The more I scroll through the Trending Page, the more ashamed I feel of being a part of this community. It makes me feel dirty. I feel like I'm whoring myself for the sake of a few bucks by being part of something that's clearly designed for people with severe mental capabilities issues.
I've been thinking long and hard this morning about whether I'd even admit it to anyone I know that I use Steemit these days.
Probably not.
Why?
Because they would spend three minutes browsing through the posts and comments, and go "Wow, what a completely fake and shitty community that consists of people with a collective IQ of 2".
This is not everybody, of course.
My girlfriend actually does painting and photography, and even though she's not one to really care for money, she did take a quick look and what I described above is basically what transpired.
She even questioned my self-respect, which got me thinking and here we are.
I do feel like I owe it to the people reading my stuff that I do finish whatever stuff I have on-going, but I will decline payouts, so no need to waste voting power on them. I'm doing it purely because I owe it. I probably won't engage with you in any way, so comments are unnecessary, as well.
Steemit was supposed to be an answer to Facebook and YouTube, etc. It was a decentralized social media platform where one wouldn't get banned for 30 days for using a dirty word.
When I joined, I thought it would attract intellectual people with intellectual content, and there were some of them here, but as time went on, those with self-respect left this platform behind after seeing what it became.
The same bullshit artists trending every day, no matter what changes are made to the algorithms, and people with constructive things to say get ostracized for being toxic, blah, blah, blah. I've made this point a million times, and it was mundane then, and it'd be mundane now.
But seriously, it's almost March 2018 and Jeff Berwick is still on the trending page? Am I the only one who doesn't want to be part of a community like that? That guy is responsible for scamming innocent people out of money and everybody fucking knows that!
Everybody, it's fucking public knowledge.
Yet fucking there he is! There he is because no one gives a shit. And he's going to continue being there for as long as this fucking place exists.
People are afraid of saying anything because everybody fears for their "position".
Goddamnit, guys, make some money in the fucking real world. Don't be so dependant on this shit. Are you proud of yourself for sucking dick and that being your only talent? Because you sure as hell shouldn't be.
And it's not just Berwick, he's just one of the best examples.
Steemit was an interesting experiment, but now it's one that I declare failed.
No one is here for the content, everybody is here to make a quick buck. That's all. That's my biggest gripe, too: everything here is just an excuse.
Every post is an excuse. The content doesn't matter, the posts are there for the sake of being there so that people can upvote. That's all.
Every comment is just an excuse to fish for upvotes. Everything is fake.
And if I feel like I'm a loser for being part of something like this, I step out. In all honesty, it's embarrassing to me to be a Steemit member. It's embarrassing to be here. Take the money out of the equation, how many of you would be here? None of you. None of you would be here with all the bullshit going on.
As far as the CEO of this place goes, allow me to quote a somewhat famous person:
"He’s a millionaire who should be a billionaire. You know why he’s not a billionaire? Because he surrounds himself with glad-handing, nonsensical, douchebag yes men who are going to tell him everything he wants to hear."
This place will never get any better, mark my words.
See you later, maybe. This place sucks.
Sadly I agree with you.
It’s a shame because it could have been so good, there are great communities behind the scenes active at discord etc however the auto voting has made people lazy, the voting bots have ruined the platform, censorship is prevalent with bullshit opinion flagging by some who want to shut down truth/free speech or are just jealous talentless cunts who create fuck all but division and the management have their heads up their arses.
I took 6 weeks off at the back end of last year as I was sick of some of the shit I was seeing and came back refreshed however I’m at the stage again where I can’t be bothered writing anymore.
Reading this has at least made me feel like I’m not the only one thinking these thoughts.
Well said dude.
The reason I am still here (And I support every word you just wrote) is because I've found some real value in here.
Art communities are actually being financed out of steem. Families are being fed. People are being educated. These human beings from places like Philippines, Venezuela, Nigeria... heck, even my own country.
A dollar a day can make a difference for them. There is no other place where that can be found, not that I know of. Not like here.
So, I still have a little hope for this place and steem. Not much, enough for me to stay a little bit longer.
I'm just not ready to declare this a failed experiment. Not yet.
Maybe I'm that stupid.
No your not stupid and all the things you said, make sense.
I think this post is bork!
If he really didn't care about the money, he would not accept money for this post..
throwing in the towel is bullshit. He'll be back, there's no good alternative that's any better in my view.
The tone is a bit dramatic that is for sure, but i think this recurring discussion about what and how to make Steemit better is important. I am not impressed with what I see in the trending section either - and like many in this comment section I just ignore it. But I do think it is a problem both for creators and investors.
I agree with you that money is and should be part of this. I am here to earn money from my art. But that doesn't mean that quality selection is not important. It would add another value to the network besides the working technology, and added value is a stronger Steem.
