💰Pennies for Thoughts! Why Auto-Voting is NECESSARY (+ STEP BY STEP HOW TO GUIDE)💰

in #steemit7 years ago

Read this if you want to hack earning more and rewarding more at the same time.

Last time I checked the day only had 24 hours and there is are a billion posts on here. WTF?

I hope you have a sense of humor and an upvote ready 'cuz we're kicking this bad boy off!

mecuteedit.jpg

Look at you, you good conscious-ed human you, wanting to give more to the world! High-5 for karma points!

karma points.jpg

Pssssttttt the truth is, between you and I (of course), you also want to earn more.

I know it and you know it so don't try to deny it. That's why you're here! This is good! Now that we've got that covered, let's both start earning more right now!

Oh for goodness grapes... I'm not your sleazy salesman, I'm not selling you anything, trust me. I just know something that can help so if you want in on it, keep reading.

not selling.jpg

What if you could earn more while the posts you like also earn more? That's very generous of you to think of others too!

You go on with your day, you earn more and they earn more... they get rewarded for their passion driven hard work that you like enough to give your vote to and, you don't have to do any hard work to reward them, double win.

Sound interesting? Keep with me!

Do you feel like you just don't have enough time in the day? ... I know I hear people say that all of the time.

So, HOW do we MAKE MORE TIME?

richard-is-charmed-by-ben-678x381.jpg

Ready for some "radical candor?!"

The truth is going to be pretty intense!

Are you sure you're ready for it?

OK... Here it is...

THERE IS NO MORE TIME!

You've got 24 hours in a day. You have 7 days in a week. That is it. You have to be smarter than time itself to win this round my friends.

So what are we going to do? You can only read so much in a lifetime...

We apply technology. We adapt. We make the system work for us.

We start using what's available to us.

One of the things I get asked most is:

"how I have so much time to create so much high quality content."

You know me, I'm not putting no 2-minute effort, one-off drop shots up here with a hashtag, I'm pouring my heart and soul into my blog and spending tons of my time doing so while trying to maintain all of the things I do (and turn around and write about) in the real world.... yikes!

ain't nobody.gif

Shouldn't that kind of commitment of time, effort and dedication to the platform be rewarded?

I think so and I think that the creative and passionate authors on here that are putting their hearts into their work on here deserve our upvotes!

motoki-maxted-excitedly-dances-a.jpg

I'm sorry to bring out the elephant in the room people but holy jeep-us. This is crazy! The system as is right now is out of control.

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE BAZILLION POSTS EVERY DAY!

I'm #sorrynotsorry, t's not.

Not unless you're a cyborg which I am not.... yet.

WATCH OUT.jpg

So what do we do?

AUTOVOTING!

idea.jpg

I used to frown on this and think it was some sort of robotic cheating but you know what?

I owe so much of where I am now to people who believed in me enough to mark that button that does all the work for them.

I started off being lifted into the air with glitter and balloons by people who autovoted for me early on.

lifted.jpg

See technology is pretty nifty nowadays did you know?

VOTING POWER DOESN'T COST YOU ANYTHING TO USE BUT YOU CAN GAIN REWARDS FOR USING IT SO DON'T HOARD IT, USE IT!

steem.png

By the way, you have 100% voting power that costs 2% per 100% full vote and replenishes 20% every single day!

Are you following?

So, now that we've talked about your voting power, do you know that when you use it, you get rewarded?

That's what a curation reward is. You get back a reward for giving your FREE vote to a post!

There are two ways I see it:

MO- MONEY!

money.jpeg

You can follow people who you know do well and get high payouts because if you autovote on them, you'll be sure to earn curation from their successful posts.
Same goes for trails and fanbases.

FANS!

fans.jpg

You like the author for whatever reason or you like their content so you just want to support them!

Easy right?

Now just to reiterate, your voting power regenerates, replicates, reproduces every day for free without you doing anything!

That means you have votes constantly available to you! Start clicking that UPVOTE!

How to Autovote?

Screenshot (422)_LI.jpg

  • Sign up on Steemauto.com using your username and either password or posting key.

