How I Prepared to be a Full Time Steemian

in #steemit7 years ago

I didn’t just jump head first into this, I’m a pussy!

Becoming a full time Steemian wasn’t an overnight thing, I was working daily on Steemit for 6 months before I made it my only job. In addition to building up a reputation, following and finding my niche, I did a ton of preparation in the real world too.

By the time I quit my job, Steem and SBD were both at an all time high, and I knew they would come crashing down hard. I wasn’t lulled to a false sense of security that hey I post some self portraits and I earn 300€ per day!

I paid off my credit card dept and all the other bills I had and I paid my rent for six months in advance, so I wouldn’t be homeless as soon as the cryptos started to drop. I also sold quite a lot of crypto during December and early January so that I had enough Fiat to last me some time even if I couldn’t sell cryptos for a while because the price is so bad. I was also preparing to up my technical gear because I knew that would be my life line from now on.

When there was those insane after Christmas sales, I went out and bought basic consumer goods like shampoo (dry shampoo, lots of dry shampoo, dry shampoo gives me life!), body lotion, dish soap, toilet paper and tampons.

I also stocked up the food pantry, buying everything that doesn’t spoil fast, like beans, pasta, rice, flours, and oat milk. I also bought about 4 kilos of ground moose meat to the freezer, got gifted some more premium moose meat, and got all kinds of berries from mother.

And most importantly, I stocked up on Gin, because if times get rough, it will warm me and be my companion.

Essentially, I was preparing for a nuclear war and zombie apocalypse. So of course I also have guns, bullets, and a getaway car stored in the woods, doh.

Many might think that these preparations were funny and unnecessary, but they gave me comfort and the courage I needed to really pull the plug on the real life full time job.

Haven’t regret my choice even for a second.

Sort:

congrats! you really have guts! all the best for your decision!

Oh my world!!! You really thought this through Eve!
I am just starting out and I honestly feel challenged by this post. While I didn't have a job to quit like you did, I didn't think it through as a fulltime opportunity, for me it's jst another social platform with possible rewards.
I definitely need to re-think after reading this.

I'm glad I bumped into your blog today!

Xo

I had to prepare because going from a steady job(though minimum wage), to completely relying on Steemit and the crypto market, is a very high risk. But if you have nothing to loose, then of course you have everything to gain.

I couldn't agree more.
I will most likely be bugging you for tips seeing that you are already doing this fulltime.

I'm pretty sure you have alot to teach & I'm willing to learn.

I'll be back once I have thoroughly gone through your blog.

Xo

Hey, sweetie! If you ever need prepper tips, any kind of help or battle proven man who "got your six" ....and maybe some extra firepower in case of SHTF/WROL or zombie apocalypse, you know where to find me ;)

A girl could always use a northern mythology worthy of a warrior god in her corner.

The gps on the car always points north ;)

That´s some mighty foresight right there Eve!
I am preparing to do something similar, but I´ll be waiting for the right time to go all in.(That would be during the next crypto bull run, and when I have my basic needs covered so I can steemit all day long)
Kudos to you!

That's actually an excellent plan you made. By paying all your bills in advance, you can concentrate on writing and cope with the ups and downs of the price.

That's a pretty clever move to stockpile during the high time. Convert the profit into fiat and diversify to other assets.

They say in Holland "Een goed begin is het halve werk" What means something like "If you start of well prepared, your half way there " :) You done good !!!

That is a good saying, and I think it's true, or at least helps a lot :)

Thanks for sharing, great article. I've smashed the upvote button for you!

If you are looking to get hold of some crypto without investing or mining, look into https://www.crowdholding.com. They are a co-creation platform were you get rewarded for giving feedback to crypto startups on the platform. You can earn Crowdholding's token as well as DeepOnion, ITT, Smartcash and many other ERC-20 tokens.

Smart move!

I am smart 🤓😎

Can't deny that after this post. ;)

Eve the Prepper Good on you for taking the jump. It must be a nice feeling being out of debt with rent sorted. Mine is killing me. I think next month i'll be putting my kidney on the market.

Yeah, I was in debt for years, so it feels really damn good to be really living off of my own money now :D

If you are not an alcoholic, I'm sure someone would pay you good money for the kidney :D

Are you interested? or have you not broken open the Gin yet.

Mine is still doing very good, I'll get back to you in ten years :D

This was a great read.

I was almost on the same trend as you - but I chickened out.

Last year was really tough for me and my family, as we lost a massive amount property and belongings to a natural catastrophe.

At the time I was living abroad, but decided to come back home to help my family - at least as some sort of cheerleader.
I was just starting to realize the steemit potential when I got a job offer. Everybody was so happy for me and calling me "lucky" - as jobs are difficult to find here.
So I couldn't say no, could I?

Sadly my field is a bit soulcrushing and I sort of fell out of love with it.

I have been regretting my choice ever-since.
I lacked the guts (or balls or whatever) to do it - but reading these stories really gets me hoping that someday I too, might be brave enough.

Thanks for sharing!

