Tragedy of Sad History.

in #travel7 years ago

While walking along the wall, I could find so many wall stones which have been using as house foundation and blocks.

With the colonial rule by imperial Japan, the wall of Choson dynasty had been collapsed quickly.

Some walls were removed for house building and stones were changed it’s mission from nation defence to house defence or house building foundation.

So I felt it a kinds of tragedy when I saw the stones which were originally wall stones.

some stones became the wall of a house.

some walls became a foundation of a house building

They build a house on the wall.

Small gate of the wall was blocked.

Some walls were cut by the house building.

Could it be possible in normal country ?

The nation, king and nobles could not defend their country and people.
So people didn’t need show respect to the wall and think the wall important.

So they use the wall stones for their house building. I could find so many stones using for house building.

steps

not only for the poor, but also the rich

No one ever had restraint to remove walls and move the stones.

That’s the traces caused by the tragedy of history.

The wall had suffered the historical pain with it’s people.

Beautiful pictures

Thanks for sharing the history of this amazing wall.
My friend, I enjoy reading your posts. I love the rich history of your land.

Nice photo @slowwalker thank you for sharing

Great photos.

Wow, thanks for showing us this! I can see your point that the wall is sort of like a metaphore for the customs and traditions of Seoul that were not preserved due to colonial rule and other interests. The history of Seoul is really fascinating.

Something there is that doesn’t love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
And spills the upper boulders in the sun;
And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.
The work of hunters is another thing:
I have come after them and made repair
Where they have left not one stone on a stone

It is one thing to mend a wall, @slowwalker, it is another thing to disrespect and destroy it. These people have no regard for tradition or the past, and unlike you, they never reflect on what they are doing.

The ancient walls are part of the heritage and culture of Seoul and it's shameful to allow people to flaunt it and use the stones for their own purposes simply to save money on construction.

My wife and I often go on hikes on trails around our home and we see plants and rocks in the woods that we would like to use in our garden, but we don't take them. People need to respect things - plants and animals and all the natural beauty around us--and to protect our cultural heritage.

This was a good post, @slowwalker, highlighting the need to protect our traditions and our national monuments and buildings.

:)

Nice pictures

What a fascinating perspective on historical site.

These stones structures are really very solid @slowwalker! It will stay there for a lot of time more! More and more generations will witness these!
Was it hot today walking along the wall mate?
Cheers and thank you again for sharing these historical facts of your country!

It's not normal clearly that walls are part of the culture

Trying to conserve their history but in return them to suffer.l wish there didn't build any house there but rather leave the walls like that

wow, lovely ancient place. great architecture. thank you for sharing.
have a nice day

Historical places need to be retained. Thanks for the wonderful information and photographs.

Your post is very interesting and good in my opinion, you are very creative in determining the object that you will make as a post, thank you, hopefully you can always make an interesting post and hope you always succeed and get the achievement as you expect ....

history cant save you from storm

Great photos and thanx for sharing the history....

Can't believe the wall has been in so many different places but I guess it adds to the effect that it sticks with everyone and it has affected people in some way shape or form
Graph Photographs @slowwalker

nice place with historical pain.

very good post. all the walls above are Japan picks?

That's very sad... Upvoted.

If people find anything in open space without any security or locks, they tend to steal it or harm it. It is normal human tendency becuase we all have been evolved from the animals and at these time, the animal inside us is awaken. But there is some good in this, people will take care of these stones more because now it has become a part of their houses. So it is good as well as bad news at the same time.

thats sad.... they should treasure them because it is part of the history.... and it has architectural value... it lost it value when you do that.... knowing how strong their foundation... on some places eggyolk was used to hold those stones...usually churches and temples uses those kind of method

Nice cultural piece of history!

Nice place and nice pics

Are all the stones from the local area? I have seen places where stones are sourced from phenomenial distances for some reason, or tradition, or meaning. It can be interesting.

Wow. Interesting. So are they like takeing pieces away or are they just building near the structure?

History is so important to our cultures. Thank you for sharing this information and pictures with us.

Very sorry for that. I suppose, such things only happen in developing countries, where daily necessities are more important than historical heritage.

Very sad history

But the fact is this the wall still holding the burden of all the time it has seen. And it ll continuing to do so in near future, hopefully . Seoul has a rich historic value. I have been reading about it a lot lately. Your posts add some significant value to it. Thanks @slowwalker

Wow, It is a beautiful ancient place. :D

Your photos remind me on my own city. It was built in medieval ages and almost completely of stone

It seems that walls could be used in any form

The last line got me!
"The wall had suffered the historical pain with it’s people."
Beautiful pictures.
Beautiful story.

It's the same sad situation in Peru where he Spanish ruined temples, walls and sacred sites to build their houses and churches 😔

Well, this is quite common. Re-utilizing material has been an extended strategy everywhere. In Spain I have seen plenty of houses built against a defence wall or using its stones. Sometimes when building new structures they discover these things and have to stop the works.

In some other cases is really sad, not being reused nor conserved. That is the case of the arab wall in Madrid:

Full story in Spanish

The protection of historical monuments is very complex and depends on the common sense and the laws that a nation has. Not everyone thinks the same about the same thing ..... I'm sorry for the wall

Hi @slowwalker
It looks beautiful and magical. Should be preserved.
@chainarong

Great post....tq for sharing

It must have pained some people to see the stones was used for others own purposes. They should have taken good care of the stones for they have a cultural significance on korean history.

Sad to see that situation; but at least they didn't destroyed it and in a good way, they put it to use. Like a part of their home has a part of history.

The walls are so beautiful with their stones I very much enjoyed your pictures, so much history thanks for the story and the wonderful pictures🕊🕊🌺

Is that legal?

the story of the history you give very good and also touched the @slowwalker, those who built the House on the edge of the wall and on top of this, there are no restrictions of what local government @slowwalker, whereas it is a wall that has a special history.

Wow I had no idea. What a timely post as we in the US want to build a wall.

It's really sad (You're a good man with a big and kind heart.
