Aladdin and the Magic Lamp
Source
Everybody was wondering why the sultan had chosen to marry his daughter to the grand-vizier's son: he had only forgotten his promise to Aladdin's mother. And for that, he blamed the grand-vizier.
And the grand-vizier continues to put hurdles in front of Aladdin, making the sultan to ask for a big dowry, that he thinks Aladdin will never be able to give.
ON THE TWENTY-FOURTH NIGHT
Sheherazade said:
And the sultan proclaimed the divorce of his daughter Badrou'l-Boudour from the son of the grand-vizier, making it clear that nothing had been consummated and that the pearl remained virgin and imperforated. As for the grand-vizier's son, the sultan, out of respect for the father, appointed him governor of a distant province of China, and ordered him to leave without delay. which was executed.
When Aladdin had learned, at the same time as the inhabitants of the city, by the proclamation of the town criers, of the divorce of Badrou'l-Boudour, without consummation of the marriage, and the departure of the moron, he dilated to the limit of dilation and said to himself: "Blessed be this marvelous lamp, the first cause of all my prosperity! It's even better that the divorce had taken place without more direct intervention from the genie of the lamp, who, no doubt, would have ruined the cretin without recourse!" And he also rejoiced that his revenge had been so successful, without anyone, no more the king than the grand-vizier or even his mother, suspecting the part he had taken in the whole affair. And, without worrying that if nothing abnormal had happened since his marriage proposal, he waited, in complete tranquility, until the three months of the delay requested by the sultan had elapsed, And the very day after the last day, he sent his mother to the palace, dressed in her best clothes, to remind the sultan of his promise.
Now, as soon as Aladdin's mother had entered the diwan, the sultan, who, as usual, was in the process of settling the affairs of the reign, cast his eyes on her side and recognized her immediately. And she did not need to speak, for he remembered, to himself, the promise he had made to her and the deadline he had set. And he turned to his grand-vizier and said to him: “Behold, O vizier, the mother of Aladdin! It was she who brought us, three months ago, the marvelous porcelain full of jewels. And I do believe that she is coming, at the expiration of the deadline, to ask me to fulfill the promise I made to her concerning my daughter! Blessed be Allah who did not allow the marriage of your son, to remind me of the word given when I had forgotten my commitments because of you!" And the vizier, who in his soul remained very vexed at all that had happened, replied: "Certainly, O my master, kings must never forget their promises! But, in truth, when one marries one's daughter, one must inquire about the husband! and our master the king has learned little about this Aladdin and his family! Now, I know that he is the son of a poor tailor, who died in poverty, and of low status! Whence, then, can wealth come to the son of a tailor?" The king said: “Wealth comes from Allah, O vizier!" He said, “Yes, O king! But we don't know if this Aladdin is really as rich as his present gave us to believe! To assure us of this, the king will only have to ask, as the price of the princess, a dowry so considerable that only a son of a king or a sultan can afford it. And in this way, the king will only marry his daughter wisely, without risking giving her, once again, a husband unworthy of her merits!" And the king said: “Your tongue secretes eloquence, O vizier! Bring the woman forward, so that I can talk to her!" And the vizier beckoned to the chief of the guards, who led Aladdin's mother forward to the foot of the throne.
Then, Aladdin's mother prostrated herself and kissed the earth, three times, in front of the king, who said to her: “Know, aunt, that I have not forgotten my promise! But until now I have not yet spoken to you of the dowry demanded for the prize of my daughter, whose merits are very great! So you will tell your son that his marriage to my daughter, El Sett Boudrou'l-Boudour, will take place as soon as he sends me what I require as a dowry for my daughter, namely: forty large dishes of solid gold, filled to the edges with the same kinds of precious stones, in the shape of fruits of all colors and sizes, that he had already sent me in the porcelain dish; and these gold dishes will be carried to the palace by forty adolescent slave girls, beautiful as moons, who will be led by forty black slaves, young and robust; and all will march in procession, very magnificently dressed, and will come and place in my hands the forty jeweled platters! And that is all my request, my good aunt! Because I don't want to ask more of your son, out of respect for the present he has already sent me!"