Maybe self-voting should never have been part of the algorithm? I have reinvested most of what I have earned here in SP, and I can give myself 2,5$ or so for every post, but even so I am willing to give that up if the actual quality of the site would be improved. (Just an example... probably not the fix that would end all problems :)
What a point! This is so correct.
Nevertheless, @schattenjaeger expressed quite some valid points but I don't support entirely abandoning here.
I call for more policing of this platform by people of high wherewithal.
Thanks for Always being the bastion of support for minnows.
@eurogee
@surfyogi I'll burn the rewards. Burning is much better for the platform as a whole than just declining them.
Also, posts with declined rewards never get any attention from my experience. Unless you're a big user like @steemitblog, etc. they just get dismissed.
I agree. I have been discouraged as of late, because it seems like everyone in my "community of friends" is up and leaving, and I feel left a bit high and dry over it, but I so want this place to work. I agree with the other comments as well about other countries who use this website to live. So many people are making money now that never had that opportunity before. It would be such a shame to pull the rug out from underneath all of those people. Cruel even. I will keep up my #fight4steem as long as I can. Though, I do hope some things change.
Thank you for this word. In fact there is no state of utopia where everything is 100% perfect. Throughout the ages, countries, solid institutions only get better with time and through trials and errors experiment.
I totally agree with @schattenjaeger but if we all leave, this place will fall but if we stay back and fight for what's good like @fulltimegeek and other notable Steemians are doing, with time, sanity will be restored here.
Thanks KS for expressing your opinion.
@eurogee
Relaxing can be a good thing to do :)
I am taking a different approach by helping build a community up around a common interest.
I know there isn't many people here just yet, so things can get a little stale, but every post you make that is quality will make this place better! :) I am super positive right now, just took a nap and had an energy drink lol.
You’ll be back, faggot. You’ve been banned everywhere else, and you can’t stand being alone. Go make your own feed and stop looking for hand outs like a welfare recipient.
couldn't agree more
This place doesn't suck, it is just like a knife. If you use it to stab and hurt people it is a bad thing but if you use it to cut food it is good. You don't go into a home and stick your nose into its cesspool and judge the place as a cesspool and is full of shit. #steemit is a place for kind-hearted people to show love and care for other people in a flash unlike in FB or other social media where you will die before you get a buck or never.
yeah, but will it remain the same when all the fleas from facebook come to suck up... I'm over-exaggerating a bit, but this place was flooded with spam and scam and now it's reward pool bs, and bidbots, ..... I wouldn't say it's not a cesspool too, it's kind of everything just like any other place,
Do you know how many people have come here and made great stories, shared and left because 0.00 and no interest, no real way to float up unless a whale votes you then all the other guys just follow you, because they get scraps from time to time too.... Yeah it's great, but it's not really that great.
I'm very new here, but agree with @cryptopie. At least here you have control over who you put into your feed. If you're essentially following the money trail, then expect to be deluged by junk.
This may be true but I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet.
I can empathize with you 100%. One thing that @liberosist said in another post resonates with me and I think it lays out the crux of the issue but it could be further expounded to include the drivel that is promoted by manipulators.
I've seen comment scammer make a killing and more often then not they are not stopped. I've seen people systematically bid bot lackadaisical posts and walk away with rewards and reputation. Honest people often get left in the dust. It's just the way it is or seems to be currently.
Those of us that want to see thoughtful, articulate and meaningful material on the blockchain are often dismayed when we see repetitive garbage be receive inordinate rewards through inorganic or circular voting.
Perhaps, if after a few months, if the community fails to stop the rampant manipulation from individuals like haejin, tradewonk, and many more like them, I too will need to take an extended leave of absence.
On the flipside, there are a lot of awesome people I have come in contact with so it's been a mixed bag.
Hope you are able to become refreshed and maybe come back to a cleaned up Steem. I am but a minnow but I have big ambitions to implement controls to deter the junk posting. We need flags and more of them.
Sorry but we have a great community; just not a great social media network, yet..
but give it some time and it can be. And if not, there will be competitors that deserve to win. So either way, I stick with it. It's too helpful to too many people and it supports a lot of great creative people. It also is the most scalable and best UI for crypto going today and chicks dig it.
Also, u may have noticed, it's a great way to make friends. Many new great friends. And business partners, and clients, and... it's not facebook!
Sorry man, I don't even look at trending and it's not that important, for now.
Many new changes coming to Steemit like Communities that WILL HELP IT SCALE IT'S CURRENT PROBLEMS, and STEEM should increase in value. So it's a good investment too.
Also just because you don't like Jeff B, leave me out of it. He hosted a fairly successful thing in MX last month and helps points the way for many in crypto as far as a philosophical way forward.
Later dude..
Yes, overlooked your comment :) Agree.
I’m going to miss these posts (when I manage to catch them in my feed) they make for a nice occasional reality check.
See you around.