Screenshot (423)_LI.jpg

  • Everything goes through SteemConnect which is an authenticated protector sitting on the blockchain. If you want to be extra careful, follow these steps:
  1. Go to your wallet on Steemit.com
  2. Click on permissions.
  3. The first option is "Posting" click on "show private key" on the right.
  4. Input Steemit password to get private key.
  5. Copy the private key.
  6. Paste private key into registration for Steemauto.
  7. Follow the sign up by authorizing Steemauto to be able to post using your controls
  8. Tada! You're registered!

Screenshot (424)_LI.jpg

Once you are in:

Screenshot (429)_LI.jpg

  • On the left, click on "Fanbase"
Add a username of your favorite authors such as @heart-to-heart (hey that's me!) 💖💖💖💖

Afraid of commitment?
Add anyone you want to support here, you can pause it or delete the auto upvote at any time!

Screenshot (430).png

Once you've added a user:

  • Click on settings on the side of their name.

Screenshot (431)_LI.jpg

  • Choose percentage, (higher percentage= higher curation rewards!)
  • Choose frequency (how often you want to vote on them.)
  • Make sure it shows "enabled" (green like the screenshot!)
  • Save!

Screenshot (432)_LI.jpg

Set up your settings on main page to decide how much voting power you want to use before it pauses. (I have mine on 70% so if I use 30%, my voter will pause until it rebuilds again.

Easy right?!

BENEFITS:

  • Now a couple of things are happening, by more voting happening this way, the platform grows because more of the digital worth is moving around = great for Steemit and for Steemians!

  • The authors you have chosen are being supported and now you don't have to worry about missing their posts while having more time to focus on whatever was keeping you from being able to keep up in the first place.

  • You can check what you are voting on at steemd.com/@username.

(I check this frequently and go to the posts I have voted on to read them/check them out!)

I also use @ginabot to tell me what's going on with my account! See my how to use Gina post here!

VOTE FOR PEDRO! (I mean, Cece, I mean... me.)

upvote me.jpg

Hey, shameless, self-plug here since at present, this post has already taken over 4 and a half hours of my life...

If you're reading this (my post) and you value my content, I wouldn't be mad at you for adding me to your autovote account! It's really easy to set up and will only take a couple of minutes to do! ;)

Why me?

I genuinely put my heart and soul into my posts no matter what topic they are on. I try to inspire and give you something of value that can impact your lives! Check out my blog to travel through my eyes, eat exotic, home-cooked, delicious meals, find inspiration in the world and see inside of my soul!

I'm committed to sharing my heart with you. Are you ready to take this to the next level?

I know I can be high maintenance so if you don't have time for me, let technology take over for you!

I HOPE YOU VALUE THIS POST!

mepineappleheartedit.jpg

If you got something from this post, let me know by throwing me an upvote, leaving a comment or adding me to your auto-vote account!

If we do our best to reward content creators who are putting in their time and energy into valuable content, this will help keep the value of Steem high, the community filled with posts people actually want to read and authors repaid for their contributions therefore willing to continue contributing which is what our big ocean needs to succeed!

I'm ending here at 10 minutes due to attention span constraints I know we all have with the limited amount of free time in a day!

STEEM ON FELLOW STEEMIANS :)

My heart's in charge here. I write about what I feel in the moment. What inspires me, what drives my passion. Here are some of my recent additions to get to know me better:

Thanks for sharing these awesome tools for us to use and make our lives easier and at the same time the whole platform benefits from it too.
Great post, like always @heart-to-heart

Awww you are so welcome! I know how much it helps me out so I am always wanting to share what works for me! I hope you find some use from it, it's so easy to set up and takes a load of stress off of my back knowing my voting power is out there, doing good even if I'm really busy ;)

YES!!! UPVOTE! RESTEEM! Dancing in the apartment out of joy...cheeeeck.
Thank you for enlightening us and giving us a tool to automate our lifes. Finally I can get some time over :D

I know right? Goodness gracious it can get intense on here. If I read everything I ever wanted to read, I would never leave my screen so at least this helps a bit ;) I love supporting the vegan movement in any way I can and this certainly helps <3 I'm happy to hear this is going to rock your world too! <3

Yeah it really feels good to get some automation going. We should work smarter not harder. And there is no shame in doing what you can to make that happen <3

I 100% agree my dear, even if it gets me into some bad books of others who don't share our sentiments ;) I think there is no harm in putting a vote behind people you trust and value :)

You explain it very well! I'm already using it but since I ❤ this post. I become your.....

unnamed (1).png

Hahaha this is great :) Thank you! I'm happy to hear you liked my post enough to put me on the list =D

LoL You totally Rock!! Make me sooo Happy!

