Will the price of Steem keep dropping?
It could, I don't know. I tend to think we are just moving with the markets.
If the price does keep falling we get new buyers and new stakeholders! Whoot!
Will we ever get SMTs?
Maybe not, what if we never ever get them.. Ever.
Ok, I like the idea, but if they don't come the blockchain still moves forward. I'm pretty sure we will get them, I don't know when.
What if more people sell their votes?
More people will be spreading money around the Steem economy.
Our Content Reward System is Broken
Well, it would be pretty tough to say that it is working properly, yet there are a lot of fairly young accounts that I see doing great. I found them somewhere. Usually from my comment section, but often from other people's comment section, and sometimes from meeting them on Discord. These people are accepting Steem where it is right now and they are writing interesting things, others read, comment and engage. Some people post trash and upvote it with bots and that will not change until people are willing to risk their own rewards to flag.
People Are Powering Down
Excellent! Drive the price low so the short-term people get out and allow those who are interested to join.
There Are Hungry People In the World
I know, this is a sad thing. There always have and always will be hungry people. The better our economy the more opportunity they may have to change their life.
If you are wondering at this point what I am talking about... If I can accept things they way they are and ask myself, "If nothing changed would I stay?" and answer yes, everything is okay.
I haven't been online as much.. (Damn HotSpot Blues) I am hearing some say people are powering down and leaving, but I have no idea who. :)
I've always said Steem isn't for everyone and it isn't a get rich quick scheme. Crypto markets go up and down and interest in crypto right now appears to be down based on the prices. Steem is flawed, but it also works. This is not a short term project.
Maybe I am weird, I enjoy Steem. I enjoy talking about Steem. I enjoy talking about other topics with Steemians about other topics. I am not over invested, if it went to 0 I could eat and pay my bills, but yes, I am hoping for much more. I don't expect it tomorrow though.
Let those who are wanting to be Millionaires tomorrow move on. Those of us who are engaged and involved will start to influence the culture. We will set better expectations, we will engage. We will teach people to use flags, stop whining, appreciate the process of solving problems and working together. We will teach people to be tolerant of others doing their own thing on the blockchain.
There will be witnesses that move the blockchain forward every three seconds and people who continue to blog, vlog, sing, art, etc. We will lose some new users, because they don't know what they are getting into and don't stay around long enough to find out. Or maybe they are just not interested. There are many things that are good that I am just not interested in. I bet some others feel the same.
Competition is coming and many will go check it out, in fact I will check it out, because competition is good. Those projects will have their own sets of problems, some of them similar to ours, and some different. In the end they will make us better.
If I sell my Steem and buy STRAT (Random, it was a name that came to me) Let's say I can buy 10 STRAT, I will continue to have 10 of them, if the price goes up or down, I will have 10 STRAT. If I have 10 Steem, I can use them to make 11, and 12... 100, 1000, .. I think you get the point.
Do what is right for you.

Lots of good points. I'm enjoying being on Steemit. I learn something every day, get a little more comfortable with the cryptocurrency market, and have a place to express creatively. What's not to like?
When SMT launch there will be no complainers! With STEEM we print more STEEM DOLLARS and collect more STEEM! But by holding others, we can't!@whatsup,

Those powering down and making a run for it are free to do so. This platform isn't for the impatient. As of today there is nothing quite like it, makes me wonder why people choose to ignore the bigger picture
I wonder if they ignore it or they just don't see it. They heard about crypto millionaires and came seeking easy money without effort. (not all, but some for sure)
Let them go, we need big picture people with long-term goals.

I agree with you here but I have to admit that I am a little salty about the price at the moment lol. I had the most successful post I have ever had (in terms of raw upvotes) but because the price is low it has only earned a good and much appreciated but still pretty modest payout despite having a few large upvoters. Such is life I guess.
Times might be a little hard right now but the site is still a fun place to waste the day and that is what gives it long term viability in my not an expert opinion.
I know a lot of people like to talk about everything that is wrong with this place but there is still a lot to love. I want to see this site do well and I think I can do well here if it does. Yeah, it has problems and the price is pretty "garbagey" compared to how it was in the recent past but is still the place I want to be at the moment.
So many are busy looking at what might be they miss what is. There is a goldmine waiting to explode and I see virtually no one talking about it. I did a post yesterday that was meant more for those who don't use Steemit (I get quite a few of my posts to rank on Google nicely, this one however did not, lol).
SteemPress could do much for the chain that everyone is expecting SMT to do. I invite everyone to check them out @steempress-io. If just a small fraction of the Wordpress bloggers get on board the snowball effect could be huge. And it is something we can support now and not wait for something beyond our control like SMT.
I keep reading this, yet look at how much I have invested, how much I have donated, how much I have used in renting SP delegation and I find after 6 months I have accumulated quite a bit of Steem while being able to help others, learn cool things and talk about some of the craziest conspiracy stuff out there with others just as bat shit crazy as I am. And get paid to do it.
Sign me up for 6 more months of broken please, lol.
I imagine many who complain do not appreciate much in their lives, and probably a good portion do not take responsibility for their ownership here. All of us are stakeholders here and waiting for others to be leaders usually results in things not getting done.
And when it does, and gold nuggets are falling from the sky, people will be complaining that they might get hit by metal falling on them.

