cheers.
Yep not really for everyone and yet I'm still here. Basically people rant because we're hurt from not getting the upvote we think we deserve. And so people use bid bots and then other people hate on bid bots and such. Oh well.
Upvoted, resteemed and followed! Nice wording. Yes, Steem is just beginning. I been hear nearly two years now and by far its the most fascinating social content blockchain that I have ever experienced or seen. Sure Steem is not flashy like some coins are but our chain has the most daily blockchain transactions in the world and one of the highest user bases in Crypto. Other projects talking the talk but Steem is walking the walk. Steem has a large first mover advantage in Social Media Content. All it will take now is Steem developers to launch SMTs, Hives and HF #20. Other Steem interfaces will only get better. Then mass adoption rather an SMT or Steemit.com itself.
Honestlybtheres so much good on Steemit and if you can’t see that go back to traditional social media. What little we earn here (or lot) is way more than the nothing we earned posting elsewhere. I am so glad to be on Steemit andvthe friendships I’ve made on here! Steemit Strong!
Agree....now is the time buckle down and invest in Steem and put in the work in Steemit. We all will be glad we put in the effort, $, and time 1 year later when Steem is at $200 +.
Yes!
Lovely Thursday to you!
Why do I feel like my questions yesterday in discord inspired this post. LOL
Overall I agree with the sentiment, and im definitely in this game for the long haul. Steem has been one of my favorite projects for quite some time and I believe it has to potential to be a top 5 coin. Its currently the fastest blockchain who's mainnet has been stress tested. My only serious critique of the platfofm is whether there is enough incentive for new people to run nodes. I personally come from the school of thought that everybody using the network should at least somewhat be contributing to the stregnth/stability of the network, but with STEEM this does not seem like it would make economic sense for anyone who is not already a whale o do so
Yeah, I don't think the intent was ever that nodes be run by noobs. I'm not sure though.
So true. All the doomsdayers and critics of steemit don't really reflect and realize consider how far its come. I particularly like this statement "If you have better options you should head there to earn".
It is a long distance run. However wants to make big money in short time, won't last long on Steemit.
I thing we should ignore negativity in the community, here we are a respectable family now. Many people are getting income for their families. We should be a helping hand for others.
Well some people earn by placing engaging comment, the thing about steemit is even if you can't produce contents you can still earn, and I will never complain of not earning because I'm a minnow, one thing I've so far come to know is that bid bot doesn't really bring returns unless you're hoping to get visibility.
I appreciate the positive perspective. A lot of those comments are ones that I hear often. Some are ones that I've said. Regardless, things in this experiment are moving forward and the people who stick it out are the ones who can make money.
i saw most of the time 90% trending post are lame.
Who cares? Follow people who aren't lame.
checks to see if you're following me
sees that you are
doesn't feel lame
This post has received a 16.12 % upvote from @booster thanks to: @whatsup.
STEEMIT IS MY LIFE
I focus on the future, yes steemit has flaws to be worked out but it's only in it's infancy but this don't mean we should ignore whats wrong I'm here for the ride steemit is here to stay.
so true ,bro . i know how hard is to earn money here ,but if you are want something badly , then stop wondering - start doing . Your post motivated me , cuz im all the time stoned 24/7 , red eye lazy ass ,what else can i say ? :D
thanks mate ,real deal post :)
What can I say except that hell yeah , totally agree with you. This is an experimentation - doesn't work for everyone but it works, still.
