Steem Crawl
Check it out here.
Why did I build it?
I enjoy reading Steemit. I think the content posted here is singularly creative. But I wanted to browse Steemit content with less distraction.
More specifically, I wanted to be able to judge content for its quality, and not for its monetary value, nor did I want to judge it by its popularity.
So - with inspiration from the original site (respecting the terms of the license) - I have developed an alternative website with slight modifications that I found more fitting (I also disliked having to scroll down for more content to be displayed, and instead added a next button).
Thought it was more appropriate than whining about features I disliked.
In the words of Balaji Srinivasan:
"Don't argue about regulation. Build Uber. Don't argue about monetary policy. Build Bitcoin. Don't argue about it. Build the alternative. "
The more challenging part for me was working with Steem's blockchain (completely new to blockchains) - which was an interesting experience!
Would love to hear your opinion.
If there are features you'd like to see, or ways I can improve the site please let me know.
Steem on!
I intend to finance server cost with adverts.
Showing the money value of post is a distraction. It should be seen on the post page and nnot the crawl.
Very nice incentive steemcrawl. I am sorry this didn't get as much attention as some other stuff on here. Honestly I would just keep it up. If you continue to post updates like I did with squeek, you will very likely continue to gain followers and supporters!
Thanks for that!
nice idea but if you do advertise on people content, somehow using their content to win money, is it ok ?
Think of it like google or bing crawling websites, and placing ads on their site.
The content is public (on blockchain), I'm providing another way to see the content.
And placing ads on my site.
steem is built revolutionnize this model :D
I completely missed this post until my google alerts told me about my name appearing there this morning (a week later, wd google)..
I like the idea of removing the bias of seeing votes/$
If unbiased content is the goal maybe change the default view from trending. Maybe a randomized selection of new, active and trending posts from the last 24hrs ?
Not a fan of potentially advertising and making money off the content outside of steemit, but theres nothing I can do about that really and it was bound to happen sooner or later..
Upvoting for visibility, and because the effort and idea is clearly worth more then $1.24 regardless of the potential future advertising issue imo.. Will follow this project :)