My autovoter got messed up and I've been super sloppy about getting back in there and setting up the keys again. ... I think @mitchmiester will be by any time to toss on his .001 ... His autovoter is still running.

We just wrapped up our vacation. I'll be back to posting soon. I promise. I think. ;-)

Edit: Nope. His autovoter is broke too ... bother. /me goes off to locate keys etc etc.

Aww I completely hear you! I used to have 3 and 2 of them went offline without me even knowing it! Luckily, Steemauto is really easy so shouldn't be too hard to get you both back on board there ;)

Vacation sounds wonderful, I am sure there will be plenty to share (I hope!) :)

This is very detailed and of course, funny. Hahaha. I think the reward work best for those with sizeable amount of voting power. Even though you get to miss reading the post you curate automatically, you still get to influence it and both party wins. Most people go for this options anyway, and I think it is smart.

Hey valentine! You're right, the higher amount of voting power works out with higher rewards for both the author and the curator, but everyone starts somewhere :) I think that this is so much better for people like me who have tons on their plate but still want to share their votes! I hope this will help Steemit thrive <3

It will definitely help, and it will spread it too. You can still be here, while not being here. Hahaha. I hope to build my voting power too. I hope I get to your level. Haha

Girl, you really are fun. I had a great time reading your blog, I was laughing and learning at the same time, isn't that awesome?. Of course I had to google a couple or words here and there, English is not my first language. By the way, that Pedro.... ummm, I don't know, I rather vote for you. Keep enjoying life and sharing smiles. Have a mega fantastic day.

Haha aww you're too sweet :) Seems like you have wonderfully fluent English to me ;) I'm happy to hear I got you learning and laughing at the same time, I love that combo ;)

I really do recommend using the autovote, it can be really intense trying to keep up with everything on here otherwise as I am positive you'll find ;)

Thanks for your vote, I really appreciate it and put tons of time and heart into this so thank you so much <3

posting a very good friend, I upvote and resteem yes.

Thank you @putry01 I hope you learned how to use this amazing feature :)

yes thanks friends

Nice post to.understand auto votes to some friend's posts.

Exactly! It's a great tool to use, especially if you have friends on here you want to support :)

It works like "steemvoter"?
My friend ❕❕❕

awesome post. thanks friend.

You are most welcome! I hope it answered how to use the autovote to make life just a bit easier ;)

I am currently auto upvoting just a friend. Can you auto upvote me @heart-to-heart 😀

Haha it's a great tool to support friends that is for sure! :) I am currently using my voting power for vegan recipes ;)

That's nice. I would have loved to enter the contest but may not achieve consistency due to school work.

Enjoy

Very interesting post and image placement,,,

Dear @heart-heart your post is as lovely as the morning sun. But to my knowledge, beyonce isn't a vegan. If anything, we should eat like pigs, cows, goats or one of these glorious animals. Now like beyonce. Much blessings.

Well actually, I posted about this but Beyonce is vegan right now, she started a company that is a 22 day nutritional challenge to get people to eat vegan long enough for them to give up meat :) While she is just going the challenge herself right now and hasn't fully committed, she's vegan at the moment and spreading awareness on her Insta :)

Thanks for sharing this, I've been super busy lately, so I'll definitely give it a try! I loved your straight-forward instructions and the funny memes 😁

Haha well awesome, so happy to be able to share this ;) I know what you mean, I have been really busy too so it makes me feel much better knowing my account is voting on what I would want to even if I don't get a chance to do it myself :)

Thank you my dear!! I actually already had this autovote, but I havent used it until now!! Thank you for reminding me! I have stepped up the game!!

Haha I feel kind of robotic but I need to have it on or else I would miss voting so much of the time, my time vanishes around here like it seriously does not make sense. One minute I'm in the gym, next minute it's dark. I just can't keep up ;) I love autovote and duh, you're on mine because of your awesome vegan ninja-ness <3

First of all, hat's off to your writing skills.
And it's a blog of valuable information but my sp is only 38 so far. My upvote is of no-value.
So now adays, but in future it will.