I never look at the trending page. I follow people that post content I like. If you only look at your feed things start to look a lot better. I find new people to follow through resteems and occasionally searching recent posts for certain keywords. In any social network with hundreds of thousands of people or more you are going to have a pretty low signal to noise ratio. Steemit is no different in that regard.
Eventually you will. You'll feel the lake drying up and you'll want to find out where the water is going.
It did. I tend to think a lot in metaphors. Some of which are better than others.
I hear you and I'm glad, that you are giving your anger a voice. I'm here for exactly posts like yours - this is what I really want to read - it's real and it matters.
Yes, I'm also here for money, but over the past weeks I got in touch with people here and developed deeper connections than ever before on Facebook. There is a lot of gold hidden in a huge pile of shit. At the moment, I am able to find this gold very easily - this somehow gives "mining" another meaning...
I think losing you as a free and clear voice of the community does hurt and I hope, you will return soon....
I don't think he's angry, maybe just disappointed, hopefully he comes back, but it's a slim chance for that(if he's serious about stepping back), it's his choice tho and hopefully he's not gone for good, I left my notions in this post, but I do agree with most of it. Still it is what it is :) and we can do what we can with it.
For these same reasons I'm working on an alternative interface for steemit that will allow users to filter all the spam and trash. If anybody is interested I welcome all sorts of feedback.
sounds promising, i'm interested ;-)
Good initiative my friend!
I call this Project Outreach 2.0.
This was a fantastic rant. Fantastic. Thank you... it mirrors my thoughts in many ways... I am not quite so jaded yet... yet.
Sadly, I do have to agree. If you look at payouts as a measure of quality Steemit is failed, and promoting quality is what it should do.
I have still had a lot of good things happening from the community. Two people are translating my comic and Steemit gives some reward to them that I with my creative commons art would not be able to give them, there is a lot of people who, like me, makes good original content, but it all happens to an annoying buzzing sound of high rollers gaming the whole thing high above the heads of the creative and hardworking people.
But as the whole thing is built right now there is nothing you can do about it if you do not have lots of Steem Power. Maybe Akasha or some of the other projects in the pipeline can do better.
Anyways - I reshared this as I can't get as angry as you about it :)
I am only here for two months, so what do I know? I get your irritation, I only agree with half of it. I see very good artists leave after a few days, I see battles about rewards and a lot nonsens I don't care about. But you know what? I see the same in the real world, and there it irritates me even more.
The other half is why I stay. Here I have a possibility to earn some money, I have found interesting people who share their knowledge, I have interesting conversations with them. I almost never look in trending, I find interesting people mostly in comments of people I already follow or in new.
I hate the begging and the spam, but even that is easy to find in real life.
I am sorry that you will be leaving but i understand. Being that frustrated isn't a situation you want to stay in.
Good post. If people don't like it, they can always start a Wordpress blog where they will work for nothing and probably have 0 visitors/subscribers to their blog for the first 6 months. People get easily discouraged here because they only earned 5 cents on a post that they wrote. Meanwhile, that is more than you can ever expect to earn on almost any other blogging/social media platform that ever preceded Steem. We have a great opportunity to get people in 3rd world countries to earn an income by posting content online. We have an opportunity to make hundreds/thousands of dollars. What would you get if you posted all of this on Facebook? ZERO YouTube? ZERO
This place can suck sometimes. Most of the content on here is crap. But if you watched all the youtube videos, tweets on twitter, facebook rants you would get a total pile of trash as well with a few diamonds in the rough.
oh that's why I can't upvote :D missed the timeframe, well he's still here :D he's still on the autobot vote, plus he never went out of his way to change anything or help the state of things aaaand he's still here :D
you are doing as well as myself and probably like most of the people with comments here. It is what it is and we can do what we can. It's still funny how many good people there are here and how easy it is to overlook them with all the noise going around, we aren't helping each other that much either, but that's another story.
I totally understand you. For me steemit was much more fun when I was part of a community.
Yeah, steemit is not perfect in any way, but with all the things that are being added to it (Dtube, memes, SMTs, whatever) I do see it's future.
But why would you leave? You can start cleaning up this shithole - for example flagging those idiots who didn't even read your post. Nothing will change if people will be scared of flagging someone who do deserve it.
please STEEM is the BLOCKCHAIN
STEEMIT is a site, nothing has been added to it since the rebranding and well they are taking care of it and trying to make it work in mobile.
Flagging does nothing
you are kind of speaking nonsense and you should know better. people are scared of flagging as it is, for no reason, flagging can hurt your rep, but that's it, it's there to counter the abusive self voting(but it doesn't work) so I'd say if you have something to say, say it, don't fear flagging, flagging is there to be used as counter to upvotes, it's called downvote.... fuck this "report" and make em scared, do you see anyone of the bigger whales flagging, why do you think there isn't a bid-for flag vote bots :D maybe it's a good idea :D
Thank you for a reply j3dy.
