RE: an open letter to @ned

in #steemit7 years ago

If I spent the rest of my life, raking in a few bucks here and there on Steemit in my spare time, I would be happy with that, because I'm making a small payout for doing things where the money isn't relevant to me. Writing, music, and art are all passions of mine that I've been participating in my whole life with virtually no pay. So this is an added bonus, and incites a sense of accomplishment for me. This being said, I've been reading some people's concerns, especially with the growing community, and how the platform will respond to this. It's not good to say the least. I would personally, really love to make two bucks a post for the rest of my life. I'm afraid I'll drown with the minnows if these issues aren't addressed. Thank you for being brave and acting as a voice for us. We depend on people like you. Hopefully your voice will not only be heard, but also considered. Thanks for this. @futuremind

Spreading out the distribution of tokens on the platform actually increases the value from my perspective. The more people making, retaining, and using the tokens, ultimately the more valuable they become. The U.S. dollar didn't get to be a "global reserve currency" by people not using it. Personally I think the U.S. dollar is worthless, but the economic principals remain. Fungibility and use require decentralization of the currency and that only happens if we keep building up the platform so that it's something worth using. I hope you are finding a nice digital home here, and just to put things in perspective, I made pennies and the occasional dollar here and there for months when I first started, but a year later all of that STEEM has gone up 40-50x in value. I have some lofty hopes for the platform, but I think they are realistic. :)

I really like your perspective on this. What I personally do, is take the 50/50 default payout, and refuse to touch my steem power, allowing for half the payout to stay in the platform. I do believe in the future of Steem enough to leave it there. It would be senseless and foolish to draw it out anyway when you understand what steem power actually is, and how it affects not only the functionality of your account, but also the potential ability for you to earn much more. That being said, I feel comfortable drawing my 50 percent SDB and diversifying my hodl. This also gives me the comfort of knowing that I have control and possession of half of my earnings here. If my logic seems flawed to anyone, I am very open to opinion and suggestion. I'm still learning as I go. I do believe the fundamentals are crucial to success with Steemit. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

These are my thoughts exactly

It's nice to know I'm not alone!
