I've sent a couple of job applications in this week after reactivating my Linkedin profile stating that I am open to offers. Honestly, I can hardly contain my joy about the thought of sitting behind someone else's desk but needs must, and it won't be forever, he says.
from here
It's been 15 months to the day (yesterday) since I was employed in an IT role, and I suppose that if I'm to keep options open for the future, it's probably an idea to get something else on the CV. Employers are assumed to be weary of people who have nothing of recent note in their file, and I would say a year to 18 months is stretching a 'career break' a little.
I got my last role through Linkedin, but do think I was rather lucky with timing and it might not be so easy this time. I'm not sure how many technical jobs that required a native/fluent English speaker there are in Valencia, but it cant be that many.
This time, (as I was last time I guess) I'm looking further afield. And so far, I've sent my details off to Singapore, the Czech Republic, and to a couple of places in... the UK. Boooooooo!
Unsurprisingly, the UK holds the best chance of me finding work, but probably still goes top of the list as the place I'd least like to move to next. Even more so during this time of year, it'll be fucking cold, wet, and miserable. There are a few positives though....
One of the places I've applied to is in Nottingham, where I lived for 18 years, and not far from where my daughter lives. A 3 month contract role initially, this could be perfect for the feeling that I'm not going to be there forever, and also give me plenty of chance to catch up with my not so little girl. It has been feeling like time to go back in recent times, I'm just a bit scared of how my mood will be come lunchtime the first Monday back in an office.

I've also got plenty of friends in Nottingham, something I don't have here. It's been pretty cool seeing mum a couple of times each week for the past year or so, I didn't expect to be doing that once leaving home for University. 15 months though, and you could say I've just about outstayed my welcome - and really, what good is an outdoor pool in winter.
Thanks mum, I am looking for something to do while the STEEM is in the dumps. I really don't want to sell and part of any earnings for the next job will be used to buy more of this invisible money (and handouts x !) that I've been living off for the past year.
I'd also like to continue being active and engaged on Steem if I do find a 9 to 5. Creating content, working with @utopian-io, the Engagement League, random pie posts, and whatever else sparks my interest. Hopefully there will be time in the evenings to do that, and I'm sure many of you guys are working & Steeming already. Fair play.
The incentive to find fiat is the state of the Crypto market. This might not be the bottom, but I don't think we are too far away and so it would be nice to be a STEEM buyer again, and target 20000 Steem Power, or maybe more. I guess the longer the prices are down, the longer I'll need to work, and the more SP I can buy. Every cloud huh.
So the deed has been done, I am officially hunting for work. Wish me luck!
Cheers
Asher
Good luck. I work a full time job and treat STEEM as a hobby. Its a hobby that might make me a living one day though.
Never power down.
Right. I think this is a sound approach until you have enough SP to earn a good amount through curation. And then in the future (going further from us right now it seems), options to delegate to projects, or by other SMTs.
Sadly, I'm powering down this week. Got witness server bills to pay!
It does not always seem to be panning out quite the way we had hoped, but despite the speed humps... trust that, actually... it is! You may now know the how or why right now... but you will in good time, so look at it as an opportunity for opportunities :)
I see it as an opportunity to by more STEEM :)
12/24 weeks, how bad can it be.
What are you doing now, looking for a job or still making it work here?
Begging on street corners after i drop my son at school every morning and have been contemplating a bank heist.... lol nah....just riding the wave as best I can for now... and eating dry bread and spit lol ;)
hahaha, that sounds deeeeeelicious!
Dry bread? Just add spit!
Well I hope you can ride this wave out, ready for the next biggie, whenever that is :)
Who’s spit? @jaynie
If it’s someone else’s it’s like a treat. Like going out to eat. So fancy in these tough times.
If you can (and are open to it), seriously consider contract work. Things with a limited time scope... gigs that last 2-6 months. A lot of companies like not having to make you an "employee" (at least here in the US) and having to give you bennies. Did it for many years, and it worked quite well (as a contract technical writer). I know it's more competitive now that a lot gets outsourced to Asia, but still might be worth a look.
