Hey Again Steemitizens!
This is me in my element, on the air on SteemStar Network talking to steemitizens and witnesses and community leaders every Sunday. It's the highlight of my otherwise task and treachery filled weeks spent soloing my life and living it sleepless on Steem.
Today, I'd like to take a moment and ask you all a pretty straight forward question...
If over 1800 of you follow me and assuming a good number are probably "dead" or "dormant" followers who are no longer active on steemit or are bots and such, that still leaves a pretty large number of you who are actually "out there."
SoI have 1822 followers but when I look at my witness vote count, I see that I only have 295 voters.
This means that all of this is true:
I have:
1822 followers total
600 are apparently "dead" (no post or vote within a month)- http://steemit.deadfollowers.info/ seems to be inoperable so i'm using the last times I checked as an assumption here, running an average of about 30% dead over the past few months.
So, I really have:
1200 Approximate Active Followers
295 Witness voters
Which means about 900 of you are not voting for my witness.
So let me ask you, why? What can I do to win your witness votes?
Is the charity work we do with your help via @YouAreHOPE for orphans, sick, homeless and weather emergency affected people by the hundreds in 7 countries now, not enough? Could we be doing more, differently, better?
Is the @SteemStarNetwork not serving content you want to consume? (Though we are grateful to the many of you who DO join us for the shows!) Could we improve it to serve your streaming media interests better?
Do you have issue with my witness position on various topics around the ecosystem?
Have I let you down by being a less than steller contributor at times, especially in the communities I live in on discord, which I find so dear and important, but take so much of my time, I never give enough time to each of them individually? (I am in about 35 and that's low by comparison to some of my peers, I don't know how you all do it including our DM loads from random strangers begging us for stuff all the time - @crimsonclad, @shadowspub, @topkpop, @bearone, we are all looking at you here.)
Just don't like me? That's cool, I got people I definitely don't like. If you don't have haters, you ain't even playing.
Can we talk about it? Work it out? Win you over?
I'll be honest, things have felt a little stagnant lately, and our projects, communities, and my witness need a little encouragement, as at times, it begins to feel a little futile, like it so often does for the minnows we defend and support as we run these missions like the charity to feed the poorest and the radio to give voices to the stronger ones who have made it at least to steem and this far already.
Hats off to all of you who have become the focus of my life and attention and passion, via steem, and the blockchain we share here. I am at your disposal today to discuss any of this. I'm @SirCork in discord and steemit.chat as well.
Empowering my witness will fuel my ability to maximize the charity work, and focus on the existing projects I operate as well as many others I would like to be able to do, given the time and funding an elevated witness position would allow for. So please consider what I've demonstrated in the thousands of hours I've invested here over the past 8 months and let's help me do moarrrr of it for you and the neediest people on Earth beyond our beloved platform here.
Yes, I am basically asking for your vote, or in lieu of that, a fair conversation about why. Ideally, right here in the comments, kind or critical, as I don't mind airing any of this for all to see. If I'm wrong fine, but if you come at me falsely, well, I'd like to see that right here in clear air too.
Here I am. Hit me, hit me hard.
Please, and thank you!
[edit/addition]
@nnnarvaez has informed me of the following:
https://steemconnect.com/sign/account-witness-vote?witness=sircork&approve=1
And it will ask user and active key and cast the vote in a secure and easy way.
So if you are ready to vote and want it one-click easy, this will do the trick. Thanks Nathan!

Your dedicated, charitable, platform passionate Steem Witness
I like your work, I'm just beginning to follow you, but maybe you need to change the strategy to reach more effective followers and fewer bots. Hook your followers with a little more call to action, I think the question for you here is, How would you involve your followers more in your work? so that they stop being witnesses and start begin the protagonists.
P.D: excuse my English!
