The Wadsworth Constant

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

Back in 2011, the Reddit user Wadsworth responded to a Reddit comment linked an instructional video on how to fold a bedsheet.

Sort:

haha... interesting... another variation on this principle is that the Wadsworth Constant for our POTUS is 100%.

Testing this out on my video uploaded today, I would say the first 25 seconds are indeed, skippable!

You know, this is interesting for me. I blog for some companies that help with video marketing, and the BEST advice is to always create short and punchy videos that catch attention in the first couple of seconds to keep an audience. Obviously, if your theory is true, video makers are doing something wrong.

However, I do see video makers filling up time with a bunch of boring crap in the beginning. Maybe that's OK for an instructional video, but it's a bad way to market. This gives me an idea for a post about video marketing, so thanks. <3

It's like websites, you have 3 seconds to capture someone's attention. Short punchy videos are extremely powerful due to this, but a majority of videos are 1 minute or longer and this constant applies consistently in my experience.

Anyway, I published some stats that sort of prove your premise. Most videos don't retain an audience until the end or even for very many seconds. If people aren't getting the traction they want from longer videos, a solution could be to shorten them up but make them more direct. Thanks for the inspiration!

good informations friend

Happy year to all and we wish all the struggle and diligence in this year to realize your dreams
Let us make this year a beautiful and happy year for all

That is awesome information, I'm going to try that out on Youtube now! :-)

Your posts are always helpful. Thanks for sharing

Great post, I totally agree. I think this applies to written story as well.

it's very helpful what I share is motivated by the ideas that pour, thanks for the idea.

So, my estimate is that on Youtube, at least 70% of the whole of the videos ever posted are worthless, so if you then scratch the 30% of the remaining 30%, does this then give us Wadsworth squared ?
I can see a simple constant becoming a full blown Phd worthy theorum before very long !

Let's apply it to this article:
This post has 1100 Characters.
Skipping the first 330 Characters:

a waste. This holds true for nearly every video in the universe.
In other words, Wadsworth claims you can skip the first 30% of any video and not lose much of the meaning. In my experience, this is works quite well. In fact, it was so accurate Google added a hidden feature to YouTube to skip ahead 30%.

Give it a try on some videos and see if it holds true for you. I don't always do it, but I do use it a lot.

It still works!
Fantastic!
;)

I guess this explains why I miss nothing when I watch at 2x speed.

I would like to have a constant named after me. But then it would be a variable. Hmm...

That's cool. Never knew that.

I wonder if this percentage is smaller now days. Seems like the first 10-20% of the videos I watch, but will have to test this out and see.

Why has this post been downvoted so much? I don't see anything wrong with it?

Because I provided some data showing one user @haejin getting ~$20K/day and his army attacked me with threats and downvotes to silence me because the people downvoting him were much bigger and I am an easier Mark.

I presume the way he was supposed to get his income is in your opinion somehow morally wrong?

When it is a shared reward pool that takes away from other users, hell yes it is. No one is saying he can't post and make money, but 10-15 times a day at $380+ from primarily one voter? How do you not see a problem?

Why this post is downvoted to oblivion?

@themarkymark answered/is answering that question just one comment above (I asked further).