=^..^=
Yeah I'll be aiming for contract work for sure, it just seems less stressful and with a end. Thanks Cat :)
As requested: Good luck. Hoping on the Nottingham job for you because your daughter. Could be great for your relationship.
Cheers,
Peter
Thank you. Yeah the more I think about it, the more I see that as the best option. We shall see how things pan out.
Cheers!
Good luck on getting hired. So...what % of your salary are you planning to use to buy that sweet cheap STEEM? :D
Posted using Partiko Android
Taxes/Bills/Rent/Food/STEEM. No idea really, but I'm hoping if I keep it tight on shit I don't need then I'd be able to collect at least a Minnow's worth each month, maybe more!
Sounds good. Best of luck!

ahhh crap Asher, just so shortly ago we were talking about different options but damn this took a turn fast.
(again...if you are looking for a quick big buck... it stars with Sw- and ends with itserland
but yeah living close to your daughter and friends again is also a great call
Yeah I know, Thailand seems so far away now!
I should probably contact those guys near the Alp huh, maybe if I see them with my own eyes I'll get new ideas on where to tunnel through with my trains :)
Thanks, Nottingham does make sense. I'll be there in 13 days anyway, might even be staying for a lil while now.
I told you back then already to go for the tunnel from Lucerne bypassing all of Germany to get in Holland right?
It will be good to be back there for a bit man, you will enjoy it.. Until then.. try to not wear flipflops in December in the UK...people have opinions about that
Ha!
Yeah right, the 22 gazillion dollar tunnel directly to Skunkhouse coffee shop.
Trust me, I wont be packing my flip-flops if I'm heading to the UK. Too much dog shit and water.
Good luck mate, in the same phase right now chasing that fiat!
Hopefully you get that job in Nottingham!
Yeah I don't think we are alone - fiat buys much more crypto than this time last year. Cheers!
That's all i have in mind, buying !!!
You just need to shill enough Steem Monster referrals to not need a 9 to 5!
I use to game with some high rollers as a f2p or budget player. Which was always the fun for me. No luck on the couple of people I've been in touch with. Still was worth the shot though.
I shill it a fair amount, just don't use the referral link.
How are you doing, I'm struggling to get to 1500 - spent hours so far in the mix around 1k.
I’m just in bronze II only doing my dallies. Not sure how far I’m going push this league. I have stuff going on in other games starting Friday and I’ll be very busy. I was kind of counting on getting placed into higher league and not the reset we got. While I could try and push now I don’t want to spend an alarming amount of time trying get back down to where I can do my dallies.
It was at least nice to hit champion a few times in the past. I expected at some point it would be out of my reach as more and bigger and active accounts start playing in the long run. I just hope I’m not a bronze finisher!
I've only just escaped bronze, tough going!
Not tried the daily's yet, I guess while I'm down here I should be looking at that.
Enjoy being busy :)
There are tons of IT jobs in Scotland. And it's fucking ace. True the weather is probably something out of a horror film for you but still, not too far from down south either :0)
I wouldn't rule out Scotland, perhaps a special guest star on the friday beer tasting show could be an option :D :D
Haha, that would be awesome!!
A 3 month contract would be cool, a lot can happen in that time and okay the weather be shit but i bet it be nice to be home for a while too
Posted using Partiko Android
Yeah, ideal really. Maybe stretch it to 6 and hope the market turns during this time. We shall see :)
Oh nice, spending time in nothingham close to daughter sounds great :) but I want to ask more IT related stuff. What kind of job/position are u looking for? Is it something totally specific? Or why did you sent those applications soo randomly all over Europe? Czech rep is interesting choice...
Also, 3 months is quite short or? I work in the company 15 months now ( only part time tho) and I still feel new and have to ask so many things about where to find which project and how it works etc etc.or u mean those 3 months only as a test if u like it there?
Also, why applying for a job? Is it cuz steem is low so it ain't possible to live off it?
Posted using Partiko Android
The role would likely be SharePoint/SQL based, that's where my skills are and where my (fading) interest in IT is.