Yes I see bigger whales flagging, they are the ones that still care about this place. It's a minority though.
half of them probably are having a hard time, I'd say there is a minority of people that care from the whales, possibly a bit bigger minority if you count in the people that think they care but are building up bid bots or voting for the same person or whatnot. They somehow too think it's healthy for a platform to have people on a paycheck and lots and lots of followers not doing anything other than praising and or bitching about and to someone...
Either way people have had a hard time working together in big groups, consensus here is always split between "parties" with everyone looking out for their perspective.
Well your post hit home right between my eyeballs and dead center into my brain... spot on imo... I wrote what follows below months ago but have backed away a few weeks later...and still not wanting to jump back in...your post amplified many points..Good luck and hopefully you will return (you should)!
I was lucky 44 days ago when I finally jumped after looking at Steemit from the cheap seats and whether or not I should. I can say as a plankton, all you said is so true. @blank a good intelligent poster from Thailand (Brit x-pat) was the first to pass on some advice and he followed (I think out of pity). The early days were just engage others blogs, avoid being trite and be yourself but if you had nothing to add..don't and vote + even its worth so little if you felt moved by the post's content. The author takes note and appreciates it. It is common decency/good manners. Then you evolve meet new people - purely by happenstance. @blank is another I am quite fond of. Because of him I read something by @blank .. that led to something I could not have imagined would have occurred in any other SM medium. Great guy! Separate the wheat and caff and they are some extraordinary people/content on Steemit. Yes I noticed some gambits, whining and the ever-rising amount of new accounts inbound, my bandwidth is throttled to nothing in prime-time of late and such - BUT I GET IT. I hope to earn my place here not by silliness or fraud but by consistent engagement and I don't expect anything for nothing... only for value as viewed by others.
FUCKKKK YEAH THIS IS THE PIPE BOMB I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR! For those of you who don't know who he was quoting, it was CM Punk, who went off the fucking script to tell it how it really is.
What really pisses me off is that 80% of the posts are about Steemit itself. I dropped a pipe bomb not too long ago, and fellow artists were selling me out for fucking $0.12.
And I've noticed this place is starting to get infested with scam artists, SJWS, and charlatans. It's all the same.
The artists are the only ones who can save Steemit at this point.
The 80% steemit related have aggravated me from the start. Say what you like about the mainstream media - at least the New York Times doesn't devote four sections of their paper to coverage of the times. This is navel-gazing taken to a new extreme.
That being said, I'm quite fond of the other 20%. I've made some great friends on here, and the modest amount of money I've made (none of it cashed out, except a little moved over to Bitcoin) is more than I've ever been paid by Facebook.
I think communities being implemented will make a big difference. I can hang out and see the content I want without having to wade through all the crap.
echo chambers are a thing now, it's just not as well formulated, you can still frequent any #tag and :D nice quote :) I got it :D good man :D in that above vid, I can't :D imagine for the life of it he got to do that, nobody :D yayayay mute :D yeah nobody jumped him, they should have let the stand up go on/...
I think most of the time you can find much better content on the Hot section than on Trending.
indeed, good point man!
I agree with you in most of what you said but personally i never look trending page ..i look only at my feed and I try to keep that people whose content seems interesting to me..
I like your sense of criticism @schattenjaeger
The GUI is so bad, it's next to impossible to find interesting content.
and they don't seem to give a damn or make any attempt to make it better.
Why should they, the stupid community will fix it.
Meanwhile, they introduce 'SMT', which will fix everything else.
This also wil be published as early beta..and they will go to the next project, where easy money is to be gained.
If STINC would be serious about Steemit, they would have introduced some kind of support/tech help, etc. But this is hard and expensive.
when you are looking for it, when you know where it is, it's there. ... It's not in the trending mostly, I just find 5-10 good things out there from scrolling 50 posts, sure there should be 50 good posts there, buuuut :D when if ever was the trending page any good, maybe a loooong while ago
I haven’t been on platform long but I would say the conundrum is that you lure people here with promise of money, but then all the content becomes money oriented, not quality oriented. The fake positivity is the biggest thing I take issue with. It’s so hard as a noob to get your rep up, but then if you say something someone doesn’t like, you get flagged and can lose a lot of its a higher rep person. If they tweaked it to where there is less penalty for flags financially but maybe it could limit number of posts instead, we would get more real around here. The spammers with their “nice post, you make world better place reading your content, pls upvote” that just spam everywhere is soooo annoying. I’m still trying to find good content, I have found some, but it’s been harder to find more.