Regards
I understood you, and with that outlook you will do well here. Thank you for commenting and your suggestions, good for all to take note of, and good luck in your journey here. ;)
By the way, in the area that you work, I think that you are not taking full advantage of the storytelling behind each project you do, I have volunteered in several ONGs in my country and I know that what connects you with this wonderful work, are those stories that thrill and inspire us
I'm working on coaching the Agents of HOPE in that area all the time, as I know for sure it's the story that tells the tale. For most of them, they are translating their field reports into English of course and the native language posts are much more on point in this regard, but I cannot read them. :D I have been keeping my eyes out for folks who are more aware of how the very real business of marketing charitable concerns for transparency and donor encouragement works but for now, I am one man swimming upstream mostly on his own in terms of management here. I am a career team builder, and it is my best real skill actually, however, finding the right people for this effort has been my biggest challenge yet in a 30 year career of mostly management roles.
You're doing it right!! Here you have a friend and a collaborator in case you need help with your Spanish (hahaha), anyway I would like to contribute with you in the future, every bit counts.
Regards!
Thanks! We do have a few Spanish speaking folks involved already for sure, but more are always welcome!
Certainly you deserve a witness vote, YouAreHOPE is a very good project. I keep seeing your resteems under this project.
Voted you for witness Sir. I will also make sure, I spread the words to get you more witness votes.
Thank you sanmi - I have often noticed around the place and always loved your profile icon ;)
Alas 🙏, its a privilege to be noticed by you Sir.
Ha,I think you've probably been here longer or as long as me :D
You are doing fine and really don't know how much more one could be expected to do! It is great that you have put this post out to your followers though explaining the importance of witness voting.
My name is Sargento, and I approve this message!
Have a great week bud and stay safe during your trip (and get a heavier coat for godsake! lol)
Oops, witness voting to the rescue.
I've actually not fully understood the witness everything, but I'm learning more about them. And yay, I've voted you as one of my first 10 witnesses.
Still looking for advice on how the witness voting works.
Keep the great work going sir, you're doing a really great job, glad to have met you in the Discord channel. Cheers
Well thank you kindly! You can look at who I vote for, to find some real gems!
Haha well thanks for the mention. If y'all aren't voting his witness I do definitely recommend it (and I already do I might add), I mean come on this guy is literally helping people all over the world through YAH, that alone is enough of a reason to vote his witness. I also have to say I like that you ask for input and reasons if people think you aren't doing enough.
Thank you @topkpop, very kind of you.
Sometimes, life is just what it is. They some times leave the good people unnoticed because natural the minds of humans are filled with wickedness. I am very greatful for the support shown to the little project i want to do for the less privileged kids @youarehope gave me joy and i just voted as my witness and if you have your crew of witnesses, never fail to name them here so that incan vote for them too. Thank you for being kind and generous, the sjy shall be your starting point.
Looking at the witnesses I choose to vote for will take you to the hardest working people on the platform in various ways and means that they each bring their unique assets and talents to. Thank and you good luck with the kids. We are happy to be able to help with @YouAreHOPE.
You know I've been proxying your witness vote for some months now, so if you're not voting for yourself, I can't help :P
What a cl0wn. :)
I just double checked, and yep, i already got you on my Witness votes after hearing about YAH awhile back.
I have to wonder if the problem has more to do with the fact that Witness voting is one of the lesser understood and obscure aspects of the STEEM blockchain, and not so much that people are not voting for you based on policy. I must admit, i still do not understand the finer points of witness voting, just the basics.
It's one of those things that is so inconsequential to being able to use the platform and so often ignored by the larger community that new users have VERY little that pushes them to actually learn about the different witnesses, their projects, and their policies.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on that.
That's a whole post on it's own to be certain. And one that many witnesses and users alike have repeatedly made, but perhaps it bears more of the same :)
Witnesses are critical to the whole thing even existing, and as users mature they tend to figure that bit out, then dig in a little deeper, usually their 50ish rep levels they begin to understand enough to make solid and aware witness decisions and to be honest, before that, their votes are pretty unpowerful anyway, usually, though they still add up and lend a voice of support to the witnesses they prefer.
It's a simple and complex topic all at the same time.