And your sense of humour, awesome U5dsdF8HTVMLPpw5dqpfVwanaXgrEg6_1680x8400.jpeg

Oh don't worry, everyone started somewhere and with time, it just keeps going up, I know yours will too ;) Thanks for the message! I love using funny photos with my words so no one gets bored of me talking ;)

this is really cool! ill definitely look into starting to use it - thanks for the tip :)

You are most welcome, I know with my busy schedule it saves me ;)

THis post is awesome! I love the way you approached this topic and of course I will add you to my autovoter; is it odd to ask for an auto vote back? Is this going to be the next spam comment, auto-vote for auto-vote? lol. Like you, I use auto voting and it has changed the game. There are very people that I do not auto vote mainly because there are certain topics they cover that I am not in support of, but for the most part. Auto voting ensures they get the support, I get the curation reward, and I can catch up on their post later. Win-win! Too long of a comment, gotta go work on my vegan adventure post due friday. LOVE YA!

i realized when looking on steemnow, i get higher rewards for upvoting your posts, so i think im going to be putting u on my auto upvote from now on, because i miss your posts a lot and i dont want to miss any from this day forth ;)

It can be really hard to keep up! I know I was on here wayyyy too much at one point trying to keep up with everything- that's why I love the new programs people are building to help :)

You're right though, as I mentioned in this post, you get rewarded for rewarding people and the better they do, the better you do so it's really quite beneficial in both directions, most people just don't know or forget this part ;)

I hope to earn you more curation in the future ;)

Ok. I apologize for shooting from the hip. But I still haven't received what I consider a respectful reply to my objection. Rereading your article, I clipped this:

"The authors you have chosen are being supported and now you don't have to worry about [actually reading their posts before upvoting all of them automatically]"

There is some merit in both sides of this. On my side, if all of the minnows did what you advocate, curating would become a popularity contest, driven by whatever determines popularity here. In a perfect world, popularity would be determined by the average "quality" of a person's posts, where "quality" means how much the post contributes to the overall quality of the experience of being on this platform. Might work, if the world was perfect. But in the real world, such a system would devolve into mobs and cliques, like people in the lower half of the IQ distribution behaved when they were 12 years old. In the real world, what you advocate would result in people supporting the people who agreed with their world view and with their political and social orientations. It would begin like a classroom divided by cliques. But the largest cliques would avalanche, destroying the smaller clicks, until there is one big mob, with everyone not conforming either destroyed or gone.

I'm sure that your intentions are good. But you haven't thought through the consequences of all of the minnows doing what you advocate. It would destroy this platform.

Hello again...I'm not sure what you're asking for... I understand we all make mistakes and I thank you for admitting yours. I had responded to your previous comment already, not sure how much more of my time you're requesting since you weren't overly kind to me, but because I am who I am, here we go again, let me see if I can help make some sense of this for you!

I did respond below but specifically to this: this way you speak of is already occurring regardless of my opinion or advocacy. I know you're new here, but you'll soon see it in action. The same people stay on the top because the big votes are behind them regardless of how bad you might not want that. It is what it is. Vote for what you want to see! There is some really incredible content on here and it's up to us to vote for what we want! This is a huge topic of conversation as we all try to figure out how to make things more fair and viable for everyone!

IMO the biggest problem is people putting up shit content for pennies. If that weren't the case, upvoting and following trails this way wouldn't be a problem because we would trust that our vote was going towards quality and valuable posts but some people think they can spend 2 minutes posting a picture on here and are clogging up the feeds and making this use of voting a risky business! These are the ways of the curator and why what we choose to put our votes on is important!

As stated in my reply, there are problems with the platform that need to be addressed, but for now, voting needs to happen and people are being too scared and timid and busy to use theirs which is where auto-vote comes in handy to keep Steem value up and not down (and I have seen both being here for so long.) Steem value rises based on demand. Recently our SBD was up to over 12x the amount! That was largely attached to the popularity growth of the platform but a lot of people come in to make money and leave when it doesn't happen, leaving dead accounts and unused VP.

All of the groups and support channels ask for autovoting and following of trails, this is the way of the platform. Might as well put your vote where it counts, supporting people and content you value.