And Aladdin's mother, quite appalled by this exorbitant request, prostrated herself a second time before the throne and withdrew to go and report to her son on her mission. And she said to him: “Ah! my son, I advised you well, from the beginning, not to think of this marriage with the Princess Badrou'l-Boudour!" And, with a great sigh, she related to her son the manner, otherwise affable, from which the King had received her, and the conditions he demanded before finally consenting to the marriage! And she added: “What madness is yours, oh my child! Pass again for the golden platters and for the jewels demanded! for I imagine you would be foolish enough to go underground and strip all the trees of their enchanted fruit! But as for the forty teenage slaves and forty young niggers, how are you going to do it, tell me? Ah! my son, it is again the fault of this accursed vizier, if this demand is so exorbitant; for I saw him, when I entered, lean into the ear of the king, and speak to him in secret! Believe me, Aladdin, renounce this project which will lead you to your loss, without recourse!" But Aladdin just smiled and replied to his mother, “By Allah! Oh mother, seeing you come in with that crooked face, I thought you were going to give me very bad news! But I can see now that you are still worrying about things that really aren't worth it! Know, indeed, that all the king has just asked of me for the price of his daughter is nothing compared to what I could really give him! So refresh your eyes and calm your mind. And only prepare the meal, because I am very hungry. And leave it to me to satisfy the king...

I see Aladdin is becoming more cunning and resourceful. He manages to manipulate the princess' marriage to his advantage and ultimately gets what he wants without anyone suspecting his involvement. Now he's faced with the king's exorbitant dowry demand, thanks to the grand-vizier. I'm sure it's with the the aid of his magical lamp that he will meet the demands.
The grand-vizier is the character in this chapter who grabs my attention the most. What does he gain from speaking negatively about Aladdin and his mother to the Sultan? His son can no longer marry the princess. Due to his suggestions, he portrays the power dynamics between the ruling class and the common people. Will the Sultan want his daughter to be married to the son of a 'poor tailor'? This goes to show that parents and would-be spouses should carry out detailed investigation before marrying anyone.
I'm looking forward to the next chapter. 😊😊
I've been waiting for this kind of challenge for Aladdin to happen; because it's an opportunity for the Genie to flex his powers :D
I was smiling while reading this sentence:
Aladdin is very confident because he knows exactly how powerful Genie is. The dowry requested by the Sultan is things that the Genie can magically provide for Aladdin. What I look forward to learning is the reaction of the Sultan and the Grand-Vizier as soon as the procession of the dowry takes place in the palace. Anyway, I don't want to get ahead of that.
I want to talk about the part where the Grand-Vizier is gaslighting the Sultan into asking for more dowry from Aladdin's mother during their meeting. I finally realized how dependent the Sultan is on the Grand-Vizier when it comes to his decision-making. At first, the Grand-Vizier delayed the marriage of Aladdin and the Princess for 3 months. He did that to buy himself some time to have his Son marry the Princess instead. And now, he's trying to sabotage Aladdin by advising the Sultan to ask for more dowry that he thinks is impossible for Aladdin to provide; LOL
What he doesn't know is that Aladdin has a Genie that's powerful enough to provide the requested dowry (I think). Of course, it's just an assumption because it hasn't happened yet. We will learn about that in the next part.
The Grand-Vizier is always been the shady character in this story and he's not giving up until Aladdin gives up on his quest to marry the Princess. It's not going to be easy for Aladdin but he seems determined enough to accomplish his goal to marry the Princess. We'll learn more about his plans in the coming parts of the story; I'm already looking forward to it :)
Yes, but remember that he is not the main villain.
I'm intrigued by this... so if he's not the main villain; are you saying that the Maghrebi is? If yes, then he will be re-introduced in the later part of the story.
Recalling back to the previous parts of the story, the only persons who know about the magic lamp and the Genie is the Maghrebi and Aladdin's mother; so it only makes sense that the Maghrebi is the main villain. And he really wants to have the Magic Lamp from Aladdin.
The Story is getting interested day by day, Until today I was thinking that Sultan has backed from his promise which he made to Aladdin's Mother, the real reason was that, he forgot about the promise.
And it was Duty of Grand Vizier to remind the Sultan about the promise he made to the Poor women, the wife of poor tailor, But he was in greed of his son to be married to the Princess.
So, now Finally we know Vizier is the main Culprit behind all the happenings, As the marriage of his son and princess have broken, now he Should not do any other thing to be wall between Aladdin and Princess marriage.
