I'm just a baby minnow who has hopes of one day swimming with the dolphins but I'm in no rush. Like most great things, this will take time and lots of effort. I've been looking at pages that offer contest and different ways of getting your name out there but have noticed a trend that gives someone like myself a pretty big disadvantage.
Your reputation score must be less than 45!
I've been on Steemit since January and would still consider myself a total noob that remains openminded and eager to learn. My reputation score jumped to 48 before I even knew what it was..
Your reputation score does not define how long you've been a member of Steemit so why should it hold you back from continuing to grow? So in reality, are these pages that only promote users with > 45 doing a solid for people with lower scores or is it really a service that will hurt Steemit in the long run by promoting those with lower numbers? I think we should be focused on the content the user produces and the quality that user adds to Steemit instead just trying to help out the small guys.
"Benefits users who haven't had enough visibility"
Is there a connection between follower count and rep score? My rep score is 52 and I have 362 followers and a little over $200 in my Steemit wallet. If you're going to call that "making it" then I'm going to ask you to tell me another joke. I'm only getting started!
I guess I'm trying to say let's focus on quality instead of just trying to help out the new guys. Our society has such a participation award mindset and it would be sad to see Steemit support this.
All photos on my blog have been taken and edited by me. The gorgeous lady in frame is my love, @Alexa.Creates
Stay rad and have a good day!

I agree with you, I'm a total noob and eager to learn everything about this platform. I've tried researching how to boost your reputation score, but it's still pretty mysterious to me.
Despite posting most every day my score remains at 37 I think now. Not gonna give up though!
Thank you for your comment. From noob to noob, I would suggest adding more content to your post. A post with only 1 photo rarely does well. Tell people about what you're shooting and the engagement from that should raise your rep score overtime.
Until your upvote worth something reasonable, you'll still be considered new. That aside, the new guys will be the sustainers of the system in time to come. So if you don't encourage them now to continue and also bring in some more new guys, you may be running the system aground. Everyone comes in here to add value to the system, but you won't know the value the new guys are bringing into the system if you don't give them a chance to be heard. Guys like you that have rep above 50 are believed to have found their way here that is why most contests exclude them. look at this your post for instance, you're already having over 13sbd from it. If I'm the one that made this same post, i would hardly get up to 0.05sbd from it. Why? Because I'm not yet known. So the new guys need every kind of encouragement they can get to keep them hopeful
I’d actually disagree. One could dump 500k into their account on the first day making them worth a lot but they would still be new to the platform. Cheers!
Those with high sp progress at a faster pace in steemit than those with low sp. from my observation from the little time i have spent here, a person's worth is his voting power not the time he/she had spent here.so, someone dumping 500k into the system is no more a newbie in my opinion
When I was initially replying to your comment the first time it was being done on my phone and only showed me the first two lines of your comment. I would have given a better reply and not started my response with stating I disagree. My apologies.
Nice post. It's helpful to see another newbie's perspective on Steemit. I think that we should forget about the value of our account and just use it as a regular blog that shows our interests. I think that just being a decent person will make your posts reach people in the long run. It's definitely nice to get paid for content but it's a lot nicer to know that a platform is making money off your information. I forgot who said it but "If something is free then you are the product" Ever since I heard that about 7 years ago I deleted all social media. This is the first social media that I have trusted in 7 years. I think getting a good community on here is the biggest goal.
We can't ignore that there is a huge money aspect even if that's not our primary target. I personally don't intend on pulling funds from Steemit for quite some time. I agree that being a decent person will have its advantages in the world of social media. The quote really resonated with me so thank you for sharing.
Not thought of this... ummm 50 posts or 50 reputation. Sounds like a nice number ;)
I'm confused as to what you're referring to actually. lol

Great article! I'm on Steemit now for 3 weeks and my reputation has crossed the 45 mark. Just as you said, I still consider myself a total noob...
Cheers to you for doing well for yourself! I'm glad someone else can relate and see where I'm coming from.