If you'd like to see a change in the platform, I'd suggest starting by producing valuable content and making friends instead of attacking people from within. I believe that kind of behavior is what is truly destroying the platform.

I hope this gives you what you're looking for and helps you find your way in this ocean, I know it's rocky and wavy at first but I'm sure you'll be floating soon enough!

Thanks for the thoughtful answer. My intention isn't to debate the issue with you. I just wanted to state that what you advocate replaces "proof of mind" curation with a popularity contest. IMO you are not looking at the big picture. You are not thinking, what would happen to steemit if the rewards pool was allocated according to a popularity contest? No one has yet responded to me on this.

@ideafarm, I'm telling you this out of candor, I'm not going to keep on wasting my time responding to you when you're not even taking the same time to respond back. This is my 3rd attempt at coming to you from my heart and trying to figure out how such a heinous response could have come my way but it's not seeming to me that you're even reading my replies to you or giving me the same respect in return. I'm the one who was insulted and attacked so it's not making any sense to me what you are after here except maybe attention.

This is already how things are happening and it's not negative for the platform. You can go on to research this yourself in your own time to see it in action, it's all over the place, that much I can promise you.

There have been curation trails and fanbases since inception and those on first have developed quite the following which is where the popularity contest you speak of comes into play.

I didn't develop the system. I'm just playing the game the best way I can.

I think we can agree to end this here as I'm too kind to not reply and honestly at this point, I've had enough of this.

Please try to be the kind of community player you're saying you want to be. I feel like it's in there inside of you!

Also, seems that whether people were autovoted or organically voted, your point would still be a problem. Think about what you're saying, of course it's a popularity contest. It's up to the people to decide what they deem to be popular. Same as an election. We have the candidates, we have the choice to choose. It doesn't matter if it's done automatically or organically. We choose who we want to put our trust in.

When you elect a political member, you vote once and trust they will live up to your expectations. It's the same clicking a button on autovote. They have gained your favor and now you put your trust in them to continue to bring about the same content you valued.

The difference is, unlike in our current system, we are not stuck forever with our decision as a quick un-click of the auto, turns off our voting for them if they slip or we no longer support them. No problem.

This should answer your concern.

Don't feel compelled to answer. If you reread my original post it expressed opposition to what you advocate. It did not attack you personally and it did not attack your blog post. It only attacked what you advocate.

Apparently, you are a woman. But you are on a platform that conceals gender. So you should not take offense when some rough man like me speaks to you as he would speak to another rough man. Men do not interact with each other in the same way that they interact with women, or in the way that women interact with other women.

You are a morally ignorant selfish person. If everyone followed your advice, the rewards pool would be depleted, the platform would be overrun with shitposts, people who relied solely on human curation would receive only pennies for their effort, and steemit would die.

Don't be a cancer cell. Come here to participate in community, not to be a "social intercourse whore".

Wow @ideafarm, first of all thank you for your own radical candor!

I have been on this platform for almost a year now and in my own candor, I work my ass off and I'm tired of the system being broken!

I spend more than most people on this platform do creating my content but you know what? That doesn't leave me much time to support everyone else. I cannot in any way keep up with the demand it requires therefore, my voting power was being left unused.

What did I do? I went to a meet up and talked about the benefits of autovoting and how we NEED to use our votes in order to keep the platform alive. If I don't use my votes, and they sit there, they aren't doing anyone any favors and that is the message behind this post through the fun humorous, entertaining side of things to make sure no one fell asleep at Steemschool.

ALSO

Thank you for pointing out a flaw in the system that didn't occur to me. See, being me, and you may check my profile out all you want. I've been experimenting a lot recently due to the huge hit Steemit is taking and the problems I see happening on the platform...

When I knowingly had whales following me on auto-vote, it made me want to produce better content to prove I was worthy of that support! So you've given me another perspective I never would have even considered since I think the opposite of your view.

You know @ideafarm, there are people on here creating shit posts, that is for sure. Because of those shit posts, posts like mine and countless other creators, are going unnoticed and having systems that are allowed in the coding of the platform (btw) in operation CAN (not necessarily will) help the platform in my opinion (and that's what my blog is, my opinion.)

I'm certainly not NOT participating and I don't think I need to defend that since my activity and interaction prove that enough.