The jobs I found relating to the above are in the countries I listed :)
3 months is no time at all, you've barely been inducted and learned where everything is and it's time to go - this is the bonus to contracting as apposed to working in the same place for 15 years - you can escape the BS easier :)
Correct :)
Ohh I guess contracting is the keyword here. I didn't know there's something like that at all. Going to google more about it. Interesting :)
Well, wish u luck then! :) May u reawake ur IT love hah :D
I hope everything turns out to be OK at the end. I can't help but see the silver lining here (as you wrote). If you choose the UK for the next few months, you will get more time with your little girl. What a bonus!!! So this "crypto crisis" couldn't be that bad ;)
I hope you will still have the time to be active here. I enjoy your posts very much, although I don't always leave a comment :)
Thank you :)
Yes that is a silver lining to hang on to, and I will do that given the opportunity.
I hope to remain active to, there's no reason why I can't but I guess I'll have less time to browse all the good stuff here. Cheers!
Good luck on your search!!! I hope you find something you will enjoy while you are doing it. Those jobs are out there...
And it is a lofty goal to get to that much steem, but why not...
Thank you very much :)
Yeah it's a big ask, but I wouldn't mind falling a little short just as long as I'm heading in that direction!
Good luck 🍀 I’ve been sending out applications the last few weeks already, but it’s a lot harder here ^^ hope you can hit your target and then some more!
Thank you, and the same to you too!
My resime is very much like that! I would hate to go back to working for someone else, but sometimes its something you have to grin and bare! Hopefully its only a short time. Nottingham is not bad either, it has annies burger shack! Love that place!
I lived with the guy who's with the Annie, or at least I think they are still together. Pretty healthy new age burger stuff :D
Grin and bare, I shall try :)
Well, good luck ! 🤞😁
Thank you Sarah!
I work as economist and to be honest I think you should at least keep the possibility open that crypto is slowly dying right now.
I personally believe that crypto won't get any bigger than it is right now. And that most of the coins will either disappear or be worthless in a terms of financial value. But this is not a matter of who's right? Or let's wait and see?
I think it should just be something you take into account, that maybe you will never earn any significant amount of money with crypto as of now.
Right. It's certainly possible, and I have to take an economists views seriously :)
I'm looking, we shall see what comes...
Would it also be possible to hunt a job in Holland? Or do you think that is even worse than the UK?
Since we got the same ugly weather and none of your friends are living here.
heh :)
With 1.2 languages, they'll look at me like an idiot!
And yeah, northern Europe is just clouds all over!
Contract work rules, have been doing it for 22 years now. Just don’t take a permanent role if you want your freedom back later.
Posted using Partiko iOS
Right! Yeah the gig in Valencia was contract, 3 months went to 6, and then to a year. It's cool, you don't have to feel too bad about declining an extension, and probably the way i'll do things from now on.
It’s a stepping stone to get to the next level. Dredge through the darkness now as you will have your time in the sun soon enough. Hope you land something quick though so that stress can disappear before the depression sets in. Lol
Not the same sutuation but my wife was laid off of her cushy job of 9 years last month. She’s been going through the proper interviews and such but hasn’t found anything she likes enough yet or that can offer what she needs. She did land a 2nd interview with a company that she’s super psyched about when she returns from her trip to Aruba!!! I go to Poland solo...she goes to Aruba with her best friend. Lol
Either way, I hope you both land something you are happy with soon. I also hope in 2 weeks that you have an absolute blast seeing your daughter.
Thanks man!
That will be the highlight of the trip, and perhaps I'll be attending an interview too.
It's good that the wife doesn't have to take the first offer that comes along, knowing she'll likely no enjoy it as much as other options that may appear soon.
Good luck to us!
Fantastic. I’m sure your daughter is stoked to have you come out.
Yeah she was somewhat lucky. She got a 16 week severence pay with full benefits so she’s ok through mid February technically. But would rather not let it get that close.
I'm approaching 4 years away from a desk, and I have a job offer handed to me without seeking in the crypto space I'm tempted to take mainly for the accumulation of coins. However, freedom is invaluable... I'm dragging my feet on it because it feels like a sellout. Like you're saying, the short term suffering can lead to a much more comfortable future. I feel your pain. Best of luck.
