Sorry Erkan, no offense meant to you but I think the unilateral decision has already been taken by "The Powers That Be".
Such a shame to have put so many peoples backs up when a simple discussion with the active users on the main channel would have allowed this 'operation kick/ban the cheaters' to have gone without all the ensuing drama.
The cheaters are not active so doing it there should have sufficed and the warning given.
What a shame. I'm sure you've noticed I've disconnected from Gridcoin IRC and I honestly don't know if I'll be back.
Oh and Erkan I'll bet you that you'll be the one left to field the complaints. I'd suggest you don't..
The vote will only go one way and we all know which way that'll be.

Well, I'm back in the IRC and I've decided to stay active for my benefit and that of the community.
Unfortunately it seems that the 'operation kick/ban the cheaters' is still continuing without the required due diligence that I believe is essential to ensure fair-play.
At least a warning to a suspected nick on the main channel could be issued and if the nick does not respond within a prescribed period they may be deemed to be out of order.
In my world you are innocent until proven guilty.
Unfortunately at the moment it seems the opposite is the case and you are guilty until proven innocent.
I personally, have found this to be the case after a series of honest errors on my part, leading to recent unfounded accusations of cheating by me.
There are two main principles by which I lead my life:
- Honesty.
- Standing up for fair-play.
Without following these two principles I feel I would have no integrity so I follow them diligently.
Indeed, what happened has happened. However, Barton requested the poll to be created on his behalf; it will help define how IRPG should be handled in the future.
Please don't take this too seriously, we've lost valuable community members in the past to IRC arguments & I'd prefer that we didn't lose any more in a similar manner.
Lol, buying into Jamezz's "GRC8" conspiracy theory? I've abstained from the poll. It's up to the community, everyone has a say.
m3ros1y, I hope that you reconsider staying away from Gridcoin IRC. In order to grow a positive community, opinions such as yours are needed in such discussions. I understand not wanting to deal with drama, and not wanting to support actions that result in such drama... we are in this for entertainment, not further drama and issues. However, in every community there are bumps and issues of some conflict... the answer is not to abandon said communities but instead to participate, share your opinions in discussions, and promote consideration of new ideas... to the betterment of the community.
If anyone's getting sick of IRC, please take a short break rather than completely leaving the community. This will all blow over in a week's time.
Submitted without comment.

Why can't anyone just get rid of the offending party? I take it the person handing out bans isn't the person who wrote the program, right? What right does he have, at all? I don't get this whole thing, which is why I voted 'abstain'.
The individual who wrote the program is heavily absent from IRC, community moderation is somewhat needed.
Abuse of IRPG using bots could be compared to rain/faucet siphoning and should potentially be dealt with, however I acknowledge that bans may have been hastily dished out. It's been a learning experience for everyone involved.
The owner of the bot actually told me to try and figure out some way to stop the cheating in the irpg, as well as in the now defunct (for the exact same reason) #gridcoin-games room... hence the creation of GRCB0T.
Its original intent was a tipbot that would be locked to email or some such. I have screenshots of his permission from March of this year.
He would honestly also prefer if we could get a different tipbot running on our stuff, so he could free his resources for other things. :)
So the wording of the vote: "heavily moderated" in particular, are what gets me. i take it the person or persons handing out bans wouldn't feel that their actions have been necessarily "heavy" but necessary? Has this person made any statement about their actions? Is there any way to disable the bot pending the outcome of this vote?
Thanks very much for your answer. I am interested in this vote, quite, and would like to have all the information. Sorry to barrage you with questions.
I put the question up on IRC for community input prior to creating it.
Rino has posted multiple times to this thread.
We could kick the bot from the channel, but it's not advisable because it'd create a headache for the bot owner.
No worries, thanks for posting :)
Ok, thanks again, I'll peruse this thread further.
It's good to have you back in IRC again. I hope the discussion in yesterday's hangout #18 has helped people to present each view. I think, in total there were like 1-2h talkings (incl. afterward session) only about this matter. https://steemit.com/gridcoin/@cm-steem/gridcoin-community-hangout-018-03th-dec-2016-9pm-gmt-rsvp-and-suggest-topics