But seriously, thank you for giving me another perspective to consider. I hope you do the same instead of attacking people without a community-minded connection first. :)

I'm in the wrong here. I didn't read your article carefully enough and mistook it for advocating purchasing votes. Now, thanks to your thoughtful reply, I realize for the first time that there is a difference between "vote bots" and "bid bots".

To clarify another issue, I never thought that your post was a "shitpost". You clearly put work into it and the images are funny.

If @reiki would unflag my mistaken post, everyone would more easily be able to see an example of the hazard of firing off an unwarranted rebuke!

Loading...

@reiki: Please state your grounds for flagging my post. If there is any merit to them, I will remove my upvote and thank you for your rebuke.

Flagging should not be used to silence people who disagree with you or who express ideas that you would rather other people not hear.

"Please state your grounds for flagging my post."

Exhibit A:

"social intercourse whore"

Exhibit B:

"You are a morally ignorant selfish person."

Exhibit Giraffe:

"If everyone followed your advice, the rewards pool would be depleted, the platform would be overrun with shitposts, people who relied solely on human curation would receive only pennies for their effort, and steemit would die."

A and B are terrible things to say and Giraffe is outright false.

"Flagging should not be used to silence people who disagree with you or who express ideas that you would rather other people not hear."

It may be called "flagging" but it's actually a downvote. Which is literally designed to vote down content you don't like...

Before you come telling people how a platform works, you should know a bit about it...

I did down-vote some of your other posts, that I wasn't much of a fan of. I would have done more. But, I couldn't be bothered. But, seeing as you have decided to apologize and be amenable I have removed those flags.

Be a bit more thoughtful about how quick you resort to calling another person a whore (quoted or not).

Thank you for removing the flags. It is true that I am new to this platform and do not yet understand much of how it works. However, you are wrong about flags being merely downvotes. Flagging a post causes it to be hidden; it is an act of silencing. In contrast, a true downvote would merely affect the author's receipt of author rewards.

IMO your policy of flagging posts merely because you don't agree with them or don't like the way that the author expresses his views harms the platform in two ways: First, it silences, both directly and by causing authors to "self censor" in fear of people like you. Second, it discourages engagement by polarizing the platform into groups that ignore each other and live in filter bubbles.

It is for these reasons that I upvote people who disagree with me or who make me angry, because the fact that they gave me a punch that I can feel establishes that their post was not spam, but rather was valuable content for the platform.

IOW, curation is not about promoting your POV. It is about suppressing true spam while promoting content that makes the platform stimulating and engaging.

I appreciate your POV. It's how Busy and Steemit choose to deliver material that causes a downvote to "censor" material. But, it is not in fact a true sensor as the information is always there to be seen. It is literally a downvote and that was how it was designed for on Steem.

I understand the communities have evolved it into something else. As has been the unfortunate case throughout much of these platforms.

However, unfounded insults based on false premises is certainly grounds for flagging, down-vote and censorship IMO. And since it's my vote, my opinion is literally all that matters.

Calling one of the sweetest people on this platform a whore is not stimulating nor engaging. It was enraging, especially since it was obvious you didn't read the post, else you would have understood how incorrect you were. I wish to prevent others from having to experience said rage by censoring you.

Thank you for your candor in admitting that you use your flagging power to censor. Please reconsider. Censoring harms the platform. Tolerance for diversity of thought is the most important form of tolerance.

Notwithstanding your rationalization for your behavior, your use of flagging does harm the platform, and that is the behavior of a cancer cell, not a normal cell that lives in a way that is good for others and for the whole.

"Tolerance for diversity of thought is the most important form of tolerance."

You act as if I went and flagged you for having a valid alternative POV.

You called another human an whore, based on unsubstantiated claims.

[that] is the behavior of a cancer cell, not a normal cell that lives in a way that is good for others and for the whole....

So, I saw your cancer and I stamped it out. For the good of the platform.

That is literally the point of flagging and down-voting.

P.S. "social intercourse whore" is exactly what people are when they come to the platform for the money. The term is unfairly pejorative in the case of a blogger who produces creative writing, research, etc. in the expectation of receiving compensation for the work. But the negative connotation is fully deserved when the person is not really a scholar or an artist at heart, but is merely pretending to be while gaming the system.

P.S. #2: Please remove your downvote on my post above.