Exactly man, it is feeling like selling out, but actually it's the opposite as I'd need to start selling chunks of STEEM to avoid the desk.
If it's something you can handle for 3/6 months it might be an option as the earnings could really boost what you are holding in Crypto while it's 'cheap'. Cheers!
Hey Asher, been a while since I check on your blog. Oh man, sometimes I look at the crypto market and wish I could get some fiats to buy in a lot more.
A man must do what a man has to do, I wish you the best in all your endeavours. Keep up posted
Hey dude, yes been a while but no worries - everyone's got things to do.
Let's see what happens, I will be updating as and when :)
Hope you find something you (kinda) like at least! I'm sure it won't be quite so bad and it's just temporary until we moon, right? ;)
Yes temporary until moon - 5 years later....
I should approach it positively, that will help. YAY for fiat!
Aww good luck Asher! Every cloud does have a silver blah blah blah bullshit 😊 Hope steem goes back up soon so things can get back to your normal.
Feel free to attach my good egg video to your CV if you think it might help haha
haha
Could be what clinches the role!
Nice to see you floating around Steem again, enjoy your Sunday :)
Your good eggness can't hurt,:), and yes, it's good to be floating around, although it's pretty quiet hey?
My son arrives tomorrow for a holiday, so I may be a little scarce, but I'm soooo looking forward to seeing him!
Hope you're well Ash!
Good luck Asher.
You can do the work thing again I'm sure. Just keep reminding yourself it is temporary and, if it works out that you get to spend more time with your daughter that's a huge win.
Even a winter in the UK is manageable if you see it as temporary.
Your new experience doesn't have to be the same as it was in the past.
I look forward to hearing about what unfolds from here.
Sending lots of love. 💙
Thanks Gill
It will be my morning mantra. They do say a change is as good as a rest, and I've had plenty of rest.
Let's see what happens!
There you go. This could be a whole new exciting adventure. 😍
Steady on Gillian, I've never heard the words exciting and adventure being used when talking about finding an IT job before :D
The world is full of unimagined possibility.
A year ago I'd never heard of blockchain or Steem. And if you'd told me I would be playing and (mostly) enjoying an online card game built around monsters I would have told you there was absolutely no way! 😂
I take your point :D
Not played much today, time to see what the cards have in store!
I hope you're able to get a job quickly, even if it's not a field that you want to work in forever. It's still money that can go toward helping you get ahead. Then you can do what you want. Good luck!
This is the plan, suffer now, relax later. Cheers!
Love the first tag on this!
I hope you find work in a timely manner. It's something that isn't currently easy to come by here at the moment.

:D
Thank you, me too.
Where are you, Melbourne, Adelaide? Oz economy struggling a little?
Adelaide. I think there's a bit more work in Melbourne. SA unemployment is pretty high at the moment. We're a bit of a back water and our production keeps leaving.
You haven't really been on a career break, though, have you? It may not have been a conventional job, but you've been doing interesting things :). Good luck with the job-seeking, hope you find what you want, where you want!
I suppose not. I did update my profile with Blockchain research and analysis, which is mostly true. I've done a fair amount of SQL coding this year for Utopian, the Leagues, and other stats posts so yeah, not totally unrelated to what I could be doing in the near future.
Thank you!
👍😎
Good luck on the job hunt, and that first Monday or Tuesday what the hell did I sign on for feeling, just remember you know what you need to live without that job. Just kind of look at it like, well I went back to work just so I can buy that really expensive toy sooner rather than later, not that you went back to work because if you did not you would never be able to buy that toy.
I know a few people say work is for suckers, but those people don't have nice toys.
Yeah I'm low on nice toys, but I have what I need I guess.
The work would be for freedom later, I'm sure I can stick something out for a little while. Cheers!
All the best Asher. Sorry I didn’t recognize you at Steemfest, it was nice meeting you again there!
Wherever you’ll find a job, I wish you good luck!