So true. i cannot agree more
well this place used to be the other way around, 70% good content, in fact even surprisingly good content, it's still there, just ovelayed with a few noise and bullshit patterns, just follow the good authors
check the comment above by @bluelazer, he shared what was given to him and I would have said the same thing
First off @schattenjaeger I do agree with you 70% therefore i have resteemed this(something I'm reluctant to do nowadays) Just like you my hopes and dreams for this place have been hammered by the reality of stupidity and opportunistic human natures, sure the trend here is money, but we both know this place was far grater, I wouldn't ask anything of you personally, but I will use your post as my platform, so far I haven't had any conversation with you although I've tried a few times. Good on you to make your point heard. Now @everyone,
The truth is this place was offered as a un-censourable, free, decentralised, blockchain, social-media and those people supporting that case were here, it was great and we both know it, the conversations were above any par on any social media, maybe bordering between real conversations between peers and professionals, something lacking in other social media.
The orientation did change for the detriment of the platform, spam was let in and abuse was neglected for over a year, the main team who was supposed to care for this project(that's how they justify the stake behind their accounts @null and @steem ... not to mention their own stake, used to reward themselves... sure they are delegating to the better projects, but only what fits their model)
Not to mention the blatant reward pool abuse going on for over 4-5 months, in short, this place isn't living up to it's potential yes. But I wouldn't discard those good 40% for those bad 60% of dealings around here. Not by one bit. This place changed me and inspired me like no other, bordering only to TED videos that have been with me for over a decade, the problems here are problems anywhere and everywhere, sure they are unique to their setting and parameters, but the main thing to take away is that this is a system run by people and people are all kinds of asshole so it's normal they shit allover the place.
It's turned into the fake poop(pop) fest we know and enjoy :( everywhere, on TV, media, talks, trends, .... everywhere, everyone is hungry, tired and looking for success, this place was one giving opportunity, giving hope, giving change and being a platform to uplift people, it still is, it's been what it is for a looooooong time, lots of people have given up on it, (maybe if they didn't) there would still be intellect in here, maybe the little we have left(in proportion) is enough, maybe this place deserves better and if it doesn't, it just doesn't matter, because the fundamental principle in use should be up to each individual, everyone should have their own "agenda" and "MO" hopefully the better people see if for what it is and use it to the best of their ability, if it doesn't work fork it that's it, sleeves up and back to work, the fact is things would probably repeat.
I've said enough, anyone interested in reading more is welcome to my best blog posts, :) I adore them, now I'm off to curate my own post that I agree with 70%, you frame things great from your perspective. Once again :) Cheers mate
Link to my two best blogs
PS Anyways I did leave this place and well it's been a year :D since the whale wars of old... I'm back and would rather make this fit my worldview and "mute" everything else, than go back to the silence that is the echo-chambers of YT,FB,Twatter and bs like that, maybe check out minds.com if there is any chance you haven't heard of that platform it was quite good actually.
So I will be here, possibly partaking in the reward pool "raping" but with decency and without concern for the fact that I've spent 2 hours writing comments and reading posts instead of "money talking"
Cheers round 2 :D
Lmao funniest yet realest shit I've read all day. 100% with you.
I hear your frustration but I think it has more to do with user experience design more than bad content. There is shit loads of bad content on YT, FB and all of the other channels but the design and the algorithm for the most part allows you to see most of what you want. While I don't see Steemit as a Facebook, I do see it as a Reddit/Quora type blogging platform with a YouTube bolted on. What I don't see easily though is my favourite authors in my trending page. I think the platform will evolve and better content will be recognised more easily while bad content and spam will not be rewarded. We aren't there yet but these teething problems will ultimately be ironed out. At least that's what I'm hoping.
in a decade? or should we just stay and pray with jerry banfield :D while he's out selling votes "making the world a better place" helping like @haejin with his "blogs helping people" .... I agree it seems short sighted, but that won't change, any time soon, people are rare to change, There are no problems there are just opportunistic people.
If you plan on leaving the platform you should drop your posting key to one of the community groups (like steemstem) that actually supports intellectual content while you power down (assuming you are)
Let your vests be used to support the few intellectuals left
supported!
trails, delegations, blah blah, don't expect he would :D dan didn't :D maybe tho, everyone hopes for stuff :D
Even if you leave this site you'll still share this planet with all the assholes. You'll have to breath the same air with them.
So it's just a compromise. Maybe it would be better to buy one way ticket to the moon.
But all the crypto guys keep saying they are going to the moon. Might get kind of crowded.
:P
lol.
Well it is a beta, so criticism should be welcome to some extent...? Hope the "real official version" will be optimized improved and all of these "spammy self-upvoting loopholes" removed... Also discord? Why? Something like discord, should be integrated so we wouldn't need discord, (and all these groups), the platform should have a solution for this... Anyway great platform, but we are waiting for the "real steemit" we don't want this crappy beta any longer...(sorry Ned and Dan please don't put shadow-ban)...
don't apologise for someone's shit, plus you clearly have no idea of things around here, dan left a year ago, the problems persist since the inception and they won't be fixed by the stinc team, they just want their billions, or if that's not the case they are seriously not making a good job of it, since well this place was in a better shape, when things could have been changed and easier at that, but nobody listened to the people and they even created half the problems we are facing now(spam people leaving), just so we get "mainstream adoption" maybe you will be interested in my "old" blog pieces I wrote over a year ago, I've linked them here in my comment, you are free to check them out and tell me what you think, do you think anything has changed for the better... there used to be engagement here, there used to be communication, sure everyone was mostly focused on earning their buck, but it wasn't rampant abuse with a slap of "promotion" over it and we are "helping" this place.
