I have been so busy posting articles and living my somewhat hectic life (which includes a full time job, two children and a difunctional right hand) I have not had time to respond to any of the lovely comments I have received over the last five days.
There are now over 250 people to respond to, so I am pretty sure it will take me most of the day to get this done!
To avoid feeling the pain of my recently damaged hand I will be using the speech dictation tool I described here:
I don't have many rules for myself on Steemit... or in my life generally for that matter!
HOWEVER...
Responding to comments I believe to be VERY IMPORTANT.
Whilst I may not respond on the day of the post, I do always get it done before the 7 day pay-out period is over.
Why is this so important?
What we must remember is that not all the comments are from people following us. They may just have found us by chance in the new or (hopefully!) the trending feed... and after scanning our article, they place their upvote and leave their comment.
By responding to these comments with a small upvote, lots of gratitude and hopefully a bit of wit, it is my belief that these people are much more likely to hit that Follow button and continue to engage with our work, upvoting, resteeming and commenting regularly.
I haven't been voting for a few days to get my voting power back up to 93.12% where it sits currently....
...which means I can hand out some generous upvotes today for the comments I enjoy the most!

Sometimes I don't get to write back for a couple hours or the next day, as I also have quite a full plate, but I strongly agree with the importance of taking time to respond to comments we receive...quite an important ingredient when establishing, strengthening & maintaining friendships :)

Yet, I've found that its worth commenting:
A spin off from commenting is attention, hopefully WAO. eliminating the need to canvass or pester for votes or follows.

Response on comments isn't important only for building audience, this is marketing term and I don't like it because it put one person above others. Answering on comment is great and need for healthy communication between people.
It's all about community here, so comments are essential really :)
most of my rewards come from posting comments.. Little minnows have no other choice.
Interesting to hear that. Though I am sure in time your posts will start generating money...
oh don't get me wrong occasionally I get a whale to vote on something I post, but it's 2tier. W/O commenting the rewards would be small.
Even with dictation 250 replies is a lot! I appreciate the dedication to your followers. You are setting a really good example for new folk like me.

That's awesome you're able to use dictation to comment...that's some dedication tho if you're going through that many comments! Happy to be following someone who really cares about people who interact with their content

I very much agree with, I attempt to comment on all of the comments that are left for me. Of course, I don't have nearly that many comments to respond to. Hopefully, some day I will! haha. The engagement is important if you want support from others.
Same here, engaging with our community and followers is really important.

I started steemit two weeks ago, I am like you father dede two daughters, and I loved the concept of steem considering that I am a beginner, cryptocurrency trader, at first I wanted only profit for But I understood that I was on a wrong road, steemit is bigger than that, I learned to read the article well and to give more importance to it, Other things than money

That's a LOT of commenting-- but you're absolutely right, it's through comments we build interaction on our posts, and that interaction is how come we have a real community here.