Great comment mate. You’re right that the reward system may not be broken at all. No one ever said that we were meant to make 100s permpost right away. It’s about building our audience and then increasing our rewards over time.
I started out making nothing. 8 months later make $2 - $5 per post, and in another 8 months will probably make $10 - $15 per post. It won’t make me a millionaire but the progression is clear. And I’m fine with that.
That's an awesome progression. And when the bubble comes (it will come once the regulations are in place and that wall street/banker money floods in) everyone with strong hands in projects that aren't shit will be surprised at how high they push the quality coins/tokens.

This is pretty much my exact sentiment. I signed up in July 2017, but didn't begin using my account until about 3 months ago. I recognized the problems with the platform right away, but for me personally they weren't enough to drive me away.
After poking my head around a bit I'm not even sure I'm confident that any of the proposed changes will even happen. If they do those who want to stay will adapt if they don't all of us who want to be here will continue to fight the good fight.
Growing account is not as difficult, i will hit 500sp in 2 weeks, mostly from organic growth.
Now that you are living cheaper maybe you can afford to buy more? ;) lol
The longer I'm here, my attitude has shifted from: ""They should, change these things" to"Things are fine the way they are, but not perfect", and now "I don't want things to change" Now I'm talking about the system. At this point all I really want is a better user interface and additional features that don't actually involve the blockchain. Things like a messaging system built in, proper notifications, a facelift, basically all the things they're working on over at Steempeak.com, these things don't have to be done by Steemit Inc.
I think most of the complainers fall into a few categories that will always be here due to the nature of the system. People who don't understand the system, people that have unrealistic expectations, jealous people, misguided do-gooders that haven't learned that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and authoritarians that want things "their" way since everyone else's opinion is obviously stupid. It's just a lot of the same.
If you went to youtube, facebook, twitter, whatever and you started posting without lots of other real life friends on the platform, nobody would see your post, like your post or engage with you. If you either, bring your friends and family with you to Steemit, or make a serious effort to make friends who are here, then you'll have engagement, and you'll have fun, at least as much fun as you can have on any other site like this. If you want to make money, the rules don't change here, it's not a utopia or a get rich quick scheme, you have to work, and your work has to be valuable to someone. Effort in and of itself is not valuable. If what you're doing isn't working you have to try something else until you figure out something that does work, and there's no guarantee that even if you do that you'll make money. That's life people.

Yup. I've seen a couple too. Usually I've seen them getting recognized by support groups like @curie or @ocd or @minnowsupport which gives them that initial push to step into the world of Steemit.
Again, true. The markets will pretty much always be fluctuating. And if it's going down for a while, it'll flush out (not all obviously) the spammers and scammers and only the people who are genuinely interested will enter the platform.

I agree. The entire market is trashed currently but I believe it will get healthy again. When that happens, so will Steem. I do wonder when and if we will start to eventually see specific projects and coins not being tied to the market as a whole. Being and acting independent of BTC. One day I hope.

I truly believe that STEEM has great future. Bitcoin is 9 years old and steem is only 2 years old.
Macro Patience is key to success with steem and Creative entrepreneur like myself (sorry I’m not trying to be arrogant here) will make their own success and we’ll move steem price forward

I think we're just fine. I think there's a bit of a shakeout going on in the entire crypto field (wrote about that today) and we're getting close to some kind of bottom with the current bloodbath. There are still a few gamblers and "lottery players" who have to be shaken loose so we can make room for more long term investors. The next few months will be very interesting.
In the meantime, I am just having a good time writing, posting and interacting here. And I think I'm going to finally get around to checking out that whole @steemmonsters gig in more detail.

But sir, do you think vote selling is helping the system that much? Though nobody can be forced on what to do with their vote but we're not hoping for too many people to join the vote selling business. Also, since steemit is a blogging platform, i think it will be more ideal if the view counter is brought back because that is a very key feature in blogging platforms, also it would give everyone a level playing field and increase the quality of posts appearing on the trending pages if the amount of views a post generates is the only factor used in determining posts that appear on the trending pages instead of amount earned.
I really dont care, how much usd is the steem price. Ok, if i can earn some money, isnt a problem, but as you said, i have too my job, and my money for living, and i can help some people, who need the help.
But one thing, what isnt clear for me. The vote selling.
I want to stay over 80% (today is a bad day, i screw that), so i have just 10 vote every day.
It is NOT enough, the steemit is full with good stuff. I wish vote double or triple time, but i couldnt.

What we are doing here is good, regardless of the price of the Steem, even so, I think it will rise, Steem is one of the cryptocurrencies with greater possibilities in the whole market.
After reading more and more of your posts I find we have very similar thoughts/feelings about steemit.
You mention what I see as a key point about steem at the end. The ability to earn more and “compound” your earnings.
I think some invest too much emotionally or something in this platform and it sort of stops them from enjoying it. I figure it’s a fun hobby that can make me money, I hope it goes up in value but my day isn’t ruined if it doesn’t.

More than ok. We are great. No other blockchain has such a vibrant diverse community, exploring ideas, testing them, making crypto a real thing, instead of just talk, like nearly all the others.