I don't think you have anything to regret. You went to help your family, got a job and you can always earn extra with Steemit and save it for when you really are ready to do something else than your current job.

dayum girl, your perfect. this is exactly what i did when i was in that 14 SBD life, i got UPGRADES. props for going fulltime! :)

In memory of the 14 dollar SBD and 8 dollar Steem, we had a wonderful ride, we hope to see you in the next life.
Love, All Steemians.

weirdly i felt this track once you said that.. ryde or die steem ;)

Amazing! No way, I think everything you did was necessary haha , well done! Regards from Venezuela! Followed and upvoted

this feels like I am reading hobbit again. Bilbo Baggins lives peacefully inside of his nice and comfortable hobbit-hole. His basements are stocked with great food and drink. His pipe is always filled with finenest tobacco. A true hobbit's dream. But one day crazy wizard and an army of dwarves appears out of nowhere and invites themselves inside of Bilbo house. his foods and drinks are wasted on greedy dwarves. and then crazy wizard decides that bilbo is going on adventure...

Yeah, that's basically my life :D I'm all nice and comfortable all by myself at home, until someone convinces me that adventures are the way to go. Damn it, lies, all lies!

How are you earning 300€ per day!??

I am not! But I was when both Steem and SBD were at an all time high in late Desember-early January 😅

Many might think that these preparations were funny and unnecessary, but they gave me comfort and the courage I needed to really pull the plug on the real life full time job.

What you were doing was giving yourself the freedom to fail which you always need to try anything new.

Oh, failure is no option. But there are many things I can not do anything about, i.e. the price of steem.

You should write a series of travel guides and lifestyle self help books called Crazy Adventures, Well Prepared.

Great timing on the crypto sale, too!

A self help guide from a person who hates self help guides.

Sounds like it’s gonna be a winner!

Just throw a few pictures in and you can't go wrong.

I've been doomsday prepping as well for the last year or so. I'm new to Steemit, but have been growing my following elsewhere and working on other income streams. I'm currently looking at making the jump at the end of May - (woohoo / yikes!). Smart thinking of stocking up on supplies while you had money. I think ill start doing that as well.

It's always good to have multiple sources of income, keep some around if you decide to become a full time Steemian :)

Yes, thanks for the advice :) Hopefully Ill become a full-time something other than my current full-time Corporate mess!

I first thought you're serious but must be a joke, isn't it? 😇

It´s amazing to know a person like you who are prepared for anything. In my sense, you are a fighter and for all we know, it is worth it that you are prepared! I might do the same. We never know how politics affect us and just with a ping, the war is right before your door. I´m with you, you are on the right path in my opinion. Cheers!!!

ohhh the Gin section looks inviting :P

I especially approve of the Gin. In all seriousness I'm glad to hear you approached it so sensibly and were prepped for the downturn. You post good content consistently and get great responses so even in tougher times people will still appreciate that. Personally I'm probably going to step away from Steemit for a while. My posts these days just feel like I'm pissing into the wind with little to no responses. If there was an infinite amount of time I'd happy post away, comment, resteem and invest all the time I could. As it is IU have to balance my time with other areas of my life and Steemit just isn't giving me much reason or incentive to stay on here at the moment. Hopefully things will pick up again soon 🙂

There is nothing really wrong with your content, but it does take a lot of time to get yourself a following and you have to be constantly active to get that good response. If you ever feel like picking my brain about all this, hit me up on the chat :)

I'm totally stealing that line for my new business cards. "Dave Kavanagh Photography, theres nothing wrong with my work but...."

I'm sorry 😅

You keep proving that you are more than just sexy. Preparation is everything. I find it inspiring! I don't believe i am saying that in a post with food pictures ....instead of you naked . But this is the best post you ever made . wow.

Thank you, I’d like to think that my success is actually more due to my brain than my body :) I’m trying to write more posts like this one.

I'm sure that gin will come in handy.

Opening up Blockfolio sure makes me want to drink a lot of gin...

Thanks for sharing! It sounds so easy 'I'm becoming a full-time Steemian', but without some thorough planning it's just... SCARY! To me it's comparable with becoming a freelancer, in the way you don't know when the amount of clients will drop, haha, but then again I never bought beans, that's something I would only do when I were really scared :')

Anyway, I'm sure your decision will pay off, literally, STEEM can only go up from here :-) The pay-off right now is you having an amazing time and earning money doing what you love <3 Many people can only dream to ever get at that point.

I've never been a freelancer so I was scares, and I like beans! :DD

Steem can go down a lot more from this, but let's hope it doesn't. But yeah, I won't be stopping even when the times are a little rougher.

LOL who loves beans! :D

I hope it doesn't go down either. I'm hopeful. Bitcoin is getting nearer to the bottom and for now reality seems to be we go up and down by the movements of Bitcoin - even though it makes no sense.

Enjoy your beans in the meanwhile! :')

This might sound unnecessary and exaggerated but it was necessary and I bet that it was pretty hard too.
I completely understand you, I'm kinda trying to do the same here; steemit is my everyday now.
I guess it's time for looking for the gin and the guns now.