Okay, yeah I am still new here, hope things get better, if we ever move out of "beta" stage.
I am going to check your blog for more interesting articles...
Man why is your girlfriend treating you like that. Steem obviously isn't perfect but there is something behind the idea of it.
Obviously you were ahead of the crowd on it. If your girlfriend doesn't admire and respect that about you maybe you should be questioning her?
That said I do absolutely agree that the trending page sometimes has lame stuff.
I think some of the problem might be that you are scrolling the trending page. I go through new posts and sometimes hot posts and I am always finding gems. The platform is what the people make it with every interaction. So I think if Steemit sucks it is probably because people just suck. Lol.
I am an artist, and Steemit has already been very valuable to me in my few months of use as far as building relationships with interesting people, learning, and even being able to upgrade my equipment and supplies.
As an activist, the only thing that draws me is that I won't be banned for telling the truth. I dunno about the trending and hot pages. I clicked on the profile of someone who upvoted me and then saw this. That's how I browse the web anyways. Clickclickclick!
Click on brother.
right, organic outreach :D
well it'll purify itself.. if you let a system run for some time, it starts taking care of its issues and that will happen with steemit also..
so i say just stick with it and it'll get better with the passage of time..
But if you are still insisting on taking a break, then i can use your Steempower to good advantage ?
minor note the system is steem, steemit is the site most people frequent, the first application of the steem blockchain, steem and steemit have different problems :D
Man sucks to see you go, these feeling are all around to everyone with compassion on this platform. I may agree that it's failed. I will stay until communities come. Upvoting the posts that deserve it, trying to keep around the good content creators before they all leave and its just us investors, and the voting bots left.
Hope to see you back someday. You are one of the good ones. Stay safe, and best of luck yo
I have been reading publications @schattenjaeger and @kyriacos for a long time. These good guys always write texts full of pysimism. If I had suicidal tendencies, I would have already committed suicide))). The guys have achieved good results here. Refusing to do what I was doing for 2 years is very difficult. Why not treat this project as an experiment? Work out all the errors here so that you do not make these mistakes in a new place. Let me know if you find another better place. I will try not to spoil it. Thank you.
I prefer to focus on the half full glass, and negativity, usually on breeds more negativity. Not solutions...
Imagine the situation. Yesterday I read about an old experiment on mice. Four pairs of mice were planted in a limited bunker and provided them with paradise conditions: food, water, climate. At first everything was good, the mice multiplied, and after the colony had grown to large sizes, problems very similar to the social problems of human society began. The result - in four years the mice stopped multiplying, all the remaining mice died. This information made a negative impression on me, this is yet another confirmation of where the humanity is moving. After a few hours @kyriacos produces an article «Is it Ethical to Have Children?» Which further reinforces my negative perception of the situation with mice.
I'm trying to understand the motives @schattenjaeger and @kyriacos. These guys act like arsonists. Their texts are always full of anger and bile. I get the impression that they are conducting some sort of experiment and specifically pull out all the shit out. It would seem that people should turn away from them, but the number of subscribers increases. I want to see the end of this cynical experiment. Our society is far from ideal, but I hope that the positive part will prevail.
hmm i don't know.. i've been active here just maybe over 1 to 2 months, so maybe i'm still quite "naive?" but i hope the platform can continue, so that it still presents some opportunity for myself and other minnows to try to make this a viable blog/income platform... hmm..
It's not about "income", that's exactly where things go awry. Think of Steemit without the money aspect and think if you'd still be here.
I am on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and they haven't paid me SHIT. Instead, they take advantage of my content, sell me and my thoughts off to advertisers and I get nothing in return. I'm still there though.... I agree with alot of what you said and the money is definitely the motivator, but this whole decentralized content phenomenon is amazing. Of course people are just going to farm it, but in the end I think this is the beginning of something special.
Well said, at the end strong will survive. If you do not plan for steemit, steemit will plan for you and then you will leave. A lot of people write nothing and then earning reward. Clearly this is part of being decentralized. This is the rule all along.
Keep on steemin'
@jeffjagoe So you're still for sale; if you're not selling your information to those advertisers, you're whoring yourself on Steemit. It's no different.
But I am getting cryptos in return over here... if I wasn't whoring myself here, I'd have to whore myself to the corporate nutjobs on LinkedIn :)
No matter where you goin a public space/website, you are going to get used. You think the internet is free? Rofl.