It's OK Joy, I think I'm 5 kg lighter than last year and with more gray hair! :D
Thank you, appreciated!
You look good, just I’m so bad at recognising ppl ^^

aww , thanks :D
I'm pretty good with faces, but I do suck at names. It helps when your name is in your username though!
Gòod luck @abh12345, hope that you really get the job and buy more steem power 💪, hang out with your daughter and get more gold foil cards from steemmonsters too😉
Thank you @cicisaja, I will try to do all of these things! :D
Man, I know how you feel. Been thinking that I might need a J.O.B. 😟👎 too... Bleh. Or a miracle...either or. I'm still hoping for the latter. But it doesn't hurt to check around meanwhile. I'm pissed off because these numbers in crypto would make the ideal time for some day (or week) trading, but with no money to invest...well, I won't get very far. Not taking any steem either...it's just too great to leave it where it is right now.
Anyways, good luck with the job hunt. England for a short while couldn't be that bad...I guess. (At least you'll know how I feel in cold, wet Ireland😉). I lived in Singapore, and it's a great place...but very expensive to live rent-wise. Not for food, that's really cheap. Well, I hope you find something soon either way.
J O B. Sounds like a shit word to begin with :)
Thanks though, and good luck in whatever you decide to do. I'm not sure we can bank on these markets to turn around anytime soon.
Thanks! Yeah, not sure about the markets, and even if it did, I had to sell so much of my coins, it would barely make a difference even if the ones I have left would triple in price...But yeah, still not worried, I'll be back.
Job, yeah, sure it's a crappy word. I've been working freelance for so long, the last time I held a 'out of the house' job is some time ago. But I think I might have to since work hasn't exactly stacked up for me lately.
Good luck to you too, and who knows, it might just be a couple of months.
Luck is for those who need it buddy; I wish you success as you have already what it takes! I think that you have a sound plan and if executed, we could see you back and even better than before. I work and still get to engage much more than I thought I ever could because I enjoy it!
Posted using Partiko iOS
Right on! Thanks :D
You have been rising week on week as far as engagement, good to see. Oh yes, it's Sunday, I should probably get to work on something :D
As someone who hated his own so much, this is the only thing that found encouraging in such situation. I'm in the middle of career changing, guess it is very much alike with your case which is switching from full-time steeamian to some IT guy again? Wish we all good luck ahead.
Definitely not going anywhere, after Steem is part of the biggest reasons that initiated my career change to a potential web designer.
That's cool you became attracted to a Web dev. role following Steem. Certainly not leaving here, it may take some time but I think there will be a change in fortune for us. Good luck :)
@abh12345, First of all good wishes from my side and hope and wish that may for short period only, you will going to get the pleasant work which will make your life more ease.
And fun to watch that Lunch Time stuff. Ha ha. 🙂
Wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂
Lunch time, my favourite part of the day when I'm employed :D
Thanks @chireerocks, same to you.
Ha ha, good to hear that. Welcome and thank you so much. Have a great time ahead. 🙂
Good luck with the normal job thingy, asher. And I didn't think you are old enough to have a daughter (and when I scrolled down your blog, she's already a teenager)... I guess I was wrong xD.
I'm 40 in 10 days, so yeah, old enough :D
Ahhh you made me recall all the mind boggling part I too used to do a while ago. It was nice to play with those charts and graphs but working for others always gives a feel of being overpowered. After 15 years I gave up...LinkedIn and other job sites too that keep me busy looking for some Pioneer organisation.
Wish you all the best...👍 Nottingham is the best place to be at least you remain close to your loved ones 👌 always a feel good factor ......by the way India is always an option too😉

Thanks dude!
Yeah I'm open to anywhere really, just needs to fit my skills and not make me want to smash my keyboard up :)
Nice first tag. Could become a hit.
Good luck man.
Thanks man! I was wondering if someone would comment, glad to see it is you :)

As you say... shouldn't be too bad short term and only for a few months hopefully.
It's possible to steem in ur spare time - I did it for most of my first year. You just have to scale it back for a while.
Britain's not so bad, honestly. Just damp.