As now the Sultan has recognized the Mother of Aladdin and remembered the promise he made to the mother of Aladdin, He should simply marry her daughter to the Aladdin,
But here Vizier bad intention come into play again and he asked the Sultan to demand the heavy dowry, from the Aladdin mother for the marriage of his son. Which he thinks will be impossible for the Aladdin to full fill.
I truly hate the concept of this Dowry, it's should be allowed in the society. We all know it is very easy for Aladdin to full fill all the demand of the Sultan with the Help of genie. But his mother was worried that how the Aladdin will fulfill these demands.
Oh it seems that the son of the vizier has passed away and will soon forget the princess. But his father, the vizier, will not forget and it is clear that he does not want to make things easy for Aladdin or rather he wants to know where the misfortune that has devastated his son comes from.
The requirements will not be a problem for Aladdin who has the genius to fulfill his wishes.
But Aladdin has the genie or does the genie have Aladdin?
While the path for Aladdin to marry the princess is clear, a new challenge comes to him that he needs to overcome if it was to make that happen. The requirement of "forty large dishes of solid gold, filled to the edges with the same kinds of precious stones, in the shape of fruits of all colors and sizes, that he had already sent me in the porcelain dish; and these gold dishes will be carried to the palace by forty adolescent slave girls, beautiful as moons, who will be led by forty black slaves, young and robust" is quite hefty and it will put Aladdin to a big trial where courage and intelligence must prevail. What comes next, should depend only upon Aladdin!
In the 24th Night from the tale of Aladdin, the Sultan agrees to let Aladdin marry his daughter on the condition that he presents forty large dishes of solid gold, filled to the edges with precious stones, in the shape of fruits of all colors and sizes, as well as forty beautiful adolescent slave girls led by forty young and robust black slaves. This extravagant request highlights the Sultan's desire for grand displays of wealth and luxury, and sets the stage for Aladdin's use of his genie to fulfill the request and win over the Sultan's favor. Will he make it? We shall see.
Even today your post came two hours earlier as per routine but today I was busy with some work due to That's why I'm commenting now. The way I said in my comment three days ago that Sultan must have been repeatedly told by the Wazir, that's why the Sultan had a relationship with the Wazir's son and the princess, today the same thing has come to light. As far as I am concerned the minister is a very naughty person and he will not sit back so easily he will continue to create problems in the life of the princess and her parents.
Now the word had spread throughout the city that the princess and the minister's son had gotten divorced. Everyone was worried that how could the divorce happen so soon, only two or three days after the wedding. Allah Din very wisely did what he should have done, he dressed his mother in good clothes and sent her to the Sultan saying that he had promised me that he would marry my son.
Aladdin has a lot of confidence in himself at this time because what he has is very powerful and he can do it at this time. It was the minister's fault that the princess was married so quickly. There will be many more interesting things to come in this story because the Wazir is very sensible and will not allow Aladdin to marry the Sultan's daughter so easily. Now let's see how Aladdin insist Sultan in the coming days.
Aladdin's road to marriage proposal was so bumpy. He thought that if the princess divorced, the king would fulfill his promise and he could marry the princess, but it backfired, and the prime minister set up many difficulties to prevent Aladdin from getting married. However, Aladdin is confident that he can cope with it, and will Aladdin be able to solve these difficulties in the end? I can only look forward to tomorrow night's story
Although the prime minister is very bad, what the prime minister does has nothing to do with his son. His son, who never knew what had happened, was punished and sent away to a distant land. In the following story, will the prime minister's son still appear?
What do you think?

I loved seeing the conference level of Alladin when he replied to his mother that I can give the king more than that but he only asked for a small price for his daughter.
This is all the minister will do now because he will never want the princess with whom his son's marriage has broken up to marry somewhere else and that too in such a small family.
But what does this minister know, he can provoke the king as much as he wants, but the king who asks to Aladdin, Aladdin will fulfill all his demands with help of jinn(Genni).
Now it is to be seen that when Alladin fulfills all the demands of the king, one doubts that because that Aladdin belongs to a poor family, where did he have such expensive gifts to give to the king? Aye and how he managed these forty slaves? This is something that can make both the king and the minister wonder how Aladdin is doing such extraordinary things.
But anyway, today's part of the story was a lot of fun. Now it is to be seen that when Aladdin's mother fulfills all the demands of the king and takes all the things that the king has asked for with her and goes to the king's palace, what will be the reaction of the king and the minister?