I had you as one of my votes, but aggroed is my proxy, which means being voted thru msp.
let me know if I am not voting for you. we will remedy.
you are doing a great job!
sorry I do not get into chat more often.. my bad.
;-)
Yeah, I really don't think that anything he controls or msp is responsible for touches much of anything I do, just sayin'.
fixed.
Thank you Jesse, you are a true friend.
Hello@sircork , I'm new on steemit and I started to follow u a couple of days ago, but the work you are doing is very beautiful. I will investigate how to make the vote to help you continue and not have dead followers lol.
Saludos :)
Thank you so much and welcome to this crazy new world you have just discovered.
Thanks.. have a great day ;)
Voting for witness out of the top 50 is complicated for lack of a better word (wait broken comes to mind)
but with steemconnect it is a matter of just doing this:
https://steemconnect.com/sign/account-witness-vote?witness=sircork&approve=1
And it will ask user and active key and cast the vote in a secure and easy way.
Hey that's handy.
Hey @sircork, I just made my very first witness vote ... guess who?
I love your post, didn’t need any convincing though, just a reminder!
I had you on my scope the whole time, just wanted to get more familiarized with Steemit & check you out!
My vote for you is well given! Thank you for being you & all you do ✌️❤️✊️🎶
Huggins & Nuggins 😘
Aww shucks, thanks! I am glad to be your first ;) :*
Ahahaha, you are very welcome ;)
Very good questions you have. I don't have all the answers as I spend a great deal of my time STILL finding my way around since the beginning of Oct. I do have a list of witnesses I've voted for because those are ones I see quite often in name doing something that is benefiting the platform. I just really haven't come across your name that often, but am sure it is not because you are not busy but only because this is a large pond here. I found and followed you after a post made by one of your followers about the @YouAreHope and that caught my eye.
I have many things in the works in hopes it will add value to the platform, just so many of those things take some focus on my part and I get spread a bit thin as you are experiencing as well.
I have owned the domain FundYOURCause.com for many years and it has changed its face many times and has laid dormant for some of the past years. I am very impressed with what @familyprotection is doing and some of the other causes which are starting to appear here on the platform. I also have noted that Steemit.com is rising in Alexa rankings and have now redirected my domain to a blog making it easier for me to build. As I began looking for other "causes" on Steemit to begin making backlinks from the blog I came across your @YouAreHope and have been reading some of the Steemians posts from Venezuela and am so impressed. Will be adding links on the blog back to the causes here on the Steemit platform soon.
As for voting for witnesses, I have voted for a few. One I voted for in the beginning I decided to remove the vote only because as soon as I began visiting his posts my CPU began rising through the roof on an old computer that was already simply limping along and with the added usage it seemed to use up all the memory and the little bandwidth I get each month from satellite internet so I had to order another laptop just to continue with Steemit. That issue is resolved for now but am a bit skeptical of who I vote for because I will undoubtedly end up reading their posts and can't afford another computer nor a choice for another internet provider.
I am now interested in learning more about your @SteemStarNetwork and will be checking it out and just bookmarked steemstar.net. I love the MSP_Waves when I have the bandwidth to tune in (which is the first 2 weeks of the month)
Thank you for taking the time to post your concern. So as not to take up all your comment space here I will just say this. I will definitely vote you as a witness and I see that can be done in the dropdown box on my own page. Whoooo Hoooo! "Love it when a plan comes together."
So a bit of history... I built MSP Waves from scratch with my blood, sweat and tears, glad you enjoy it. :) SteemStar Network is similar but since it's my second time building a network, it's much more robust, tho with a few less shows since we're not as old yet.
As for YAH, we've done work in 7 countries now, Venezuela just being a tad more high profile than the others on the platform for now, but keep digging into our history since we began in October when I resigned from senior leadership and building PAL with the rest of that team for months on end to pursue these efforts.
Thanks for the thoughtful remarks and observations, I've seen you before around here and it's nice to see you again and hear from you.
Thanks!