Get off the hurrhurr and do something about it. The glass is half full also. Be thankful you have more free speech than the other places, that you are getting some monetary reward (or are you one of those “money is the root of all evil” guys), and start saying what you really want. People are responding to you and actually talking to you.
What I have seen is that in a way things work better within groups in here that are only making that few dollars per post. That way people post cos they want to and not because they are trying to make money.
Maybe some kind of cap for the rewards/post could help?
i think alot of times people will end up saying "i came for the money, but found a community"-ish kind of statements, and I think it's quite true for me as well. I think without the money aspect I might not hav considered the platform tbh
What community? Bots spamming "Thanks for sharing"?
ahaha i guess for me its the local community, mine is still rather small, so its kinda nice to meet people who are in the same country building it up. but as for the bot spamming.. well..
It is what it is. At this moment in time it is the the only one to choose from. Make of it what you will.
I get engagement on Facebook. The problem with Facebook, though, is the fact that they keep banning me.
I don't work well with others, as I'm sure is apparent by now.
Set up a testnet on the EOS blockchain and be ready to start the blockchain of your dreams when EOS goes live.
Cheers mate :) haven't seen you in a llong while :)
Hello, sir. :-D
I'm around. I've been hanging out on Discord at http://steemexperience.com
You just took me off my feet with this. You're right about everything, the money involved is the motivator. I think we all need something to motivate us in everything we do.
Food for thought.
It's a rich irony to have the word decentralized built into the most censored site on the net.
at least it's not a centralised censorship, it's not a bot army of paid goons looking for "hate speech" plus everything stays in the blockchain and at best only a few places get censured .
I dunno I post stuff on here I wouldn't take the time to post on facebook like my adventures jumping into homesteading and living offgrid more in depth. But as of late with things like this being pointed out it does seem pretty lame and thus I've been staying away, funny I find this on the odd time I come poke my head around but yes there is lots of fakery. Though I do love the homesteading community and some of my favourite fb friends post a lot more on here/exclusively. And where you're wrong is if I did care about the money I certainly would not be here. Just my two cents not that I expect a response
Shit.... Why have i found you only now that you are leaving.
You looks like the kind of people i also expected to see around here.
Too bad. This is what i feared when i started hovering and writing around here: that people that actually write interesting thing wouldnt stay for too long.
That is pretty bad... I Will hand around for a while, but mostly to look what Will happen with smts. And to kind of train my writing.
Too bad .... Too bad...
hey he's had a whole year+ run here, if anything he should be applauded. Good luck.
Excellent post, you are 100% spot on, this place is just a computer game now thats pays prizes for bollocks, but leaving means the tossers and wasters win......stick around, get in peoples faces, try and change things.
Best wishes, nice to see someone else who is prepared to tell it how it is :-)
yup, well he's actually been doing that for a while and he's not the first one or a minority, but as with everything it's hard to look things in the face plus, people will always come for the rewards and people will always reward them :( money when used by corrupted people will corrupt in turn. Maybe you can find the other
I've seen over a thousand, although I haven't been frequenting and I bet half or more aren't active and have left :|
FUCKING FANTASTIC!!!
Might be the best thing we've read on here in months.
long farting noise..... for real. I came here because a friend said I should, yes because you can make money from your ideas and writing. I also saw within just a couple hours what a complete shit show it was and almost left. But this is why I will stay: 1. on Facebook its really just discussions with people I know, Instagram I found to be easier to connect with like minded strangers, this obviously is more like that and I actually need to find the 'others" out there for my own sanity. 2. The experiment has not failed yet, this whole micro community trade thing is just getting into the first round of weeds, like every society that starts with a fresh slate and then slowly becomes dominated by a few . But instead of a few generations its been a few years, and we all get to see it unfold so we might actually be able to solve it. or we can't because we live in an infinite fractal of undulations from which there is no escape, and if thats so then fuck it, I'll just take breaks when its boring and participate when its interesting 3. the money is a thing but people will start to realize that it really is just about making up what ever forms of currency that facilitate us being productive- now that we know we can just break off from dominating, currency withholding and manipulative fucks we won't be beholden to them any more. But for now, the same education that I had that culminated in me seeing this has to become widespread, and steemit is still the best project I've seen for a regular person to muck around with these new "ecosystems" or mini countries or whatever these spaces can be called. I want to stay and make sure whoever wants to find that information can, because Im SO FUCKING THANKFUL to the people who came before that left me the breadcrumbs and other markers.
You've been doing this specific platform a lot longer than me, so I understand your burnout and disappointment. i had just about checked out from society all together from being burnt out in other arenas. i've never found a place or occupation or hobby that was a secret meeting place for all of the sincere people, there are turds in all the places I though for sure would be turd-free (but I always found a few gems in the toilet bowls too lol). People are ding dongs, that's all there is to it haha
Stay man, if people like you and me start leaving, that's when it's all gonna go to shit.
Stay.