The gin helps in times like this, and also gets the creativity flowing if you feel blocked ;)

This is epic. This whole time I didn’t know you were a prepper. This is also a great technique to help protect yourself from inflation.

I was more trying to protect myself from starvation, but inflation works too!

Wish I had made my decisions this wisely when I was young and with such good preparation. Used to be way to spontaneous, so I fell on my nose quite a few times. Better now... well, even a dog learns things eventually, right?

With a place in the countryside, you might want to also keep a few chicken. They are easy to get through the winter and you always have fresh eggs. And a chicken noodle soup... in case the flu gets you 🤒

Planing that road trip yet?

I’d like to be more spontaneous but I’m not, I need a few days notice to do anything. Other than leave to countryside, I’m ready for that in a few minutes.

I’ve been bugging my dad for years that we should get chickens, I think he is warming up to the idea 😁 We sure as hell have the space for them...

Roadtrips are for summertime, and we are still getting more snow in here 😝😁

Haha... well, I think its better to prepare for a few days than throw yourself into something and have to fix it for weeks or month after that. Your way is better, believe me!

Arrrgh.. I'm a little tired of the cold by now. Hope to see no more snow around here any time soon. Want to get the Rocket out on Sunday 🏍yippie!

"Ei oo kiire valamiisa maalimassa" prepare for a few days/10 years ... some things are worth the wait .

Some people are worth it :)

This is RAD. Good for you!!! I'm always in favor of preparing properly, better safe than sorry. Doing what you need to do to give yourself comfort and courage - you're speaking my language :) wishing you all the success!

I always prepare for trips with insane packing and end up not using half the stuff, so sometimes it would be better to not try to prepare for everything like it is the end of the world :DD

Oh wow. I hadn't realised that you already went full time into steemit. That is so cool. Also very impressive, I know a few people working towards that goal who have been at it for the past 6 months and aren't even remotely close to achieving what you have.
I think you are a perfect example of how producing creative and original content on a regular basis is still the best strategy for success on steemit.

Congrats on going full time! I think your preparations were very practical and smart. Crypto is still so volatile you absolutely need to have a buffer in case of hard times. I would do the same! Though I would add a couple bottles of whiskey to that gin collection.. but that's just me ;)

You just thought that I’m some weirdo who magically has time to spend all day every either on steemit or creating content for steemit 😝 I’ve been full time Steemian for about two months now, and there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that people don’t realise. You can tell your friends that I’m succesful in Steemit just because I’m moderalety hot girl posting selfies 😝

I’ll might need to add whiskey for my collection, just for friends 🤗

Haha! No I just thought you were spending every free moment you weren't at work dedicated to steemit although I did wonder how you were able to fit so much work into your free time. I thought you were just super-organised :)
I've seen enough other accounts on steemit of pretty girls posting selfies to know that is not a recipe for success.. you need more than that which you have.
I did a selfie project once.. just 1 picture and it took days to do from planning to execution and that was only one picture! so I appreciate how much you have to do behind the scenes :)
Yes, add whiskey! you can never go wrong with a bottle of whiskey in the house 😀

That is what I did for the first 6 months on Steemit, every spare time I had, went to greating content and communicating with other steemians.

Shhh, let them believe that girls can make it with just selfies, that leaves more for me ;)

Is the selfie you talk about the one you have as your avatar? I like it!

Ok I won't tell anyone ;) that's the bit I often fail at... the communicating bit.
Yes it's the selfie I use as my avatar that I'm talking about and thanks :)

Are you on the chat?

I remember seeing it in a post too and I think it was one of the first things I ever saw from you 🤔

You mean steemitchat? Sometimes. I think the only time I used that one was in my intro post and one I posted yesterday where I talk about how I made it.
It must be my intro post you are thinking of.

Haha oh come on you are not a pussy... you stocked up on Gin... and guns?! You are badass as always.

That coming from someone who bought a fucking flame thrower 😂😂

haha still waiting on that one!
not too fond of point #1 made in the latest update I received...

I believe you will never get that machine, or if you do, it's toy and only has light effects and sounds :D

just wait until you see the DLive videos...

Brave move, I wish you all the best! (that includes more Louboutins :D)

P.S. I don't know how the tax system in your country works but don't forget that aspect :)

Yes, I do have to pay taxes, but only when I sell the crypto for Fiat.

Haha! Stocking up on gin! And good gin too! Girl after my own heart. Good for you for prepping for the long haul. Smart move.

Fellow gin lover, any recommendations on what gin I should try next? :P

Being a Brit, I think all the best Gin in the world comes out of London. I would recommend the following: Sipsmith, East London Gin although my all time favourite is Monkey 47 Sloe Gin - you might have already tried these. If so, let me know, i've got plenty more up my sleeve ;-)

That is kinda why I was asking ;) I actually think I haven't tried any of those! I'm probably gonna get my ass to London somewhere in the spring and I'm definitely hauling several bottles of Gin back with me 😂

I'm moving back in May. Currently living in SE Asia! Where are you based, lady?

I’m from Finland, the land we that tasty Napue Gin is made :)

Ahhh amazing! Let me know how you get on with your London adventures!