What I have determined is that it is the Witnesses that keep the Steem in our sails so a big thank you for all you and the other witnesses do around this pond. The entire concept of what is happening with this blockchain platform continues to grow for me each day. So much opportunity to make real change and it is available to anyone that dares to give it a go. Will see you around!
It's mind-boggling, isn't it? See you on the block!
Already voting for you and I don't think most people understand or value the impact that witnesses have on this platform. They are too busy chasing whales or witness that are already in the top20 all the while complaining about how Steemit functions, but not doing anything to change it. You already have my vote and best of luck with this initiative.
Thank you so much and I hope we have you as a participant on the SoS show again soon!
Again?
Id swear youve been over there before, was that on waves back in the day? I dunno.
For me you only have to keep posting and gaining credibility. You are walking a good path for my to witness.
Working on it :) I achieved rep 61 on Saturday night in fact! :) I am very proud to have made it this far. Thank you for your comment and advice.
Sorry to disappoint you, but i won't cast my vote for you today.
Why?
Because I'm already voting for you since day one :-)
ROFL
This is a terrible tragedy, indeed! :) Thank you!
No, thank you!
Man i wish i had the language skills and the patience to write what you just wrote :)
Marky yesterday made me realize in my desperation i sometimes become a bitchy whinny beggar and reminded me i am not entitled to be noticed.
I think this quote from your post resumes the feeling most us the "rebels" feel at times:
I will be reading the comments here i am sure there will be answers for many of us...
The magic of this place is that we find them in places we never thought of looking for them.
And it is a magical place, but there is good and bad magic, and I'm still just idealistic enough to root for the good guys, and the underdogs and the downtrodden.
bots
90% of all votes cast on Steemit are cast by bots.
don't forget to take that into consideration.
I'm sure you're a GREAT witness.
But I'm pretty satisfied with the one's I'm already voting for.
Thanks for your input and compliment.
Thank you sircork for making a transfer to me for an upvote of 15.49% on this post!
Half of your bid goes to @budgets which funds growth projects for Steem like our top 25 posts on Steem!
The other half helps holders of Steem power earn about 60% APR on a delegation to me!
For help, will you please visit https://jerrybanfield.com/contact/ because I check my discord server daily?
To learn more about Steem, will you please use http://steem.guide/ because this URL forwards to my most recently updated complete Steem tutorial?
You've a point here... but from those 900 active followers that haven't vote you as a witness (and surely they haven't voted almost any witness) are new in the steemit community?. I want to remark this because the steemit platform isn't easy to understand for newcomers and there are many things to learn about block-chain, markdown, cryptocurrency, STEEM, SBD and witnesses.
When I came here to steemit almost 2 months ago I tried really hard to find a place to belong, I'd found it I've learned a lot of things...yet I haven't used all witness votes (only 13), I want to use them but I don't know which other witness deserve my remaining votes... So I'll do a research in near future.
It would be easy just to choose someone as a proxy but if I do this I'd would like to know which witnesses I'll be supporting and what they do.
The thing is that the witness-vote-system is not very friendly for new users in my opinion and it catched my attention because is not like the active users/followers don't like to support witnesses maybe the just don't know enough about the platform and how it works. Almost every newcomer just vote for the witness(es) from his/her community and don't try to look further than this. It happens that in the discord server I do chat the most (@reveur) we've a really nice BOT which you can ask for the info of every steemit user, and I've seen a lot of this
Has votado - You've voted
Aun te quedan - You still have
And I'm talking about members which have more than a few weeks on steemit... So maybe they aren't informed enough about the witness duties and how to support them and the importance of using as many votes as possible. But I'm sure they would give you their support if you ask for it in a straightforward way from time to time just like you're doing right here in this post.
I really like the work you do (you’ve done), you’ve helped so many people of my country, Venezuela. Thank you very much for your hard work. I still have many things to learn tho but you count with my support!... I’ve already voted you as a witness but it would be better to choose you as a proxy? Which witnesses would I be supporting if I do that? Sorry for my ignorance…
Best regards from Venezuela.