Steemit is still in beta mode and because it's in the initial stages, there will be many money hungry shit posters, scammers and spammers.
But that doesn't mean this community cannot improve!
I still know a lot of awesome people on here who are real a.k.a not posting to simply get upvoted. Check out @whatamidoing, @nonameslefttouse, @wandereronwheels, @papa-pepper.
These people are all sharing things with the world about stuff that they like, so that it can learn something new!
You've been here long, you know best how much it has improved in all aspects, minus the garbage and you know how far it can go. It'd be a waste of a veteran user like you to leave.
So please consider staying.
PS: No you don't have to upvote this. I commented so you know these things that I had to say. If you read this completely, I'll be more happier than getting 2 cents for shit I'd normally say.
I generally agree, it feels like a "circle-jerk" most of the time, with people voting each other on totally worthless posts. But, it is also in the user's power to tell the wheat from the chaff. Personally, I have a very limited group that I follow, mostly artists that share their work and writers that have something interesting to say; I do not aspire to become rich from Steemit, so I do not fixate on getting high payouts; thus, I do not have to "whore myself" to whales!
When I browse my feed, I am glad to see interesting articles and beautiful art. If I do not like someone's post for some time, I mute/unfollow them and keep my feed clean.
This is so true, indeed. I guess that the vast majority here are doing it for the money, and it is expected and understandable. But, personally, I think that I would miss the great posts on my feed, even if money in Steemit was thrown away. I never expected to be a steem-millionaire anyway, right?
Generally, I think it is all about users' expectations.
The "earn money" think level is just the 2nd level of my thought about Steemit. The first one is: "oh a great platform with no censure and with a clean layout without banners and others flicking garbage" :)
You are one of the few people who speaks the truth here.
When I joined steemit, my sole purpose was to earn money by writing any shit I could. I even plagiarised because the content never mattered to me.
I got flagged and I stopped writing here. Steemit never gave me any inspiration to write good quality content. It just appeared to me that it is an easy way to make money.
So, after a while, I made some friends on discord and steemit chat and 2 of them were professional writers and bloggers.
And when I saw their work, I enjoyed them, adored them and I wanted to be like them.
Only after that, I thought of writing some good quality content, improving myself every day and maybe one day become a good blogger and writer.
And the thing about good writers and bloggers is that steemit has very few of them.
Both of my friends left steemit after 2 months, they were writing professionally for more than 10 years.
I could not understand it then why they left when they could make money easily because they were such good writers, as steemit is all about writing, they should be on trending page and earn good amounts on each post.
But I understand it now, they did the right thing.
depends on how much SteemPower they have :| popularity contest tied with money, facebook 2.0 .....
at least you found those, I like this place for much the same reasons although I never dove head first for the rewards. I would disagree it's the right thing to do since that is up to anyone to choose, I for one like having good people around :D
I too love to be around some sound minds.
Damn. I'm not going to try to dissuade you, because, well, you make a good point, but you will be missed here. One would hope Stinc will take this as a strong hint, but they probably won't because they have an enorm bord voor hun kop. That's Dutch.
And what about that cliff?
I'll be writing Black and Silver, don't worry. I'll either burn or decline the rewards, or just post it somewhere else. I'll provide a link, of course.
That's great. It's not all I am worried about, though. Oh well. Live long and prosper. Or stay well and cope. Or whatever you see fit to do.
So you found that 99% of people are dump, but still try to "appeal" your retarted friends, and feel bad that you are superior to everyone else. I don't know what content have you made by I am upping the game on my other channel @steemilicious
You've been cashing out a few hundred bucks per week from here. I'm eager to see how long this extended break lasts.
Yeah, goes to show I've been in a pretty good position, and could continue to be in such a position if I chose to keep my mouth shut.
As a relative newcomer, I am only just starting to see the problems that you are describing. I thought this would a nirvana compared to Facebook. In comparison, it is, but there are structural problems that if not addressed will turn this into a shadow of what this could have been. I am still naively hopeful that this will change though...
check my comment here, I have linked my "farewellish" post from a year ago, things probably won't change unless we change them or challenge them, either way, don't expect change when the goal is "mainstream adoption" and "fucking billions(probably)"
I think there's a fair amount of valuable community members, it's simply that finding the good content is somewhat hard, given that people can pay for their content to appear in the top AND profit from that payment at the same time. If we were to find a way to make the 'promoted' section do its job properly and stop all that bought upvote nonsense finding the good content would be a lot easier, however since that's most likely not going to happen I feel like we'd simply need an alternative interface to Steemit that makes finding the good stuff easier while filtering all the bought attention out. That should definitely be possible, it just hasn't been done yet, at least to my knowledge.
orrr check out https://busy.org it's by miles better the only difference being you can lose your long comments if you don't post them and close the window ... :D Steemit lost me a looooong time ago, then completely disgusted me with the acid rebranding. Well it is what it is.
