Road to American Ninja Warrior - Day 25

Day 25

One of my December goals was to work on my Tendonitis exercises consistently. I was perfectly disciplined when we lived in the city because going to the gym was fun. It got me away from my computer and amongst the climbers and gym junkies... I'd go 2 or 3 times a day so there was always someone around that I knew.

Despite the freeziingness and my hands and toes continually going numb while exercising, I've been very consistent due mainly to this blog.... being accountable to my new internet friends surprisingly carries a lot of weight.

The downside of doing my tendonitis exercises every 2nd day is that I can't really develop strength at the same time.
The tendonitis exercises are slow and considered... which is good for building strength, but it's frustratingly slow.

So today I thought I'd ramp things up and go all out. Break down all the muscle fibers. To hell with both golfers elbow and tennis elbow, let's shoot for some gainz!

It's probably not the best thing for me... but I haven't felt any tendonitis strains for weeks, so it'll be good to see where I'm at.

Today I basically tried to fatigue the muscle. If I wasn't hurting or exhausted I didn't stop. I was very careful to ensure my form didn't suffer... in fact, that was usually a good indicator to stop or rest for a minute.

Today's exercises

Pushups - 7 sets of 10. Got to 6 on the last set and was toast.
Tricep Dips - 5 sets of 6. I always struggle with these guys. I feel like it works my chest and abs as much as my triceps.
Pull up 1 set of 16, 1 set of 10 and 1 set of 6. That first set really took it outta me.

Injuries & sore spots

Felt good... but about 30 minutes afterwards my left elbow didn't feel so great.

Goals for December

Get back on track to all my tendonitis exercises
Beat that last rung on the double salmon ladder
Get the 14 foot warped wall (I used to do it easily but my technique was "cheating" so now I'm trying to do it properly but haven't got it yet).

What type of exercises do you do for your tendonitis? haha and i'm glad you are holding yourself accountable to making me almost laugh every day!! :D

Hahahahaha, I've probably seen this gif a thousand times and it still makes me laugh... this s how I solve every IT problem at work... just bang all the buttons until it works.

I'll do a whole post on the different tendonitis strategies... but basically 3 times a week I do very slow sets of 6 reps - super slow and sometimes with weight. A physio friend of mine wonders if I have all these issues because my biceps aren't strong enough... so it's about carefully and boringly strengthening without doing anything to upset them... borzo.

Hahaha, so many laughs to come.
I've got a video of me just falling off things....

lol aw man I thought this was a unique GIF haha. I hadn't been using or seeing gifs before steeming! looking forward to all the things!

You know what.... I've just decided that life BS doesn't count... that's Life Before Steemit... so yes, it is a unique GIF... and it's the best.

haha you are too funny. life BS seems so far away now... :D

Good on ya bro. I've been meaning to read back through all your posts and see what these tendonitis exercises are about since I've had it in my left shoulder a long time. Funny I had it for about 3 years and did nothing, then I kinda tore it (not a tear but ripped it) and now it actually feels better. Almost like a bad thing made it better but still don't have 360 degree movement. I'd really like it 100% so I can go start Jiu Jitsu. Still gotta work on it and gonna go do some calisthenics after lunch. Thanks for the motivation, works both ways on Steemit!

Thanks dude! I will explain it all properly, but basically I've got golfers elbow and tennis elbow that really flare up with particular obstacles.

Jiu Jitsu is particularly rough on the shoulders with all the locks... you really want it as flexible as possible.. but yeah, it'll be so good once you're back in the groove. I've actually set up my own cable machine with some wire and a light kettlebell and do a series of rotator cuff type exercises... something like that might help strengthen and get some mobility back in your shoulder. So weird that a tear would help... but it kinda makes sense... the body doesn't really know how to handle overuse injuries... it doesn't really see it as a problem.. but the tear was obviously needed to be fixed... so all the blood flowed to that shoulder and fixed all the stuff.

I do a lot of heat and massage and rollering just to get the blood to flow into the areas that need help (no idea if it works... but y'know).

nice post. All the best to attain your december goals @aussieninja

Thanks heaps @kamchore! I just scrapped in on the last day! Phew!

Well done!

I can't believe December is almost over! I definitely did not meet my intended fitness goals, but I have new ones now for January at least! :)

Thanks Picard and @bethwheatcraft! Um, yeah, you might have had some unforeseen hurdles in December... but here's to a 10,000,000% improvement in Jan 2018!

I don't think I've done 25 days of exercise total, let alone consecutive.
Are you on steemit.chat?
I messaged you.

You know... I'm probably doing enough for both of us... so just consider it as outsourcing. Plus, I'm sure you spend so much time in the Steem room... hahaha, okay, I'll stop.

Yay! I'm glad you were able to go all out. Hopefully your tendinitis doesn't come back with too much of a vengeance. Best wishes :)

Hey dude! Happy New Year!

Um yeah, look it kind of did... but it's important to test the boundaries to make sure I'm not wasting my time...and I really liked going hard.

Good going as always.
December is coming to a close. Hope you are in position to beat that warped wall!

Oh man.... down to the wire... but hopefully there is a little video around here that answers that question...

Always love catching up with the training, love how you just got sick of waiting for the tendonitis!! Haha good luck with it dude, tendonitis is usually pretty persistent!

Thanks man! I've had the tendonitis for 7 years and just ignored it for a long time and got right into Indoor Soccer/Futsal to pass the time... and it never went away. Now I'm doing a heap of exercises to combat it... it's been a good year so far but I've definitely seen some improvement... hence me testing the waters so to speak. Definitely paid for it though.

Ah man, it's such a difficult one, I've heard it's all about building up the supporting muscles as much as possible but that's often easier said than done! I've had an elbow issue for about a year now, rested for up to 8 weeks with no change, sometimes there's no choice but to ignore it!

Tendinitis sucks; both lateral or medial. Golfers elbow vs Tennis Elbow.. Have had both, just takes time to heal usually.. It is surprising how aggravating these can be as they fuck up your ability grip things. I typically just rest, self massage and use the hell out of absorbine horse liniment.

It sucks so hard... a normal injury I can work with... but I seem to be very prone to all the overuse injuries. Practically riddled with them, honestly. As such, the ol spikey ball and foam rollers aren't too far away.

Absorbine horse liniment? What the heck is that? Is it as hardcore as it sounds?

I grew up around horses, works pretty good.. has some icy hot kinda properties but more menthol like.. I would not put it on your balls or anything, but it works good for bringing blood to the area to promote healing...

wish you good luck, fulfill your goal, take care :)

Thank you so much @dumasari... thank you so much for popping in and wishing me luck! I actually smashed my December goals... very happy. Now I have to think about my Jan 2018 goals.