Well... you make good points and you ask the right questions. Good stuff. @nnnarvaez is doing fine work in there and beside me in YouAreHOPE. We have done work in seven countries now, but Venezuela is where it all began for me here and caused me to found YouAreHOPE in the first place.
I've helped thousands of users come on board here over the past 9 months and been a big part of many communities here in terms of educating people about what's going on here, so I can tell you that you are right, new users have no idea what is going on with the whole witness thing for sure.
To see who I, or anyone else votes for, look us up on steemdb.com or my preference, http://steemian.info/witnesses and click the menu option for witnesses->who votes and you can put in my name and see who I vote for, https://steemian.info/whovotes This information is available at a bunch of other different outlets too.
@clavismil if you want you can prepare a witness master class for STEEMaprende, check the links @sircork sent you visit them explore it is a nice information tool made by another witness @drakos, if you still have questions feel free to ask here or in the discords, i can show you how to read the info.
You are right about education i used to make posts about it and i explain a lot in @reveur server when we are chatting but i avoid advising any of you to either proxy or asking your guys to vote for this or that one.
I can easily add to the discord bot the list of witness voted for, what i really aim to is to make you discover and understand the importance of using your power to choose, not delegate it.
Now having said that i do proxy my vote to sircork because i trust him and we where voting for almost the same guys anyway.
But i did my research and chose first.. I think it is important for the developpment of quality steemians that you get to see first who represents you...
I can give you as i did the list of those i support and tell you why, but i can be liying to you... It is important that we do our homework, because when we stop having an interest on who is making the decisions we are failing our Commitment as steemizens and surrendering a right in having a say in the direction and gobernance of the platform.
It might sound strange i discourage you to use a proxy especially you have chosen around 25 witnesses on your own, it might serve and support our cause that you set any of us as proxy, and help both do more...
But i don't want that at the expense of the duty and right to choice.
Exactly the point isn't to teach the new users to use their witness votes blindly but use them wisely, So yes... I totally want to do a STEEMaprende class about witnesses, in fact I thought about doing a post related about this a few days ago if you remember @nnnarveaz... but I realised I couldn't do it alone at that moment I was needing to study more about the witness thing (and I did read the witness posts that Narvaez posted long time ago), therefore, I'll do it with help of the @reveur team the next friday and I might bother you with a few questions.
So the solution will be to teach the newcomers about this (and for the old ones remember . Hoping they will understand the bigger picture and try to look further, do the respective research and decide which witnesses to vote and why (at least 15 votes or more). And this call we probably will have to repeat it often since steemit is growing pretty fast...
@sircork thanks for the website, very useful. We've some common votes but for my remaining votes I'll do my research, and find for witnesses which do similar works/projects like the ones that @YouAreHOPE and @reveur promote, and the witnesses which make of steemit and the block-chain a better place for both, spanish and english communities.
Clavis i am jumping in because first i realize you are wasting your time in the English team translating small stuff, you are ready to be posting in English, and that steem aprende class (when we schedule it will have us there to help and support you)
We are starting every tuesday 6pm EST a broadcast of 3 witness in a row...
I would like to invite you to joins us, we start in Spanish with me and then patrice takes over and corcky closes... on @steemstarnetwork
Or sundays @sircork has steemizens of steem where witnesses drop to speak with the crow and share their views.
Being there will be great for you, and we need people able to write in both languages to help us make the point.
Oh that sounds really nice, thanks for the invitation I'll be there... And I don't mind to do the translations, it will help me to improve my english redaction skill :D
U got my vote, and my proxy vote Cork!
Was it @beanz you might partner with? ;)
I think you are an example to follow in a particular way or your own. Many here in steemit only work for ourselves and for an economic interest, never for others and with this I do not want you to think that I am praising you (I am not flattering) but I recognize that I am one of those who stopped dreaming and at best it is time that I return to some of those dreams. Despite the language barrier because I only speak Spanish, I follow you.
